The so-called investigator just responded to a reporter’s question about why he did not examine further the disputed claim that the Lingenfelter camp paid for 1100 phony memberships in cash because it was hard to issue a cheque for that purpose.

Update: It gets better. Now they’re being pushed – hard – on why the case hasn’t been turned over to police, due to the fact that there clearly are forged signatures involved … good on the local reporters here. They’re doing their job, and doing it well today.

It would seem reasonable that the police would need a complaint by someone that was falsely made a member of the NDP. It could prove interesting if in the future a simple security clearance turned up that membership (you didn’t have any Knowledge about) and couldn’t explain how that could have happened! So they take the word of two Lingenfelter campaign execs, one of which is a partner in the notoriously-NDP law firm Olive Waller Zinkhan, and the other being Roy Romanow’s former Chief of Staff? Without any other independant evidence?

I like how this Bob Hale fellow when asked if he thought there was a fraud committed and if this should be refered to the police. He says that is someone elses decision. He was asked again about whether he thought a fraud had occured and since he was a lawyer he should know the law pertaining to such. Weaseled his way out of that one. Gotta love it when you have a gotcha!

It is unbelievable that any investigation on this matter could be concluded and a report written without speaking to the accused/perpetrator. There are definitely laws broken here and questions to be answered about the money. The police shouldn’t need to be proded to investigate when there has clearly been documents that have been forged. How does one avoid being held accountable simply because he/she doesn’t answer the phone? We need to force this issue and get the answers.
This seems like a sham of an investigation and whitewashing conclusions. convenient fiction.
NDP members should be very concerned, as should be the rest of Saskatchewanians, who may have Link as the official opposition leader.
No one – not even the provincial media has clued into the fact that Robert Hale is the Swift Current Lawyer who stepped in to be the NDP candidate in Brad Wall’s constituency when the notorious Jeff Potts blew it with outrageous allegations about Wall in the last provincial election.

$10 per membership X 1100 = $11,000
The reporter repeatably states “More than $10,000”
Those are weasel words often used by lawyers to cover any amount more than the $11,000

Apparently, a large number of those memberships, roughly half, were purchased at the student/unemployed rate, which, I believe, is less than $10.
