10 Replies to “Plagiarism At The Conference Board of Canada: Update”

  1. It should be noted that Michael Geist is a LIBERAL, folks. As such, his own independence in this issue should merit serious questioning. It is one thing to criticize a report based on plagiarism, but quite another to support policies and practices that would purposefully undermine the ability of Canadian corporations to do business here and around the world.

  2. A small concession to public policy truth. Now that plagiarism has been admitted in attempting to demonize the laisezz faire internet culture with plagiarism, perhaps this government policy sycophant will admit whose anti fair use agenda they are pimping as well.
Clarification: Michael Geist is a true classic liberal, not the corporate patronized authoritarian control freaks in partisan politics who hide behind the liberal label these days.

  3. Public policy my asp. The fruit of my brow, honey, is a
matter of contract. Hopefully the law keeps up with me.
It would be a shame to see all that product go to waste.

  4. Unfortunately …. truth won’t matter when the decisions are made about who is or is not a criminal in the digital world.

  5. OMMAG, truth or fairness doesn’t enter into it. Vitruvius, you don’t have the freedom to possess property in this country, intellectual or physical. This isn’t about protecting your non-existent rights. This is about taxes and favors to lobbyists.
The internet is seen simultaneously as bandit territory and an untapped source of tax wealth by the mandarinate of Ottawa. They have no interest other than -self- interest.
They want to tame the webby wilderness and make it into a nice rice paddy. A plantation if you will, complete with serfs to keep it running in a smooth, predictable and boring fashion like every other endeavor in Canada, slowly creating wealth for them to wisely distribute wherever it will do -them- the most good.
Lying, cheating and stealing toward this noble end is not merely business as usual, it is the highest moral act one could perform for one’s country.
May they all contract a terminal plague of boils.

  6. In practice, Phantom, one has freedom to own
property in this country. I know this because I do.
But in theory: I don’t know, I’m still practicing.

  7. Ask the drug companies how that whole IP rights thing is working for them. Your IP belongs to you and you alone… until somebody important wants it.
Which makes it all the greater farce that the CBoC is plagiarizing in aid of their stand to protect IP “rights” on the internet, “rights” which nobody actually has. They’re protecting Hollywood’s idiot business model, because Hollywood gives really great lobby perks is what’s up here.
Boils upon them, I say. Plague of ’em. Terminal!

  8. Sorry Vit., I disagree, perhaps in Western Can. you may think you own your property but find a rare creature on it and the Natural resourse people will freeze it and direct its use,(shoot, shovel & shut up). Also own a building deemed by someone a heritage bldg. bingo you get to pay upkeep and taxes but can’t obtain fair value. Finally, as in Ont. that farm you own on the outskirts of town the developers want to pay you for, well, McGinty, declared it, untouchable except for farming – goodbye retirement.
