  1. Engineer actually dmorris.
A lifetime ago, one of my mechanical engineering tech instructors, a retired engineer, told us to never, ever, trust an engineer…..LOL.
Probably not what Chuck had in mind!

  2. I’ll need to see my banker tomorrow and see if I can get a large loan worth more than my net worth with interest payments too large for me to make. Then I will truly be successful.
I’ve been a real sucker here paying my mortgage and credit card bills when I should have just kept leveraging them into bigger loans and debt.
They didn’t teach me this in accounting class. Then again my teacher didn’t do a hit of acid before each class either.

  3. “Stark was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in general engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1953.[3] He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1957. After leaving the Air Force, Stark attended the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, and received his MBA in 1960. Stark enjoyed living in the Bay Area so much that he decided to settle there after graduating.
In 1963, Stark founded Security National Bank, a small bank in Walnut Creek. Within 10 years it grew to a $100 million company with branches across the East Bay.”
From Wikipedia. Stark seems to have had a substantial education, and success in the business world.
Question: if incurring debt is no big deal, why do ALL the non-Conservative or republican Parties in both Canada and the U.S. make such an outcry when it is a Conservative or Republican government incurring the debt?
    What’s sauce for the goose,etc.
As a newly enlightened person, I shall not worry about anything any government does, as I don’t have a Phd., and am therefore unqualified to question anything my Betters do.
I’m an ignorant peasant, and shall stick to hewing and drawing.
    Life is bliss.

  4. And that is why the democrats will never be successful at anything. Their ranks are filled with idiots like Stark and scum like those Jemimahs at ACORN who were quick to help a pimp bring in children as sex slaves from El Salvador and set up a brothel at tax payers expense. The sickness on the left is growing.
The current administration needs to be toppled now, we cannot wait for an election.

  5. Yeah Momar, I still haven’t to figured out why the people haven’t fixed this already.
How much more before they do?

  6. dmorris, as Peter Schiff points out, debt isn’t necessarily bad – depending upon what you want to do with it.
US businesses used debt heavily in the late 19th century to build factories – so it was an investment. However, debt now on personal levels is extensively used to find mindless consumption, and on a governmental level to flush money down holes.
    Not a recipe for success.

  7. Ah yes, Zimbobrae economics at its finest – debt makes you wealthier. Oh right, it’s bad micro, but goooood macro.
And it lowers your deficits too – check out the upcoming (maybe) Liberal election platform, written by …guess who?

  8. A person whose arguement starts and ends with, “You don’t and won’t and never will understand because you are stupid,” IS the stupid one. I don’t need a Phd or Masters degree to understand that this guy is a bully who really is trying to pull one over on everyone. He’s likely trying not to explain his actions or motives because they are probably based on personal gains to himself.
    Whatta retard.

  9. What the economics are or are not with respect to debt isn’t the issue.
The issue is Stark’s GROSS ARROGANCE with respect to refusing to answer questions, followed by his bully tactic threats at the end. The people don’t work for him…they are not ignorant serfs in his little fiefdom, he works for the people and is answerable to them! If the people do not want to participate in his ponzi-scheme economics and then have to shoulder the burden of servicing ridiculous sums of debt through taxes, then that is how he MUST vote. For this display of unmitigated arrogance (not to mention stupidity) Stark should be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail.

  10. Going that dramatically from condescension to anger would seem to indicate that suddenly a light came on in his head. Will he leave it on? Or will he run quickly back to the comfort and company of the dark?
    Cheers, Eric

  11. There is no doubt that Pete Stark is a loony tune with that business about the national debt. That’s crazy, and its what is killing the US economy right now.
But, I’d have tossed the interviewer out of my office just the same way if I were Stark. What a whining jackass. I had to shut off the interview, I couldn’t stand him.
I friggin’ hate passive/aggressive twerps like that. Ugh.

  12. dp, they are borrowing it from the Chicoms and the Saudis.
Kinda puts Pete Stark in perspective a little better. He’s selling his country for a bag of magic beans.
The interviewer is still an irritating d1ck though.

  13. Peter Stark is absolutely correct if there never is any intention of paying what you borrow back. In addition to governments, taxpayers as well borrow billions without ever intending to pay it back.
Peter would call it “deficit investing”. More regularly known by ordinary folk by its common name, “theft”.

  14. Government debt is bad for a number of reasons:
    1. The interest that has to be paid annually reduces the amount of money the government has available for program spending.
    2. We are spending our children’s and grandchildren’s money, which is nothing short of stealing. They have (had) no say in the matter.
Consider how much we keep spending on interest due to the debts piled up by Trudeau, Mulroney and Bob Rae. Please don’t call them investments.

  15. This Stark character is a good example of the far left mind set.
They will be marginally tolerant to others for a few minutes then send you out to face a firing squad if you don’t lick the boot.
That is how they have traditionally consolidated their control over the pesky masses.
The weak of mind in every society follow the charming snake of socialism and ultimate slavery.
    Nothing new here.

  16. Jan has what is called “the gift” in certain vocations. The ability to really get under someone’s skin by carefully interjecting and feigning lack of comprehension while at the same time appearing totally innocuous and reasonable. Lots of smart folks looking out from behind cell bars or picking up their sorry asses and walking away from company front doors take a long time to realize what went down was a losing game played against one of Lt Columbo’s “dumb cousins” in law enforcement or prosecution.

  17. OT :
I notice that the left is now full on playing the race card. Check out newsweeks cover and Maureen dowds latest column in the NYT. It is said that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. I think that todays left in their post patriot world have race as their refuge.

  18. There’s an old-fashioned Canadian phrase used to describe a character such as Mr. Stark: “bought and paid for.” Funny how it isn’t used all that much nowadays.

  19. Might I suggest that Stark may be stupid but think about it; people vote for him. If you vote for an idiot what does that make you?

  20. “Might I suggest that Stark may be stupid but think about it; people vote for him. If you vote for an idiot what does that make you?”
    Good question.
The answer is= Union Employee in his district.

  21. “Jan has what is called “the gift” in certain vocations.”
Good point. It’s a technique and he makes it work. As for phantom’s bit about “passive aggressive”, that’s naive. The passive act keeps him from getting thrown out, and lets the interviewee feel superior so he keeps talking. The aggressive part keeps putting the questions forward.
    It’s an effective combination.

  22. Yeah, it would be totally awesome if California slipped into the sea and all 35 or so million of them died. That’s hilarious and politically acute.

  23. There was nothing passive aggressive about the interviewer. How anyone can see that interview with those two together and feel any negativity towards the interviewer. Stark was so asinine. And what happened, what Jan did so well, was to reflect exactly what Stark said back to him like a mirror. And this particular Liberal saw how foolish he looked and didn’t like it one bit. He was mad at himself more than Jan, I suspect. Combine that with the fact that there was a camera running and presto. It was only a matter of time.

  24. well….they DO call it the dismal science don’t they….
i’m surprised at Jan though….I would have bullshitted ol ‘pete’…told him puerto rico u WAS small to be sure but they had a wonderful economics dept and faculty….that I was nominated for the Hayek and the Schumpeter awards two years running and turned down an associate chair feeling i could much better serve society by exposing the follies of applying ‘collective’ economic principles to free markets and capitalism….as i’m doing now ……’pete’
and of course after the insults..the violent language and the straight out threat of physical violence i would have bitch slapped ol’ pete….with my invisible hand….just til he cried of course…
and then sue him of course…

  25. Quite obvious that Pete Stark has a PHD from the school of stupid. How does a guy like this get elected?

  26. indeed sasq…
furthermore i’d prolly exercise option ‘A’…which is a kick in the goolies with the invisible foot of capitalism…
i tell you..one thing i can’t stand is some pencil necked pointy headed liberal putting on airs…could be the smell of their patchouli oil or sumpin…mebbe i’m allergic or sumpin…i dunno…all i know is that at a certain point with certain undefinable cues i …just…pop…
i’d apologize afterwards of course…tell him about my upbringing in the belly of the beast of free enterprise and all…explain how i was a victim and everything…..that i was crying out for help and so on….ask him if he would perhaps consider adopting me and stuff….or at least be like a big brother figger to me….

  27. or ask him if he’d help pay for my melanin enhancement treatments…..he’d groove on that or be mindf***ed mebbe…i dunno….you just never know just how kooky a liberal can be do you..?

  28. “We have averted second Depression, Obama claims”
The link for this is up at googlenews.
    The O’pic is a keeper.
Who can take a screenshot? Hurry, ‘fore it’s refreshed/deleted.
    …..
    The O’pic is still up.

  29. The crazy thing is, he’s probably never thrown anyone anywhere, and most of us have never done anything violent, either. It might be fun to try, just once.
The only taped interview I’ve seen, that turned violent, was a football player roughing up an annoying sportscaster. It was really funny, and satisfying, at the same time. I think his name was Everett. I wonder if it’s still out there, somewhere.

  30. There was so much condensation from this weather vane of hubris, you would have thought the ghost of Katrina had blown in.
Gee, you could use this as a teaching vid on “How to belittle lower life forms”.
This is the result of years of entitlements. He of course represents Homo Superior. Himself. Rather than the monkeys. You!
    JMO

  31. This is interesting. Who is Jan Helfeld? Now don’t be silly. This has nothing with lessening the impact of his interviews, just that he seem to be unknown so far.
This interview that Helfeld has on his website is with the current leader of the democrats in the House of Representatives. It is quite unbelievable, the interview is over 7 minutes long and the democrat will not f!!!!g answer a simple question, it really makes ones head spin.
After not answering the simple question, the democrat is calling the guards to take the interviewer out of there.
The democrat behaves like true fascist/communist. You don’t like the talk, send them to the gulag.

  32. There was an intention to put the word democrats withing the quotation marks to put it in proper perspective, in as “democrats”, “democrat” and so on as it relates to the “democratic party”

  33. A typical lefty wacko defense by belittlement “do you have an economics major”?
As if anyone with a brain can’t make the rationalization that owing more money than you can pay the interest on is not a sign of wealth, regardless of whose budget it comes from. The reporter obviously gets his information from real economists who say that this guy is a sleazy leftist politician who is willing to bankrupt the country further to push his own agenda of feeding the poor on the back of the worlds working people.
The point is – when the US dollar eventually collapses due to this outrageous borrowing and subsequent printing of money, everyone suffers, the borrowers & the lenders. No one will be in a position to feed or offer any kind of medical care to the poor whether they care to or not. America’s middle class will become the working poor, with few jobs and nothing to produce.
China, India, and other emerging economic powerhouses will not feed the worlds poor, much less America’s. Nor will they take in outsourced American labor, save for a few niche technical experts in the interim.
Obamba and his minions are getting their prayers answered “God damn America”, with a little help of course.

  34. Nobody seems to have caught the question that exposed Stark’s innumeracy. He was asked: “would you pay more interest if the national debt was higher than if it was lower”. His answer was “it depends on the interest rate”.
I couldn’t believe that I heard an engineer say that and what it suggests to me is:
    (1) we may be seeing the early stages of Alzheimers
    (2) he wasn’t listening to the questions and just answering the questions he thought he was hearing
    (3) there’s something about living in Washington DC that brings about the loss of logical thought.
To anyone with any grasp of mathematics beyond the 3rd grade, it’s obvious that the higher the national debt the more interest one pays regardless of the interest rate (unless Stark was assuming that the interest rate varied with the size of the debt which he should have explicitly stated if he assumed this to be the case).
I wonder if my bank would lend me more money if I declared my property to be an independant country and told the bank that I wished to be as rich as I could possibly be?

  35. This is why millions of Americans marched on Washington on saturday 9/12/09
    Government is out of control

  36. “This is why millions of Americans marched on Washington on saturday 9/12/09”
    well thousands anyway.
heh. when Obama was inuagurated 2 million people showed up, thus overwhelming cell phone towers and other types of infrastructure…which did not happen this time..because 50 thousand in DC people are pretty easy to handle. but youre welcome to your fantasy…and I admit that 50k fat and / or crazy people actually showing up in one place boarders on mildly impressive

  37. Classic liberal-speak. To borrow from Orwell, left is right, black is white, and right is wrong.
    *sigh*
And one can argue until one is blue in the face (God knows I have tried) with the proponents of this nonsense that their policies are destructive and counter-productive….resulting in blank stares and a repetition of the tripe that the Obamessia is promoting.
Gawd…we have already lost Britain as a responsible and logical nation…apparently the US is doomed as well.

  38. The politician in the interview was ripe for the picking. A well laid out series of questions would have made him look ridiculous rather than irritated. The interviewer was badgering and argumentative and interrupted far too much. Plus he took the bait when asked about his education. This was I daresay a very small segment of a much longer interview. It looked like the politician was very tired of the way he was being interviewed – it would be helpful if we could see the whole interview and get a bit of perspective on the process.
