Harper’s Address To Canada

Followed by the networks continued waiting… waiting… waiting… for Dion’s taped response…. air time filled with CTV’s Lloyd Robertson, Craig Oliver and “analyst” Peter Donolo spinning on behalf of the missing Liberal leader.
It doesn’t get any better than this.
Update… and still waiting… though there are unconfirmed reports leaking out that a man of the general size and description of Michael Ignatieff was seen running down a street in Ottawa with something clutched in his hand….
7:29 Central… Lloyd Robertson: “Apparently the tape has not shown up yet, may not show up yet…. Goodbye for now”
Update … more unconfirmed reports that Dion is still working at the tape do-overs…
And he’s here! Incoherent (out of focus… wtf?) and …. live?
Webcam?
And it’s over. Marcia McMillan looks stunned…
From the comments – “Check out the book over Dion’s right shoulder. The title is “Hot Air”. No kidding !!”
This will be Youtube gold.
Note – I’m watching on CTV Newsnet, but apparently, the main network didn’t get it on air at all and finally cut back to regular programming. Yowza.
Jack must love that he had to take a back seat and wait as Gille “not mentioned in the coalition” Duceppe was able to respond first.
That whole “Three Stooges” thing is looking less like a metaphor all the time!
Update: The Leader of the Not-Quite-Ready-For-CTV-Primetime-Coalition addresses the nation from his bunker.

  1. CBC started playing the tape of Dion (out of focus and off centre) at minute 29. Global started at Minute 31. CTV had given up and gone back to their regular programming. Around minute 32 or 33 CTV Newsnet picked up the same feed CBC was running in progress. After all that he wasn’t even speaking English. Sad.

  2. Even though CBC did eventually air the tape, it’s likely that legions of viewers turned the TV or changed the channel out of boredom.
CTV never did air it. It will be aired later, but what a major screw-up on Dion’s part. He can’t even get this right; how does anyone expect him to run a country, even for six months.

  3. Which just goes to prove that Dion could’t find his a**hole with two hands and a flashlight

  4. LOL They can’t even put a VIDEO together and they WANT to run the country!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT a joke

  5. Sounded much like the same speech Dion gave during the campaign. This entire display is disgusting. To think it started over the Libs and NDP upset that they will be cut from the public trough. Oh wait….it was in the works a long time ago between the communists and the separatists.

  6. OMG.
Is the LPC that broke that they had to use the web cam on Scott Reid’s laptop???
My kid asked if that’s what analog looks like LOL!!

  7. har system huv guvrmint har hable worked hudder part worlt. helswhere da worlt dey workings togetter to fixed da prublem, why nod Canada?

  8. I did not hear Dion include the Bloc in the coalition. He said “formed a coalition with the NDP”.
Hey he’s kicked the separatist bastards to the curb already. That didn’t take long.

  9. Heh, I support the coalition, but god Dion’s address was so unbelievably bombed. Sheesh, that’ll go far to instilling confidence in his ability to govern. Idiots! lol.

  10. “Sorry I missed seeing a stunned Marcia McMillan….”
You missed the best part IMO

  11. It’s nice to see CTV and CBC continue to be apologists for Dion and Liberals. They wouldn’t even consider doing the same for Harper.
They really want to see the Liberals back in power and will continue to be their cheerleader.
It just reinforces that the Ottawa media is so out of touch from the feelings on the street of average Canadians.

  12. the tape hasn’t “shown up yet;” did they send it c.o.d?
Posted by: rzr at December 3, 2008 7:31 PM

    No. Canada Post.

  13. Dion just made his speech on the french network and it’s been dubbed the most amateurish video ever seen.Seriously,it is more damaging to him than anything else

  14. Nice to see that resident progressive lberia hasn’t yet found the courage to comment. BTW… for lberia and other lefty trolls’ general education, the definition of progressive is:
“self-righteous, egotistical twit living in the belief that his high-minded ideals are the only truth while secretly suppressing the reality that his only ideology is thieving from society’s productive elements in order to finance his own drone-like, parasitical existence”
Remind you of the coalition of the swilling? Of course it does.
Only in Canada could we have a legal, bloodless coup d’état. This country is even too boring to do a putsch in the time-honoured fashion – à la Hugo Chavez… or is that still in the offing?

  15. “Note – I’m watching on CTV Newsnet, but apparently, the main network didn’t get it on air at all and finally cut back to regular programming. Yowza.”

Stephan Dion. Not a leader. Nor ready for TV. Definitely not GG nor sportscaster material.

  16. Dion’s speech tonight should clarify for every Canadian why he is not the Prime Minister and why he should never be the PM of this great country. If Canadians were given the opportunity to see PMSH and Dion in a proper debate during the election, we would probably not be in this sad situation today.

  17. After the performance CBC just put on, I think privatization under a Harper majority is a safe bet.

  18. Is there anyone out there who can disagree with the fact the media are the biggest threat to the stability of this country?
They have no concern for anything beyond their hatred for Conservatives and Harper in particular. The country, the economy or how we look to the world matters not one whit. They’re happy to have a rag-tag pack of idiots with Dion, rejected by the people to become Prime Minister and rejected by his own party as leader. Not one bit of concern about the Separatist potential to extort large sums of money in return for their support.
Harper is being criticized by the usual hacks and spinners for not divulging enough not enough information for them to play games with more likely.
They wanted to hear an early scoop or two from the budget so their friends in the cabal of fools could up them. They also hoped he would tell them his own intentions.
    Poor stupid, pathetic bastards.

  19. Hmm,was the delay on CTV retribution for the Original Do over tapes?
the “Old Hold a grudge Dion plan”

  20. Yesterday the CBC spent plenty of time on backround items, with Bonner doing a piece in which she told the viewer to focus on PMSH body langaue when the opposition chanted that Prentice should be leader. As well, why everyone didn’t stand or stand at the same time… but on the “HOT AIR” book thing, nothing of course. Hmmm. I wonder if that book was behind Harper if they wouldn’t have taken a swipe.

  21. I just sent this to CTV a few minutes ago (while the goon show was still on.):
    _____________
I watched the PM’s speech. I’ve now listened to SIX anti-Harper commentators.
    You have no credibility.
But wait, now, there are some comments about the possible incompetence of Dion for not yet having his tape delivered to CTV.
But, please tell me, where are those of us who are unequivocally AGAINST the coalition?
(I’m watching the intellectual pygmy outside Rideau Hall—spouting sheer puffery.)
WHERE ARE THE OTHER VOICES, CTV?
I’m waiting to see Duffy, for whom I have a great deal of respect.
The clown show I’m watching now is just what normal, common sense Canadians are totally sick and tired of.
You think PMSH disappointed us? No way. He’s way up there in our estimation and the biased, vacuous, now totally contradictory—Craig Oliver’s now mad at the Bloc—CTV operatives have made fools of themselves.
    ____________________
Then, when the female commentator from Quebec had ANOTHER chance to speak, the audio didn’t work. What a fiasco!
It’s now 7:47 and there has still been NOT ONE pro-Harper, anti-Coalition voice on CTV—and I’m listening to that snake, Duceppe, speak in French. This is ALL about Quebec—and the idiotic elites talk about the Conservatives alienating Canadians. What a sham.
Now, I’m listening to Jack Layton, a total moral and intellectual pygmy. He’s upset because PMSH “didn’t listen to me”. Cry me a river, Jack.
PMSH has kept his integrity and told it like it is. BRAVO, sir!

  22. PMSH surprised the networks with his short message. Frankly I was dissappointed…he was too polite.
My guess is that Steffi had a 23 minute mumble all taped and ready, but when his ‘pipple’ saw how short the PM’s message was, Steffi had do the do-over.
CPAC coverage and analysis was not bad.At least the host was less partisan by comparison.
Sooo…we still don’t know what GiGi will do.

  23. Liz,
I agree with you WHOLEHEARTEDLY!!! I always find it ironic when someone in the media cries “a pox on all your houses” to the political parties. What about a pox on MOST of the media in this country. The deeply biased coverage is beyond despicable.
I had commented on my blog a while back that the Conservatives should demand – not ask, but demand – that the CBC have as close to a 50/50 balance of left & right commenters & staff. This actually could happen if there was the political will to do so.

  24. Liz J comments right on.
I have always been aware that our TV networks are the most corrupt in the world.
So one sided they are a joke.
What right have they to confer with their coalition party to suggest ideas –
    Dion, Dusceppe, Layton total losers.
Let’s all sing Oh Canada and hope for the best
    this weekend.

  25. I don’t know how many people reading this know it, but apparently Stephand Harper has been really sick with somme kind of flu for about a week now – really bad late last week but getting better now. As the film showed tonight and his face/complexion in QP showed yesterday, he is clearly not over it yet.
I noticed that no one in the MSM that I am aware of has mentioned it.

  26. Last evening I mentioned I was phoned by Nanos group for survey, my bad.
Strategic Council called…I realise now it was Donolo’s group, and I can see why the questions were very skewed.

  27. Hey Jack!
I want an “economic stimulus package” for every single oilfield drilling, service and support worker in the Bakken field should you attain your goal of returning Saskatchewan back to have not status.
    crickets chirping….

  28. I think Canadians are very thoughtful to give the man the Liberal Party fired, Mr. Dion, 4 months on the job training as PM while they wait for the Liberals to replace him with a man whom will also require many years of on the job training.
I think the Liberals are also very thoughtful to allow the Separatists to control the direction of the government of Canada for the first time in history.
And surely the Liberals should be celebrated for their bravery in allowing the Socialists anywhere near the Treasury.
And all at a time of financial crisis. Patriotism personified. Canadians should be so proud of their Liberals.

  29. Newman made a big issue about Dion’s use of the terms “your” government, parliament, etc. But he didn’t say anything about Harper’s inclusive use of “our” democracy. Also, I wonder why the term “our democracy” was enclosed in quotation marks when it was shown in the tape running below the picture. Quotation marks within a sentence often indicate a sarcastic comment.

  30. Kate, please get the clip up….especially if you can get Marcia in full doe mode….
Sorry I missed it….I just had no desire to watch it, thinking I wasnt going to see anything worthwhile….I was wrong

  31. Regardless, it is the intent of the Three Stooges to get their coalition and push their far left agenda onto this country. Those of the far-left ilk are having wet dreams about all Canadians being turned into vegan socialist serfs.
No matter who gets into power, or even who you voted for, if you are from the West your vote WILL NOT COUNT. It is time for the West to very seriously re-consider its position in Conferation.
Would you rather have an opposing agenda forced upon you by your neighbour or by someone from Toronto who has no clue about what happens beyond the the “Centre-of-the-Universe” city limits?

  32. Jack bin Layton spinning the same crap, 62% didn’t vote for Mr.Harper…62% didn’t vote for a coup either, pull you’re head out of you’re ass Layton. The sanctimonious arrogance is beyond belief, I’ve never witnessed anyone who is so pleased with themseves then that douche bag. Someone should tell Dion that it’s pronounced Stephen Harper not Stever Hopper. The media still refuse to call the coup a Separatist/Liberal/NDP alliance…pathetic.

  33. Citynews Toronto ran an interesting clip from QP in which Dryden walked into one yet again, like he did on the issue of his “sky is the limit” fundraising letter.
After launching an attack-laden question against the government, Polivere began his stinging retort by saying, “Mr. speaker, on this side of the house, we’re still playing for Canadians.”
It was a gem. I really like this Polivere guy. He’s an attack dog. I saw him take apart CBC’s heather Hiscox too.

  34. I have never seen such an incompetent television production. Badly out of focus, poor composition, unintentionally hilarious background, not ready in time for scheduled broadcast… How can anyone take these clowns seriously?

  35. I wonder how many languages Rick McGinnis speaks?
And whether he’s as fluent in them as he is in his native tongue, as he expects Dion to be?
I wonder whether his philistine, xenophobic ridicule of anyone who has a different accent than his own was a prerequisite for his job at the giveaway subway newspaper?

  36. Be still my heart: Fife is hammering Dion on the lateness, the video quality, and the Hot Air book!
    Al Jazeera it is then!
