28 Replies to “Obama’s Energy Plan”

  1. What the hell happened to the Democrat party that they would field this empty suit as their presidential candidate? Gad, he’s worse than Mondale!

  2. Many voters will be reminded of one of lowest moments in the Carter administration (and that’s saying something) when JC counselled Americans to fight the energy crisis by turning down their thermostats and wearing a sweater. This passivist attitude rubs most Americans the wrong way.
And now that Barack Obama has done a complete volte face on drilling he looks like a complete panderer.
It will be interesting to see if his crowds start decrease in size and enthusiasm from here on – the dreamers must be having nightmares right about now as for the first time in their lives they have to explain the compromises that their leader, and thus they themselves, have made on almost a daily basis. It must be hell for these idealists.

  3. Now, I know most politicians can make the odd flippant remark, even when their advisors are doing their utmost to script things.
However, this isn’t just flippant, it’s downright stupid and so easily proveable to be stupid.
Hmmm, let me see, we could save about 100 million barrels of oil annually (with proper tire inflation). But, we estimate at least 18 billion barrels in just the resticted offshore areas alone.
Yah, blowing up your tires will only make those two number equal if you are stupid enough to blow with your mouth!!
Also, just to be clear for the trolls, no I am not saying that we shouldn’t blow tires up properly, I am saying that Obama is truly an idiot!

  4. Inflating your tiresis perfectly in sync with this Presidential candidate. He’s full of hot air!

  5. The audience’s reaction was interesting… a few nervous twitters, mostly silence. His relationship with the public is still evolving.

  6. It’s not hard to see what an idiot this guy is whenever he starts talking without a script.

  7. His head seems to be getting bigger and bigger, I wonder if he knows what a tire is? That little thingey is to deflate your bladder mate.

  8. One of the most disconcerting things about this whole situation is: Obama is actually popular. If we knew that his support were primarily based on some anti-Bush or anti-McCain thinking, then we might be able to understand that. Yet his supporters seem to genuinely think that he will make a good POTUS.
Contrast that with the McCain support. The Republicans did not produce a strong bench this year and whoever won the Republican ticket would not have been a strong candidate. Even now, the support for McCain is only there because the Democrats have not fielded a serious candidate for the race. There is only one serious candidate in this race – and even he is not a particularly good candidate.
At this point in the race, I am not yet too concerned. The electorate is still on summer vacation and will wait until Sept-Oct to familiarize themselves with the issues. To the degree that they will investigate Obama’s policies is an uncertainty, but they will examine more than they have up to this point. Will it be enough?
When Carter left office, I thought that it would not be in my lifetime that the Americans would vote for such a poor President again. Now it appears that they are not content to equal the mess of the 70’s; they seem prepared to exceed it. If the game were not so serious, I think one would be tempted to charge admission prices for this comedy.

  9. Last nights tracking poll now puts Obama and McCain at 44% each. (Polls this early, are, as Dief once said “for dogs”). This is a decline for Obama since his return from Europe of 6%.
The Democrats have an energy bind (re off shore drilling) their repeated mantra of 86 million acres of available lease land and tapping the Strategic Reserve is not selling. Congress approvals at 14% the lowest in history.

  10. we canadians should know that the masses will vote for socialism. they think that they can get something for nothing. it’s been that way all my life and i see it getting worse. the big o is making all the old familiar socialist noises and the people are so poorly informed they will just eat that shit up. the u.s. has about 50 trillion in unfunded social security liabilities i don’t know how obama thinks he can continue to expand the state.

  11. Amen, Brent. Nonetheless, even if the Dims had fielded a decent candidate, this kid don’t vote Dim.

  12. Ok, it is pretty weak for a Presidential canidate, but, that tire inflation thing does work. I have a 2006 Hemi pick up (that certifies my blue collar statis and drives the GW freaks nuts) which gets about 20 mpg on the highway at a 120 kmp. Most of the small pick up owners I know only get about 22 mpg.

  13. Trent
I would love to get 20 mpg out of my RED 4×4:-)))
inflate tires, change oil regularly, and new air filter every second or third oil change, all help gas mileage. Just have to wonder what garage Hussein is campaigning to run?????

  14. A large chunk of Obama’s popularity comes from unproven voting blocks.
Will the blacks and the youth actually make it to the polls? I have confidence that the black vote will turn out, but I would rather have my eggs in a basket woven by seniors than depending on gen ‘y’ to tip the scales.
McCain will win the election by a larger popular vote margin than GWB in the last election.

  15. I get very improved mileage from slowing down on the highway and not accelerating or decelerating as quickly. Never the less, even if everyone buys into all of these gas saving tactics, it will not put a dent in the total demand.

  16. GAWD, I hate to be on his side, however slightly over inflating your tires can increase your mileage…..SLIGHTLY. While it’s not bad advice, it isn’t an energy policy. BUT….on the other hand, it’s no carbon tax either. If you choose to try this, no more than 10% over the recommended pressure. More than that takes too much tread off of the road and prematurely wears the center of the tire.

  17. Obama has absolutely no experience in anything except flip-flopping. If elected, he then will become the greenest President in US history. (We only hope the country can recover.)
Aside from inflating your tires you can also eat locally and save even more gas unless of course local produce includes baked beans! Maybe alien abductions, crop circles and animal mutilations are only the UFO version of eating locally!

  18. I except a lot of the base check their tires. Hell, they rotate their own tires and change the brake pads. Gasping “Checkin’ your tire pressure? What a goofball!!” makes someone look like a moron, but it ain’t Obama.

  19. Hoping to put 150 million hybrids on the road in 6 years..well there is the advantage of having gm and other companies on hard times, but..

  20. I assume that just after that clip ends the crowd jumps to their feet and gives Barack a standing-O!!
Funny though, other then Obama talking I could swear I heard crickets chirping in the background……..cherrupp…..inflate tires…..cherrup….

  21. I’ve miled out 13 pickup trucks in the last 30 years, for a total of well over 2 million Km. I’ve used spread sheets to track different brands, engine sizes, engine types, etc. You’d be amazed at how little difference there is between all them. You have to use the right vehicle for the task at hand.
Tire inflation only comes into play if they’re seriously underinflated. More is not better. Tire size is a significant factor. Speed is a factor, but most vehicles are tuned to work best at today’s average speed of around 110. Slowing to 100 will not increase your efficiency. Speeding up to over 120 will burn more fuel. The worst drag on fuel is an obstruction such as an ATV sticking up above the roof line. Lift kits on 4x4s is a real killer. And please give up on thinking that leaving your tailgate open saves fuel. It’s a myth, and you’re spilling crap on the highway.

  22. Word is that Liberal strategists told Dion to take time off from his hectic cross-Canada Green Shift tour and take an extended vacation in the sun.
The hope is that Dion will acquire a deep deep tan … so that he can be marketed as Canada’s ‘Obama’.
Yo’ Deyon .. kick shit .. dem Cons need pain … yo’ da man .. wid all da fame .. yo’ git it done .. on da run .. to da top … non-stop …!!!!

  23. The Republicans need to start connecting Obambi with that useless terrorist lovin Jimmy Carter. Run some ads on the dismal Carter years and his pathetic remedies for the oil crises back them.
    Obambi = Carter
That will wake up a lot of folks who have been around for a while. But for the dudes and slackers – I can’t see any hope of waking them from their orgasmic dreams of Obambi and singing Kumbayah around the campfire.

  24. To be clear – OMama did NOT invent the concept of proper tire inflation to improve mileage. That has been around for quite a while and really only applies to the case of serious under-inflation.
So please, stop referring to whether or not OSama has a good idea here as it is NOT his idea!!
The point is the OTama stated that by doing this
we could save as much oil as could be produced by offshore drilling. That is blatantly false and goes to show just how out of it ‘O’ really is.

  25. Er… but he’s right. According to car manufacturers, inflating your tires properly and keeping your car tuned up can increase efficiency by nearly 3%. This is more than the anticipated impact of off-shore drilling, which is expected to contribute about 1% of the total oil required. And really… if you actually read his speech you’ll see that suggested something considerably more complex than just inflating tires.
The drilling option is nothing more than another attempt to fool the American people into increasing profits for people who couldn’t give a damn about the American way of life, freedom, or energy security.
You want to talk about lack of seriousness? This tire gauge stunt from the rightwing illiterati reduces the quality of the debate to something I’d expect from remedial grade 9 students.
Of course… this would explain the sort of mind that continues to thing George Bush is doing a good job.

  26. John – you must be smokin dope to think that 100 million barrels saved = 19 billion barrels drilled.
Plus, the tire inflation things will only provide you with 3% increase if you had previously seriously under-inflated tires.
If you would bother to read most of the comments, you would also notice that no-one has a problem with maintaining proper tire pressure. It is the assinnine idea that this equates to 19 billion barrels of new oil that normal people reject.
Of course, your comments explain the sort of mind that thinks George Bush is a monkey!!

  27. JOHN
“this would explain the sort of mind that continues to thing George Bush is doing a good job.”
You can not have it both ways, if GWB is such a knob, then how can he be such a genius and fool so many Americans? Let me guess, the average American/Canadian is stupid; but, lucky for us we have people like you to show us the truth.
    Thank goodness for elitists.
