Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

If Mr. Know-It-All’s become a GW supporter in his latter years, his head’s going to explode trying to reconcile those two stories: “More moose good, more moose bad….” Which leaves poor old Bullwinkle in an awkward position… if he notices.
By the way, I love the stunning leap of logic in the Gauthier story: “They suggest global warming could be a contributing factor,” becomes: “This is a real world example of the added impact of a warming climate.” Could & contributing = is.
Think of it as moosicide.
What’s a lefty to do?
Moose cause global warming, but hunting is evil.
So obviously the moose can’t continue as is, maybe we could train them to purchase offsets for their “emissions”.
This is the shite Ontarians have been getting for the past decade since the MNR stopped hiring wildlife biologists who actually hunt or fish or grew up in areas where this was the culture. The MNR is infected with a lot of urban activist types who really need to get out of the office more.
One of the greatest visible declines in civil service to politicization has been the MNR…which is now filled with Urban pink prohibitionists rather than conservasionists. Even the fish cops give you commie attitude….I have taken my hunting and fishing dollars out of the province for this reason….Ontario has some big moose but they aren’t worth the political hassels…Manitoba Moose are tastier anyway. 😉
Why a moose decline? It’s right here:
“McAughey said several well-known natural factors brought on by increasing deer numbers contribute to the decline of moose populations such as brainworm”
White tail are infinging on Moose territory and there are incompatibility diseases…..as for heat stress….Moose spend most of their time in water in the summer escaping flies….Global warming affecting Moose pops?…pffffftt…where do they recruit these “wildlife biologists”? Rosedale? Mississauga? or, ewww, Hamilton? They sure as hell never lived in moose country.
Liberal wackos went up in aglacer in europe naked to call attention to global warming. HEY ROCKY WATCH ME PULL A RABBIT OUT OF MY HAT. BUT THAT TRICK NEVER WORKS. THIS TIME FOR SURE, NUTTIN UP MY SLEEVE(PULLS SLEEVE OFF)PRESTO PULL OUT ROCKY. WELL IM GETTIN CLOSE
Thanks for the morning chuckle, Kate. Maybe you can lend me a few pesos to help dry-clean the coffee stains out of my shirt.
I counted three “may be” and one “seems” as qualifiers in the first article. But, by journalism standards they are ignorable, the metanarrative stays intact, more proof that GW is frying moose thanks to evil mankind.
If you had half of a brain, both articles should have died when the writers analyzied them as speculative at best. But, hey, got to meet the GW quota for the editors.
I’m starting a carbon-offsets company — Mooseair. Instead of planting trees, I will be partnering with moose hunters. You can rest assured that for every 13,000 km you drive, a setoff moose will offset your emissions.
And here’s the good part.
The hunters would have killed the moose anyway, so you won’t have to feel bad about that — just like many of the carbon offset schemes that people pay into — they’re projects that would have happened anyway.
Moose are doing fine in Newfoundland, especially on the west coast around Corner Brook.
This caught my eye when I read the first story,
“The MNR’s latest population estimates for Wildlife Management Unit 6 – north of the CN Railway tracks”
I know the tracks have been there for some time but could this be considered “natural factor” for their decline. Has train traffic increased / decreased? I’m sure trains kill lots every year but no mention in the story. As WL Mack suggests too many city folks being hired instead of experts that grew up in the back country.
And you just know that if we had an unusually cold year, they would be blaming that on declining populations of animals too. “Freezing temperatures are killing their young” would be the headline. And it would still be because of “climate change.”
Buffalo Bill — an environmentalist ahead of his time.
…here mooosie mooosie
WLMR:
Manitoba Moose are tastier anyway
I would think you have to extra carefull to get all the sticks & blades before you eat them. :p
http://www.moosehockey.com/
the population estimates for 2007 are a paltry 650 moose, a significant drop since their 2004 estimate of 1,700 moose.
yeah and how much of that is because a group has infinite hunting rights?
Why should the pro-AGW crowd like Gore be the only ones making money off this? Someone has got to start a T-shirt company that makes fun of the hysterics. Just think of all the different ways you could have fun with a “Climate Change Made Me Do It” caption under cartoon pictures.
Uh,oh my evil capitalist profiteer side is showing. Quick, were can I buy some indulgences ..er carbon offsets… to assuage my guilt.
.
.
They may be onto something here …
Look what elephant farts have done to Africa!
.
.
Before 1990 I never heard of any moose in our local area.
Then about 1990 they started appearing and are still here in small numbers.
Tracks across the fields all the time.
I even asked if anyone had ‘planted’ moose in the area but was told that they were here on their own, and they had probably COME SOUTH across the North Sask river.
Probably because it was too cold for the moose up north, eh?
And there is nothing wrong with the sex drive of these moose, judging by the number of twins.
That’s still not as weird as seeing an ANTELOPE at the Tofield intersection on Hiway 16 just east of Edmonton many years ago.
I know what an antelope is because we chased them in a community pasture near the South Sask river when I was a kid.
We also have more bears and cougars in the area.
Gee, I wonder the global warming wackos planted them here?
Indians blasting from their pickups in the spring summer fall and winter at everything that moves.
That doesn’t have anything to do with it.
Ask any local hunter in that district what the problem is.
Freedom From Oil says;
1) A Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle with at least a 40 mile range in its battery
2) Recharged with electricity powered by residential rooftop solar.
The only one with a roof big enough is Albert Gore. And it may only get you half way around the golf course.
Remember these moose people are the same ones who are telling us Polar bears can;t swim.
Where are a’Damn and manuel? Obviously picking pieces of their skulls and brains up off the floor. This is the kind of story that makes Gaia worshippers heads explode.
Researchers have figured out that a great way to fund their work is to tie in some sort of global warming connection. Billions of dollars are being poured into GW research and everybody wants their piece of the pie.
I’ve always been worried by the danger of moose farts.
Rangers have told me stories that in parts of Northern Ontario whole forests have burned down because of the massive methane clouds generated by moose – when some idiot comes along and lights a match – many people don’t realize that it’s not just dry wood that causes bans on camp fires up north – it’s the real danger of moose farts.
When I was a kid I went to the Winnipeg zoo and one of the camels let out a massive fart.
At the time I thought it was hilarious, but little did I know it was ruining the planet.
I suspect the moose problem there having in ontario is the same as it is here in new brunswick,to many indian taking the hind quarters and leaving the rest to rot.they hunt year round and shoot everything that moves.
“Ministry of Natural Resources researchers ‘speculate’… ‘may’…’suggest’…’could’…
,,,climate change ‘has been noticeable’ in recent years and ‘may’ be ‘partially’ to blame…
And that is only in the first three sentences.
“This is a real world example of the added impact of a warming climate,” said McAughey.
Only in the minds of those desperately trying to convince themselves they haven’t been duped by the Gore/Suzuki marketting machine.
Thank you Kate for helping further expose the bewildering lack of scientific method these pro-Kyoto propagandists dutifully practice.
As per the moose exhaust…I think it is high time we replaced the worlds herds with Toyota Priuses.
lol liberals and the ndp give off twice as much gas than any moose could.
lol liberals and the ndp give off twice as much gas than any moose could.
sry for the double post.
…moose farts? That must explain those swamp gas thingies UFO types are talking about.

DAILY Mail editors. Confuse your readers by claiming that asylum seekers are the natural predators of paedophiles.
There’s only one thing to do – Notify Boris and Natasha.
Notify Boris and Natasha, Bullwinkle and Rocky.
Man, talk about flashbacks to my youth.
Miss those days, when global warming was global cooling and we were worried about freezing our butts off.
Now we have to buy fart credits…
AGW has become slapstick at it’s best.
Coming to a comedy club near you, soon.
“Researchers have figured out that a great way to fund their work is to tie in some sort of global warming connection.” This is exactly the point made by that one professor in Great GW Swindle . . . only then he said he was duped into participating. I thought this too bad, since the point made a lot of sense. He looked quite fooling once he started back-pedalling on something so obviously true.
Aside from the asinine attempt to use the OMNR moose count to support their AGW propaganda ….
The report itself is for a fairly limited area.
WMU 6 and 7a /7b are the southwest corner of the larger region around Lake of the Woods or Kenora district representing about 1/5 of that region in area. However the significant water coverage of the area means less actual habitat for moose so that means the study area is more like 1/6 of the Kenora District. Given that the other districts are more than 20 times the land area there is a lot more counting to be done before any conclusions are drawn about the overall population.
This is sort of like saying that because it’s hot and sunny in Regina today that the prairies are having a drought and it’s caused by AGW!
If I was the MNR guy McAughey I’d be concerned about my bosses seeing this BS….
So the mooses(or is that meeses?) are dying out in Northern Ontario because of GW? Funny that. Based on the cow and her two calves that wandered through my front yard two days ago, sure isn’t much of a shortage of ’em here in southeast Edmonchuck. My Golden Retriever couldn’t even get them to move along any faster. Maybe Bullwinkle and his relatives are just getting smarter, and are fleeing the leftards/dippers in Ontario!
“Rocky and His Friends”, loved that show!
Now the world is full of “Dudley Do-rights”, desperately trying to save us from ourselves, “I’ll save you, Nell”!
Groan.
I feel much better now! Considering I only drive about 7000 km a year the ol’ moose has a bigger footprint than me!
I think that we can safely offer the moose that live here in Southern Alberta as breeding stock to the endangered mooses in the article.
This summer we only hit 38 degrees for several days in a row, those meeses survived and even managed to somehow reproduce more micro-mooses to wander along highway 36 by the Red Deer. I saw no evidence of heat stressing, mind you, I didn’t ask the malodorous, overgrown swamp donkey nor its bastard offspring if they were stressed. Judging by the lack of interest they showed in me however, I would say that stress was not a word that lept to my mind.
They can have as many as they want. Ours are global warming proof.
None.
W.L. Mac, Hamilton is deer country these days. I had to put up a fence to keep the b*st*rds from crapping on my back lawn.
Bears sighted in Dundas.
Large wild boars in Flamboro township (not lying, my brother knows a guy shot one.)
Hunt them? What are you, a Conservative?!!!
Is it true that Amish communities have signs warning people not to step in the ‘exhaust’ of their vehicles?
The drop in moose population is probably more connected to flying squirrels… damn, I loved that show too.
