Is that egg or sweat that I see on that journalist’s face?
You know things are going well, when Iraqis decide it’s time for payback:
Iraqi judicial source said his country would lodge a lawsuit against the United Nations at a U.S court over corruption charges in the Oil-for-Food programme overseen by the International organisation for seven years.
“A Texas-based legal firm would lodge an Iraqi government lawsuit at state court in NewYork”, Iraqi Justice Ministry source, who requested anonmity, told Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq(VOI).

‘From the streets of Baghdad, a message of hope’
With no thanks to Chretien or his self-promoted right-hand man.
Oh, so now G.W. is resorting to brainwashing innocent Iraqi citizens — has this man no shame?
How long until we can boot him out of office and restore Baghdad to its natural state of dictatorships and torture squads?
Former PM Chretien (liberal) refuses to help Iraqi people suffering under Saddam.
Maurice Strong (liberal insider) was a United Nations operative.
Saddam, Strong and others at the UN benefit from Oil For Food scam.
The Iraqi people suffered under both Saddam and the UN.
Adscam was a liberal program also.
Naw, all just one big coincidence.
A lawless city where you can conduct interviews with people while sitting on deck chairs in the outdoor patio of a cafe….
A sunny stretch after the storm. = TG
Hobbema streets are more lawless . but very little said about our “first notions”
Very brave of the reporter to venture outside his hotel!
good…hopefully they will start using this weapon on only large lunatic crowds of raging mentally ill men aged 18 and up….hopefully they will continue to develop the weapon so that it can just evaporate them..
That payback would be too sweet were they successful. Suing the UN for the billions it siphoned off. It’s almost too sweet.
Makes you wonder if all the child prostitution victims in places like Congo could launch a class action suit some day.
The report concluded that former regime of Saddam Hussein had gained nearly $1.8 million in bribes and paybacks skimmed over the course of the programme.
1.8 million? Are you sure about that number, Paul?

Paul Volcker head of the independent inquiry committee into the United Nations Oil-for-Food Program speaks at a news conference in New York. More than 2,200 companies provided Saddam Hussein’s regime with 1.8 billion USD in bribes and illegal payments in the rush to profit from the UN oil-for-food program, the inquiry reported.
And from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil-for-Food_Programme
It is estimated that as much as $10 billion to $21.3 billion went unaccounted for and/or was directed to Saddam Hussein and his government in the form of kickbacks and oil smuggling. Record keeping of illegal behaviour is hard to come by and rare at best. To date, only 1 of 54 internal UN audits of the Oil-for-Food Programme have been made public. The UN has refused all requests for its audits.
Earl the Pearl, LOL, you nailed it, leaving the hotel bar after all of these years in Iraq counts as a Gunga Dan courageous moment in MSM journalism. Oh, sure, there were embedded MSM journos cocooned safely at the beginning, but, when things got rough with the occupation unreliable and sometimes outright deceitful local stringers were hired to get the first person work done.
The best and bravest Iraq war reporting was done by bloggers, Michael Totten and Bill Roggio to name two. No Pulitzers will ever grace them.
And, let’s not forget that Mark Steyn visited Iraq early on without protection.
I wonder what if any coverage the prosecution of the UN will draw in the media. I’d like to see Mo Strong in court, the crooked old bastard.
Go back to the start of the clip. Am I the only one who breaks out laughing at these “reporters” while remembering Monty Python sketches of Beeb TV reporters in black suits with mics on the beach walking toward the camera all earnest and pregnant pauses. Don’t these guys know Monty Python at all? Are they tone deaf? Don’t they hear the side-splitting echoes?
“A Texas-based legal firm would lodge an Iraqi government lawsuit”
Let’s hear it for the lawyers!! Hip hip, hooray, hip, hip…okay, then don’t. Spoilsports.
The MSM makes me sick. That reporter was practically begging those two fellows to say something negative about Iraq.
I was waiting for him to get on his hands and knees and start crying because he couldn’t get the story to go the way he wanted.
It ain’t the lawyers it’s the laws!
And it’s way past time that the likes of Kofi Annan and a host of others from the den of thieves at the UN were brought to account.
Whether or not Iraq is successful in this there is the potential benefit of bringing that organization and the pack of whores who operate there to an end.
Mo Strong will remain protected in China unfortunately. But that will be his prison.
islam and sharia are enshrined in the constitution of iraq. how the hell, long do you think it will be before the shit hits the fan and islam continues it’s ugly march toward world domonation. man more stupid people than intelligent.
Great idea, but not a hope in hell of forcing the UN to pay up. Diplomatic Immunity will be the clarion call rallying the bureaucrats to the walls…
I dunno mojo – I’m not sure that diplomatic immunity applies to the UN as an entity.
I just finished reading “The Insider” a book written by Saddams doctor, Ala Bashir. It speaks a lot about the corruption and how the inner regime worked. I encourage people to give it a read, I got it from my library.
If only it were possible to sue the UN into oblivion as its net effect is more harm than good. Even WHO (World Health Organization) which is often pointed to as the best of a bad lot got it wrong for so long on DDT that it enabled the deaths of millions of malaria in Africa, mostly children.
Their wrong-headedness extends to over-funding AIDS medicines which are terribly expensive (instead of teaching sexual responsibility)while underfunding TB, gastroenteritis etc. which can be cheaply cured.
The risible Human Rights Council or whatever they’re calling that turkey right now comprises the worst regimes on the planet criticizing the best.
And the deafening silence on Zimbabwe, Darfur and Rwanda gives a sort of official OK to these travesties. Mugabe just mooned the world and is cackling with impunity.
There is a strong Canadian and French connection in the Oil for Food corruption. The Western Standard did an article showing multiple connections among Maurice Strong who’s now in Red China reaping his rewards for excellent service to World Communism, Desmarais Corp and Chretien as well as several other liberal prime ministers and Mulroney if I’m not mistaken.
the irony here is that Iraq will sue the UN in a US court. The US is main funder of the UN. The US will pay the fine if Iraq is successful.
There is something wrong with this picture.
George Galloway is going to be so upset when he has to pay back some of the money he stole from Iraqi children.
