Yesterday Miss California came up in the news because “The Donald” was going to make his decision about her future. Reminds me of a case my dad was involved with around 30 years ago. Joseph Otto. He had tied a little girl to a tree and well you all can figure out the rest. Thankfully she survived.
Dad tracked him down and did the arrest. Time came for the parole board to do its thing. Dad went to the hearing and Otto begged them to not release him. He was terrified at what he was capable of. Of course their desicion was off you go Mr Otto, enjoy life on the outside.
Within a couple months, two little ones were dead and Otto was under arrest again. Different jurisdiction this time.
As much as dad wanted to put a bullet between his eyes, he wanted to have the parole board charged as accessories to double murder.
This stuff will not change until those responsible for setting these vile creatures loose on the rest of us can be held criminally and/or civilly liable for any future mayhem caused. Those involved in such a release should have to face the victims (or their surviving family) from the witness stand and explain their actions under oath. Watch the system tighten up then!

Not trying to be confrontational, but can you provide an example of criminal legislation (no pun intended) that arranges the various interests as you describe? While what you describe is certainly how the system seems to work, I don’t think it’s explicitly worded like that in the actual law.
I believe that cases like these — Dumais, Otto, Homolka, and too many others — are indeed the fault of individuals. Once you get judges, lawyers, social workers, parole officers and others with a sense of “social justice” into the system, that’s when you get these results. It begins with leniency in a couple of cases — perhaps even for legitimate extenuating circumstances — which then become cited as precedent for future cases. Eventually, some social justice wonk ties these precedents to some Badge of Honour — race, gender, addiction, whatever — and the precedent becomes more insidious.
After a long period of this, I guess you would indeed see legislation being revised to enshrine victimhood, entitlement and blamelessness — so you probably will be able to find legislation on the books that does just what you describe. But I would argue that it begins with corrupt and morally bankrupt individuals: it was a social justice activist that swayed a court, or that made it as far as the bench itself and corrupted the court.
With sufficient research, I’m sure we could find those responsible — someone just needs to read through all those cases, and the seeds of the rot will be found.

I often bloviate on this topic, and if I remember correctly you and perhaps a few others have gone to bat(haha) for me. Sometimes I feel like I’m being too crass, and I’m generalizing too much, but I can’t figure out how to express myself more accurately, not to appear bigoted. I have noticed that I’m usually a couple months ahead of the issue. I’ll comment in May and get blasted; then, a few months later calling women out is vogue. So from time to time my comment is simply “vindication”.
I’m trying to be that man you speak of. I start first with my own actions at home, being a good father and husband, participating in my kid(s) education and providing them the tools cope with the world; and hopefully setting an example for them so they are equip to find the right type of man(or dare I say woman). After that I try to ruffle the feathers of those I speak to(perhaps not the right approach) by challenging the “settled” issues.
BTW I understand that all conservatives disagree with me but I still hold my position. Black men in the US have been using rap music to express their views on this topic(and others) for decades now. Unfortunately nobody has been listening, just criticizing and berating the views of the aforementioned men, not one drop of empathy! Reminds me of a case my dad was involved with around 30 years ago. Joseph Otto. He had tied a little girl to a tree and well you all can figure out the rest. Thankfully she survived.
Dad tracked him down and did the arrest. Time came for the parole board to do its thing. Dad went to the hearing and Otto begged them to not release him. He was terrified at what he was capable of. Of course their desicion was off you go Mr Otto, enjoy life on the outside.
Within a couple months, two little ones were dead and Otto was under arrest again. Different jurisdiction this time.
As much as dad wanted to put a bullet between his eyes, he wanted to have the parole board charged as accessories to double murder.
This stuff will not change until those responsible for setting these vile creatures loose on the rest of us can be held criminally and/or civilly liable for any future mayhem caused. Those involved in such a release should have to face the victims (or their surviving family) from the witness stand and explain their actions under oath. Watch the system tighten up then!

It’s a BIG LIE for Leftists to assert that if handguns are legal for CC, that there will be more baddies with guns. Fact is that baddies will get guns illegally even when guns can be purchased at a proper store. After all, the permission for CCW would necessarily have to be strictly limited to only the most upstanding citizens with no criminal record whatsoever, so most baddies will be unable to get one legally anyway.
The balance will therefore be massively restored between baddies and law-abiding citizens. Many of us would be victims no more, should we choose to take advantage of our right to be armed.
Besides, the POS in question here used a knife in the commission of his crimes. A knife is no match for a nine-mm, a 357 or 45, now, is it? Therefore, if we had CCW permissions, it’s conceivable that this scumbag wouldn’t be around anymore, as one of his victims may very well have been CCW and exercised their right of self-defence, or a bystander would’ve done something about the scumbag, either by pointing it to his head and getting him to stop simply by ordering so, or, if he refused to stop, putting him out of his misery.
It’s incredible that our state apparatus currently forbids us to be capable of defending ourselves from armed criminals!

This is a systemic failure, not a fault of any number of individuals in the courts, parole boards or whatever. The system is driven bay legislation that puts the interests of the state first, interests of the perpetrator second and the interests of the victims are not mentioned anywhere at all. The accused may refuse to testify, but the victims will be dragged thru mud of replaying the horror again and again, by police, by crown, by defense lawyers… That in itself punishes the victims 2x. The lenient sentencing and early release make it 4x. How do you spell ‘gutless’?

You nailed it. If some of these victims had been armed, would this guy still be around? To broaden the scope, how many violent offenders or sex offenders would be around today if we had these laws in place decades ago.

After a long period of this, I guess you would indeed see legislation being revised to enshrine victimhood, entitlement and blamelessness — so you probably will be able to find legislation on the books that does just what you describe. But I would argue that it begins with corrupt and morally bankrupt individuals: it was a social justice activist that swayed a court, or that made it as far as the bench itself and corrupted the court.
With sufficient research, I’m sure we could find those responsible — someone just needs to read through all those cases, and the seeds of the rot will be found.

For the record I admire women, especially the ones you speak of. I believe I’ve commented that “conservative women are hot” and I’m not talking physically(only).
I often bloviate on this topic, and if I remember correctly you and perhaps a few others have gone to bat(haha) for me. Sometimes I feel like I’m being too crass, and I’m generalizing too much, but I can’t figure out how to express myself more accurately, not to appear bigoted. I have noticed that I’m usually a couple months ahead of the issue. I’ll comment in May and get blasted; then, a few months later calling women out is vogue. So from time to time my comment is simply “vindication”.
I’m trying to be that man you speak of. I start first with my own actions at home, being a good father and husband, participating in my kid(s) education and providing them the tools cope with the world; and hopefully setting an example for them so they are equip to find the right type of man(or dare I say woman). After that I try to ruffle the feathers of those I speak to(perhaps not the right approach) by challenging the “settled” issues.
BTW I understand that all conservatives disagree with me but I still hold my position. Black men in the US have been using rap music to express their views on this topic(and others) for decades now. Unfortunately nobody has been listening, just criticizing and berating the views of the aforementioned men, not one drop of empathy! I’m not saying rappers are always right, or that their approach is tactful, but the fact that society has marginalized their opinion as fodder doesn’t make men feel like they can as you say “stand up”.

Individual men, or should I say individuals period cannot “stand up” without grave risk to their personal lives. My daughters have immeasurably benefited from the attention and loving care of their father — as I have from his support. They’ve also benefited from my attention and TLC and my support for their dad. OTOH, life was tough for me, my mom, and siblings when I was growing up, without my Dad living with us.
