The retail price of that electricity, let alone bulk price, is 5.7 cents/kWHr. RW…
That’s the whole point … if the cost of the utility is lower than the cost of the extra ordinary generation then there obviously is no point in spending money on it.
So I’m obviously not talking about Kingston ON.
Ever been in a community that gets its electricity from diesel gensets?
Ever been at the fringes of hydro service where electricity goes for 25 and up?
Ever been 5 miles from an existing hydro line and got an estimate of over a $million to get power run in?
FYI in rural northern areas power often costs over 25 cents per kwh…. from a geographic standpoint Canada is mostly served by epensive electricity.
I’ll repeat myself: “Solar power and wind generators are used for offsetting the main power source and they only make sense if the cost of the primary power is HIGHER than the cost of the alternative generators.”
Garry, there’s a few other problems these enthusiasts never mention. One is the shortage of rare elements. Many of these very new electric motors require some very rare elements, i.e. one of the things required for engine magnets for these very high performance electric motors is a rare element called Neodymium (element 60). It’s hideously expensive even now and found only in trace quantities.
As for battery technology, which is the real weakness, every one of the electromotive series was identified at least 50 years ago. There are no more, as there are no more elements left in the periodic table. Most of the series are highly unstable, which is why computer batteries get recalls every so often. In short, there are no new breakthroughs in batteries, ever. There are only developments in making existing series stable.
