Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite Radio. Tonight, for your delectation and pursuant to our Tuesday night vintage music show, here are Adrian Rollini and His Orchestra performing A Hundred Years From Today (1934, 3:08).
| Today’s ΣVe/n: 6.74 » 5.42 (-13.6 seat Minority) | ||||
| Angus: 9.75 |
Decima: 3.99 » 2.85 |
EKOS: 6.00 » 4.13 |
Ipsos: 8.40 |
Nanos: 3.15 » 1.95 |
Update: I’ve been thinking about the above table, and I can’t legitimately say that I don’t think that last Saturday’s Angus and Ipsos polls now look like outliers. If we only count the three dailies, ΣVe/n=2.98, giving a minority of about 120 seats, four less than last time.
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.

Taliban Jack Layton is now “No-Show” Layton; in his own riding.
Jack has been booooood.
Jack’s stand-in was kicked out of the meeting.
Will Jack’s you-know-what explode, again?
“his absence sparked a chorus of boos from a suddenly hostile crowd and sent his representative out the door.”
He’s not under the table, either.

We await with anxiety Taliban’s Apology Act.

“Jack Layton A No-Show At Toronto-Danforth Candidates’ Debate”
“Jack Layton may be the federal NDP boss, but he’s also the incumbent MP in the Toronto-Danforth riding.
Still, you wouldn’t have known as much Tuesday night, when the New Democrat leader was a no-show during a candidates’ debate at Riverdale Collegiate Institute.
The event was reportedly organized around Mr. Layton’s schedule, and his absence sparked a chorus of boos from a suddenly hostile crowd and sent his representative out the door.”

Edward T. Oakes, S.J., The Forgotten Pogrom
On August 23 of this year, armed men stormed a Hindu school in the Kandhamal district in Orissa, a remote and destitute state in eastern India, and killed the Hindu leader Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of his followers… Although the police suspected Maoist rebels were responsible (a letter was left behind by a local Maoist group claiming responsibility), local Hindus blamed Christians and in retaliation five hundred houses were burned…
And because the indignities suffered by the untouchables still continue, and are nearly required as an aspect of Hindu eschatology, Christians have proved successful in winning converts from the lower castes while simultaneously and for that reason exposing themselves to persecution…
Ural, Nanos (formerly SES) were just the “most accurate.” but all parties were within their margins of error, and more or less agreed.
Anyway, the vote split is different, with Grits likely at least 4-5% (Nanos latest has Grits losing 2% to NDP) lower than now. BTW, when Tories drop 1%, they’re “bleeding.”
Not really great news, but demonstrates Liberals, barring another “scandal” (be sure Grits have one or two more up Rae’s sleeve), cannot form government, with out without NDP (or we’re screwed folks).
I see Dion is spitballing idea of increasing deposit guarantee levels. Well, yes of course, deposit security holders are getting creamed right now, right? Not. That’s economic ignorance.
This is what Mr Harper should do. Ask for air time over weekend, for PM address, to deal with market downturn. He could explain our situation, contrasted with US and others, and review the options and actions taken thus far. He could go out of his way to reassure Canadians and explain, without referencing other party’s statements, why this is the wrong time for costly interventionist strategies.
Leave it at that, explain he, and the Finance Department (who, according to Mansbridge were accused by opposition of cooking the books), have been analyzing the situation for months, so don’t listen to anyone formulating solutions on the fly.
The opposition will have a cow; let them. In fact invite them.
Harper could ask that federal leaders, the ones who have any chance of being PM or Dep PM in minority parliament, be invited to comment and participate. The three of them, no moderator, just a camera; and let’s discuss the options.
That would be priceless, and it won’t happen either. Too bad, Canadians need a rational debate amongst our leaders. We won’t get that now, or in the next minority parliament.
Were fighting back
the PM just gave another bang-on speech & another On the Nail point blank Q&A session in Victoria.
He reinforced that he is Not screaming the sky is falling much to the displeasure Of DION & LAYTON.
He has said that They are the ones that are out of touch, He has said that he has been talking about the Economy now for over a year, lets Hope the msms will report the Truth & facts.

Astound
As*tound”\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Astounded, [Obs.] Astound; p. pr. & vb. n. Astounding.] [See Astound, a.]
1. To stun; to stupefy
“In the book, Dr. Weaver argues that if we are to stabilize atmospheric levels of carbon at a level that will not result in climate going haywire, we must begin massive reductions in greenhouse gas emissions now with a goal of totally eliminating our output of them. If we don’t, 80 per cent of all species could become extinct.”
“That’s an astounding prediction,….”

I’d like to see that clip of Mary Walsh kissing Harper as an ad:
Play clip( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyG4iJPO7e8&NR=1) judiciously edited.
Tagline:
Women are allowed to change their mind.
Followed by Dion (pick a flip flop). Men too.
From Dion’s last speech in Toronto, at the Empire Club:
“A fairer, greener Canada,” is what we need, Dion says. I would add a “less bankrupter Canada,” too.
This walking embarrassment cannot be permitted to represent us on the world stage. Furthermore, he should not be allowed any attempt to publicly mangle English any further. In his hands, the language is on life support.
Canada is not bankrupt. Dion is a liar in any language.
Enough is enough.
“A vote for Harper is a vote from the head.”
For me and, I suspect, most of you on this board, the vote for Harper involves head and heart being perfectly aligned.
I recently heard a clip from Dion on the radio — something to the effect of “Harper doesn’t care about Canadians” — How embarassing. Who would be persuaded by this kind of tripe?
Dion’s on with Peter Mansbridge right now.
Although it’s difficult to translate what’s left of the English language after he’s brutalized it, he claims that he is not running negative ads.
Just watched an hour of Dion with Mansbridge. By the end Mansbridge was clearly frustrated with Dion’s refusal or inability to answer questions. I highly reccommend that any undecided voter(or liberal) watch this. His take on the troops pulling out of afghanistan was totally incomprehensible,a 3 minute cluster of unintelligible phrases that may have been connected but I doubt it.It could be up as an hour long conservative commercial,it was so bad.Dion is not a leader and after watching this I am glad he is not a breeder also.
Here is Rusty’s comment on Angry’s blog:
“Dion is claiming that the Liberals know how to slay a deficit.
Yeah! Let’s see how.
PSAC Pension Fund… $34 Billion… gone to the deficit in Paul Martin’s time.
CFSA …. $16.5 Billion …. gone to the deficit in Paul Martin’s time(Bill C-78(1999)
Raise CF member’s pension contribution by 0.5% to rebuild the now(1999) empty CFSA.

Is there any doubt that the CBC is left biased?
Here is the bias: “a muted honour”.
CBC has kicked Canadians in the groin/shat on all Canadians, with these words.
CBC is a treacherous haven of left-liberals/socialists.
The CBC must die.
Down with the CBC.

“Canada to lead G7 in GDP growth in ’09: IMF
Canada will lead the other G7 countries in economic growth in 2009, a muted honour considering that the global economy should slow markedly, according to a new IMF study released Wednesday.
The International Monetary Fund said this country should see economic growth in the range of 1.2 per cent next year, less than half of what Canda experienced in 2007, but the best performance among Japan, the United States, Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom.”
