  1. After such beauty, ugliness. In the “Dominus flevit” department: Charlie Rae Lincoln of Bella Bella was handed the minimum of 10 years for killing her 2 yr. old daughter with a butcher knife
(10 puncture wounds, plus slashings) in order to get even with the child’s father (common-law) whom she accused of having an affair with another woman. The defense claimed that the mother was an alcohol syndrome baby herself, mentally unstable, blah, blah, blah. The judge wouldn’t buy it; nor could she blame the residential school system; she being in her early 20’s. Oh, and the victim’s name … Hope. R.I.P.

I have a neighbour like you. He goes on these tangents, but he’s interesting to watch. One day he’s taking Spanish lessons, the other he’s building a toy steamer. Last time I saw him he was buying a wood lathe. God I wish I could be like that!!

    Archeologists Make Historic Discovery

POROS, Island of Kefalonia, Greece – The tomb of Odysseus has been found, and the location of his legendary capital city of Ithaca discovered here on this large island across a one-mile channel from the bone-dry islet that modern maps call Ithaca.
This could be the most important archeological discovery of the last 40 years, a find that may eventually equal the German archeologist Heinrich Schliemann’s 19th Century dig at Troy. But the quirky people and politics involved in this achievement have delayed by several years the process of reporting the find to the world.

THE Taliban chief who threatened to slaughter Prince Harry has been assassinated by special forces soldiers. Australian marksmen “took out” Mullah Abdul Karim in a secret mission sanctioned by top brass.
It was part of a concerted campaign designed to rid lawless Oruzgan province of hardcore militants.
Similar covert operations are believed to have wiped out more than half a dozen senior Taliban leaders.
Karim gained notoriety last year by describing Harry, then serving with the Household Cavalry in southern Helmand, as an “important chicken”.”

What do Harvard president Larry Summers, Taliban John Walker, Delta Airlines officials and the editors of the New York Times have in common with Yanomamo tribeswomen in the Amazon jungle?
To answer this question is to understand the root cause of liberal “white guilt.” Lakes of ink have been splashed on newspaper, magazine and journal pages ruminating and anguishing over the bottomless guilt that pervades the liberal soul.
Paul Craig Roberts, economist and columnist, writes eloquently about the anti-white racism endemic in American universities that demonizes white males as the font of all evil. Shelby Steele of the Hoover Institute explained in the Wall Street Journal recently how white guilt empowers racist frauds such as Cornel West.
The self-loathing of the white American liberal is as well-established and documented as Einstein’s Special Relativity theorems. A typical example is writer Susan Sontag’s denouncement of the white race as “the cancer of human history.”
A racist hatred of one’s own race – auto-racism – has become a defining characteristic of the liberal mind. Yet the source of such suicidal guilt remains a mystery.
Clearly understanding what disables liberals from wanting to defend their culture is today a mortal necessity – an absolute requirement if America is to be preserved and protected from Moslem terrorists and other folk desirous of her demise.

  17. Nick Cohen, Turning a Blind Eye to Misogyny
A while ago, a BBC producer phoned to tell me I had written a “controversial” book. I knew that already, and gathered from the teeth-sucking sound coming down the line that she did not approve.
“So,” she continued, “we’ve lined up four guests to argue against you.”
I told her to go away — maybe I used a stronger term — and then thought about her predicament. As a biased broadcaster, she wanted to hear my book denounced, but she could not risk organising a one-on-one debate. Maybe I would have come out on top. More probably, some listeners would have agreed with me, others with my opponent, as is the normal way of things. By arranging her show to make it four against one, however, she could maintain the illusion of impartiality while creating the impression in listeners’ mind that the consensus was overwhelmingly against arguments she found uncomfortable. In the interests of “balance” and of letting “everyone have their say”, she would fill 80 per cent of the airtime with advocates of her own political position. I have watched out for rigged debates ever since. They are the surest signal the BBC dares send that an idea does not deserve a hearing in polite society…

    Ottawa killed cellphone cost calculator
    Aug 31, 2009 04:30 AM
    Michael Geist
Last week I discussed the well-known challenge faced by millions of Canadians as they sort through a myriad of cellphone pricing plans in a marketplace still lacking in robust competition.
Previously unreported, however, is that Industry Canada officials identified the same problem and worked for years to develop an online tool to address it.
After spending tens of thousands of dollars creating and testing an online calculator designed to help consumers select their ideal wireless plan, Industry Minister Tony Clement killed the project weeks before it was scheduled to launch…..
……The carriers were apparently concerned that the tool only covered voice services and was geared toward lower-priced plans.
Sensing that Clement was facing pressure to block the calculator, Canadian consumer groups wrote to the minister, urging him to stick with it.
Despite months of preparation, thousands of dollars in taxpayer expense, the creation of an effective tool and the obvious benefits for lower-income Canadians, Clement nevertheless killed the project…….”

Prentice the Dim now joined by Clement the Stunned as the parade of Industry Canada gerbils careen along the road of ineptitude and stupidity.

  19. “an effective tool and the obvious benefits for lower-income Canadians, Clement nevertheless killed the project”
Good job, Tony. The government is not expected to babysit the incompetent consumers, whose concern is to stay ‘cool’ with new gadgets while saving a buck or two a month. Oh, horror, some are confused by the market proposals! I’d be happier if they did not have cellphones at all, my life would not be in danger that often as I am driving to and from work.

  20. Was nearly killed a few days ago by a 50+ bloke, driving his minivan while texting on a blackberry with both hands. Observed how he continued to zigzag among three lanes while doing 120+ in rush hour. I am all broken about the prospect of him paying extra $20 a month for his habit!

We pay the highest cell phone rates in the world bozo.
Monopolistic practices and regulatory manipulation has given the telcos superior profit for nothing more than acting as monopolies/oligopolies when required.
Anyone who would argue against full disclosure or more informed consumers is not much of a person.

  22. “Canada’s economic growth offers hope**”.
    GlobeMail is high on hOpe*.
But, fear not; GlobeMail gives credit to the Conservative government:
“Consumer spending, which equals more than 60 per cent of Canada’s economy, rose 0.4 per cent in the second quarter after falling 0.3 per cent in the January-March period.
But much of that spending is related to the extraordinary efforts of Finance Minister Jim Flaherty and Mr. Carney to stimulate spending.”
The credit goes to Canadians; not hope.
    Here she* is again:
“Hope* is charming, lively, blue-eyed wench, & I am always glad of her company, but could dispense with the visitor she brings with her, her younger sister, fear*, a white liver’d-lilly-cheeked, bashful palpitating, awkward hussey that hangs like a green girl at her sister’s apron strings & will go with her whithersoever she goes.”

Sucks to be a socialist, you want a toy and cannot afford it, and are blaming the federal government for not helping you decide who to buy the toy from for a few bucks less.
Compare that with refusal of the federal government to regulate the emerging VOIP market, which is pushed to quickly replace the regular phones.
When one switches and discovers that it is not possible to use Fax or modem communication, which was never disclosed by the providers, and the federal body tells you ‘tough luck’ after you invest into VOIP hardware and installation fees…
You, socialist kind, always have ridiculous complaints and miss the real things. Sucks to be you, crybaby.

  26. School uniforms is an issue which has caused a lot of debate in the last few years. Many students feel they lose their identity when everyone is required to wear the same clothes to schools. Others feel a school uniform makes students equal. Many teachers and school administrators are looking to a school uniform or a uniform dress code as a means for instilling a feeling of discipline in the classes as well as an atmosphere of learning.
Some English students have recently come out in support of school uniforms. According to a survey of 1,300 teens, 67% of the boys and 52% of the girls prefer wearing uniforms to school.
So, as a new or seasoned teacher, where do you stand with regard to the uniform debate? Here are some pros and cons to help get you started.
    Reasons For Wearing School Uniforms
•It helps save time in the morning
    •It stops feelings of jealousy
•It helps reduce discipline problems – teachers can teach and students can learn.
•It sets the tone for a proper work attitude
    Reasons Against Wearing School Uniforms
•It takes away students’ freedom to make decisions
•It hurts the need for self-expression
•It stops students from feeling unique and special.
•Students don’t want to wear what everybody else is wearing
School catholic Uniform can idnetify them as their catholic or etiher all school need uniformo or they do not, uniform is good but must good for summer and winte and cover body of innocnet children and not reveal their body of them to strangers when they walk in street like catholic mini skirt uniform must made it longer below teh knees or wear pants

  27. “Baseball Cards And The Current Economy (What baseball cards reveal about basic economics)
In a high-profile 1991 transaction, hockey great Wayne Gretzky and Los Angeles Kings owner Bruce McNall bought the elusive T206 Honus Wagner baseball card for $451,000. The American Tobacco Co. produced the T206 from 1909 to 1911, but only 50 were ever distributed to the public. As early as 1933, the card could supposedly fetch $50 on the collectibles market, which made it the most expensive baseball card in the world.
The year 1991 isn’t only notable for the Gretzky/McNall purchase. It also marked the peak year for baseball-card sales. According to estimates from Sports Collector’s Digest, card sales amounted to $1.2 billion in 1991, but by the end of the millennium total sales had declined to $400 million, and last year sales dropped all the way to $200 million.
For followers of economics, the modern history of the baseball-card industry offers useful lessons about market responses to profit, anti-trust laws, business failure and inflation.
The years surrounding the sale of the iconic Wagner card generated a lot of investor interest in baseball cards. Sensing huge potential profits, newer entrants Fleer, Donruss, Score, Stadium Club and Upper Deck joined more established card company Topps in pursuit of large gains.
Politicians frequently wring their hands over businesses being too profitable on the backs of allegedly hapless consumers, but their worries are overdone. As evidenced by the market for baseball cards, new entrants did as they’ve always done when it comes to lowering profit margins in pursuit of, yes, profits.”

“Obama faces growing anger on the left
By the time this year’s tally for gay service members discharged under the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy had hit 250, Rep. Alcee L. Hastings said he could wait no longer.
The Florida Democrat decided in June to send a letter to President Obama demanding that the policy be repealed. Mr. Hastings said he was surprised when 76 other members – most of them fellow Democrats – agreed to add their signatures, and even more surprised when the letter went unanswered for the next two months.
    “We’re being ignored,” he said.
The president won’t be able to ignore the simmering discontent within his own party much longer, the congressman said, not on this military policy or on a range of other issues on which the president appears to be charting a course that veers away from his political base.
Evidence of this has been abundant in the health care debate, where a core group of Democrats reacted angrily to signs that the White House was getting ready to abandon a public insurance plan as part of its health care bill. But anxiety is growing in other areas, too. Environmentalists dislike the watering down of climate change legislation in the House. Anti-war activists are unhappy with the president’s escalation in Afghanistan. This list goes on.”

The solution to the problem is to eliminate the regulatory manipulation that facilitates monopolistic practices and to introduce a free market, not for government to provide “an online calculator designed to help consumers select their ideal wireless plan”.
