  1. A bit hard to see at first, but the plane enters the frame from the left at about 3:31:00.
    About 30 seconds later people are already outside standing on the wing. Remarkable.

  3. “Scully’s” the pilot I always pray for when I’m flying. I usually pray for the maintenance crew, too, that they catch every little crack and every little dysfunction as they’re going through their check list.
    Now, I’ll have to pray for the birds — that’s St. Francis of Assisi’s department, so next time I fly, I’ll be sure to engage his help.
    As far as Canada geese go, however, how about an extermination program? Frankly, I see no good reason to have them around. They’re pretty in flight — but lethal too. PETA would disagree, but when you think that over 150 PEOPLE could be dead, or a lot more if the pilot had crashed over Manhattan, what’s a few roast geese?

    After a question on the “environmental impact” of the crash, followed by one asking if pets were aboard, I waited for a reporter to ask the medical status of the goose.

  5. That’s obviously not a real plane, because planes have wings and they break apart when they hit the water. Do you see any wings in that video? And what’s the deal with people standing on water like that? Computer generated, obviously.
    And how could the so-called “rescue” happen so fast? They just happened to have boats standing by ready to collect all these so-called “passengers”? This has all been staged by the Jews and the Bush administration to distract attention from the Gaza war, financial meltdown and the Obama inauguration. Don’t believe any of it.

    An amazing bit of airplane driving, but let’s not forget the flight crew. From the time the 320 stopped to people standing on the wing was about 25 seconds. Less than three minutes after that the first person was being hauled aboard the ferry.
    BZ all around, crew, passengers and ferry staff!!

    My biggest beef about the movie “Speed” was not just that it wasn’t very good, as action movies go, it was that the black ladies on the runaway bus weren’t praying. That’s what they would have been doing — noisily and flamboyantly too.

    It was the skill of the Captain and his co-pilot and cabin crew together with the maintenace crews on the ground and designers and line workers at Airbus that got those 155 people onto the ferrys.

    Clearly the crew deserves much credit. But so do the captains & crew of the boats. They took the initiative without waiting for the government to do something. Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!!!
    As for PETA, watch for them to be screaming if there’s even any hint at an extermination or relocation program. It’ll prove what I’ve long thought: That radical leftists care more about animals than they do about human beings. And even then, they don’t really care about the individual animals; they’re merely a device in their crusade.

  13. It also says something for the strength of the plane. It must be a very well designed plane.
    I remember when the Air Canada flight had to set down in Gimli Manitoba, they said the 767 was the first commercial jet capable of a glide landing. Even though the ground crew screwed up, they had the good fortune of screwing up on the right plane.
    Pets on board? Events like this have a way of putting the idea of pets into proper perspective.

    Where’s Alex Jones to expose this fraud and CGI video , how did someone know it was going to crash and had the video running to catch it.

    I lived near a pristine city park that was trashed by Canadian geese years ago while the city dithered on what to do with them with lots of hysterical acting out from the envirno moonbats. Like seagulls and city pigeons, they are annoying filthy flying rats when they are in the wrong places.
    Via Drudge, one wildlife biologist calls for killing them around the airport in a NY Post article with the usual animals-before-people moonbats responding in the comments.

  19. The miracle of this landing is stunning.
    The fact that the capt. managed to keep the wings PERFECTLY level avoided a disaster. (in most landings it is a rarity to have both wheels or floats touch at exactly the same time) At speeds around140 Knts, one wing tip digging in would have led to a shearing and breakup of the wing assy, leading to a yaw culminating in a cartwheel and fuselage structural compromise.
    It would have broke up on impact.
    BUT
    By luck there were no waves, the engines took the brunt of the impact damage and sheared off,(That’s part of the initial big splash you see in the vid. Imagine two aprox.6ft diameter buckets digging into the water at 140 kts,they’re still looking for the engines) and in so doing absorbed quite a lot of kinetic energy saving the airframe integrity allowing it to float as long as it did.
    If the gear was down (I haven’t heard) It would also have absorbed some of the kinetic energy BUT compromising the sealing of the airframe (making it watertight) due to the ripping apart of thin exposed wheelwell skin at that speed.
    The miracle part really comes into play when one realizes that both engines were taken out probably200 to500ft altitude after takeoff. ( I’m Guessing) leaving the aircraft not only without thrust, but total hydraulic and electrical failure.The Airbus needs these for flight controls. It’s a fly by wire airplane. The fact that the standby power sources kicked in as fast as they did and the capt had ANY control in a flight envelope of less than 3 minutes is astounding.
    This size of aircraft do not generally float. I had read that a minimum fuel load to take it to SC may have kept the weight down and trapped enough air in the wings. I still cant belive seeing at least 100 people (looks like 50 on each wing) Standing right out to the wing tips and its STILL not just floating but LEVEL!
    I’ve been around aviation for a while and this incident is just so humbling in that the odds of this ever being repeated are in my mind zilch.
    a huge BZ for everyone involved including the techs at Tuloouse (sp?) that wouldn’t let a loose rivet or bolt slide past inspection.
    Humbled is the best I can come up with tight now.

  20. OSAMA has a Canada GOOSE TERRORIST training camp just outside Montreal. He’s training them to suicide fly into the path of AMERICAN airliners. Training them to sheet EVERYWHERE in ALL our parks has not brought the desired effects – death through disease brought home on our shoes. So they are now being taught to fly into jet engines and are promised 72 VIRGIN GEESE as their reward when they get to ALLAH-LAND!!

    Hey, not so fast. When you pray for the pilot, you pray for the “right” pilot for that flight. Captain Sullenberger was definitely the right pilot at the right time. Another pilot might not have been able to handle this situation as adroitly.
    Praying in these situations doesn’t in any way negate the superb handling of this near-disaster by the pilot and his crew — and who knows? It might even have enhanced their abilities.

    For the first time that I recall, some passengers applauded on landing in Calgary recently. The flight was as usual for WestJet, nothing out of the ordinary, just the usual great service.
    Why the applause? Were they expecting something other than a successful landing or were they Oprah fans?

    Jet engines of today have an admirable reliability score. A person is more likely to succumb to a slip in the bathtub.

    But obviously Bush trained those geese to try to take out that plane. Now we know how they did the job on Paul Wellstone.
    Nice touch using Canadian geese. Trying to make it look like a foreign job. But that pilot foiled the evil plans of the Bush-Cheney junta trying to stage one last terrorist attack on New York before the end of their reign finally comes to a close this week. This is yet another crime for Obama to investigate ASAP.

    did a lot of flying and there was a case or three were things got a little tense, never prayed nor did I let my mind divert to the foolishness of god belief, tho did have to tell one LOUD praying black lady to STFU going into Pittsburgh, as I was trying to read, and kept doing so even when a possible problem arose.

    You may as well ask whether any Muslims on board were praying for Jesus to come save them, or whether any of the Christian passengers suddenly accepted Allah into their lives. Peoples beliefs don’t change due to danger. They wouldn’t be beliefs if they did.

    Yes, those are the twin towers in the bacground in the video preceeding the crash. Interesting to say the least. If you look closely at the twin towers they are not straight and look slightly crooked. Obviously the twin towers have been added to the video. But who & why – are we to believe a miracle has happened and the world is just as safe as it was b4 the twin towers fell? The subconcious mind picks up things the concious mind misses; hence, the use of subliminal advertising in prints ads, movies etc. it has the same effect on the mind as conversational hypnosis. The mind will fill in what is missing with what we perceive.

  38. Oh, come on folks, is it worth it, people do what they feel comforts them best when faced with impending death whether appealing to a Higher Power or not. Reading all of the eyewitness accounts about this flight was a testimony to our basic humanity. On every level it was flawless.
    342 NYC firemen perished on 9/11 trying to save lives, all understanding that they had placed themselves in serious peril. If you know anything sbout the ethnic make-up of the NYCFD you have to conclude that their faith was part of their heroism. We are at our best when called upon to treat other as we wish to be treated, a very Christian concept. Christianity has made us better people.

Or tell it to the Irish, for that matter – they’ve been fighting each other for over a century, trying to prove who has the better brand of Christianity.
    Christianity has been dragged kicking and screaming into the peaceful and understanding religion that it happens to be (for the most part) today. Most of the gains we’ve made have been in spite of religion, not because of it. Any honest student of history has to acknowledge that, with a few exceptions, Christianity has been a regressive force in human progress. About the only thing the church ever got right was it’s implementation of free education – and even that was done mainly in order to train future clergymen.
    By the way, I really liked the first part of your comment. It’s too bad you had to go and spoil it by implying that superstitious beliefs make people heroic. Those firefighters didn’t die because of their faith – they died because they were good people trying to help their fellow human beings. There were, however, some men who died that day solely because of their faith.
    Nineteen of them, to be precise.

  42. I have nothing against religious people, I just don’t want them flying the plane. Many of the deeply religious people I’ve met tend to put too much faith, and too much responsibility, in a higher power. I want someone who’s willing to take responsibility for all his actions, sitting in the pilot’s seat.
    I used a helicopter for a bush job in northern Alberta about 20 years ago. I noticed the pilot praying over his breakfast on the first day. He turned out to be a liability on a couple of occasions.
    His first mistake was telling me that he might have to leave me in the bush, overnight, if the weather turned bad. I explained to him that it was not in his best interest, and he changed his tune.
    His next screwup was flying under a freezing rain squall. He became glassy eyed, and had to be told, sternly, to go around. He seemed to resign himself to God’s will a little too easily.
    Since then, I’ve made sure to keep a short leash on people who view death as nothing more than a change of scenery.

  43. Yeah dp and several late friends of mine were proudly atheistic in outlook and died piloting their own aircraft. They seemed to think they were invincible. Coincidence? You decide. Personally I think that people are stupid and or get tunnel vision no matter what their religion.

    Why the hell would not believing in an afterlife make you feel invincible? That’s idiotic. If anything, knowing that this life is the only chance we get would tend to make people more cautious.
    I definitely agree that people can be stupid regardless of religion, though. But the fact that there are hundreds of different types of stupidity in the world doesn’t excuse any one particular type of stupidity. It’s like saying “some people believe in ghosts, so it’s ok for me to believe in leprechauns”. As excuses go, that’s pretty sad. The rational choice isn’t to pick one particular bit of nonsense and stick with it – the rational choice is to reject them all.

  46. Bravo to the pilot and crew, medals all round. It reminds me of the snappy evacuation of that French jet that crash-landed at Pearson in 2005. But I’m wondering if the passengers can get their luggage back? Wet clothes can be dried out.
    As for the medical status of the terrorist goose, I suspect it’s not unlike that of the bird that was hit by a Randy Johnson fastball a few years ago.

    I don’t consider myself a total atheist, but I plan to squeeze every drop out of my present form, just in case it’s my only shot.
