Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias is threatening to pull state business from Wells Fargo & Co. unless the bank stops trying to liquidate a company that makes suits for President Barack Obama.
Giannoulias made the ultimatum outside a Hartmarx Corp. factory in Des Plaines Thursday. Chicago-based Hartmarx is the nation’s largest maker of men’s tailored clothing.
The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Jan. 23. It employs about 3,000 workers represented by the Service Employees International Union.
Is there nothing that Obama can’t do?
More here –
Alexi Giannoulias is another key Obama ally and a banking scion. He was elected Illinois State Treasurer in 2006, when Obama was one of the few officeholders backing him. For once, Obama did not back the favored candidate of the machine — that was Paul Mangieri, who had been endorsed by the Illinois Democratic Party, the state party chairman, forty-one state lawmakers, and most statewide officeholders. Instead, Obama endorsed the candidate whose family institution, Broadway Bank, had been loaning money to mafia figures.
You can take the politician out of Chicago, but ….

Well since he ripped off the Chrysler bondholders and gave their property to the UAW, it seems these Clothing Kulaks are also in line for the same treatment.
After all, the SEIU is a MAJOR Obamassiah supporter and they need to get their lolly like the UAW cronies at Chrysler.
Even his suits are marxist… Oh, well.
David Frum had an editorial in the National post on a similar item yesterday except the pressure came right from the WH and was directed at the State of California.
The left would have been white hot with rage had the GWB white house done something similar.
Ah… again we see preference being demanded for Obama’s interests and for socialistic workers.
There’s defintely a pattern here…
similar item yesterday except the pressure came right from the WH and was directed at the State of California.
Gord, I noticed that yesterday and posted on it. Bad move, pissing off Arnold… yes, Arnold is a Leftist RINO, but it’s still foolish to make him mad. At least the unions in question will love Obama for his fascism in their exclusive favor.
And who will the new suit
maker be, if these guys go under ?
Kiton ?
The last line in the article says much: “Union officials say the bank should help since it received a $25 billion federal bailout.”
The evil of the bank bailout is being exposed bit by bit. Not only is this problematic in that it is another sop to the unions, it exemplifies the huge risk of having the government meddle in the affairs of the banks commerce for whatever socialist outcome they desire.
Maybe American wetbacks can jump the boarder into Canada.
Economic migrants are going to start going back where they came from to take advantage of better opportunities.
True irony will be when Mexico puts up a fence on their side to keep the Gringos out.
From the onset, Obama and his gang have been buying adulation with your and your kid’s money.
Why this is not obvious to everyone is beyond my understanding.
Perhaps an admiration and respect for world-class bullshit is at the heart of his success.
Everyone admires a really slick hustler, and they don’t come any slicker than this guy.

“Barack Obama, the Quintessential Liberal Fascist”
“They fear that the development and building of People’s (community) Organizations is the building of a vast power group which may fall prey to a fascistic demagogue who will seize leadership and control and turn an organization into a Frankenstein’s monster against democracy.” – Saul Alinsky responding to his critics, Reveille for Radicals; p. 199
When Saul Alinsky began building his community-organization movement in 1930s Chicago, observers were watching Alinsky with one eye, while with the other eye observing the building of communist and fascist movements in Europe. It wasn’t hard then to see in Alinsky’s programs at home, elements of the people’s revolution from Russia, as well as some of the same “in your face” tactics being employed by Hitler’s Brownshirts.
What Alinsky’s critics saw was the burgeoning of a national movement, the carefully manipulated construction of people’s organizations, which all had two elements in common: (1) a collectivist creed, which denied the existence of personal responsibility; and (2) an amoral dogma, in which all means were justified by an imaginary utopian end.
While most modern Americans remember well Hitler’s Holocaust and the Cold War waged by a solid U.S.S.R., many of these same Americans have swallowed some false history regarding the movements that spawned such widespread, horrendous results.”

A very dumb question, but is there any way Canada could capitalise on what Obama is doing to the US? Once businesses realise the true cost of business, is there any way we could lure them up here? Or would The Big 0 simply direct his threats to Canada rather than to the businesses?
Can’t help but wonder if a protest to not buy their suits would have any effect. But now that I think about it, the biggest buyers of suits are/were employed in the financial services industry. I guess with all of the failures, layoffs and down sizing they have quit buying whichis why the company is in receivership.
Do they also make brown shirts?
LIck:
Over the weekend, I heard predictions that the Canadian dollar could soon be worth $1.20-1.25 US.
That’s because the only way to support the huge debt load (deficit this year will be four times the previous record) is to ‘print money’ through a process called quantitative easing.
Since there are more dollars, each is worth less. Keep up a predicted deficit of at least $1 trilion per year and the US dollar will soon be worthless.
As long as Harper hangs in and does not succumb to the howling of the opposition, Canada’s currency will emerge stronger.
That’s when we, individual investors, can go bargain- hunting.
Canuck:
Brilliant!
SYF,
That may be a bit overdone (I hope so, a CDN buck at 1.25 would kill our economy unless it happened over a decade.)
Our exports (including resources) are normally priced in USD. If a USD is priced cheap, so are your exports.
It should drop however as a deficit (not including unfunded liabilites and harm to business of O’s disasterous policy) of 13% of GDP ins’t sustainable even in the short term.
SYF
That’s assuming people have capitol to invest. Although I agree with your analysis(I’m no expert); IMO the negative consequences far outweigh the benefits in the scenario you project. A $1.25Cdn will put thousands out of work.
There is a basic paradox – the “kinder” and “gentler” parties play the hardest hardball in politics. Somehow, the hardball behavior dilutes the “kinder and gentler” message. I give you our beloved Toilet Nazi Hunter as an example – proud of having the sharpest elbows in the crowd, because, it is important to disable your opponents so your gentler side can see the light of day once power is obtained. Yeah, right. Sure.
The “kinder, gentler” meme is hogwash. The Left proves over and over that it is capable of far more brutality than they would have us know.
What does this have to do with suits? Another manifestation of the same phenomenon: there is a self-deception at work on the Left, that it’s position is kinder, gentler, and therefore morally correct, and therefore, actions justify the means.
The problem is that the actions put a lie to the words. Our “professional” journalists realize this, of course, which is why they work so hard to spin on behalf of the Left.
Amen, Shaken – you said it all !!
Shaken
There is nothing on earth more vicious, malignant and cruel than a leftard who would crush you with the jackboots of power – for your own good.
When you convince yourself that your agenda is beyond reproach you justify all kinds of abuses in its pursuit.
Beware the wrath of the self-righteous demagogues.
Warwick and Indiana:
Hang on tight. Interesting times ahead.
Canada’s manufacturing industry is pretty much on life support now anyway. Chrysler has already said Canadian taxpayers should not expect back the money they were given by Ontario/Canada.
On the plus side, imported manufacturing equipment from the US will keep costs down and vacations to the US will be more affordable.
You can take the politicians out of Chicago but…
… you can’t get rid of them for at least four years.
Maybe getting rid of Chicago is a good idea…
Obama can do anything – GM may leave Detroit for another city.
Now, which city may be the most appropriate ?

I know, My wife asked me: “why don’t we look at purchasing one of those houses that are only $30,000 in the US?”
My response was: “Why do you want to lose $10,000?”
Look- if Obama doesn’t have a good suit to wear, people will start looking at his failures. Effigies will soon follow. He didn’t lie his way to the top only to be stopped by the lack of double breasted blazers.
Osumashi,
Nobody with any taste wears double breasted suits anymore.
The left would have been white hot with rage had the GWB white house done something similar.
As a member of the left let me clarify…The left, as always, is white hot with rage when the POTUS does nothing. GWB was the biggest mega do nothing of any POTUS ever. That’s where the white hot belongs.
It is a testament to Obama that all SDA righties can do is criticize by coming up with such a stupid concept as, is there anything Obama can’t do?
Absolutely incredible! Kate do you secretly work for the left?
If YOU were making suits for Obama, and YOU were the owner of the company that was facing Chapter 11, would you not like to have a politician stand up for you and say, “Look guys, this company needs a break!!” I know I would, and hell, I’m Conservative and I don’t really like Obama! In the real world, that’s how things are done! Ask Brian and Karl!
It’s illuminating to Google the words “Rezko” and “Giannoulias” together.
Also worth noting that there has been much strong-arming of Wells Fargo on the matter of TARP, and the shotgun marriage to Wachovia.
$1.25 is not going to happen. We’ll join the race to the bottom just to stop it. If the US engages quantitative easing, so Canada will too. Near zero interest rates aren’t enough to boost, so we’ll just print more money. The rational will be that if the US does it, it must be the right thing to do.
eljay:
It wasn’t that long ago that the Canadian dollar was at $1.10.
Canada does not need the same level of quantitative easing as does the US, other than for ‘me too’ reasons.
Europe is in even worse shape than the US and they’ll both fall off the cliff together. Be ready to pick up the pieces.
Forgive me, Warwick, as I am hardly a fashion plate. In my defense, however, I point out that Obama is but no one in America needs a president in expensive suits while they themselves lose their jobs.
Sorry Osumashi,
I wasn’t intending to bash you, just the suits.
If you don’t have to wear one of the ruddy things to work every day (as I do) you can hardly be expected to know which ones to buy.
If I didn’t have to wear them, I wouldn’t own another suit as long as I lived…
No need to move out of state, just move it to Hell Michigan, that is.
Hey, I’ve been to Hell, Michigan.
They make his suits, but I sure wish they’d put something in the suit before sending it to him.
The suit sure seems empty when he wears it.
No worries, Warwick.
When I taught, I would wear funny earrings for effect. That’s as far as I went!
Will Mr. Giannoulias be surprised to find himself under a bus? Maybe.
The left, as always, is white hot with rage when the POTUS does nothing. GWB was the biggest mega do nothing of any POTUS ever. That’s where the white hot belongs.

The default Conservative position is, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Contentment and a state of peace and balance in life are a thing worth striving for.
I realize that leftists want change all the time just for the sake of change.
Leftists are all malcontents all the time.
The quest for change without reason has lead the Left in this world to some really bad places.
I think it’s funny that Zero wears double breasted jackets.
That last bullshit politican to do that was Brian Mulroney and look what happened to his party.

“EPA Chief: CO2 Danger Finding May Not ‘Mean Regulation’
The head of the Environmental Protection Agency said Tuesday a finding that greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide are a public-health danger won’t necessarily lead to government regulation of emissions, an apparent about-face for the Obama administration.
The new position follows revelation of a White House document that warns the EPA of the wide-ranging — and potentially economically harmful — consequences of an agency finding last month that proposes declaring greenhouse gases are a danger to the public.
The White House memo also undermines the EPA’s reasoning for the “endangerment” proposal.
EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson has previously said such a decision “will indeed trigger the beginning of regulation of CO2.”
But speaking before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Ms. Jackson said Tuesday that an endangerment finding, “does not mean regulation.”
An EPA spokeswoman wasn’t immediately able to explain the apparent change of policy position.
Pressed by Sen. John Barrasso (R., Wyo.) about the interagency memo sent by the Office of Management and Budget to the EPA before the agency published its proposed endangerment finding, Ms. Jackson said she disagreed with several of the document’s characterizations
She added, however, “We do understand that there are costs to the economy of addressing global warming.””

“Couple’s ‘buy black’ experiment becomes a movement
(AP) — ATLANTA – It’s been two months since 2-year-old Cori pulled the gold stud from her left earlobe, and the piercing is threatening to close as her mother, Maggie Anderson, hunts for a replacement.
It’s not that the earring was all that rare-but finding the right store has become a quest of Quixotic proportions.
Maggie and John Anderson of Chicago vowed four months ago that for one year, they would try to patronize only black-owned businesses. The “Empowerment Experiment” is the reason John had to suffer for hours with a stomach ache and Maggie no longer gets that brand-name lather when she washes her hair. A grocery trip is a 14-mile odyssey.”

head about to explode, overload of total and complete stupidity.
So Hell, MI has kayak rentals. I wonder if it has a nature trail.
The Canadian Dollar only needs to be lower than the US in a STRONG US DOLLAR market with high commodity demand, if the USD falls in relative global value commodity prices will rise relatively, lower dollar = higher commodity pricing not based on demand (inflationary pressure), so a stronger Canadian Dollar will attract capital and lower internal resource costs will lead to manufacturing expansion and not cause as much inflation, we do NOT want to ride that inflation train into the stratosphere.
“Union officials say the bank should help since it received a $25 billion federal bailout.”
Union officials. hahahaha!
Who do you think controls the garment district?
Who do you think controls the garment union?
In New York the Gambino brothers were in control for a long time (that’s right, the offspring of Carlo Gambino.)
It wouldn’t be hard to find out who is running the garment industry in the Windy City. And there would automatically be a mob tax imposed on everything that is made.
The fact that Obama’s radical buddies are in bed with Chicago unions should not come as any surprise.
A while back I mentioned that organized crime in Chicago was very much like organized crime in Canada. In each case only one crime family is dominant, and therefore does not have to complete with other crime families for lucrative union control and political influence.
In Canda, after the press and public scrutiny became acute enough, they just backed up behind several layers of front organizations and clandestinely corrupt individuals. And like Chicago, they still pull all the same strings.
Greg in Dallas, there is no organized crime in Canada. That’s what we have government for.
Just wait a little, your new President will make you a believer.

OK. So far I’ve found out that Michael “Jaws” Giorango is 53 years old and has extensive holdings in Florida. This includes hotels, clubs, stuff like that.
So the question is who does he belong to? Is he a Chicago outfit guy who has permission from Florida Cosa Nostra to do business there, with a share of the profits going to the Florida mob?
Or is he part of the Florida mob who works joint businesses, including ones with Chicago Cosa Nostra?
Is he a connected guy, or is he actually a made member?
Whose crew is he with? This is important, because if we know who his allegiance is to, we know whether his family is Florida or Chicago. We would know who he has to clear his deals with before he cozies up with his confederates in the Chicago banking community.
As he is 53, he probably was inducted into the Chicago outfit during the reign of either Joey “Doves” Aluppa, or Sam Carlisi. (John “No Nose” Difronzo is running things in the Chicago outfit right now.)
Maybe we can flesh out a few of these details.

A couple of years ago, Ayaan Hirsi Ali was having dinner at our house in Holland and we decided to watch a comedy show on TV. I believe the reason was that Wouter Bos, the leader of the Dutch Social Democrats and a colleague of Ayaan’s in parliament, was scheduled to appear on that show.
The program featured stand-up comedians discussing the news, together with the well-known guest. And because Ayaan was an ongoing topic in Holland, they started talking about her. One of the comedians remarked: “Ayaan, she doesn’t have a…”

John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and other GOP leaders would love to hear an answer, but the pollster didn’t have one.
