  1. Well! That worked out okay.As to the question,I’d have to say neither,as Kate isn’t that stupid, and the repairs should only be around 10 grand, unlike the Owe’s 10 trillion.

  2. Remember kids, trees, like people, fall in the direction of the under cut, not the upper cut.

  3. Dumb a**!! Appears he had the notch on the correct side but he did neither 1/ angle cut from above the notch nor 2/ attach a rope to ensure it fell away from the house. Obviously Kate wasn’t involved in this “Keystone Cops” routine.

  4. Say it isn’t so Kate.
Besides, doesn’t Kate have caragana bushes about her house?
    Or saskatoon bushes?
And are there trees that huge on main street in Delisle saskatchewan?

  5. DrD that’s exactly what I was thinking…LOL
Hundred and a half or so, compared to destroying half you house. Wonder if their insurance will cover this?

  6. As my Grandpa used to say, “looks like a cyclone hit the place”.
Love the doggie-picture on the fence.

  7. and for those of us that read the “other” link…
“first they came for the conservatives so I wasn’t concerned”

  8. “I didn’t realize that Delisle was sitting on a Rez.”
Sean, y’all goin to pay fer that one. Funny yeah, but I wouldn’t want to be you… think Kate with a nailgun.

  9. and for those of us that read the “other” link ~ the bear
What do you expect? The other link isn’t nearly as titillating.

    Ok, I’m thinking it.
    And am now strangely aroused!
    Thanks!

  11. When felling trees near structures I tend to err on the side of caution.
Despite lacking the agility of my youth….I generally scale the tree as high as practical and by means of a chain attach a LONG cable and attach it to about 7 tons of tractor….manned by somebody competant….then I proceed…..
The cable ensures the tree starts in the correct direction and then Newtons Law ensues…..bullseye…works for me….
    It’s not cheating…it’s technique….

  12. Speaking of fallout!
    CBC.ca ran this headline today,
“Canada Lost 45,000 more jobs in July.”
    Truth:
Canada lost 45,000 jobs, but it gained the same number, so our national job rate is steady.
So why did the headline not read, “Canada’s job rate is holding steady.”
Answer: That headline would not hurt the Conservatives.
As for the guy on the chainsaw, five bucks says he lost his job.

  13. I agree with sasquatch.
No matter where or how you make a notch the tree is going to fall the way it’s leaning.
The only thing that will stop it is a restraint.

  14. Geez, Guys, when you take down a tree close to a building you bring it down in short pieces, starting from the top!

  15. I’ve read that beavers die from felling trees on themselves fairly regularly.
People are supposed to be smarter than beavers, though.

  16. …Kate’s picture looks like something the National Methane Gas Association would use for a toilet poster child.

  17. Looking at Kate`s picture (the update) makes me think, wow, this girl needs help. I can`t come with a hammer, but if a few of you others will match the $50 I just donated, maybe we can get this thing done quick, so she can spend her time blogging.
    Consider this a challenge.

  18. I took down three similar sized tree around my place and I tossed up a grapple hook on a rope and had a helper pull in the direction I wanted the fall. It worked just fine and left plenty of time for the puller to get out of the way.
    Whose house was that anyway?

  19. To me, the amazing thing isn’t the stupid stuff that people do, but the amazing presence of people who “just happen to be standin’ around” calmly taking videos of the mayhem. WTF?

  20. zog..my guess is that the camera person had a feeling ‘things would not go as planned’.

  21. I think its a great metaphore for what is happening to the Obummer Presidency!

  22. Print no Lies
“Canada lost 45,000 jobs, but it gained the same number, so our national job rate is steady.”
Can you link me to an article or document that supports this statement? I’d like one for myself.TY

  23. At first glance you could tell the tree leaned the wrong way, towards the house, and the heavy branch on that side guaranteed it was going through the roof.
A simple $5 faller’s wedge from any farm or forestry supply store, and it’s no problem falling the tree AWAY from the house.
    But that’s from a Faller’s perspective.

  24. What did they think they were doing. I am an amateur but I does a better job than that. A little thought before you saw, please.

  25. Good point Joe Molner. I don’t believer this film clip as there are no trees in Canada’s boomingmost province.

  26. the main roof has a sag(still photo), so maybe Kate actually hired the right guys…

  27. I’m gonna guess that’s Al Franken at his cottage in Minnesota one fine winter’s afternoon.

  28. me thinks Kate has a little more than a roof repair there, lots of rot on the bottom of the structure as well
knew I should have offered my services:-))))
    and
as for the tree feller, that was funny. Have to wonder how much he made on the video:-)))

  29. Guy couln’t even shut the chainsaw down afterwards. That was the most disturbing to me.

  30. Why shut it down, there’s bucking to be done. No rope to a vehicle putting a heavy strain on it, no wedges = No porch!!

  31. To quote my aged father who has been an amateur suburban tree feller for decades, before the video started running.
“Some people should just not be allowed to use chainsaws and other sharp instrumnets, nothing good can come from what he’s doing.”
