The July 17th link cites 100,000 people passing thru the 600 court room each day. That’s 166.6 people a day (I’m assuming LA has creatures that constitute 0.6 of a person…) With that kind of throughput, it reminds me of the sitcom “night court”

When I say “tax cut now please”, this is the kind of result I envision, but on a more pervasive scale with less disruption.
It is hard for Judge Barbara Zuniga to screw over 1000 people when she has no courtroom, no lackeys, and no paycheck.

Hey, I am libertarian, and delight to see the reduxction of “government”. I notice the California State Bureaucracy uis following the norms of government reduction: Cut those part that hurt the piopulace most; protect those parts i.e. the bureaucrats, that have least impact on the populace.

California is now considering “Pay As You Drive” car insurance. If you don’t drive much, you won’t pay as much; if you drive a lot, you pay more.
Some people are fighting this because they think the insurance companies will gather the information electronically using GPS, and then sell it to other companies; others are objecting on privacy issues. My issue is if you don’t drive very much, like the proverbial little old lady, aren’t you more likely to be a worse driver? I mean, does anyone get worse at something by practicing it more? Must be more of that left coast reasoning.
BTW, the article also states that there is a variant of “Pay As You Drive” in Ontario. I’ve been driving in Ontario for nearly 40 years, and I’ve never heard of this option. Anyone else?

The last thing you should cut in times of budget trouble are the basic services required of government: law enforcement and the legal system. These are why we have government to protect us from others and to punish those who do harm us. All the other stuff is superficial – and more expensive.

He’s a judge, for heaven’s sake. Why doesn’t he charge everybody involved with contempt of court?
The crisis in California is an interesting one. From past crises they have brought forth some pretty significant politicians most notably Reagan and ahnold.
Let’s see who the Cali GOP brings forward this time.
