Harper’s Address To Canada

Followed by the networks continued waiting… waiting… waiting… for Dion’s taped response…. air time filled with CTV’s Lloyd Robertson, Craig Oliver and “analyst” Peter Donolo spinning on behalf of the missing Liberal leader.
It doesn’t get any better than this.
Update… and still waiting… though there are unconfirmed reports leaking out that a man of the general size and description of Michael Ignatieff was seen running down a street in Ottawa with something clutched in his hand….
7:29 Central… Lloyd Robertson: “Apparently the tape has not shown up yet, may not show up yet…. Goodbye for now”
Update … more unconfirmed reports that Dion is still working at the tape do-overs…
And he’s here! Incoherent (out of focus… wtf?) and …. live?
Webcam?
And it’s over. Marcia McMillan looks stunned…
From the comments – “Check out the book over Dion’s right shoulder. The title is “Hot Air”. No kidding !!”
This will be Youtube gold.
Note – I’m watching on CTV Newsnet, but apparently, the main network didn’t get it on air at all and finally cut back to regular programming. Yowza.
Jack must love that he had to take a back seat and wait as Gille “not mentioned in the coalition” Duceppe was able to respond first.
That whole “Three Stooges” thing is looking less like a metaphor all the time!
Update: The Leader of the Not-Quite-Ready-For-CTV-Primetime-Coalition addresses the nation from his bunker.

  1. I’m not sure why no-one else has commented on this: On CTV Newsnet Robert Fife seemed to have an advance copy of the text of Dion’s lost in-space speech and Fife was delivering bits of it to fill in the void. This whole escapade is becoming farsical and we’ll be watching this for years.
If this weren’t so important it would be Really Funny!
BTW, Jack Layton, for the first time tonight I have seen you for the schister you really are…crocodile tears for the ordinary Canadian. I didn’t believe a word you said, you were disingenious.

  2. The tape of Duceppe should be played over and over. While he sickes me to no end. his comments should ring true with everybody with half a brain.
He has put a gun to the heads of Dion the dolt, and Wacko Jacko, and their lust for power is so great, they just handed over a blank cheque.
Duceppe is the key here. He’s been bribed with our money!

  3. Bob Fife is on Fuffey describing in detail the incompetence of the Liberals in not getting the tapes out in time and the terrible production values. He describes it as embarrassing and says the NDP is mad about it. It makes me happy.

  4. “BTW, Jack Layton, for the first time tonight I have seen you for the schister you really are….”
You’re late to the party, but welcome and thanks for showing up.

  5. Is Harper really going to ask for Prorogue(sp?)? Or is there a better chance he faces the vote Monday, enough Libs/Indpt don’t show up, and the government remains as it is – with the Liberals buried under 6ft of concrete and steel?

  6. Harper’s speech was short and sweet. I think he should have gone on more… They’re replaying a segment of Dion – why doe he have the Polish flag in the background…?

  7. “Global started at Minute 31”
And Kevin Newman apologized for technical troubles in getting the tape on. Nice cover for Dion’s incompetence.
Speaking of Global, their Ottawa guy summed up Harper’s address pretty much as “Harper’s whole case is that he thinks separatists are icky.”

  8. dion: “canadians don’t want another election:” fife: “canadians don’t want a leader who will inflame their passions;” gee, thanks guys

  9. shaken: “canadians don’t want media hacks who tell them what they want or don’t want”

  10. Yeah, Gord There wasn’t anything on the MSM he’s been operation under the flu bug for the last week I believe.

  11. New name for Jack: the Dramoid.
Wonder if he took acting classes with an arts and culure grant?

  12. Had to turn off the main networks…. put on The Michael Coren Show for analysis instead. Levant a guest, NDP Churley as well as (and this is interesting) OCAP rock-throwing Marxist rabble rouser, John Clarke, in studio, dressed in a sweat suit it appears, a la George Costanza.

  13. I recorded the CPAC feed while watching the newsnet feed. Don’t know what the recording looks like yet but if it’s worthy I’ll get it posted tonight…

  14. Global BC Poll:
Do you support a coalition government?
    Yes
    17.37 %
    No
    82.63 %
    Nuff said
and they don’t want an election…..wonder why?

  15. the reason Dunce was late,he was outside in the short yellow school bus listening to the theme song from “barney” I love you ,you love me

  16. Liz, I agree – the media is a huge threat to our democracy. Cannot emphasize that enough.

  17. Everyone should have exercised some patience while waiting for Dion to speak, after all it takes time for Gilles to don the rubber glove, apply the K Y jelly and get ready to move Dions lips. But you’re right, while moving Dions lips and doing the voice over it did look a little out of sinch and hard to understand.

  18. Did anyone else catch Lloyd Robertson’s cute comment that the GG might consult with her hair dresser?

  19. Meanwhile,
Kady O’malley delivered a cheap shot on Harper for…..get this…… simply having his speech taped.
    Rich, thick layers.

  20. Matt, I just checked Facebook. There are some pro-Dion Conservatives but they’re somewhat tongue-in-cheek, intended to mock him … as in, do run [you incompetent fool].

  21. When I saw the picture of the signing of the “Magna Carta’NOT…there were three guys. All of a sudden the networks talk about the two..libs and ndp

  22. Mon Dieu! That had to be the most embarassing stint dainty Dion has ever put forward. No one in English Canada will have a clue what the stupid bastard was trying to say. It’s all over for the socialist/sepratist cabal.

  23. Oh my, most youtube videos better than Dion’s. Now you know why they cannot afford to lose the $1.95 subsidy. It was difficult to concentrate on his words with the bad focus and it was very difrficult to understand because of his poor English.
    Style – F
I would love to grade the substance but I’ll have to wait for the MSM to interpret how wonderful it was for me because all I heard was “blah blah….spend….blah blah…trust me..blah blah…spend….”
    Substance – ?
Maybe he should have gone with Greek columns and fireworks. I mean the coalition already stole audacity and MSM spin tactics.
    Entertainment value – F

  24. CTV’s coverage paraphrased & summarized:
Harper and the conservatives are being mean to Quebec. That’s all… no other story here. All is normal and well otherwise, move along now.

  25. Lavant: “Ignatieff was in his Yorkville condo cooking chicken while the other two [Rae, LeBlanc] were deciding who Canada’s next PM would be”

  26. So now it seems that everyone is “concerned” about how this will make Quebecois feel when the people out west are so hostile to them. I am from the west and i want to know when they become “concerned” about how this is making me feel.

  27. I think that PMSH addressed the Nation with complete honesty and very calmly told us that our democracy was being undermined.
Dion addressed the Nation with the same rhetoric that he used in the election. He still looks likes a weasel stealing chickens.
CBC still fawning over the coalition of the 3 stooges. Absolutely no mention of the blocs play in this coalition.
Is there anyway to get a picture of the book over Dion’s shoulder and blow it up for enhanced freeze frame. Could be very handy or could he use it to blame that evil PMSH for not doing a video check.

  28. SDA readers, I know at some point during the last election campaign that I saw Dion stating that he would never hook up with the separatists. I can’t remember where that was, or what the event was but if anyone else remembers, a YouTube video clip of that would be such a gem.

  29. The book to the right of the Hot Air book was entitled “365 Jours.”
    Priceless.

  30. PMSH
Just give them the keys. I think you have gone above an beyond for this country. You brought us back to international respectability and gave us a stong sense of being proud again. You deserve a lot better then this.
Hold your head hight and as you flip them the keys;look them in the eye and tell them to remember this day.
    We will!!!!

  31. After the PM’s dignified talk to the nation, it’s now 90 minutes and counting at CTV, with Mike Duffy, and not one person who supports the PM has been given an opportunity to speak. (Flaherty on, just now.) And these people say that the PM is provocative and non conciliatory.
I’m more dedicated than ever to defeating the nefarious plans of the Bloc, Liberal, and NDP traitors.

  32. Matt,
Great catch there! “365 Days and Hot Air”
Just imagine if Stephen Harper or Sarah Palin had these books behind them. It’s ALL that the pundits would talk about for days!!!

  33. The three amigo’s could’nt organize a three man race to a two holed sh*t house. Honestly, if this happens, i will have to donate to two parties. The CPC, which i proudly carry a sustaining donor card and a WCC donation. I guess I’ll need a membership too.

  34. Frankly, my dear Dionky, I don’t give a dman for your video.
    Alfonso says, ftttt to you.
    Ciao, Francesco.
    …-
“OTTAWA — Frank Valeriote does not favour a coalition government and instead hopes Prime Minister Stephen Harper can work toward rescuing the Canadian economy.
“I believe in working toward a solution, not working toward a coalition,” Guelph’s Liberal MP said Wednesday.
Valeriote added he does not believe a Liberal-NDP coalition, with support from the Bloc Quebecois, will unseat the Tories.”
“Guelph’s Liberal MP: Focus should be on fixing economy”

  35. All we are saying … is give Stephen or Stéphane or Jack a chance, but not Gilles.

  36. flaggman – Incredible arrogance to say that the separatists can’t be criticized. Oh, didn’t Dion set up a Clarity Act? Was that an action of Quebecophobia?
So, does criticizing the people who voted on OCtober 14, make you…what..electorphobic?
Just think, in this new coalition, no criticism is allowed. We must just accept what they, the Wise Men, are doing.
Bringing back Paul Martin – whom the voters rejected. Dion, whom the voters rejected. Layton, whom the voters rejected. Duceppe – who has nowhere to go except to feed off the Canadian taxpayer. Lizzie May, whom the voters rejected. And these rejects plan to hijack our government and take us hostage, bleed us of our money, for their special interests?
By the way – Layton is sending around messages to get people to support the Coalition. It’s being defined as ..get this…The COALITION FOR CHANGE. Now, I wonder where he got that from?
And, he’s declaring that they have a 62% majority, ignoring that we, the people, didn’t vote for a coalition. Never. And that if this coalition has their way, they won’t allow we citizens to have any vote, any say, in this putsch. Or in its subsequent actions. After all, the Bloc agrees to support whatever they do.

  37. The temerity of the media is this country to soft peddle the separatists.
Do these crustaceans not remember the FLQ bombings? The kidnapping of James Cross? The murder of Pierre LaPorte? All done in the name of Sovereign Quebec?
I curse in your general direction you disgusting toadies …

  38. He should skip the prorogue and call for an election. This parliament is poisoned beyond repair. Let the people decide and after the CPC wins a majority, start working on a law to outlaw coalition governments.

  39. we, the people, didn’t vote for a coalition.
And we the people didn’t vote for Steve Harper.
