Is There Nothing That Obama Can’t Do?

A party in power grows increasingly thuggish;

What the town-hall meetings represent is a feeling of rebellion, an uprising against change they do not believe in. And the Democratic response has been stunningly crude and aggressive. It has been to attack. Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the United States House of Representatives, accused the people at the meetings of “carrying swastikas and symbols like that.” (Apparently one protester held a hand-lettered sign with a “no” slash over a swastika.) But they are not Nazis, they’re Americans. Some of them looked like they’d actually spent some time fighting Nazis.
Then came the Democratic Party charge that the people at the meetings were suspiciously well-dressed, in jackets and ties from Brooks Brothers. They must be Republican rent-a-mobs. Sen. Barbara Boxer said on MSNBC’s “Hardball” that people are “storming these town hall meetings,” that they were “well dressed”, that “this is all organized,” “all planned,” to “hurt our president.” Here she was projecting. For normal people, it’s not all about Barack Obama.

“Thuggish” too strong a word?

As this column is written, there comes word that John Sweeney of the AFL-CIO has announced he’ll be sending in union members to the meetings to counter health care’s critics.

You know what they say – you can take the politician out of Chicago….

“But I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess. I don’t mind cleaning up after them, but don’t do a lot of talking.”

But the One needs your help in shutting people up. David Harsanyi explains“If you’re a virtuous and patriotic American, you may find this column either offensive or misleading. If so, please forward it to White House authorities at the Department of Fishy Activity. (E-mail the good people at flag@whitehouse.gov)
There’s plenty of video of those Nazis who won’t shut up at Drudge this morning.
And these just in: dangerous mob photos smuggled out of town hall meetings…

  1. Once the power of persuasion starts failing, it’s time to turn on the persuasion of power.

  2. One day when things are back to normal and the Americans remember what it is to be American, if that day ever comes; this tactic of belittling, demonizing, and denying the validity of protesters will come back to haunt them. The two “conservative” protests are a 100% increase in the number of conservative protests that I’ve seen in my life; whereas, the progressives live and die by the protest. It will be very difficult for progressives to garner any support for future protests and causes because they would have divulged their playbook accusing the conservative protesters of the very shenanigans they’ll inevitably implement once America has RIGHTED itself.

  3. OhKeny dont realize that Americans will not bow down to fascism, and for the moment the protesters are civil…peeair idiot he dont be.

  4. This thread may be dead, but I just saw the video of Obama taken when he uttered those words. His arrogance is just unbelievable. What an imperious prig.

  5. Oz:
Do you think they’ll need Dems to form that supermajority and if so, do you think Dems will impeach the historically first Black President in U.S. history?
History has a wierd way of going in directions we never would have anticipated. At least thats my hope. We can dream can’t we? Frankly he will get probably about as much punishment as a certain PM here who was a consumate crook, in a like style, only not as big a mouth. He just got a rare medal from the Queen.
It would be nice if justice where served up. To take America from being the Worlds only Superpower to a secound World slum in 6 months is an increadable job in its self.

  6. Revnant Dream – to be fair to Obama, he inherited a large economic problem that developed over decades – so these problems didn’t just develop in six months – but his approach to try to solve complex issues is just juvenile, let alone a misguided desire to reform US health care in the midst of an economic s-storm.

  7. “”””- but his approach to try to solve complex issues is just juvenile””””
actually, this is axelrod and rahm’s divide and conquer MO

  8. Five Feet of Fury has a link to a poll that can go horribly wrong. My sister suggested the following – sign on with some horrible name (I signed Hitler Youth) and sign your email address as flag@whitehouse.com which it the email address to report people who oppose Obamacare. Add some inane comment and make sure you do not check the box so that the flag@whitehouse.com email address will get follow ups.

  9. Most of the comments are seriously unhinged. I can’t keep track of all the conspiracies that are listed. I think some of these readers need to get out more, maybe read some different material. Try learning about economics, political science, anything for that matter. Try reading the WSJ or the Economist.

  11. “The left is detestable, in almost every possible incarnation.”
Worse is that they have hijacked and impugned the original concept of classical liberalism (as I understand things – someone more scholarly may have to give me an educational smack upside my head).
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_liberalism
Quote: “Classical liberalism places a particular emphasis on the sovereignty of the individual, with private property rights being seen as essential to individual liberty. This forms the philosophical basis for laissez-faire public policy. The ideology of the original classical liberals argued against direct democracy “for there is nothing in the bare idea of majority rule to show that majorities will always respect the rights of property or maintain rule of law.” For example, James Madison argued for a constitutional republic with protections for individual liberty, over a pure democracy, reasoning that in a pure democracy, a “common passion or interest will, in almost every case, be felt by a majority of the whole…and there is nothing to check the inducements to sacrifice the weaker party…”
Was Madison saying that an “enlightened” majority will always vote themselves more stuff?

Effing brilliant comment (but not really news). I am also reminded of mud pig wrestling, wherein one of the participants…
Oh nevermind, I’m preaching to the choir here.

Yes, let’s behave like the idiots we despise. You might want to re-think.

  14. how long does it take to turn a republic into a dictatorship? there must be someone out there, no millions of armed americans out there who still want freedom. by the way, freedom to do what the government says is not freedom.

  15. erik. o has spent more money than the u.s. has spent since the declaration of independence. i don’t remember who said this but it is appropriate. “when small men cast long shadows the sun is setting.”

  16. Piper Paul – you fight with every tool you have – no one is advocating violence but this is a form of civil disobedience. If an administration is going to tout how new media savvy, they are then they need to be fought with new media.

Whatever happened to the standard issue Old Lady’s hatpin?
Used to be many a wayward thug has gotten his comeuppence that way.
    And knitting needles!
Boy oh boy, an old marm can really let the air out of a Union thug with a knitting needle.

  18. Yep and once upon a time there was a thing called respect and civility.
There were also nuns who could terrorize a classroom of 16 year old teenaged boys with a ruler. But I digress……… 🙂
But seriously …. The people who are now geezer age are the grandchildren or great grandchidren of that hatpin generation.
I’m officially in the demographic at 55+ so these are my peeps dude. As much as I detest many of my peers as self absorbed dicks that never put their own interests out of the way and feel entitled to just about anything that they can be convinced they want…. well …. some of us are just not made that way.
Many of us who watched the hippy a$$holes of the 60’s get away with that sh!t are not about to let their obnoxious children try it out on us.

  19. “I wait for the Day Osama is impeached.”
    ~Revnant Dream>>
You would need to be a ligitimate president to be impeached.
