Reader Tips

Open thread for your tips.
Blog notes – many of you awoke this morning to discover you were “forbidden” from accessing the site. I was dealing with a persistent troll late last evening, and placed a block on a large range of numbers from the isp to deal with him. It’s been removed now – my apologies for the inconvenience.
But a request – again. When you read a comment written by an obvious troll, do NOT RESPOND IN ANY MANNER WHATSOEVER. You simply make my cleanup more time consuming. The site has search functions that allow me to pull all comments made by an individual up at once and mass delete them. But when you reply, you force me to go through threads one at a time to delete the orphaned replies.
So, just don’t. If you have something to say on a specific topic, simply say it. It is not the intended function of this site to provide a forum for chat or extended debates with other readers.

Pretty amazing how all this crap is going to fall on Toronto.
After the complete the transition to full status as the worlds dumping ground for economic refugees or as predicted “environmental” refugees…. after the concerned activists in the socialist government of Toronto the pink ban private vehicles from the city … which will successfully put an end to all that evil “Big Business” that goes on there….. after all that these poor victims of man’s greed and evil disregard for the world and the planet are going to be Flooded out of their homes (pictures of New Orleans here?) and then subjected to the evaporation of Lake Ontario!!!!
Man you better get the hell out of Toronto now!

  2. hmmm… it occurs to me I should mention that I do realize the article I posted if from New Zealand. But they’re basically transplanted Brits so I figured the Tony Blair reference wasn’t too big a reach.

  3. charles macdonald – take a look at Captain’s Quarter’s blog (scroll down) for his analysis of the possible results of the break up of the Rafah wall between Gaza and Egypt.
He’s saying much along the same lines as my speculation – that Israel would welcome this, as it could lead to Gaza becoming functionally a ‘suburb’ (my term) of Egypt and therefore, not part of any future Palestinian state. See also his links.
And also, Morrisey (Captain’s Quarters) writes:
“Arab nations such as Egypt have long used the Palestinians for their own political purposes, but have done nothing to alleviate their conditions. They see the Palestinians as useful props but nothing more, and would rather have little to do with them.”
Exactly. The Arab nations view the Palestinians with contempt as ‘lowest’ on the hierarchical tribal scale. And they’ve used them for their own purposes. In particular, Islamic fascism has used them.
But, my point is only that it will be interesting to see what will Egypt do. I don’t see how it can stop that new link between Gaza and Egypt. Except with force, which will throw Egypt into a bad light. Morrisey thinks Egypt will close the wall. I doubt it…but if they don’t, Gaza is lost to Palestine.

  5. “Christian ‘infidels’ to eat ‘Muhammad.’ Political TV hosts fed up with PC Islam will devour cookie with face of prophet”
    By Joe Kovacs
    © 2008 WorldNetDaily.com
This cookie with a depiction of the Muslim prophet Muhammad will be eaten on ‘Flamethrower,’ a new political program on Faith TV
A new, cutting-edge, political TV show will challenge Islam with biting humor tomorrow night, placing the face of the prophet Muhammad onto a cookie and then having it eaten on camera.
“We’re going to take a stand and say Muhammad’s face is delicious,” said Molotov Mitchell, the 28-year-old incendiary creator and host of “Flamethrower,” a program described as a low-budget, gritty cross between the “The Daily Show,” “The Colbert Report,” and “The View” if Ann Coulter were the producer. “This is religious and culinary history in the making.”
The theme of this week’s episode is “All Things Islam,” as panelists take on the faith of Muslims in a no-holds-barred fashion.
“Islam is not even a religion,” Mitchell told WND from a location somewhere in Eastern North Carolina. “It’s an ideology of ‘might makes right’ disguised as a religion. We’re going to show that Allah was with us when we baked this cookie and ate it. Deal with it!”
Mitchell and his fellow panelists – all of whom are Christians in their 20s and whom he calls the next generation of conservatism – are trying to make the point that America is still a free country, and there’s no need to cower in fear from Islamo-fascism. He laments the frequency of Islamic suicide bombings, giving a new twist to a famous line from “It’s a Wonderful Life,” by stating, “Every time a bell rings, a Muhammad gets his wives.”

  6. “Study: Danes most fearful of Islam”
    The Copenhagen Post Online
Danes are among the most critical of Islam, according to a report by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Some 79 percent of Danes responded in a poll that they considered more interaction with the Muslim world as a threat.
The worry was shared by a large majority in other European countries such as Sweden, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain, where up to 67 percent of the population feared more Western interaction with Muslim communities.
The message of the report was clear: there was a widening gap between the West and Islam.
‘There is an alarmingly low optimism regarding dialogue between the two worlds,’ said Klaus Schwab, founder of the WEF, to Berlingske Tidende newspaper.
The WEF had conducted surveys in 21 countries (half of which were Muslim) throughout 2007. And the general picture was one of distrust.
The Danes’ and other Europeans’ views on interaction with the Islamic world as a threat was, according to the report, due to a ‘growing fear’ of the ‘Islamic threat’ against their European identities.
This assumption was based on ‘increased immigration from predominantly Muslim regions’ the report said.
    —————
About time. Next step: Elect politicians who will ban Islamic immigration, quickly deport troublemaker Muslims, enact laws to make the practice of political Islam and shariah illegal, and ban as hate speech all pertanent verses in the Islamic trilogy.

  7. We hear about the arctic sea ice being the lowest ever recorded. We also hear about how “multi year ” sea ice helps keep the arctic cool by reflecting sunlight. What I have not seen anything about is the difference between the energy loss from open water/ one year ice and multi year ice. Ice is an insulator, the thicker the ice the greater the insulation. When the arctic lost all that ice last year it exposed the seas to much more cooling/energy loss than when it was covered with multi year ice.
We just saw on CBC how the Beaufort sea had huge open leads that were proof of global warming but when we check on the level of sea ice in the area we see that freeze up is ahead of last year and ahead of the mean for 1979 – 2000.
It is hard to know the truth when our state funded media cherry picks the information.

  8. point: Article from New Zealand paper was in fact datelined London and as such qualifies as a Tony Blair’s Britian item. besides, most pets/girlfriends in NZ are of the four-legged variety. Sorry, me baaaa d!

  9. ET, I agree with you on the unlikelihood of Egypt closing the wall. Captain’s Quarters needs to review the provisions of the Israeli-Egyptian Peace Treaty limiting the deployment of Egyptian military and border forces in Sinai.
As to Israel, Olmert may well welcome these developments — but his time as Prime Minister is rapidly drawing to a close. Other, more realistic leaders know that Egypt gets a free pass on neglecting or abusing the Palestinians. Israel does not, and therefore cannot rely on Egypt to see to the humanitarian needs of Gazans.

  10. I received a handbill and mail-in opinion poll from Stephen Harper, MP (Calgary SW). He wants to know if I would like the Senate abolished, an elected Senate with 8 year terms, or no change.
Have you received anything similar from your friendly local Conservative MP?

  11. P.S. For anyone who received the Senate opinion poll, it can be returned to the local constituency office or to:

  12. Fauxtographic. I’ll have to remember that one.
Melanie Phillips, The Hamas repertory company
…From the staged ‘killing’ of Mohammed al Durah, to Hezbollah’s ‘fauxtographic’ staged Israeli ‘atrocities’ during the Lebanon war, to the staged candlelit theatrics in Gaza, there is clearly no end to the am dram talents of the Palestinians in acting out make-believe and presenting it as fact.
Maybe this is what Arafat actually meant by his ‘strategy of stages’. It certainly is a true theatre of war.

  14. Re: Alistair Macfarlane’s posting regarding Toronto’s need for preparations for “environmental refugees.” I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Doesn’t Toronto have any more immediate problems to deal with? As far as I am concerned, this is a new low in global warming stupidity. Anyone notice that Al Gore was a featured speaker at Davos? Bono was there too . . . same old snake oil guys. It is amazing that many (most) people continue to be deceived.

  15. Steve janke has a good write up today on Comments Dion made to Tobacco Farmers in southern ontario.
Since Dion knows all about farming he has suggested that they should stop growing “tobacco & grow Ginsing”

  16. Elected Senate.. ..not rep by pop…but representation based on the date a province entered confederation. I do not know where this is written but it is certainly a position the Liberals feel is valid. New Brunswick would get 8 seats, Alberta 3 or 4.

  17. Is Liberal Khaled Mouammar, Muslim, a proxy/covert spokesman for Liberal Citoyen Dion?
    …-
Liberal-linked Canadian Arab Federation attacks Jason Kenney over Durban II decision
The Canadian Arab Federation has come out strongly against the Canadian government’s decision, supported by the NDP, to not participate in any way with the upcoming UN-sponsored Durban II conference on racism. The position of the Conservative government, supported by the NDP, is that Durban II is shaping up to be an exercise in the most vile and repellent anti-Semitism, as was experienced by the Canadian delegation that attended the Durban I conference in 2001.
The CAF has every right to take a different position. But to call Jason Kenney an Islamophobe who is contemptuous of Arabs and of Islam?
But then CAF president Khaled Mouammar, who has all sorts of links with the Liberal Party, declares anyone who sympathizes with Israel to be guilty complicit in war crimes.
I wonder if Khaled Mouammar is planning a trip to the Durban II conference.

There’s something happening here, What it is ain’t exactly clear.
A pair of pre-election polls were released this week, painting very different pictures of the upcoming Alberta election.
If you only look at the horse race numbers, there’s not much to be cheerful about in Liberal land – the Strategic Counsel had the PCs at 58% of decided voters, while Leger had them at 49%.
I tend to think the former fell victim to a bit of federal/provincial confusion (they didn’t put leader names in the question) but even the second set of numbers leave the parties pretty much where they were at the end of the last election campaign.**

National Post columnist feels nauseous over accolades about Canada overseas
Solid candidate for the worst remark published in the mainstream media so far this month: A remark in his column today by the ever so patriotic National Post columnist Don Martin, who, apparently, when he hears too much talk casting his country in a good light on the world stage, it makes him feel nauseous.
“Canada is saluted ad nauseam by Afghan leaders and visiting dignitaries as a country at the pivotal heart of an international struggle against the Taliban.” Don Martin

  24. For all the hockey fans out there, Daniel Alfredsson just scored 7 points, 3 goals, against Tampa Bay. With Vincent Lecavalier 6 points ahead in the standings, Alfredsson and the Senators kept Lecavalier off the scoreboard, vaulting Alfie ahead of Vinnie in the scoring race. …..Immediately after the game, Cliff Fletcher negotiated a trade to bring Alfredsson to the Leafs for Gary Leeman and 5 guys nobody’s heard of.

  25. The bastardization* of the English language by the MSM:

“Charest can’t turn blind eye to language issue
Study showing more Montrealers speak English at home can’t be ignored
Jean Charest better hold on to his hat. He wants to make the economy his priority, but the language issue is back.
Last week, his language minister Christine St. Pierre felt the heat for some articles in the Journal de Montréal in which a reporter passing herself off as a unilingual anglo got 22 job offers and worked in 15 jobs out of 97 stores.
To counter these findings, the minister quoted a “study” by the Office québécois de la langue française saying that 90 per cent of stores in downtown Montreal served their clients in French. But on Friday, we learned that this study didn’t exist. It was in fact a “promotional campaign” in which the OQLF visited some stores to see which language was used. There was no scientific study and no detailed report.”

“The leader rises, but the country falls
Janes reports that North Korea is in a bad way — in a really bad way — bad even by its own abysmal standards. “Kim Jong-Il’s regime could collapse within six months, bringing chaos to North Korea, observers and intelligence sources in Asia have told Jane’s. … The centrally controlled economy has also now ceased to function and the food distribution system is near breaking point. With loyalty to the regime at an all-time low, another sign of trouble is the regime’s diminishing ability to prevent people from leaving the country.” But the most alarming sign involves Kim Jong-Il himself.”

  27. Banks are helping sharia make a back-door entrance
    TAREK FATAH
Special to Globe and Mail Update
    January 25, 2008 at 12:36 AM EST
It seems only yesterday that Premier Dalton McGuinty declared: “There will be no sharia law in Ontario.” Many of us, who witnessed the medieval nature of manmade sharia laws in our countries of birth, heaved a sigh of relief back in September of 2005. We thought this was the end of the attempt by Islamists to sneak sharia into a Western jurisdiction. We were wrong…..
…In the name of Islam, deception and dishonesty is being practised while ordinary Muslims are being made to feel that their interaction with mainstream banks is un-Islamic and sinful. As Mr. Saleem asks, “If Islamic banks label their hamburger a Mecca Burger, as long as it still has the same ingredients as a McDonald’s burger, is it really any different in substance?”

  28. Apparently Australia has placed Canada on its list of dangerous places to visit, due to the possiblily of terrorist attacks-
Lizzie May is blaming PMSH for the problems with her latest press release. She says his spinners twisted what she said and over reacted.
First the government is given a bad time by Dion and Layton for turning prisoners over to the Afghans, now they are upset that the prisoners are not being turned over to them.
Codere says it is an outrage or something.
-Do these people think they have a right to know all the happenings of our troops during a war.
-Do the terrorists tell our troops what roads are bobbytrapped, or when a suicide bomber is about to explode, or where it will happen.
What do the liberals want us to do with prisoners who have tried to kill us, who are not subject to the Geneva Convention, and who are trained to yell torture at first sign of capture.

  29. Don Martin is the reason I canceled my natonal post subscription, that and the fact that wornout kinsella polluted the paper with his left wing opinions.
