  5. I just watched a short video of Thompson giving an interview on Fox’s Hannity and Colmes. The man makes too much sense to not be taken very seriously in this campaign. He had credibility on all fronts. In the end I’m still hopeful that America will do the wise thing and pick Thompson to lead them. Terrorists worldwide will shiver in their sandals.

    So do a lot of us, but this is the age of “compromise”, and Fred is just too “conservative” for most of the American, (or Canadian) electorate.
    Best we can hope for is that Oprah doesn’t come out for Hillary, or we’ll have our first sociopath in the White House.

    And come on, that video could just as easily be a parody made by 22 Minutes or some similar politically confused crew. If it was, you’d have an entirely different set of comments about it.

    Actually, Fred was a lawyer and a U.S. Senator long before he ever was an actor.

  17. I seem to remember another actor, fellow by the name of Reagan, who was also an actor and became a VERY GOOD President. I guess being an actor is not an impediment to being a good President. So Sheldon, just what the hell is your point?

  22. Excuse me. Does anyone have the URL for Fred Thompson’s official site. The one he bought and paid for and has his actual policies outlined. I’d like to read more about this guy and what he has to say, the media I’m seeing either portrays him as devil, saviour, which no man is either. There must be a middle ground.

    So what’s that? Your (er) mind is made up, so we shouldn’t confuse you with the facts? This is what is so typical of left-wing thinking to me; you make a decision, and then won’t ever change it, even in the face of overwhelming contrary evidence. On the other hand, a true conservative will take a stand but change it when the facts change. To quote Keynes: “When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?”

  32. Why does everyone else in Canada call Toronto, “Tranna”. No one here does, that’s something you find out when you visit here.
    I saw Fred’s site. It took a while for me to believe that he wasn’t the L&O character, but he comes across sincerely. It seems he’s got more good ideas than bad ones. I think that the people who think they are helping him by portraying him as a butt kicking bully instead of a level headed policy maker are not helping him, the majority of Americans wouldn’t vote for that type of person.

  33. I’ve never heard anybody anywhere in the rest of the world call Toronto anything but “Toronto”, except to describe how it’s pronounced in Toronto. I’ve very often heard “Taranna” in Toronto. It’s not universal but it’s common.
    Perahps Sheldon doesn’t get out much? That would be consistent with his belief that the characters on TV shows are somehow real. I have the opposite problem. I’ve never seen the show and I’ve never heard of Fred Thompson except as a politician. I can’t bring myself to believe that he’s actually a well-known actor.

    I think the Good Lord has deemed it wise and necessary to put extra money in the hands of the people that he has given precious little in the way of common sense to, so that no one group has a monopoly on any one resource.
