He’s survived the Rich Playboy Disease that took so many others before their time, so I wouldn’t count the old buffoon out just yet. The Anchoress;
“My prediction: Someone – probably Keith Olbermann or Chris Matthews – will go completely over the top and say that the Kennedy illness will not mark the “end of Camelot…how fitting that it is being revived this very night by Barack Obama, Ted Kennedy’s handpicked successor to the enduring legacy,” or some such gag-inducing nonsense.”
Count on it.
That Ted Kennedy is being described as the Kennedy “patriarch” is an indication of the steepness of the clan’s decline.
Further thoughts: I take no pleasure in the news, either, but there’s something in the knowledge that this is a man who once chose to leave a young woman to die, that has an eroding effect on my sympathy.
Just remember the name Ted Kennedy the next time someone equates “he’ll have to live with it for the rest of his life” with “punishment”.

Over at the Globe and Mail, they have already cut off comments about Ted Kennedy. One comment that was left standing is “This family is cursed”…or something to that effect. Actually, the comment should be “This family is a curse”.
“***UPDATE***Thom writes that my prediction came true within minutes of my posting it: Unsurprisingly, it was the easily-moved and sentimental Chris Matthews who handed the revived Camelot to Obama via Ted. Sometimes I scare myself. But it’s not that I’m so smart; it’s that these people are so pathetically predictable.”

He became the patriarch in 1968.
Just returning from whence they came. Their family history is a shakey one. Joe Kennedy Sr. was far better respected than perhaps he should have been. Stock manipulation, virulent anti-semitism, a strong supporter of Joseph McCarthy, and, according to Brits during the Battle of Britain, a coward… it’s not good.
While we’re at it, let’s not forget that old Joe made his millions smuggling booze. It’s an odd suggestion that Camelot might have been funded by organized crime.
Was it not Tedward Kennedy who stuck the “Osama” label on Obama to begin with?
I’ve always loathed Ted Kennedy but I take no pleasure in news of his impending demise, particularly in view of the cause.
Kennedy endorses Obama much to Clinton’s surprise and chagrin.
A few weeks later he is diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Hmmmmmm??????
Politicians and their mouthpieces have been known to over dramatize before so I really don’t want to jump the gun on the old “Swimmer” jumping the shark any time soon.
I do not look forward however to the fawning that will ensue should his diagnoses be grave. They will start naming buildings after this guy long before he assumes room temperature. He will be painted as yet another heroic Kennedy instead of the Black Sheep of a pretty good flock.
He could never hold a candle to either of his brothers, flaws or not. Longevity and absolutely no shame at all are his greatest assets and will be his only legacy.
Meanwhile, cocktail waitresses from Massachusetts to Florida and female congressional interns in DC will all be breathing a sigh of relief that they survived the Ted Kennedy Era.
Tom
I take no pleasure in his impending death.
Of course, if there was any justice, he’d be in the PRISON medical ward instead of the finest private New England that the Kenedy bootlegging fortune can afford.
Or, barring that, his death would better have come by way of hanging for the crime of killing a woman and walking away from her when she died.
That at least would be justice. But then you don’t take pleasure at hanging a murderer.
the ‘swimmer’s” father when ambassador to the court of st james was caught conniving with the nasties in that when the nasties won HE….Joe would be the sole franchisee for the importation of Scotch liquor into the USA…
FDR had his number and shitcanned him…….tho i loved JFK…still do….he was a leader of men…….mind you i love Elizabeth Regina as well…She too is a leader of men.
I take no pleasure in the news, either, but there’s something the knowledge that this is a man who once chose to leave a young woman to die, that has an eroding effect on my sympathy.
Amen to that. I’m sure that I’m far from the only one whose beliefs are being put to the test by this news.
“…a man who once chose to leave a young woman to die, that has an eroding effect on my sympathy.”
Indeed, Kate. He has much to answer for, even before we consider his political transgressions.
Joe sold his sole to the devil and that’s the legacy of this family, rich by illegal means and an admirer of Hitler too boot. If it weren’t for Jacks almost causing a nuclear war the world would be better off forgetting about this lot.
Any accurate count yet on the number of volunteers who would liquor up the gelatinous old fool and offer to drive him home … via the dike bridge at Chappaquiddick?
Cancer is a very ugly thing, which I wish on no one.
That said, better men than Ted Kennedy have gotten cancer.
I don’t know about anyone else, but when I first heard ‘seizures’and ‘Ted Kennedy’mentioned on the news ,I thought he had been busted for booze and porn.
and to salve the sensitive souls let me play the goat here…i REVEL in the old whited sepulchre’s demise….may he burn in hell for an eternity…i saw no expiation of guilt for his sins…ergo no christian redemption…and i speak as as much a mick and as much as roman catholic as that fatuous jowly privileged fortunate son….he never ever never did a goddamn thing for his fellow man that i can see….
let him be a memento mori for the rest of those trough swilling poseurs in the democratic party….i hiss and sneer at him…i shout out et in arcadia ego(in all it’s multiplicities) you vain demented purple faced self interested fraud.
i’m a hard man to be sure but fundamentally a fair man….a Jehovah full of wroth if you care….sigh…the old Jehovah’s gone out of fashion these days but i see an opportunity for a reprise coming down the pike.
“that has an eroding effect on my sympathy.”
– Amount Sen Kennedy cares about anything you or any of the other sorry excuses on this forum do, say or think:
Zero.
Keep firing though! The negativity does wonders for your health, I hear.
angryflower, go take a long drive off a short bridge, preferably the one in Chappaquidick, where the Swimmer left his last lover.
Charles MacDonald:
Yes, it was Ted who introduced Barack O. as “Osama bin Laden” at a Democrat function. Here’s a link to the video.
Let’s Ask Osama …
“The negativity does wonders for your health, I hear.”
And yet, your name is ‘angryflower’.
that’s right angryflower….ZERO !…that’s exactly what teddy cared about ANYONE in his whole worthless life.
Ted Kennedy and Mary Jo Kopechne were driving along and Mary Jo says: “Teddy, I think I’m pregnant. What should we do about it?” Ted replies: “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
Well said Kate.
ted like me, will have lots to answer for when he is judged.
Value seen at the end of a man’s life is based on the price paid along the way. Eddy permanently emptied his account years ago when he let a pregnant Mary Jo drown in his car one cold convenient night.
What will he use to pay the ferryman?
I don’t think the truth was Ted’s long suit., thus I have to wonder if it really is cancer. I am not normally skeptical, but when it comes to the Kennedy clan and Ted in particular, it seems wise.
Seizures happen to alcoholics. 60+ years of hard drinking could be the cause of his seizure. . His publicity machine may be in overdrive to cover up the real reason his health is failing.
It looks like the end of his drinking career is nigh one way or the other.
I would not wish cancer on any one, even him.
Ted Kennedy’s greatest failure is that he embraced the McGovern wing of the Democrat Party, nowadays represented by Pelosi, Obama and their ilk. These are the same people that hated his brothers, both of whom were killed by Communists.
The talk of “Camelot” is a reminder – were he alive, JFK himself would be too conservative for the Republican nomination, and unthinkable as Democrat.
I feel no need to express angst or maudlin concern over the fate of Ted Kennedy. After all he could have spent his life in prison and developed cancer just as easily spending his life as he chose to.
I give you http://fatboy.cc/
kennedy = over-rated
I must confess, when I heard he’d had a seizure my first thought was “Stopped drinking eh?”. Brain tumor’s aren’t nice. In a perfect world no one would get them and I would not dare to presume to say who deserves and doesn’t deserve them. Like the line from the move “Unforgiven”: “Well, I guess he had it comin'”. “Kid, we all got it comin'”. I can’t say that I ever saw much to redeem Ted in his behavior or his pompous, self-righteous, hypocritical pronouncements. That being said, he simply was who he was, and far worse men have lived far more blessed lives than he. What dismayed me more was that a man so utterly and transparently base could be so adored by the press and his party, could show so many to be so willfully blind to who he was and could be chosen time and time again by the people of Massachusets to be their senator. It reinforces Churhill’s pronouncement that “Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.”
I would like to be able to chime along with the herd, with the standard “I take no pleasure etc.” but I cannot. I am glad to see and end to this scoundrel.
So long, Chappaquidick Ted
You left her in your car for dead
Some thought you a knave
For leaving her in a watery grave
But as you do best, you went to bed.

(A little editing brings great improvement).
I hope the last thing he sees before he meets the devil is the last moments of “Mary Jo Kopechne” life as she died. I am glad he’s the end of a era where the immoral Wealthy Elite were treated like royality.
I could careless how he dies or what takes his life, the man is evil personified.
Karma? ….What goes around, comes around?
No tears shed here!
I was listening to FOX News at work(God I love Sirius) when the news was breaking and I heard the terms “lion of the Senate”, “lion of the Democrats” and then of course “lion of American politics” by three different leftists in about a twenty minute span.
It was as revolting as listening to MSNBC…
“You see Barack Obama at that rally surrounded by all those Kennedys? Man, I couldn’t tell if he was running for president or bartender.” –Jay Leno
Yes, angryflower
It’s incredible isn’t it? The news hits that a man has a malignant brain tumour and within minutes all the nobodies have to gather here like vultures to squeeze the pus out of their rancid hate-filled souls.
Kate deserves kudos, I guess, for providing this forum for all these oh-so-lonely fist-shakers – God knows what they’d get up to if they couldn’t come here to puke up their bile!
john begley, as you cast Kennedy’s soul into everlasting hell, you might want to check out your Bible, which will tell you that you are no Christian if you are so omniescently willing to condemn another to his everlasting deserts.
Rose – Kennedy is ‘evil personified’ – how so? For pushing through social programs to help the poor and disenfranchised for the last 30 years – the very thing Christ instructs his followers to do?
For the dopes who want to go back to ol’ Joe Kennedy and hang his sins on Ted Kennedy too, are you so ignorant that you are unaware that the Kennedy family’s elite privileged neighbours in Kennebunkport, the Bush family, had among its numbers Prescott Bush – GW Bush’s grandfather – who did business with the companies who financed Hitler’s rise to power…and actually had his profits seized under the Trading with the Enemy Act? Look it up!
(Some things don’t change – witness the Bush family’s business dealings with the Bin Laden family)
At least Ted Kennedy won’t go to his grave as a war criminal like GW Bush!
I’m sure if any of the Kennedys heard about my imminent demise they’d weep uncontrollably…
Seriously, I never wish anybody dead, not because I’m noble, it’s more fear of fate, karma and a bit of the Golden Rule. But it would be silly to pretend I’m concerned about someone who I didn’t respect and lived a life of such privilege and power that he was practically on another planet.
Well I for one do take pleasure from seeing loathesome men like Teddy Kennedy die. I hope it hurts, Ted, you deserve every moment of it.
bolik ….all the nobodies have to gather here like vultures to squeeze the pus out of their rancid hate-filled souls.
Our hate filled soles?
souls
Bolik: Nothing to say about Ted’s involvement in that girl’s death I see.
Get over yourself drama queen, Ted the drunk belongs in prison.
Mike Kelley at 5:10 p.m. LOL. Good one Mike.
multirec
“Drama queen”? After the frothing at the mouth of you ghouls on hearing that a man has a malignant brain tumour? Please.
His involvement in that girl’s death didn’t have much impact on his constituency did it? They’ve re-elected and re-elected him.
One death versus the over four thousand that GW Bush is responsible for in his illegal war for oil based on lies – and which you guys all support.
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Mary Jo Kopechne died July 18 1969 at the hands of the inebriated Ted Kennedy.
The one and only reason he didn’t go to jail for 20 years is the fact of His Family name.
“I am glad he’s the end of a era where the immoral Wealthy Elite were treated like royality.”
I guess you have never heard of the Bush clan?
