It’s amazing how socialism/collectivism/authoritarianism can rob a nation of its wealth, and, of course, its freedom.
You can almost set your watch by it; amazingly, we have politicians here who think this is the way to go, who advocate government/UN run bureacracies to deal with every perceived injustice or social problem.
Can anyone think of an example of a socialist country, democratic or otherwise, that has benefited from this ideology, rather than moving backwards?

Re the Hollywood twits. Firstly, they are stupid and I really mean that. Secondly they are folks who already have their jelly donut and will never run out of toilet paper. They feel guilty because they have done virtually nothing to earn what they have. They simply go lucky for the most part. They poor people as needing care, the kind that opportunistic monster like Hugo Chavez is willing to destroy to help them have a better life.
The delusion of leftist thinking is criminal and should be prosecuted or at the very least beaten with a bat at every opportunity.
People will always do better left on their own with nothing but freedom and opportunity. Some will start slow and complain a lot, but in the end the desire for food and shelter will win out. Once they achieve that much, there is no stopping them.
Look at what it did for the US and Canada despite the drag of the every expanding socialist yoke.
