Watch Dion

Swallow like a man.
That’s my prediction.
Open thread on the throne speech.
I’m in a deliciously mean-spirited mood, so watching a CBC alumnus read this is sweet, though I swear I just saw her husband try to claw fabric off the arm of that chair.
Reaction from Liberal leader Stephane Dion:

  1. I love the delcious irony of this.
Not too long ago it was the Liberals that were attacking the NDP for helping to defeat their minority Government and installing Harper and the Tories. NOW it is Liberals having to weather attacks by the NDP on very possibly supporting the same Government that the Liberals attacked the NDP for helping install in the first place. Liberals – all hypocrisy, all the time.
What is more, yet another prominent Liberal quits on Dion. Just another example of Dion’s “leadership” train continuing its slow motion crash.
Smell that fresh autumn air people, its a great time to be a Conservative! 😀

  2. GWGM at 9:06 Dions no show was remarkable. Was there an official excuse I missed on why he could not be there to show his leadership?.
How tough could it be? Answer a few softball questions with a few routine answers and go home until tomorrow. That he was not there was one of the key stories of the night. The media not asking Iggy why was another.
Not showing on this night says to me Dion has lost the choice in whether he stays or goes.
My guess is that he will step down, and with no time or money for a leadership convention, Iggy will take over as party leader prior to any election. Media will swoon.

  3. Could there be anything more hilarious than Jack and Gilles ( pun intended ) , lined up to give their opinions BEFORE the speech had even ended .

  4. Well, once in a very long while I wish I had my TV plugged in and a cable subscription. I’ll just have to take all your words for it or go see if I can find it on the net.

  5. Swallow like a man. I think there is a pretty good chance he will spit because his party wants to dump him and the sooner the better.
They could even break ranks and vote against the speech knowing that their leader doesn’t have the power to punish them, nor will be around long enough after the election to do anything to them.
This is great entertainment … Spit or Swallow … nice metaphor.

  6. I was watchin the CTV coverage with the big Duff.
It was so much fun watchin the liberals take both sides of the story… even the same person with conflicting positions.
Liberal: “Terrible speech, full of emptiness. Nothing in it for the poor, nothing for the environment, nothing for the economy, the wrong road on foreign affairs. etc etc”
Media: “But Mr. Liberal person (any one of them) Will you vote for or against this speech with nothing in it that you cannot stand for.”
Liberal: “Well we are not sure. Canadians don’t really want an election and we are going to have to balance going to the polls with doing what we believe.”
Which is it going to be? Are the Liberals going to stand up for what they believe (or atleast their retoric? Or are they going to support Harper today. Will they end up doing either?
It’s a good thing they have a strong leader to help them through this tough decision. lmao

  7. This is a great thread, but it’s important to keep in perspective the fact that this whole ordeal is just as painful for Liberal faithful like the CBC, as it is for Dion.
At this rate, Harper will remain the Prime Minister uncontested as Bush retires, leaving leftists everywhere fresh out of lame talking points…

  8. what can you say other than
CBCpravda -All Liberal, All the Time
everything is about the liberal spin, surviving the vote,
who gives a rats bahouki about governing the country, crime , taxes, stealing money, its all about some political game to get the libs back in power with a guy that couldnt beat Kim Campbell in a fistfight.

  9. WARD @ 9:49 p.m.,
The jackals are always so adamant that they ask the tough questions, so you’re right, it is astounding that no one admitted that the BIG NEWS of the night is that the supposed leader of the Liberal Party of Canada snuck out the back door without commenting on the Throne Speech.
Having Iggy perform Dion’s duties this evening is on par with the Toronto Maple Laughs openly interviewing / courting “advisors” like Scotty Bowman to watch over John Ferguson Jr.’s shoulder while JFJ still wears the ceremonial title of General Manager.
Dion’s vanishing act is THE STORY. Dion will be formally finished when the Liberal reporters (redundant?!) start to talk about – and demand answers for – why he’s missing in action.
At that point, they will have received their orders from the real leaders of the LPC that it’s time to turn the page on Dion.

  10. ward was bang-on with his last prediction awhile back — media will turn on Dion, sacrifice him (quickly), then try again — pump up the next Lib-leader.
ward’s next could also nail it —- Iggy to campaign pinch hit, media will swoon. Dion ? Babbling Idiot comes to mind. Intellectual ?? A misnomer.

  11. cal2,That is so unfair,I happen to know that right now steffi’s wife is teaching him how to make a fist. Ee is a orrier and an ero.Leave steffi alone !!!!!!!!

  12. Harper isn’t worried about Iggy…it’s Rae he fears. Iggy has no political instincts, Rae’s are finely tuned. And Rae is a two-headed monster, with his brother behind-the-scenes working for him.

  13. The GG and her husband were a complete disgrace to the Throne speech. They are both so far left that if the world was flat they would fall off. We all knew Joke Layton and Le Separatist were going to vote against the Throne speech before it was given, and the Lieberals under Citoyen Dion( this dual citizenship will haunt him in the future, the Prime minister of Canada cannot have citizenship ties to another country)are all over the map, are in complete disarray tripping over each other wondering what to do…

  14. The throne speech: What I hoped for but not what I wanted.
I hoped PMSH would steer a centrist good government course leaving the opposition nothing to shoot at and nothing for the “mushy middle” to get upset about during the next election.
I wanted PMSH to steer a socially rightist course that tears down the PC industry in Canada.

  15. How can Taliban Jack and Stephane vote against establishing Canada’s claim for ARTIC sovereignty.
Harper will chew them up for breakfast on the campaign trail.

  16. Every time that chipmunk-faced Elizabeth May shows herself on TV, I immediately have to change the channel before a word comes out of her nut-cracking mouth. She annoys me even more than Jack Layton does, lately. I know what she’s gonna say before she says it and I won’t even pretend to listen anymore. Stuck record.

  17. Watch for the MSM’s reaction to tax cuts.
Here’s my prediction … they’re going to bribe us with our own money.

  18. What made the throne speech even more delicious was the installation of an ELECTED senator, Albertan Bert Brown, on the same day. Game, set, match to Stephen Harper!

  19. Anyone willing to bet that citoyen Dion never actually does visit Afghanistan before the long knives of his lieberal friends bury themselves between his shoulder blades?
And this putz actually has the cojones to talk about our Afghan role in the House?
BTW, I’m in total agreement that the GG & her pool boy have got to go… total disgrace to the office.

  20. “Gee Gee, I-can’t-read”‘s lifepartner just gives me the creeps.
Now that the harvests over, do all the scarecrows get new suits?
    Not really the point, though.
If princess steffani wanted to hold onto his entitlements and self delusional visions of adequacy, he would have to support the throne speech.
Surely he knows Bob Rae, Iggy and “the family” over at Power corp will throw him under the first bus, after he loses the election only he, right now, can stop.
I’m crystal balling that with only his own self interest in mind, Steffi chugs it down with a smile.

  21. Interesting times indeed.
I noticed that one of DeYawn’s friends – Jason Cherniak – has decided to shut down his blog today. I wonder if the LIEberals finally got hold of him and told him he is not helping the LIEberal Party. He acts like a LIEberal, with his censoring of all input on comments, yet like a LIEberal, he is accepting his censored “Praises” very well indeed. This is terrible news, how will I be able to get that job carrying his suitcase when he is appointed Senator? (I do not think he will give up the blog though, it gives him a sense of input into the leadership of the LIEberal Party.)
As for the things the Conservatives want to implement, it would take a Separatist, NDP and LIEberal person to see that it would be good for Canada and vote against the Throne Speech.
I guess DeYawn will parachute his friends and quota of women into ridings without the input of grass roots like he did in Quebec. I hope the same thing happens with the LIEberals as with the “Old” Conservative Party – two seats. They have lost the support of the average intelligent voter – that is why there are about 30% who still hope they will get back into power – who will vote for the RAG [RED (LIEberal) And GREEN] Party; the NDP or Conservatives. I heard that the LIEberals who moved to Alberta to work are finally seeing what the LIEberals were like. Their eyes and ears are open to a different opinion, rather than the center of the universe, and hopefully convince their “friends” not to vote LIEberal in the next election. Lets have an election as soon as possible.

  22. The Libranophile MSM has not yet turned on him.
We’ll know he is duck soup when CTV and the Red Star finally plunge the political knife into his back.

  23. I have never enjoyed watching a throne speech so much!!
The best part was listening to the GG gagging on her words while her left wing nut ‘mari’ clawed at the furniture. Meanwhile the Prime Minister sat solid and dignified and did not once recognize the obvious vulgar distaste for her job that GG was not classy enough to disguise.
The Prime Minister smiled politely and thanked her after her little ‘performance’. To borrow the title of an old book about a different man from a different time: “Now Brother, There’s a Man!”

  24. Trouble is, Dion seems like a decent man.
That should have automatically disqualified him from leadership of the Liberals.

  25. I posted this on the tips thread earlier, but it seems appropriate here.
On CKNW in Vancouver this AM, Bill Good’s show, he had a phone-in poll: If an election today, who would you vote for, and why?
    Cons – 29
    Libs – 3
    NDP – 2
Green – 2 (one said cons are second choice)
Canada Action Party – 1 (was very worried about the impending North American Union)
    Abstain – 1

  26. Personally I think it would be a lot more fun if the Conservatives achieve all their Throne speech goals with a minority…But that’s just me!!!

  27. Can anybody get a shot of the ‘iggy’ interview where he has that unbelievable ‘sh*t eating’ grin on his face as if he’d just won the lottery. Maybe he’s just let the ‘puffin’ out of the bag. Perhaps we will see an election before Christmas and a new Liberal leadership race for next Easter, how appropriate would that be!

  28. “Harper should have bought out her term as soon as he took office and arranged an appointment to that office for someone who had the gravitas and the credentials to occupy it.”
    Don Cherry, baby!
    (Chant with me now…)
    Grapes! Grapes!
    We want Grapes!

  29. So, if they get rid of the long gun registry, they will also destroy the database containing that information, correct?
    /crickets

  30. ‘Just read the National Post: even it let Dion off the hook re his non appearance last night. The paper just pointed out that he has some tough decisions to make. (Not a mention either of the GG’s non-regal slouch and haughty demeanor.)
A Conservative majority can’t happen soon enough!

  31. Re the GG’s performance (or lack thereof), for a TV journalist, she sure delivered a lacklustre reading of the Throne Speech. I’m sure an A-Channel TV newsreader could have done as well or better. She & her husband are an insult to the position. They could at least try to look dignified, ie, sit up straight, don’t slouch – you know, the things your mom told you. And Mark, I don’t care if she looks/dresses sexy – this isn’t a Canadian version of Real Housewives of Orange County. She’s representing the Crown in Canada.

  32. Another throne speech… another law and order/justice bill on the docket…still no repeal of the duck gun registry or the federal criminalization of duck hunters….Meanwhile In morOntario McSleazy’s evil flying monkey Bryant is make noises about locking up target shooters and stealing their pistols to cure a Jamacian drug gangster culture.
Is this CPC member written policy directive to REPEAL the gun registry forgotten or is Harper’s recent loss of fear of mewling opposition hoplophobic zealots still not total.

  33. Even better than watching Dion squirm is watching Elizabeth May’s about face. Harper just announced the death of Kyoto and Elizabeth May says there is no reason to go for an election over this. Huh!?!?!
No wonder the Liberals are trying to kill Dion. Seems like he’s the leader of two parties right now.

  34. Sorry, Sean, as much as I like Grapes for who he is, he’s not the right person for GG office either. Still, he’d be better than what’s there now, and he’d relate better to the average Canuck.

  35. Skeptic: you didn’t like Jean’s “reading performance”? Here’s what I wrote on my site:
First of all, I have to admit I didn’t watch it. I started to, but then I couldn’t handle MichaĂ«lle Jean’s raping of the English language. You’d think that for all the money she receives from taxpayers, she would have taken the time to practise reading the speech in front of a mirror at least once. Instead, it looked like an embarrassing Raise A Reader moment.

  36. Listened to the CBC this morning. They were wondering who the little people in the front were. Someone explained it was the justices of the Supreme Court.
They actually gave credit for presenting the speech live so actual citzens could hear it BEFORE the talking heads put the spin to it. It seems to really upset the press they don’t get that 8 second sound bite.

  37. Liberals to bite the bullet on throne speech
Toronto Star Confirms National Newswatch Report: National Newswatch has learned that the buzz circulating among Liberal insiders this hour on Parliament Hill indicates the Liberal Party will not defeat the government on the throne speech. …-
Outreacher MEmemememMeMe is a warmonger; wants War:
MP Garth Turner calls for WAR
Regular readers will be unsurprised to hear I argued in caucus Tuesday for war. You know why….-

  38. Warning! Since any reference to a noose is now a “hate” crime in the US now, I’m sure the picture of Dion trying to “scarf” himself might bring down the PC police.
