    Western Canada separates from Canada.
    I’ve been reading some blogs and separatism has come up very often. As it is Western Canada can make it on its own particularly if the GST(2) [Greenhouse Sales Tax] is imposed – this would fan the flames of separatism.
    Even if DeYawn had a minority, wouldn’t that give him the opportunity to stay in power?
    The difference between Quebec and Western Canada is that Alberta and Saskatchewan – with their oil – and BC do not have to worry about Billions leaving their Prov. going to the Middle East [Ontario and Quebec]. One positive thing would be the elimination of the Canadian Wheat Board – which the LIEberals under DeYawn punish Western Canadian farmers for selling their own grain and not voting for them.
    Remaining Canada can get their oil from the East Coast – what’s left of it after the GST(2) is applied – which will make them a “have not” Prov. again – SAD.
    In order for reduction in oil production perhaps Alberta and Saskatchewan could cut off the oil and gas to the pollution capital – Toronto [they have smog days while the rest of Canada has no such problem].
    In a way it would be good if DeYawn and the LIEberals win – then finally Ontario and Quebec will get the government they deserve …. And then cry that they gave up the opportunity to vote somebody in that could see us through the hard times ahead [if LIEberals follow the Green Shift Tax and all their spending promises].

It’s unfortunate that western provincial leaders haven’t brought up the real specter of a Dion government ripping Canada apart when the west rejects his green shaft and separates.

  16. Well I think the best thing you can do if the crisis actually looms is to use the carbon tax to raise the price of gas to 3-4 bucks a litre, then ship the money to China via kyoto.
    Because if Saskatchewan gets as warm as Montana everyone will die. It’s true, ask the CBC.

    If we have another Liberal government this country will splinter – our economy will tank and, think about it, we would have given the keys to the federal purse once again to a party that is millions and millions in debt!!!!
    Are there that many absolutely feeble minded voters in this country that keep falling for arm waving and slogans and yet another big promises that never have to be kept Red Book.
    I am so dismayed- and the enablers to the ultimate destruction of our country is the Liberal media who want their Liberal perks, parties, yummy leaks, senatorships and under the table goodies back.

  20. Don’t worry, when Canadians get a glimpse of the universal reign of peace and love under the benevolent guidance of That One to our south, they will rise as one and demand admission to the United States; why, the Toronto Star will lead the chorus.
    Dion may be a Senator from Quebec, perhaps, or the ambassador to Greenland to take advantage of his extensive knowledge of the north.

  21. Belisarius, there will be no need for coalition government, unless Layton demands it. A coalition government is more than just one party supporting another, it means NDP cabinet ministers and Jack Layton as deputy PM.
    Unless LPC ahead of CPC in popular vote, Harper minority will result. Do the math – 308 seats, if at least 40 to Bloc (likely), that leaves 268. If CPC reduced to 113 seats or less, that gives NDP/Libs enough seats to seize power without another election. They simply defeat government on confidence motion and tell GG they can govern, and she will have to agee – call it the Rae gambit.
    That seizure of power, notwithstanding it will be quite legal with precedent, will enrage West, particularly Alberta, who have served as Lib and Dipper whipping boy during this election.
    Separation will become a powerful rather than fringe force, and be part of mainstream of BC, Alta, and possibly Sask and MB.
    Of this there is no doubt. So, shortsighted voters who ignore the interventionist impulses of Dion and Layton, and vote for them while expecting Harper minority win, will wake up on 15 October to a result they did not intend, and the repercussions will echo across Canada for years.

    I’m PO’d as much as the next person how Dion and Layton use the economic turmoil to feed on people’s fear.

  27. If the Liberals win, there will be no Canada within 10 years. A little bit of history for the East. BC, Alberta & Saskatchewan have all signed the same treaty for workers as well as institutions. Unthinkable even 5 years ago. Alberta has its own Ambassador to America. He speaks for the West now not the federal one. All these provinces cabinets now work together. Our educational facilities are almost integrated. Small seeds to be sure, but as Jesus said of the mustard seed. Its one of the smallest but when it grows it becomes large. If the West is attacked economically that will be the end of this polity as it stands. Canada will be back to Lower & Upper Canada (Ontario plus Quebec) as the be all, & end of the REAL Canada.
    If Central Canada becomes Cuba north we will go. A warning as well, do you really think the US will allow a Hugo Chavez run government here allied to Russia or other increasingly socialist states? Socialist enclaves’ that are vulnerable to Islamist terror with its inevitable destabilization. Including low standards of living because of collectivization. That has NEVER worked well even voluntarily. Socialism has killed mega millions & laid waste to many Nations. Yet the faithful believers of mankind creating Utopia over the bodies of others, still walk this path of death.

  29. I agree that western independence would be a guaranteed outcome of a Liberal-NDP win in this election. I lived in Ontario for almost forty years before moving to B.C. in 1995, so I’ve seen the question from both sides. I know there is some disdain for western Canada among eastern elites, I wouldn’t say among the ordinary people so much, let’s face it, most Canadian families are spread out across the land. But what the eastern elites may not realize is this — western Canada is not like Quebec, one foot in and one foot out. Western Canada wants to be in, or on its own. There would be less hesitation or second-guessing. This is a resource-rich region and it could easily stand on its own as a prosperous democracy. How about Ontario and what’s left?
    Oh well, Toronto will still be in charge, it will just be in charge of a smaller country. Eventually it might just become a city state. Then even Toronto will want to secede from itself, I presume.

I have spent the past day and a half reading hundreds and more likely thousands of comments from Canadians regarding the financial crisis on different websites both left and right including MSM boards. To say that the experience has left me flabbergasted and exhausted, not to mention wanting to jump off a skyscraper and slit my throat on the way down, would be an understatement.
    It is moments like this when I question whether my wife and I made the right decision to invest our life savings into our own business. I could have had a govt. job, decent wage, health benefits, 4 weeks holidays and no real threat of job contraction. Instead I’m left to flap in the wind at the discretion of whichever political master decides my chain needs a pulling.
    Thankfully though, I don’t suffer from the sense of entitlement most of my countrymen and women seem to be inflicted with lately. This is not the time to circle the wagons and begin talking about separation. It is time to start commenting back, calling radio stations, blogging etc and engage our fellow Canadians praising the CPC plan as prudent and responsible. Otherwise, we’re friggin hooped.

A tax on carbon, a carbon tax,a tax on air, a tax on something not scientificaly proven,a tax, a new tax, a NEW TAX.We are not eliminating any taxes, a New Tax! Brand spanking new. Think of it we all get to pay more taxes. Nobody is saying we are going to eliminate any taxes, just a NEW TAX.We all need and want a NEW TAX. I for one hate taxes, and we need a new one? We already have too many taxes, yet some people think we need another one, a NEW TAX. What the h#LL do we need a NEW TAX for but to keep the people we elect in the money? Elected people who are supposed to look after our interests,give us a whole new concept of Taxes? I think not! The only way I could accept a NEW TAX, (keep in mind this is a whole new territory for taxing),is if all other taxes are eliminated and I mean all of them.No income tax,no gst, no pst,no payroll taxes, no corperate taxes, no estate taxes,no education tax,no gas tax. As far as i’m concerned he’s losing ground in polls in much the same way John McCann is. Talking with reason and sense doesn’t seem to resonate with voters. Tell us that Stephie’s plan sucks ! laugh right out loud and say that his plan to create yet another big huge beaurocratic mess that this green shaft is, will be like all the other hugely expensive crazy things they have tried over the last 20 years. Bring up some examples, people forget easy, heck i do.     You left out another distinct possibility:
    – Dion will merge the Green Shift policy with the Long Gun Registry to provide Canadians with the Long Green Shaft. The obvious success of this move will prompt Rae to depart the Federal scene to run against McGuinty in the next Ontario provincial election. Ignatieff will depart for Boston on one of Martin’s steamships. Chretian will lose his golf balls and launch an RCMP investigation. Martin will report one of his ships as missing and apply for federal assistance.
    Isn’t Canadian politics fun? 🙂
