  1. New newspeak; “troubled report” can now be used in place of “blatant lie”.
I am stil trying to figure out what “a serious distortion of his actual remarks which were otherwise competently reported” means. That’s a tough one.

  2. From the article “including instituting a policy at the paper never to use anonymous sources.” The problem was not “anonymous sources”. This is an effort to deflect the real story. Newspapers should use and protect their sources and whistleblowers. However, they should not protect these sources when the ‘facts’ are outright lies that damage a person’s reputation. The rehiring of Irving and the subsequent faux apology is a continuation of ‘business as usual’. And dinosaurs don’t go to hell when they die, they go to work for Al-Jezeera.

  3. Pride goeth before a fall. Its not the exact quote, but it’ll do.
Mr. Irving and company are going to have problems soon, if they keep this kind of thing up. What problems I don’t know, but problems there will surely be.

  4. Perhaps the time is ripe for some competition for the Telegraph Journal, which enjoys a monopoly over the local news in Saint John.
With the appointment of a known “news”-fabricator to position of VP, the paper will surely see a huge exodus of readers to a new local news outlet that promises to be fair, balanced, to report and let the readers decide. And which won’t lie about stuff.

  5. “Wafergate” continues to be a very strange story.
Surely the facts of who said what to whom were known to the insiders at the paper on day one. Why wait this long to make second apology and remind people again about your incompetence / unethical behaviour many weeks later?
And what’s happened to Robert Fife’s accusation abot the Liberals having planted the story?

  6. “Troubled report”??? That’s one phrase I don’t think I’ve ever heard before.
So if a liberal makes something up and it’s proven false, it’s “troubled”??
    Wow.

  7. And what’s happened to Robert Fife’s accusation abot the Liberals having planted the story?
Good question. It seems that the accusation was quickly smothered/ignored from then forward by the Big Media so as to protect the Liberals from further speculation re. their relationship with the Big Media. Had they kept reporting on it, then the minds of voters would be affected thereby, potentially costing the Liberals both reputation and votes. And why would the Big Media do that to them? Of course, they’d over-report similar accusations made against the Tories…

  8. There is always the horrible possibility that he was conned. If that is what happened, it should be reflected in very unfriendly coverage of the upcoming Liberal election campaign in his fish wrap. If the usual pro-Grit a**lick coverage is unchanged, he should resign.

  9. Aw, come on people! Do you really expect the liberal media to dig too deep into who was really behind this story. That would be like putting a fox in charge of finding out who took chickens from the pen.
Iggy’s warm and fuzzy walk in the woods in Algonquin Park is what is important now. How come the media likes Iggy’s blue shirt in the woods, but made fun of Harper in a sweater. I think you know why.

  10. The media could not sensationalize such a mundane story if it wasn’t for the an uninformed public who suck it all in.
I’m R. Catholic. From time to time, people from other faiths and religions will line up and receive communion. For whatever reasons they wish to do so, our pastor never questions anyone nor does he judge them, nor has he ever refused anyone communion. The host is whatever you or I wish to interpret it as. Priests don’t ask for anyone’s credentials when dispensing communion.
If there is question as to who should or should not receive communion, it’s usually from the “holier than thou” faction of our parish, many of whom would fit into Jeannie C. Riley’s song, “Harper Valley PTA.” Need I say more?
The wafergate incident, in my opinion, was specifically concocted to blacken PM Harper.
In any event, it showed a huge lack of respect for the deceased and the Leblanc family. A funeral is hardy a place to play political games.

    Great Line

  12. Print whatever you want on page one. Print a retraction some time later on page two. Standard practice.

  13. I don’t understand why the atheists are making such a fuss over the treatment of a communion host. If they got their hands on one they would probably put it into a jar of urine.

  14. “””I don’t understand why the atheists are making such a fuss over the treatment of a communion host. If they got their hands on one they would probably put it into a jar of urine.”””
I’d give it to my dead parrot!!!!

  15. Ahh yes rewards for scandalous nepotism, collusive impropriety and rank ineptitude – it’s a ‘down east’ tradition.
Q: Where is the culture of entitlement the strongest?
    Hint: It ain’t Quebec.
