’63 Race Vette

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned I was painting a race ‘vette. A few of you asked for photos – here’s one. My portion of the work (I came in after the black base coat was completed by Lazer Auto Body of Saskatoon) was in painting the molded “bumpers” and “grill” to resemble chrome. It turned out pretty well, by all accounts.
A front and rear view.
(Just found track pics of the Scatrat, which I painted many years ago for Bob of Lazer Auto Body, as well as the Froot Loop, which I think I did in ’06.)

  1. Nice Job Kate,,,
Man, use to own a orange 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge with a 455 CI and a 4-speed Saginaw, for the life of me I have never fiqured out why I sold that car…
Saw one go for over $250,000 on one of those Auctions Shows on Speedvision. Now that brought tears to my eyes.

  2. SNAZZY!! What does THAT puppy turn in the quarter? Did it actually start life as a split window coupe? My first Corvette was a ’64 ragtop with the hardtop as well. It was an ex-fuelie, 4-speed, with a 327 bored to 331 CID, 12.5 to 1 compression, balanced and blue-printed, Sanderson headers with straight pipes back slightly over-carbed with a Holley 850 duel feed, double pump. It used to get terrible vapor lock when I’d visit the parents in Sacramento. Noisy little job, but I loved it. With me driving it turned low 13s at 100 plus at Fremont Int’l. Such an easy car to drive. I usually rode around with the hardtop in place because it looked incredibly cool plus I don’t like what happens to my hair in the wind. There ARE priorities, after all.

  3. Woo! That’s niiiiice.
What would you do with a 1947 Ford COE, Kate? Currently a lovely “patina” colour. That’s what they are calling rust these days, “patina”.

  4. Wow, if they could make that thing run on cheeseburgers, it would be a great commute car.

  5. someone i knew dropped a hot 350 into a monza and twisted the frame/chassis within 20min of the first ride. haha

  6. Very nice job on the paint Kate. I saw those pics right after Blair posted them to his site but had no idea you had done the bumper painting. Many of my car buddies commented on how good that Vette looked.

  7. I can’t see the pic above. Does anyone else have the same problem?
Link to pics are nice though Kate…

  8. Bizarre but fascinating ‘vette. Certainly a fun, if expensive, hobby lifestyle.
Geez, Kate, you’ve got yourself an effin’ cool job there. Bet you’d love it if vans with fancy paintings on the sides came back, just like back in the Seventies. Imagine that. Each job would be a rolling advertisement for your art services. ‘Course, you’d have to sign each one, for sure!
Oh, that reminds me… the other day I looked in my rearview mirror and noticed an 18-wheeler’s grille had teeth painted on it, making it appear as if it might bite a big chunk out of one’s vehicle’s rear. Teeth on a grille! Enjoyed the sighting.
Recently sighted a right-hand-drive Nissan Skyline GTR to my left at a stoplight… wtf! I thought the Skyline was illegal in N.A., but some lucky s.o.b. somehow managed to import one and get it licenced anyway. The pronounced exhaust sound at takeoff was rather alien, raised the hairs on the back of my neck… Next thing I know, some lucky s.o.b. will be cruisin’ by in a Porsche 959…

  9. Canadian Sentinel… go here for information regarding your much desired Nissan Skyline, legal, and in Canada.

Stop killing our children and cute puppies with your planet-destroying ego machine! Your irresponsible abuse of the globe’s finite resources is worse then Hitler!
