Stevie – I Hear Your Name Being Called

The Mulroney – Schreiber media frenzy is less a scandal in waiting than it is a speculation-driven Liberal hope bubble. It’s too old, the basis too flimsy, the source too compromised, too little money is alleged to be involved, but most important of all – it’s already been investigated.
And then there’s the involvement of journalist/police informant Stevie Cameron. If ever a scandal had an Achilles in heels…
But I do like Mulroney’s idea.;

After a tough and lengthy battle against these false and horrendously libellous accusations, the government of the day had to admit that they had absolutely no evidence to support them, and apologized to me and my family. In addition, they had to reimburse me of all my legal and other expenses.
Twelve years later, the same people at the CBC and at certain other media organizations who were at the origin of the 1995 accusations are still conducting their vendetta. Last Friday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper decided that he needed the counsel of an independent third party to advise him on the course of action to follow after new allegations were made in an affidavit filed by Karlheinz Schreiber from his prison cell where he is detained pending the execution of an extradition order confirmed twice by the Supreme Court of Canada.
I will fully co-operate with the special adviser soon to be appointed by the Prime Minister, but I have come to the conclusion that in order to finally put this matter to rest and expose all the facts and the role played by all the people involved, from public servants to elected officials, from lobbyists to the police authorities, as well as journalists, the only solution is for the government to launch a full-fledged public commission of inquiry which would cover the period from 1988 to today.

(Caveat – so long as the Globe, the CBC, CTV, and the Liberal Party of Canada are presented with the bill should he again be cleared.)
But, whatever. I come not to praise Mulroney – my fondness for everything Progressive Conservative finally evaporated with the Bristol Aerospace CF-18 contract – but to provide you a dedicated thread.
Stay on topic.

  1. There is no proscription against lying in the House, since Members are considered to be “honorable” and therefore incapable of deliberately lying. They can of course be “mistaken”.
What is forbidden is to accuse another member of lying and there are all sorts of artifices to make the point without coming right out and saying it.

  2. It didn’t take long before this thing to blow up in Dion’s face. There is little doubt, IMHO, that Liberals received same package as everybody else seven months ago.
Now they’ve opened the door for Harper to look like law and order leader, who has called inquiry into Mulroney “affair” and now justified in investigating, in the same way, any revelation about Liberals that comes across his desk.
I wonder if Liberals feel like they’ve been set up. I don’t think they were, but they appear to have been played on this one.
Tomorow promises to be a very interesting day.

  3. The Libs have shot themselves in the foot so many times lately, there’s nothing left now but bloody stumps!

  4. Even if one accepted the accusation against Mr. Mulroney on its face, it is entirely irrelevant to Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government.
Guilt by association is a logical fallacy, but that will not stop the LIEberals.
Another ‘drive by smear’ showing the LIEberal desperation, to get their hands on that lovely $220 billion dollar federal budget so they can redirect some of it to their friends.
The LIEberals are ‘up to their eyeballs in BS’ that even herds of cattle would turn their noses up. I suspect they are incapable of distinguishing between right and wrong if it causes more money to fall ‘accidentally’ into their wallets.
Their story is so leaky that a seive would appear watertight compared to the old Oberon class submarines!!
    Torpedo LOS!

  5. The Mulroney haters at the Star and CBC are getting warmed up today. Watch the feeding frenzy until the Liberal skeletons start coming out of the closet. Some names associated with the Adscam will appear again–should be fun and very expensive for taxpayers

  6. I don’t know if there are any Anglophiles here, but if there are, they might be interested in this point: as far as I can tell about the British system, an imbroglio of accusations that turn out to be false ends with the accusee receiving a knighthood.
Canada is still under the Queen. It’s too early for me to openly suggest this, as the inquiries have just started, but if Mulroney emerges “on the clear,” he would be a good recommendation for a K.

  7. I sincerely hope that this investigation looks into how the RCMP became a political wing of the Liberal party and Chretien’s PMO.
RCMP received Adscam funds, which they covered up, and were relentless in their pursuit of Mulroney and came up with nothing. Now the RCMP are investigating agaim??? Who’s guarding the henhouse?

  8. EBD – I had the same impression as you did in QP today. The Prime Minister caught the Puffins with their feathers unprimped by announcing that he would get a honorary person to advise him about the perimeters of a public inquiry. They persisted in reading their pre written questions. They did not have a default script or the brain power to think up something different to ask about – or are they TOLD not to ask about anything they feel concerned about? I noted the ‘control freak’ references directed at the Prime Minister (while the Speaker was filing his nails, I guess, because he didn’t stop anyone!). Is it in fact they who have to toe the line to a control freak somewhere; if not, they are not worth paying because they are not doing their jobs. If all they can do is read questions and pretend that they are the Dixie Chicks with faux outrage then they should taken off the payroll. We already have entertainers in Canada.
As for the msm, it was a sight to behold. Peter Van Doozen, Duffy and Newman all looked pale and a little green around the gills. Peter Van Doozen on CPAC was trying his best to get Taliban Jack to back out of his stance on ‘investigating’ Mulroney after the serious signed affidavit and his motion to abolish the senate. It was really pretty funny.
I saw Mr. Van Loan take over the topic of senate reform twice today. He came through with his message in flying colors and Newman looked like someone had hit him in the face with a cold omelette.
Interesting times…it has not yet occurred to me to feel sorry for Deyawn, I should but I just can’t – he is pathetic in a very nasty way.

Liberals admit Karl Schreiber is using them
Liberal MP Robert Thibault admits that Karl Schreiber is using the Liberals to avoid deportation to Germany. Stephane Dion is taking a big risk. […]
The Liberals have been intensely pursuing the question of the relationship between Brian Mulroney and Karl Schreiber. This is not a fortuitous coincidence working in Schreiber’s favour. The Liberals and Schreiber are formal allies, as is being reported in the Canadian Press:
Oops! Liberals, NDP received Schreiber documents on Harper but didn’t react

Steve – are you alluding to the fact there there may be COLLUSION between the Liberals and Schreiber. COLLUSION to subvert the justice Germany wants ; COLLUSION to fabricate evidence to frame the Conservatives; COLLUSION to extract millions of dollars in costs to the taxpayer for a witch hunt inquiry to help Mr. Schreiber stay in Canada in return for his assistance to politically smear the Harper government? Collusion which has parlyzed the House of Commons and denied Canadians the right to have our MPs represent us for current programs, services and issues?
    Say it ain’t so. […]

In essence – Schreiber and the Liberals are using extortion tactics against the deportation process….-

  10. The story will now turn to the Liberals being willing mouthpieces for a weasal named schrieber.
What aa bunch of buffoons, msking s huge stink over the issue of receiving the letters and doing nothing and now it turn out the NDP and Libs got this….and thst they have been meet KHS?
Oh my goodness….the media would be smart to take a step back and report on this carefully. Things are not what they seem
if KHS has a song to sing he should sing it. Or cut the deal on the evidence against BM. But he doesnt
I share Spectors take…KHS and BM have common interests again and they will dance their dance without communicating.
Harper can clear the air quickly by letting him be extradtided on condition he be allowed to testify either in person or by conference as many times as necessary for this inquiry….I am sure the germans would agree so they can finally put their mitts on this weasal.
$20 mill commission for the air canada sale….thats a lot of spreaing around money

  11. Envelopes of cash – in hotel rooms – without any paper.
    Let’s repeat once again….
Envelopes of cash – in hotel rooms – no contract.
And a delay of 2 years in reporting the income to Revenue Canada.
Despite all the Machiavellian/Liebral/whatever intents come up in this ….let’s not forget….
Envelopes of cash, in various hotel rooms, over the course of a breadth of time, without any paper.
    C’mon people…mindless partisanship is…..mindless.

  12. Watching Dion in the House makes one cringe, even more so when it is remembered this is all they could come up with over there. It is like watching the idiot children of the inbred while the inbred preen and encourage the idiocy.
Not that they don’t deserve such embarassing ignobility, they do and they owe this country a huge DEBT of taxpayers money it would be worth 50 million more to see them scurry under the light of the enquiry like the cockroaches they are.
And watch for the almost invisible strings on those cockroaches that lead back to places like Power Corp. Those cockroaches are not so much vermin as puppets of the vermin.

  13. That will be dealt with Hardboiled, but for God sakes take off the rose coloured glasses and dump the kool-aid.

  14. I don’t have any rose glasses on – and I’ve left the koolaid for the dippers. But, to summarize…
I’m sure the Libranos are up to their neck in various machinations around this.
The RCMP is a deeply politicized and corrupted force for years. As an armed militia – many simply give them deference because of their history. APEC, BDC, etc. etc.
Many unaccomplished bureaucrats have punched clocks and watched the years tread by on their way to a fully indexed pension as they’ve shuffled paper, and performed to the demands of the ministers and aides who’ve manufactured their various efforts.
After years and years – the only thing that’s important to this nation and the Prime Minister at this point is to call an expensive inquiry – paying all of the assorted ambulance chasers and political operatives – that in the end will result in nothing.
What’s up now? Cretin is off brokering energy deals with dictatorships in the near – and far east, making lot of whack. Lyin’ Brian is now back in the spotlight again – with a cheap way (courtesy the taxpayer) of image remodeling and maufactured public relations.
    Above all…in Chantal Hebert’s words:
“Like the recent Gomery commission into the sponsorship program, this one will not determine whether laws were broken. In the end, its outcome will largely come down to the word of one witness against that of another.”
    It’s all bullsh*t.
And all you seals that are clapping away jittering that the Libranos NOW have it coming won’t even feel the slight tickle in your wallets as these parasites play off of their chests – using your money in a game of ego stomp.
    Fact:
Mulroney was handed and accepted cash in envelopes in hotels over the course of (I believe) 18 months. With no contract. And no reportage to the taxation authoities.
A secret trial occured in several years later – over several months – not reported on the dockets.
Summary: We live in a banana republic – owned and operated by a few oligopolies. The political allegiance of these is irrelevant.
You have been bought and paid for. All of you.
Knee-slapping, laughing at the Libranos, or mindless partisanship does not change this.
Mulroney in a hotel room accepting cash in envelopes from Shreiber.
    End of story.
Let’s move on to Senate reform, electoral reform, tax reform, campaign finance reform, etc etc etc.
And put this piece of crap in the trashcan where it belongs.
You can’t polish a turd – but alot of your money can be spent in the process.
