I was scouring Publications Canada looking for evidence of egregious statism when I came across this report:
http://www.swc-cfc.gc.ca/pubs/pubspr/0662324315/index_e.html
The 1997 Canada Pension Plan Changes: Implications for Women and Men
Adil Sayeed
Here’s what the abstract says:
(August 2002) Results from the federal government’s CPP simulation model are presented showing that the contribution and benefit changes announced in 1997 disadvantage women relative to men.
Now, here are the numbers:
Table 1: Impact of CPP Changes on Representative Cohort Born in 1979
CPP: Pre-1997 Rules
Women
Benefit/Cont. Ratio 2.62
Men
Benefit/Cont. Ratio 1.34
CPP: New Rules
Women
Benefit/Cont. Ratio 2.56
Men
Benefit/Cont. Ratio 1.36
Summary: Guys still contribute nearly twice as much as women for the same pension benefit, but the new system is only marginally less fair to men, so SWC is up in arms. Even accounting for demographic differences (life expectancy) which may explain some discrepancy between the sexes this is hugely inequitable. But equality doesn’t seem to matter to feminists when it comes to paying their fair share of CPP contributions.
More egregious statism: Canada has the highest immigration rate in the world and the highest population growth rate in the G8, but you wouldn’t know it from reading this apalling Canadian Press report:
cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2007/08/31/4461533-cp.html
“Flaherty told to shake up immigration system
By TERRY PEDWELL
OTTAWA (CP) – Canada needs to take a fresh approach to immigration if it wants to avoid worsening labour shortages, the federal finance minister has been told.
…
Attracting and retaining skilled workers from abroad was a key issue at a private, invitation-only forum held near Ottawa last week with Jim Flaherty and Canadian business leaders and academics.
More than two dozen people from all walks of Canadian life – universities, big banks, Bay Street, authors and environmentalists – met for two days in Merrickville in Eastern Ontario.”
And every one of them is full of crap. Here comes the money shot that I just knew was coming:
One way of attracting and retaining workers is to provide incentives for non-Canadian students to enter Canadian universities.
Canadians paying the tuition of non-Canadians who may or may not stay in Canada when they are finished school. Actually two thirds of them currently leave, as the article notes.
If you are a smart person and recognize that this is a scam, then don’t make the same mistake that America made with illegal aliens by waiting until it is too late: contact Jim Flaherty now and tell him you’d rather not have your tax dollars paying the tuition for people who aren’t even our fellow citizens.

curious thing these right wing conservatives;
Tony Blair the brit labour PM supported bush 100 % but is ridiculed for continuing down the heavy socialist-big govt path resumed post-thatcher.
speaking of muggles maggie; she of the ‘rights of the individual trump rights of the collective’ shafted Hong Kong residents wholesale in 1995, a full 2 years before the end of the 99 year lease. Deng Xio Peng dismissed her with a ‘who is that COW they sent?’
back to this side of the atlantic, recollect how kimmy kim campbell failed to sense the mood of the country having been too excited at ‘winning’ the conservative leadership at the time. and suffered the biggest electoral loss in all cdn political history.
dief the chief will go down in history a century from now as the leader who destroyed unity in his party fighting to the bitter end clinging to power. and who pioneered the PMO as a ‘one man show’.
interesting, no? how conservatives are so willing to eat their young, in public no less.
to them its ALL about power, all the time.
*
“tsktsk wrote… to them its ALL about power, all the time.”
Of course, otoh…
Is this a really bad piece of writing, or is Stéphane Dion simply off his medication?
” — ST. JOHN’S — Liberals continued Wednesday to sabre-rattle about a possible
fall election even as they admitted they could use more time to woo voters.
“Leader Stéphane Dion said Liberals don’t want an election, but won’t hesitate to
vote against a bad Throne Speech this fall, even if it means toppling the
minority Tory government.”
““We want this Parliament to work,” he told reporters on his way into a Liberal
caucus retreat to plot strategy for the fall.”
It sounds to me as though Dion hasn’t the faintest idea what he wants. I’ve heard
more coherent strategy on promos for “Who’s Smarter than a Fifth Grader?”
No wonder Garth Turner thinks he’s got a shot at the Liberal Leadership.

Update: All pork Thursday has evolved into a wonderful event. Coupled with a cold beer, and nice big kiss from my dog, I think it will be a regular part of my week.. As well, those PIGskin moccasins are feeling mighty comfy. On a side note, all 3 of my daughters are progressing nicely with their non-religious crackpot dating rituals, looking very pretty, advancing their education, still have their clitoris’ intact, wearing the latest fashions and are determining their own destiny’s. One has to love the freedoms that men like myself and my family have secured for North American women!
Is tsktsk really jeff davidson? The inane observations, lack of capitalization and constant need for attention remind me of that late and unlamented poster.

“dean said… Is tsktsk really jeff davidson?”
couldn’t possibly be jeffy… he’d never find the time while
his own blog is being swamped with visitors.

Came across this fascinating article on al Qaeda in Iraq.
It is a long but readable and very informative journey through the historical roots of Islamic fascism (in and outside of Iraq), the current status of the war on terror with an emphasis on Iraq, and some specific recommendations.
In particular, the author gives fascinating insight into what motivates the latent infatuation exhibited by the western atheist left for Islamic fascism.
NO Consensus: Only 38% of Published Scientists Endorse Climate Change Theory

Remember neo – how Dion last year told the press and the Canadian public that the Liberals would reject Harper’s forthcoming budget – EVEN BEFORE it had been tabled in parl’t. That is – he was rejecting it without reading it!
But – note what the Liberals are gearing up to do:
– insist on a ‘unilateral withdrawal from a multilateral NATO/UN mission’ (h/t Andrew Coyne)
– insist on an ‘unattainable 35% reduction in greenhouse gases in one year – despite having done zilch in the ten years since THEY signed the Kyoto aggreement
– insist on federal bailouts of private companies (eg – auto industry)
– promote Hebron – a flip from their previous rejection – and – one must note that its operation would be impossible under their Kyoto obligations
– promote the auto-industry, another illogical stance – given their insistence on that one year Kyoto reduction of 35% greenhouse gases
And – they’ve decided on a new logo for themselves: the puffin – which sweeps its dirt under the table
– and a new acronym for themselves. As Dion pointed out at the Liberal ‘retreat’ – the acronym ABC means “anyone but conservative’ and he suggested a new acronym for the Liberals;
LFC or ‘Liberals For Canada’. I suggest a substitution of the ‘F’ with the ‘f’ word.
Meanwhile, the MSM press are girding themselves for battle – faithful Liberal followers that they are – and we have one stalward lady refusing to interview Stephen Harper. The fact that she hasn’t been asked to do so…oh well.
The others in the cabal – Travers, Taber, Weston, Newman, Oliver etc etc…will all carry on as usual, with their ‘Harper-Bashing’. The current scheme seems to be to try to set him up as ‘cold and aloof’. Heh – the real reason is that they, the MSM gang, want a PM who treats them as The Hidden Gov’t. After all – they’ve been around longer than the PM; they feel they are ‘entitled to their entitlements’ – ie, to respect and deference.
And that’s the real problem with the MSM; they want respect and deference from these ‘come by chance’ politicians. When they don’t get it, they become quite vicious.
However, the MSM is no longer the only voice; thank god for the internet and blogs.
Fifi Dion wants parliament to work but only if they let him tell the governing party what to do otherwise he’ll vote against them to go to an election.
What a condescending little Pr**k.
Time to call his bluff, let the voters have at him and tell him and his Puffins to puff off, hide their crap, whatever.
The Taliban claim that S. Korea paid 20 million for the release of the hostages; S. Korea denies this. I presume the Taliban released them..heh..out of the kindness of their hearts, which makes one question the functionality of kidnapping them in the first place.
Therefore – a ransom was paid. The Taliban state that they will use it for more arms and equipment to carry out more ‘suicide missions’.
My point is that – just as happened when Marxist ideology and its agenda of world domination fell apart,..and the money from Moscow and Beijing dried up… the guerilla groups, eg in S. and Central America, turned from being ‘Ideological Revolutionaries To Free The Oppressed People’ – to being just plain simple criminal thugs.
And, likewise, the Maoists/Marxists ex-revolutionaries have turned to criminality to support themselves. The ideology is rapidly falling apart in the ME. It’s still alive in the safe havens of the leftist west in academic; in the safe havens of the left MSM, in the safe havens of the welfare-dependent multicultural funded Muslims of the West.
BUT – in the ME, the ideology has rapidly disintegrated. The ex-warriors of Peace and Enlightenment can’t readily move into jobs in the civic economy. So- they’ve become big time criminals. And, as in the S.and C. America – the ex-revolutionary economy is based around: drugs and kidnappings-for-ransom.
I suspect we’ll see a lot more of this in the ME. The ME has to take charge – because the ideological revolution has moved into pure criminality.
Now – in the West – we have left an ideological revolution that is pure theory. The actual lands of the ME – are slowly, laboriously, with tremendous in-fighting between the old tribes, the old loyalties, the old barter-or-kill economy – the ME is moving into the modern era. That means democracy, a civic rather than tribal governance, a market rather than barter economy and, a necessity to collaborate with Others.
In the West, however, since this system already exists – the Islamic fascist ideology will move into pure theory – akin to communism. The key difference, however, that might trip up the West – is multiculturalism. Communism is an economic and social theory and can’t be accomodated readily within multiculturalism. The problem with islamic fascism – is that it is also an economic and social theory BUT, BUT, it is disguised within an ethnicity and religion. So, we weaklings of the West – might readily accept and accomodate its tenets – because of that – whereas communism remains locked safely away in the seminar rooms.

I read in a newspaper the other day (perhaps the NP), that the CRTC has licenced another speciality channel and all cable/satellite subscribers are going to be paying 20 cents extra a month for it. The reason for it is that the CRTC doesn’t want these people to be excluded. It’s all about inclusiveness. The name of the new TV channel, you ask? BLIND TV. Yes, a TV channel for the blind.
Anyone else heard about this or is someone pulling my leg?
ratfuc:
I heard the same thing. I don’t think they were pulling your leg. It’s September 1 not April 1.
This Harper is an aloof bully crap has been perpetrated from day one. It has been mythmaking at its best, as if Harper’s behaviour, such as controlling the message, is unprecendented.
It is not. The entire federal govenment, it seemed, was run from Chretien’s PMO, and all policy was viewed from the lense of ensuring Liberal political power (I’m sure there were some exceptions).
The Liberals have a whole bunch of problems that Travers and the gang will not be able to save them from. They’re not in power anymore, and that makes it more difficult to control the message. They don’t have the money to do it anynore. They are still trapped in their power policy mode, so they are incapable of formulating coherent policy, everything must go through the lens of gaining power. They don’t get to make idiotic comments and get away with it (I put pepper on my steak, the proof is the proof, and so on). They don’t get to wag their fingers at the Conservative because they are the ones in power, in the driver’s seat. Finally, their leader cannot communicate with Canadians, he is incoherent (I don’t actually mean his English which is quite bad, but so was Chretien’s, and he managed just fine).
Put all that together and Liberals have no chance with Dion, and the A-team is sitting out the next election so, no organization either.
That’s why Lib supporters apoplectically raging at any slight, and desperately trying to invent “scandals.” Let them blow off steam, like huffing puffing and bluffing defeating government and forcing election.
this is a thank-you to Mississauga Matt and Aaron on another thread who valiantly tried to point these facts out to ET. Many of you may have already read this article by Joseph Farah – an American Arab.
There are so many lies told about how the Jews stole the land of “ancient Palestinians” that it is now religious dogma for some.
I have said it before and I will say it again – Palestinian nationalism is this generation’s version of “the Jews killed Jesus” – it is this generation’s ideology that legitimizes Jew-bashing and the murder of Jews.

Brenda Cohen (ex-liberal; yes I am a Jew)
my point, neo, is that the population base of Islamic fascists isn’t going to disappear that rapidly – an attrition due to, as you suggest, war. Or – as the possibly naive suggest, by ‘seeing the light’ and becoming ‘legitimate’.
Those who are in the movement, in the ME, are becoming more and more, outsiders, and I suggest will – as the Maoist/Marxist ex-revolutionaries did – will move into the criminal sector of the society. They’ll kidnap for money; they’ll move big time into drugs.
Those who are in the movement in the West, are becoming more abstracted and alienated from reality. They live almost entirely in a fictional world of their own creation – the rabid marxist, maoist type. And, now the rabid islamic fascist – which, as I said, is more sinister in the West because it is aligned with a religion. And the West has a ‘hands-off’ approach to religion and multiculturalism. The West has to reject this..and hopefully, the movt will reduce to a peripheral level. [It won’t ever disappear; it will just reduce to a small statistic.]
Brenda Cohen/ex-liberal. I stand by my views on Israel-Palestine. I reject the occupation and the settlements and reject the various ‘myths’ (the myth of the empty land; the myth of the inadequate farming techniques justifying takeover; the myth of ‘god gave it to us’; ;the myth of historic First Footstep’ etc. I guess we’ll just have to ‘agree to disagree’.
Dion is going to force an election over the environment and Pablo’s grandstanding bill on Kyoto?
Sure he is. Harper will wipe his ass with the bill and hurl it across the house at Dion and Layton. That will be pretty funny.
I imagine they will both huff and puff about all manner of things, then Harper will correct a spelling mistake or two and Dion and Layton will crow about how they saved Canada again.
Peter Mansbridge will gravely intone something or other and try to sound important.
Jim Travesty will wander off on a tangent and bump his head and fall down.
Jane Taber, (Tuber?) will smile and giggle a whole bunch.
Craig Oliver’s eyes will grow closer together.
Mike Puffy will do whatever the hell it is that he does, it certainly isn’t journalism.
And there will be no fall election unless the liberal braintrust wants to throw Dion to the lions to get rid of him.
Then Puff Iggy will get his second chance.
Stan, do believe you’ve been paying attention!
Hate to ruin everybody’s party, but can anybody tell me what is important about this date,September 01st? Just curious. And let’s up it. September 02nd?

also, “Yes, a TV channel for the blind.”
is it at *all* possible ratfuc, in your black and white world, there are boundaries beyond which there are those with marginal and partial sense of sight deemed legally BLIND (as in BLIND TV) but who can still very much and gratefully use what sight they do have?
in a world of 20,000 satellite, cable, web, and broadcast as well as stored media archives and gawd knows what else, we can come up with *one* specialty channel for these folks?

Why do so many Canadians think they can control the US border on BOTH sides?
Just read some of the comments…
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20070830/border_business_070830/20070901?hub=Canada
Then read this…
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/travel/2003860963_canadaslump02.html
Everyone, just understand- get a passport. The border is there, and will be enforced. Canadians have no inherent right to cross to the US, and vice versa.
Get a passport, or stay home.
Question to Cohen and Grigsby:
What do you call a Lawyer on Mars?
… still too close!
Yes. I stole the joke… (thanks wlmckenzie redux.)
CBC News has webbed an AP report claiming that “More than 1,800 Iraqi civilians died in August”.
Might as well have fun picking it apart:
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2007/09/01/ap-iraq.html
CBCpravdas report does not mention that only 6 months ago they told the world that over 600000 Iraqis had died. something they had estimated with the help of the Lancet. appears there have been a few hundred thousand resurrections.
Dion really wants to bring down the Conservative government this fall and Afstan will serve the purpose. They will have to act soon, after all Iggy let the campain slogan out of the bag early.
PUFFIN POO FOR ALL!
(just flap your arms real fast)
Sounds like a real winner there Steffie… run with it.
Wikileaks, a site for whistleblowers, has leaked a secret report on looting by ex-president Moi of Kenya — and possibly altered the outcome of an impending national election. Moi has become a key player in political life in Kenya, and is now an essential pillar in President Kibaki’s campaign for re-election in December 2007. From the Wikileaks page: ‘The suppressed auditor’s report reveals that currency worth billions of US dollars was looted from Kenya by President Moi and his associates. The money was laundered across the world and includes properties and shell companies in London, New York and South Africa and even a 10,000 hectare ranch in Australia.'”
Just one more reason I’m against any aid to the African kleptocracies – what doesn’t get used to build up military strength gets stolen.
A SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS?
While flipping through the print edition of The Globe and Mail on Saturday, I glanced at an article that was titled, “Why men really do prefer blondes.”
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20070901.EVOLUTION01/TPStory/?query=muslims
The first line of the article reads, “Have you ever wondered why virtually all suicide bombers are Muslim?”
The thing is, the rest of the fluff piece actually deals with why rich guys get all the babes, why women like to gossip, how the Tarzan/Jane model really drives everything we do, and so forth.
Nowhere does the article even hint along the lines of “Have you ever wondered why virtually all suicide bombers are Muslim?”
I am not a conspiracy kind of guy, but could you EVER imagine the Globe and Mail printing the line “Have you ever wondered why virtually all suicide bombers are Muslim?”….let alone for a fluff column like this one?
I wonder who the saboteur was?
B.T.W. Why ARE virtually all suicide bombers Muslim?
Tsk. I don’t give a rats rectum how many channels are dedicated to the blind. Perhaps thay should have a specialty radio channel for the deaf as well.
My beef is that I, and every other cable/sattelite subscriber in Canada will be forced to pay for it. I believe in a free-market system. If enough vision impaired are anxious to have a specialty channel then they should be able to attract enough advertising revenue to finance it. If not, why should we who will never access it have to pay for it? A society that tries to please everyone ends up pleasing none.
And yes, I know a legally blind person very well and he thinks it’s stupid that everyone should bear the brunt of the cost when it will only benefit a few.
