In the midst of the worst economic recession since Jimmy Carter;
Employment levels in Saskatchewan jumped way up in May, to the highest level ever recorded in any month in the province’s history. Statistics Canada data released Friday indicate there were 530,100 people employed in the province, which was up 12,600 from May of last year and up by a seasonally-adjusted 3,100 jobs from April of this year.
Undeterred, the NDP are in Regina today, coming up with creative ways to fix that. (Shorter version here).

Let’s see. Saskatchewan has massive amounts of Uranium and one of the world’s largest Uranium companies headquartered there … and the NDP want to prevent its development?
“In the midst of the worst economic recession since Jimmy Carter”
Hey, Kate, remember when you were insistent that the economy wasn’t in trouble despite every indication that it was?
Just checking 😉
Jim, remember when I explained (on multiple occasions) that the “high alert” series was a media critique, not an economic update? (BTW, the same folks are now busy championing signs of the “recovery”…)
Employment in manufacturing dropped as did employment in the forestry, fishing, mining and oil gas industries.
The preponderance of the new jobs in government or government-related activities creates issues about whether the job growth in Saskatchewan will be sustainable in the future when there isn’t as much government money to stimulate the economy, Elliott said.
Hmm.
It seems having the dippers booted from office was the best economic driver SK has even seen. Who knew it would be that easy!
The only reason to look back now, Saskatchewan, is to understand how fortunate you were to escape the sanctimonious leadership which held you back for so many years.
They hide behind their self-righteous political rhetoric and pretended it was their religious duty to make the world a better place for humanity.
They forget that Christ came to save humanity from the world and are nothing more than control freaks cloaked in some perverted form of Christianity that is unrecognizable from its original message.
Alberta has never voted in an NDP government and never will.
I’m confident Saskatchewan has learned from the mistakes of its past.
Well the membership of the NDP fell from 21,000 to 13,000 or about 40%. That is a significant part of the population that is no longer with the NDP. What is the percentage against nuclear power?
Saskatchewan can be damned glad there are enough common sense people in the Province to have voted those buggers OUT!
Now, for your sakes, don’t let them back in!
The Saskatchewan New Democrats Resolution Package makes clear that the NDs are no more and no less than an agitating front for a socialist confiscation-racket. The resolutions and amendments amount to one colossal demand for an vastly expanded public sector, especially jobs for progressive activists, academics and counsellors:
“Research and production of wind, solar, geo-thermal research and production”;
“Research and development of composting, biogas, biomass; educational programs for farmers and the general public”;
“A public transportation strategy **to link all communities in the province**“,
A public education program to “inform people of the need to limit the use of bottled water for the sake of our health, our earth’s health, and our human rights”;
Opposition to Public-Private partnerships;
A requirement that “developers of rental conversions…conduct reserve fund studies prior to rental conversions being placed on the market” (i.e. govt. jobs for those who will insert themselves between owners and buyers);
The repeal of the Trade Union Act, handing power back to public sector unions;
A Guaranteed Income Plan to “ensure that no person in Saskatchewan lives below the poverty line;
Paid meal breaks for all workers in Saskatchewan and a mandated reduction in the work week;
Initiation of a government education program on the issues of homophobic and transphobic bullying; Enforced “*restorative justice programs*” for those who bully; “sensitivity training, and peer counselling for parents, teachers, counselors, administrators and students to ‘address the unique needs of queer students;”
The implementation of a “robust anti-aging strategy for Saskatchewan”;
The hiring of “fieldworkers, on a part of fulltime basis, to assist constituencies…to develop and carry out membership, education and organization programs..”;
The provision of “affordable accommodation at institutions such as Luther College, University campuses, billeting, etc.” in order to “encourage and facilitate more youth to attend (NDP) Conventions.
In short, “THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the New Democratic Party of Saskatchewan will honestly help to educate workers that the road to peace and security can only come with working class solidarity, leading to a socialist state.”
Because non-NDPers don’t work, eh?
“”A public transportation strategy **to link all communities in the province**””
we call them roads
The live feed shows 150 to 160 viewers; probably all from the SDA link. Way to go Kate. Oooh, they’re just doing another Tommy Douglas invocation.
People have short memories. The CPC is at it’s lowest in Quebec for example. People who are natural Dippers didn’t really change their beliefs. They are fence sitters and were never too sure that Free Enterprise would work. Not that there is “proof” that it doesn’t, look for a sea change in opinion that will be blamed on conservatives by the MSM.
Socialism is steady; no large ups and downs. Everyone but the elite at the top are constantly poor. The dumb bu**ars at the bottom never clue in to the constantly and fruitless job hunts. And who’s to care; there’s EI isn’t there?
The implementation of a “robust anti-aging strategy for Saskatchewan”
Do they mean bumping people off on their 65th birthdays or do they mean developing economic strategies that don’t drive all the young people to Alberta for a job?
Over half of Saskatchewan residents now work for a living… a remarkable achievement.
And the Leader Post (which I haven’t read for years) almost sounds like they are actually cheering.
Plus the real news is found in the headline:
Saskatchewan Roughriders make profit exceeding $1.6M in 2008 (Go Riders)
Saskatchewan is now officially the Texas of the north.
Brad Wall for Prime Minister.
“Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.”
– Alexis de Toqueville, 1830
I encourage Saskatchewan to continue to march alongside Alberta. Both have now thrown off the shackles and arein the post-Trudeau era into which the citizens of the US are now willingly becoming enslaved.
Not to worry Kate. The lamestream media is furiously spinning America’s economic collapse under the Urkel administration:

FOR THE FUNEMPLOYED, UNEMPLOYMENT IS WELCOME
While millions of Americans struggle to find work as they face foreclosures and bankruptcy, others have found a silver lining in the economic meltdown. These happily jobless tend to be single and in their 20s and 30s.
“I feel like I’ve been given a gift of time and clarity,” said Aubrey Howell, 29, of Franklin, Tenn., who was laid off from her job as a tea shop manager in April. After sleeping in late and visiting family in Florida, she recently mused on Twitter: “Unemployment or funemployment?”
Yay! It’s fun being unemployed.
The implementation of a “robust anti-aging strategy for Saskatchewan”…Do they mean bumping people off… ~ Kathryn
The health care system that the socialists have forced on us is already doing that.
On page 10 of the 2009 Convention Resolutions, about half way down on page 10, it refers to “Afghanistan to Columbia to Mexico…” and in in the past when I’ve read about Colombia in “The Prairie Dog”, the writers have misspelt it in the same manner, quite consistently. Is this part of the protest mentality, or is it something these folks cannot understand? Are they dropping the “British” in British Columbia to be cool? or do they refer to the country that has been fighting their brothers in arms (FARC) for the past 45 years?
Not only does Saskatchewan have a lot of Uranium they have the highest grade deposits in the world.
Where in other places deposits of 1% are considered high grade some companies such as Hathor are reporting drill intercepts as high as 84%. Saskatchewan has a cheap, abundant and co2 friendly fuel in their back yard. They should use it.
**to link all communities in the province**
I always get pissed off when I hear the “communities” crap from the left. Here in Hamilton it’s just an excuse to take the money away from neighborhoods that need the money and spread it out to left causes who don’t need the money. There is no Black community, or gay community or Muslim community etc. here. There is a huge poor community and you can drive down and take a look at it. They don’t get any money.
They manage to divert money from the poor by their insidious use of statistics. Then they give to middle class and upper middle class people who support leftist causes.
An upper class women married to a professional is considered a victim so they fast track a job for her. A poor white guy with two kids is considered a privileged person and denied work.
My rant for the day.
Ah … one pines for the halcyon days of the past when the largest employer was the government, militant trade unions buggered employers at their leisure, paved highways were gradually converted to gravel roads, switching your social assistance payment from cheque to direct deposit was considered a good career move and the socialists waited impatiently in Regina for the cheque to arrive from Ottawa.
This new era of prosperity and confidence is unfamiliar and frightening compared to the previous pervading atmosphere of despair and hopelessness.
“A public transportation strategy **to link all communities in the province**”,
Isn’t that called a road? The same construct that the NDP systematically allowed to deteriorate over its tenure?
In regards to this resolution:
ES9. WHEREAS government wastes money administering means tests to receive government
assistance; and
WHEREAS the government often claws back money a person makes from government
assistance.
Since when did *receiving* assistance qualify as *making* money? Another wonderful example of the vapid thinking that permeates the socialist mind.
“Socialism is steady; no large ups and downs”
Manitoba is an entire province built on this principle.
“robust anti-aging strategy for Saskatchewan”
I think that’s called Euthanasia.
