    EU funding ‘Orwellian’ artificial intelligence plan to monitor public for “abnormal behaviour”
    The European Union is spending millions of pounds developing “Orwellian” technologies designed to scour the internet and CCTV images for “abnormal behaviour”.
    A five-year research programme, called Project Indect, aims to develop computer programmes which act as “agents” to monitor and process information from web sites, discussion forums, file servers, peer-to-peer networks and even individual computers.
    “Profiling whole populations instead of monitoring individual suspects is a sinister step in any society.
    “It’s dangerous enough at national level, but on a Europe-wide scale the idea becomes positively chilling.”
    Its main objectives include the “automatic detection of threats and abnormal behaviour or violence”.
    Open Europe believes intelligence gathered by Indect and other such systems could be used by a little-known body, the EU Joint Situation Centre (SitCen), which it claims is “effectively the beginning of an EU secret service”. Critics have said it could develop into “Europe’s CIA”.

  12. Interesting story coming out of Switzerland. It appears that Roman Polanski has been arrested by Swiss authorities when he flew to that country to accept some sort of award. They put the cuffs on him at the airport and are detaining him until the US formally applies for his extradition back to the US so he can begin to serve a jail sentence for the “rape” of a 13 year-old girl back in 1977.
    Now, how many out there really believe that Obummer will ever go ahead and extradite this pervert and have him sit in a US prison for any lenght of time? The Hollywood elite worship Polanski as a film genius. The Hollywood elite also worship Obummer.
    Obummer, with no real moral compass, will do one of two things: 1. He will drop the arrest warrant, or; 2. he will pardon Polanski.
    Any bets?

  15. National Post indicates that Liberals say they will “ban all “taxpayer-funded “politicized” advertising if they come to power.” I hope they will include CBC news items and commentary as part of the sweep to get rid of taxpayer funded promotion.
    I am also intrigued that they think anyone cares about this except Liberals. It is essentially an “expenditure neutral” item. You can run an ad with or without a politicians picture.) In fact, using the politicians picture on a string of ads might save in photography expenditures. This is hardly going to fire up the masses.

  23. In my opinion, “eponymous” is an utterly useless adjective. I have yet to see it contribute anything helpful, much less essential, to any sentence in which it appears. It does suggest erudition on the author’s part, though, so perhaps it has a purpose after all.
