Update – “Biegun, who spent dozens and dozens of hours briefing Palin on these issues, is happy to defend her, on the record, under his own name.”
And ” [Newsweek] might want to check out Wikipedia before publishing the next batch of Palin smears.”.

1. Personally, I’d like to see Palin appoint herself to the Senate to replace Ted Stevens when his conviction is upheld. If the Democrats and Republican REMFs don’t mind their manners, let them deal with 30 million e-mails from her outraged supporters.

2. Sarah Palin was actually the only true conservative in the race, which is why the bulk of the leftist anger was directed at her. To quote Tom Mountain, a journalist, instead of sporting a NOW button, Sarah wore a NRA one (National Rifle Association. Not only does she believe in gun ownership, she is actually a hunter – horror of horror. She has been known to hunt moose that the metrosexuals only see in National Geographic. Worse yet she skins them, carves them up and eats them, which means she is a meat eater. Her husband does not even have an MD, Ph.D or JD attached to his name and he works with his hands. He is a fisherman and an oil field worker working for those greedy oil tycoons who want yet to drill for oil and disrupt caribou mating habits. Unlike those feminists’ gentle, progressive, modern (submissive) husbands, he probably drinks Budweiser, watches NASCAR, shovels his own driveway and does not know what it is like when your stockbroker or shrink goes away on vacation for a week. Sarah married him after she finished not Wellesley, not Smith, not Vassar, but the University of Idaho. Oh, and she never even took a few years off after university to find her inner self before launching a career as an independent working woman. Furthermore she dove right into marriage and had five kids – one of whom joined the military and she is even proud of the fact that he is on his way to Iraq.
The liberal mantra dictates that because Sarah did not bring her daughter to the Planned Parenthood centre at age 13, the girl got pregnant. Worse yet is that instead of marching her down to the abortion clinic, Sarah encouraged her to have the baby. Not only that but her daughter is actually marrying the young man. Because Sarah does not believe in abortion, she opted not to terminate her own pregnancy, despite knowing that her child would be born with Down Syndrome. She actually regards the baby as a blessing. She belongs to one of those very non-progressive Christian churches that believes in the power of prayer and she even encouraged her constituents to pray for victory in Iraq. Praying for victory in a war makes the liberals go nuts.
Being clearly to the right of McCain, she generated the biggest hate and smear campaign from the Left.

3. That’s all fine, Alain. She’s a great person and an example for families everywhere.
But please explain to me what in any of that makes her qualified or competent to be President of the most power nation in history?
(And no, Obama is not qualified either, is not an answer.)

4. Governor Palin is enormously popular with the conservative elment of the Republican Party. We make up about a third of Republicans, and feel that she is definitely one of us.
She wasn’t being considered for the presidency; she was asked to be the candidate for Vice President. Frankly, it is hard to imagine a better position for a deeper contextual understanding of world affairs than four years as Vice President.
Furthermore, a lot of the stuff leaked by the press has turned out to be untrue. She never went to the door in a bathrobe. The African comment was in the middle of a time crunch situation with dozens of questions and assertions being thrown around without a moment to correct some mis-speaking.
Unless you’re talking about science or something, all you have to do is read ten good books on any subject to become a relative expert.
There is a bright future for her among conservatives. If she wants to parlay this experience (I can’t imagine why she would want to) into a presidential bid in the future, she will certainly get a lot of conservative support.
Lastly, I want to thank a couple of you for putting “Red Tory” into an American context for me. I’ve been posting here for almost as long as the site’s existence, and I see now I had never really understood this term. And you’re damned right — in the Republican Party we have a lot of lousy Red Tories, and we are going to do everything we can to get rid of them.

5. The smears and ugly attacks against Governor Palin are unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. They were outright disgusting. I don’t believe anything coming from the media about her. Unless Sarah Palin says it to my face, it’s nonsense as far as I’m concerned.
But if you question Fool-Mouth Joe Biden or the faux-messiah, you are a racist and various other vulgar epithets. No one can tell me how Obama is a wonderful leader but they can tell me to shut my mouth, implying that the new Dear Leader is above criticism.
Makes me want to back Sarah Palin more.

6. Correction.
Most of the Republican Party are conservatives. There may be 10 or 15% that would fit the Red Tory category. So when I say that Palin has the support of conservatives, she has the support of 90% of the Republican Party.

7. “I have no idea how intelligent she may be, but because of her environment she hasn’t been exposed to a typical liberal arts education, therefore she can’t Latinize and talk much (I would guess) about past civilizations, and European history, cold war politics, etc etc.”
She majored in journalism and went to several liberal arts schools. Also, knowing the countries and NAFTA and that Africa is a continent, not a country, is part of the “liberal arts” education you learn by merely existing.
Whether the allegations against her are true or just an attempt to pin the blame on her, we’ll never know for sure. I went from being impressed with her, to being on the edge with her, to being completely disgusted with her, so I’m inclined to believe there’s some truth to what her former aides are saying.

8. “They are obviously bald face lies but the media is regurgitating them over and over.”-Doug
So where is your proof that they are obvious “bald face lies” Doug?”
So you are trying to convince me that Palin, the governor of a state, a former city mayor, a person who gradualted from University with a journalism degee did’nt know that Africa was a continent and didn’t know who makes up NAFTA.
GIVE ME A BREAK!!
I equate her stature somewhat to our premier in B.C. Gordon Campbell. Both BC and Alaska are major contributors of natural resources to both the continental USA and other parts of the world. And you are trying to convince me that the head of a state supplying those natural resources which involves the NAfTA agreement didn’t know the participants in that aggeement.
Give your head a shake.
And comments/smears such as the one where she apparently opened to door to her hotel room while wearing a bathrobe are positively hillarious.
I watched a democratic comentator on Fox last night who was with Palin on part or her campaign and she said the insinuation that she was a shop-a-holic- is absurd. She said simply there wasn’t time to do ANYTHING but campaign.
If you really gives this stuff some thought it soon becomes obvious a lot of it defies logic.
Horny toad

9. And my God, for a group of people that advocate self-responsibility, you sure seem to be able to blame McCain’s loss on any number of external factors, many resembling conspiracies. Bootstraps, people, boostraps.
I hope the terrible campaign McCain ran and the terrible selection of Palin will jolt the Republican party back to Goldwater, Nixon, Ford, etc. If McCain had campaigned on the economy, he might’ve had a leg to stand on (another reason why Palin sucked: she offered no advantage to the campaign in this regard. Romney would’ve been much, much better).
Let’s stop making excuses for these people like they’re spoiled children and start holding them accountable. Palin’s a hockey mom, but she’s not a hockey player; you don’t have to blindly root for her like you would your favourite sports team.

10. It continues to amaze me how ‘conservatives’ eat their own,one would think dealing with the media spin would be enough to circle the wagons.
Palin was a lightening rod for true conservatives in this election and without her “the one” may have had that hoped for landslide. I would support her in a heartbeat.

11. I remember years ago when Trivial Pursuit was just introduced and we were playing it with my sister-inlaw, a college educated Californian. We could not believe how little world knowledge she had and we even knew far more American history than she did! She admitted they were not taught what we in Canada considered the basics. She completed her BA at York and we let her stay.
Of course today we are seeing the same slippage of education here now. Remember the Dion interview on CTV at all or his question and answer session with high school kids with basic questions he couldn’t answer or Mercer asking business people in Chicago during the summer about Canadians living in igloos just across the lake?
How about the hatred from Chris Matthews on CNN when Palin was announced as the VP selection. The MSM despised her as a threat to the “ONE”. We always are complaining how the MSM butchers Harper.
She may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but we don’t know how she was coached and urged to change her personality for the Couric interview. She seemed great on the VP debates.
I would be amazed if these stories were true about her buying all these clothes and being so difficult to deal with. Seems in sharp contrast to what people who know her and deal daily with her. She lives in a normal house, why would she want all this crap.
I will hold my opinion of her until she or unbiased sources confirm what has been said about her is true or not just speculation.
So many women I have met seemed to dislike Palin and resented her for undefined reasons, just a feeling they had, scary.

12. Shameful the way the Rhino’s are treating her, as well as the closet Liberals. Another guy who will not take the blame for his own sins. Kathleen Parker with Peggy Noonan should be looking for new work or a new audience . There true blue colors came out of hiding. Involuntarily in one case. Unfortunately this is what we have come to expect from Journalists. Sarah Palin. Frankly she was the only one who had the guts to go the distance with verve, while the old man tottered.

13. McCain adviser Nicole Wallace defended Palin on NBC’s “Today Show” Friday morning, saying the Alaska governor “did nothing wrong.”
“She is, perhaps, the most un-diva politician I’ve ever seen,” she said. “The only thing I’ve ever seen her ask for is a diet soda.”

14. GAFFs
obama made them by the truck load
biden made them by the super tanker full
mcCain also made them
so now why are WE discussing palin’s gaffs
I can assure you people that americans ( and many canadians ) now sfa about most things outside their daily existance
and then again, bush was pillared for his gaffs, which were simply expressions of his dyslexia
so those who (and I seen much of this)denigrated bush for his gaffs only proved their own stupidity, and their own ignorance, and ignorance is much of the discussion in here today
so, let me point out that most in here (including you teddy) would fare no better , to much worst than sarah did under the circumstances
now I’ll just wait and see what sarah is really about, as I’v not seen enough of her or about her to make any determination

15. Hey Gym: that’s exactly my point. I actually assume she is not nearly as foolish as she appears, but at the same time I’ve seen nothing to rule that out, let alone to take the view that she is this super-intelligent powerhouse unleashed who will be a great president as so many hardcore conservatives claim. There is just simply no evidence of it.
What we do have is polling evidence that McCain’s numbers took a dive at the same time as her interviews came out and Americans started to hear her more. She certainly didn’t lose the election for McCain but she clearly did not help either.

16. Jemma 54,
“…Obamma claims his grandmother, born in 1923, lived through two World Wars and the Great Depression! ”
Yeah, I remember, she and Joe Biden both watched FDR on the telly.

17. Gym & Ted:
Governor plain is the Governor of Alaska.
Her approval rating by those who know her is over 80% (At least it was when she entered the race)
She has many achievements which are all on the record.
Her achievements are easily found if one takes the time to look.
This lady is no dummy.
Take it to the bank.

18. Sarah Palin–the has been who never was!! John McCain–the man who blew it for the Repubes! Is that really all that hard to fathom! It’s really that simple! In the end, someone had to win! Better luck next time!

19. I especially like seeing all those home snapshots of her hauling in fish in her designer duds. /sarc off
The media will believe anything and everything if it discredits her or her intelligence. Frankly, she made Biden look like a buffoon in their debate, and post debate analysis shows Biden made factual error after error i.e France and the U.S. “kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon” This from the guy who’s expertise is foreign policy?
The truth is that she is a real conservative with a real record. In 4 more years she will have 6 years of Governor executive experience under her belt in energy rich Alaska, and a much better insight into how to play the game. She is a threat and some don’t like it. McCain’s campaign was a disaster and now these incompetents are looking for a scapegoat. Hannity and Colmes and Greta all had people – Rick David being one- who debunked these allegations. Sarah will be on Greta on Monday night if anyone is interested.

20.
I believe him when he says that the Republican party backroom boys are complete scumbags. The treatment of Sarah Palin tends to confirm his view.
Yes that’s about right! McCain had anarchy among his Aids. It should be noted that Carly Fioina (former female CEO of HP) was the financial twit… It would seem reasonable to assume she is up to her usual tricks. McCain can’t manage shit… good he lost..
TED,
Smirking Katie Couric was/is overrated. She keep her job at NBC with special favors to special PLL. She did learn to read the teleprompter & listen to the IFB (in ear). She released selective snippets meant to discredit Sarah Palin . Katie’s Production crew would have found/created embarrassing snippets regardless of what Sarah said, Network Production research does nothing by chance (obama’s crew, most likely, was in Katie’s ear.. IFB) Katie will be gone from CBS.. who would trust her?
BTW: Who the Hell thinks they Know who is qualified for any job? It is what it is.

21. The fascinating thing will be to watch what happens with the lower 48 going broke, and watching state taxes continue to go higher and higher, while Alaskans keep getting money back (I assume) from the state.
Also, the phone will ring from the White House to the Alaskan governor, asking how’s that whole pipeline thing going . . . . . . . . . . .

22. When Palin runs for President in 2012:
McCain Aide: Knock, Knock
Palin: Who’s there?
McCain Aide: Disloyal muck-spreading McCain aide
Palin: Disloyal muck-spreading McCain aide WHO?!
They’ve just blown their future employment prospects… with the Republicans, at least…

23. I was talking to one of my daughter’s friends this weekend, and she explained to me how her professor taught her that Palin charged for rape kits in Wasilla.
Which, if it is true, it is pretty strange that not one person so charged has ever been identified, nor has any record of such a charge been found. Though it did happen elsewhere in Alaska.
Also, Alaska passed a law banning the practice, which USA Today said was aimed at Wasilla, yet Wasilla was never once mentioned in the debate for the bill.

But what are a few lies when you are trying to get a Democrat elected?
