            Blind Faith was a moment in time. The alchemy of super-talented musicians unfettered by commercial radio success. What they left behind is inimitable. Perfect. And timeless. For me, it is a soundtrack for my life … right after Cream molded the pattern.

            Very good biography of our shared guitar hero, err organ hero, err piano hero, err sax hero, flute hero … Robert. Indeed, Winwood is a brilliant example of how English Rock musicians of my era didn’t ‘imitate’ but ‘interpreted’ … ‘internalized’ Black American Blues, R&B, and Jazz. They reinterpreted that music through an English (dare I say … white) lens. What that respectful amalgam produced can never be repeated.

  7. George Chuvalo passed away today, on his 89th birthday, 93 pro fights and his toughest fights weren’t in the ring.

    When my daughter was 24-25 and teaching boxing to middle aged housewives, I’d bought her George’s book…
    Mackenzie would have to coax the gals into actually taking a connecting swing, they really hesitated though they wanted to throw some fists, get a good workout, and maybe just surprise someone someday… right after Macq would let them hit her they’s say “Oh I’m sorry did that hurt and are you ok?” while 5.5 and 124 lbs Macq laughed… I saw my daughters fighting / sparing in a ring and couldn’t stand it at all..

        George took a beating from Ali, but wouldn’t go down.
        Ali gave him respect for that.
        Tough as nails.

    2. Mr. Chuvalo was tough in another way. He lived to the age of 84, unusual for a pro boxer who had so many hard matches. A man with class.

  8. L – George Chuvalo was a genuine hero for adolescent boys and young men. Tough, strong, an ability to take punishment and never give up. To go the distance. All with self-control and humility. This in spite of family tragedy that would have broken a lesser man.

    A genuine role model, one needed badly now, so that Canada or a part or two of it survives intact. Every schoolboy needs to know the quality of men; they need to grow up to be.

    It would be better to put George Chuvalo on the $20 dollar bill than the current male person pretending to be King of Canada.

I sometimes use my free table saw (from Facebook Marketplace) to resaw free wood into something useful, it’s an older model, cast-iron top Delta, but it’s much more quiet than the portable units sold for $500 at retail and the 80 teeth Diablo (sourced separately) is exactly what I want at the business end of it, it cuts true and nobody is going to steal my saw. I’ve seen the SawStop units and thought how I’ve spent +30 years in some sort of construction and sometimes when I meet fresh talent being brought onto a work site I’ll raise my hands, proudly displaying 10 digits on my hands indicating that I’m quicker than a falling i-beam and have never been caught up in a Ridgid roll-groove machine like one young gal did in Ft Mac who is now left handed. They all think it’ll never happen to them, but too many “have an uncle with 9 digits”..
    Anyways, “SawStop” has had a solution to this for awhile though it costs +/- $200 for each time you tried their solution. Bosch and a couple others made some saws which didn’t differ enough from SawStop’s patents and in each case they lost and stopped building solutions.
    It appears that new tech is going to make a dent in SawStop’s monopoly… and their solution doesn’t cost you each time you look away for “just a second”
