Heil Hezbollah (bumped)

When the concept of “multiculturalism” was introduced to Canadians, most assumed it meant “more pavilions at Folkfest”.

UPDATE – the billboard’s backers defend their actions. (Nasrallah. Jesus. What’s the difference, really?) … and plenty of reaction from the paper’s readers. (scroll to bottom)
Update 2 – Reader “Geothermal” posts this email in the comments:

Hello,
Your comments have been forwarded to the Mayor’s office. Please note, the billboard has been removed as of this morning.
Thank you for using 311.

  1. Re: Talitubby (good one!)
“‘Talk about grandstanding.” We stayed as far to the right of him as possible…
    BATB, intended or not, LOL.

  2. MND: Talitubby Laydown was actually on our left as we walked east on the Danforth. I wanted to yell out at the top of my lungs, “Yea, Stephen Harper!” But my daughters gave me the hairy eyeball and said, “DON’T YOU DARE!”
    Hey, I value my life… 😉

  3. Me No Dhimmi – I’m not sure if you saw a previous post of mine… reason why in Brussells you can’t demonstrate against 9/11 is that 10 of 18 members in city council of the ruling party (Social Party).
Lots more on this issue at Gates of Vienna.
We can assume Windsor will be the first city in Canada to go that way.

  4. I know that “hairy eyeball” very well. My 37 and 34 year olds are home and no discussion of any current affairs are permitted even as I wine ‘n dine’ em. Even a reference to how unhappy Iranians are with the mullahs was met with stony silence. It’s a vast liberal conspiracy of silence in our household at the moment.

  5. OOPS, missing part of sentence…rather important one.
Me No Dhimmi – I’m not sure if you saw a previous post of mine… reason why in Brussells you can’t demonstrate against 9/11 is that 10 of 18 members in Brussels city council of the ruling party (Social Party) ARE MUSLIM.

  6. Lori:
Thanks for that info about Brussels city council.
Interesting how it is now just accepted that you have to apply for permission to hold a rally. So much for the “right of assembly”.

  7. Lori: Thanks for missing sentence fragment. I wondered about that. So 10 out of 18 Brussels council members are Muslim. Do Muslims have to apply for a demonstration license — you know the ones recomending beheadings of infidels and such? But again, why are they so sensitive: Muslims had nothing to do with 9/11.

  8. What’s meant when an organization is “banned” in Canada? It would seem that if Hezbollah is banned, then overt support such as this billboard should not be legal or allowed. The police should be involved.
Is anyone aware of the specificities of the law?

  9. I do hope someone with p/shop skill can insert Taliban Jacks smiling mug.
Whatever happened to the 17 mujahadeen? Because it might make ‘slums sad/mad, is that why it is in limbo? I’m surprised the ‘slums are not stirring a seethe about “justice delayed/justice denied ” and whining like tablesaws.

  10. I would like to see the billboard remain untouched by paintballs, fire, etc.
Then I would like to see a pro-Israeli billboard placed right across from this one in the same neighborhood.
THEN we’d see who would lose the battle of billboard intolerance.
It would be nice to turn the tables. If they defaced the billboard, then THEY would be the racist bastards. If the billboard stood, then maybe people could experience a little quiet satisfaction going the other way for a change.

  11. I just checked Census Canada 2001 to see if Windsor is indeed the Islamic capital of Canada. Nope.
    Toronto 5.5% Muslim
    Ottawa-Hull 4.0%
    Windsor 3.5%
    Montreal 3.0%
    Calgary 2.7%
    London 2.7%
    Vancouver 2.7%
Mind you these numbers have undoubtedly grown in the last six years as Islam is, by far, Canada’s fastest growing religion. Thank you, stupid immigration policies.

  12. Holy crap. We have an official terrorist organisation putting up public billboards in Canada?
    Two things must happen:
    1. Those responsible must be pursued by the authorities.
    2. I would never advocate spilling paint at such a height.

  13. The billboard: doesn’t actually mention Hezbollah by name I gather? And it does mention peace, etc. Loophole?
The billboard prominantly display Nasrallah’s portrait.

  14. One good thing about it, it is the end for the left here in Canada. The muslim terrorist, and their large support group living in Windsor have mistaken Canada’s generosity, kindness and tolerance, for stupidity. Canadians always walk softly but carry a great big mother of a stick. We will take our country back, and when we do, the muslim terrorist and their supporters will not dare raise their heads to look us in the eyes.

  15. Actually Honey Pot, I fear that enough Canadians are stupid, or don’t want to deal with these issues, that the Muslims will win. I have no optimism on this issue, only bitterness that our politicians have sold this country down the river.
Look at Europe – that continent is about to become an Orwellian nightmare of politically correct bureaucratic rule, and it’s capital city is dominated by Muslims. All voices that try to fight the tide are marginalized and made illegal in some way. How are we any different than them? What “Canadian principles” make us better able to resist… free healthcare? Timmy’s?
If Canada gets out of this mess, it will only be through some deep unpleasantness that will scar the country forever. But it all could have been avoided if the political whores in Ottawa cared about the future of their grandchildren more than about the next election.
    Maybe Australia…..

  16. Sound off comments from the Windsor Star:
“I as a Canadian Muslim of Lebanese descent living in Windsor find this billboard offensive. Not only this billboard, but also last summer’s billboard of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri. Please do not bring your divisive Lebanese politics to this country and specifically to my city. Do not use the Muslim name or the Lebanese community name for your politics. We do not support you or your ideology. Take the billboard down now!! Instead of bringing the dirty divisive and corrupt Lebanese politics to this country or city, you should be striving to improve the society in which you live and in which your children will live. If you want to support your Lebanese cause, you have the freedom to return to Lebanon to work for your cause. If you choose to make Canada your home, then work to make Canada a better place for all.” -Mohammed/Windsor
This isn’t the first time it’s happened in Windsor which I didn’t know, however a positive note, many in the Lebanese community share the same outrage as posters here, unfortunately they are mostly the Christian Lebanese who left Lebanon due to persecution from groups like Hell’s-Ebola.
I can’t believe how these fools could justify erecting such a billboard under the guise of “peace”. I mean use a dove, use mother/child; old man feeding a dove; anything else but the leader of a terrorist group and his cronies!!!
Judging by the article with the people who came up with the idea, and other like minded individuals, there is no way of reasoning with these folks and convincing them that Hezbollah is in fact a terrorist group; these people are the ones that scare me the most and should be sent back.

  17. Seems to me all this billboard lacks is a little thoughtful editing.
One could take an aerosol can of paint and write “Behold the face of Evil” across the relatively blank area above Nasrallah’s ugly mug.
Or if that’s too high to readily be reached, what about simply framing said ugly mug with cross-hairs?
Not that I would advocate civil disobedience or anything. Perish the thought.

  18. …what the heck is this about “freedom of speech”? Freedom of speech is not without boundaries.
For Freedom to be a reality there has to be rules and one of the rules is you don’t BS people. Another rule is keeping one’s opinion to oneself and not represent it as a whole.
I’d love to see how you folks would howl if Israel put up a sign saying look at all the civilians being killed or maimed by rocket attacks.
    Cowards!

  19. “…just by chance, this billboard doesn’t face Mecca does it?”
    [Posted by: tomax7 at August 12, 2007 11:30 AM]
Nope! It faces East Dearborn, Michigan.

  20. I woke up to this crap this morning as I get the Windsor Star delivered. My bloods boiling and I haven’t even had a coffee yet. I have the damn thing upstairs.
    Littlegreenfootballs has this posted also.
Canada needs to make itself a little more exclusive. Actually, a lot more exclusive. If our leaders were smart, we would ban all Muslim immigration and advertise Canada as a safe haven for Jews throughout Europe. Actually, we’ll take any Europeans seeking to flee the crap hole Europe is becoming.
Sorry for venting. Very bad morning. My friends and relatives just look at me funny when I tell them I can’t wait until World War Three starts.

  21. Infidel, I am seething also. Nothing in our paper, or the msm about Windsor being the Canadian enclave of hezzasshole terrorist, and its supporters. Pretty clear no one in a position of power in Canada wants to upset the hezzasshole terrorist, and its islamic supporters. Do we need to form another government party to protect Canada from becoming the place of choice for islamist terroist and their families to inhabit?

  22. Message sent to Stockwell Day, Canada Minister of Public Safety:
Hezbollah is an Islamic terrorist organization. Its publicly stated goal is the murder of Jews and the annihilation of Israel.
This billboard message is an incitement to the murder of Jews and the annihilation of Israel.
Minister Day: Tear down this billboard.
    Address:
    communications@ps.gc.ca

  23. Wake up, Canada!
If you allow advertising such as this, you are going to find people fighting the wars from their old countries in your streets.
Muslims, because they seem to insist on doing this, should be banned from immigrating into the West. I’ll grant you, many are only interested in a better life, but the problem is with the 20 percent who cause trouble. [That percentage is from the 80-20 rule of policing. 80 percent of the populace is no problem. It’s the other 20 percent.]

  24. Banning the advertising is not appropriate. Taking political action against those who did, such as publicizing it, organizing a letter writing campaign against CBS media (The billboard division) and their other advertisers is 100% appropriate.
Working to change the rules so that, I sure as heck hope not, a “charity” didnt pay for this.
All appropriate, but banning the speech would not be correct. It is up to Windsorites and CBS media, or Pattison or any other media cmpany to not just take the money from someone liek this. It is their right but larger issues should prevail.
Some Billboard salesman, some printing company made money off of this, they are legit targets as well for public scrutiny.

  25. Do you want me to drive to Windsor (6 hours?) to take that board down? Are there any people with guts in Windsor? OUR DEMOCRACY IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH SYSTEM ABUSING TERRORISTS – DO SOMETHING!

  26. Stephen that is an advertisment alright, an advertisment for the geonocide of the Jews, and a recruitment for islamist terrorist. I want you to think about it, we are talking hezzasshole terrorist here. Hessasshole terrorist who hide behind women and children to fight because every one of them are cowardly sneaky bastards. If they do that to their own people, just think what they have in store for us. Get those evil bastards and their spawn off our shores is what we should be demanding.

  27. Seeing this is nothing more than a so-called freedom of speech issue, why not errect another billboard along side this “Nasralla World Tour ’07” advertsiment? Something along the lines of a Star of David, with on of the pointy ends sticking into a cartoon of that pedophile Mohamed? Tit for tat, no?

  28. How about is they produce a poster showing BIN LADEN pointing out from it and saying WE WANT YOU, TO BE JIHADISTS i mean what else will they try? ahh the evils of muliculteralism

  29. One of the comments from the Windsor Star.   I’ve been born and raised in Canada but I am originally Lebanese and I am very offended when people can be so negative toward a billboard, it causes no one harm! I think people forget that it’s just paper on a board and it’s not going to jump off the paper and hurt anyone. The billboard means something to the Lebanese community, so don’t take it down over something that you see on TV or you hear, if you haven’t witnessed with your own eyes then don’t be so quick to judge. I think people should be more concerned about the billboards that promote alcohol and cigarettes because it’s things like that are ruining our youth and community   Perhaps you should tell that to the Muslims who rioted and killed people around the world over a couple of Danish cartoons.

  30. I’m still infuriated. LGF calmed me down a little. And here’s funny animal clips from YouTube for those that want to lower their blood pressure before we proceed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi9GOvR3Ynw
At comment 574 at LGF Miss Trixie, has provided some e-mail addresses at http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=26636_Terror_Supporters_Defend_Pro-Hizballah_Sign#comments
First off, I’m not going anywhere today and I’m so pissed off that I’m on my second beer. I just wanted to get that out into the open. My 7 years in the States apparently didn’t eradicate the Canuck in me. There’s a problem, let’s have a few beers and think about the situation.
Let’s get down to business. Let’s turn this into an advantage.
At LGF we started talking about letter-writing campaigns. From the post:

    re: #553 vxbush
    re: #546 Canadian Infidel
I’m trying to figure out how to request limiting Muslim immigration, increasing European (and Jewish immigration in particular) without coming off as well, kind of insane? Step one, I’m leaving out the fact that I am so ready for WW3 to be openly declared.

You know, I have the same problem. I want to write a letter to the editor of several papers, but I am greatly concerned about how it’s going to appear. It needs to be presented with facts, but I know that a lot of people just see facts as inconsistencies to their realities. So why would I write the letter? Whose opinion do I want to change? Those who can actually do something. Thus a letter would be better sent to the folks in local, province (state), and national governments.

I was going to comment that writing letters and phone calls are useless. But that isn’t so.
The immigration bill was stopped by a concerted effort of letters, e-mails and phone calls. Republicans officials being sent envelopes of fake Mexican money have definitely received a message.
I don’t think the usual 200 word ‘Letter to the Editor’ will suddenly act as a 2 by 4 against someone’s head and make them realise we are at war. For letters to be effective, we need volume. Something else has to be included though. I’m thinking that pictures of that 12 year old beheading the man might get some attention.
How many Canadians do we have here? Could you e-mail me?

    Back to my smalldeadanimals post:
We can turn this into an advantage without appearing racist. Why don’t we start a massive e-mail campaign asking for a complete halt against Muslim immigration? We will point out the benefits Britain, France, Denmark have all received from there Muslim immigrants.
Here’s the twist. Let’s tell the government the immigrants we do want. Canada should be a safe haven for Jews. We should also be a safe haven for Europeans wanting to flee the crap-hole Europe is becoming. Educated Indian Hindus should be most welcome here. As should educated Chinese, Jamaicans, Cubans, etc, etc, etc. THE TWIST IS, WE WANT TO ACCEPT ANYONE OF ANY COLOUR OR RELIGION. BUT IF THEIR RELIGION SAYS THAT I HAVE TO DIE BECAUSE I’M AN INFIDEL, WE DON’T WANT THEM
I think I’m like most of the other Canadians here. We like Indians, Jews, Chinese and most other minorities. But they don’t want us dead and societies are better off because of them. Try to name one country on this planet that can honestly say, they would be better off if they had a larger Muslim population.
E-mail me at ltourang69@yahoo.com if you want to try to turn this story into a win for our side.

  31. Honey Pot,
Maybe I am missing something but I don’t think thet have said anything that clearly. If the text in the ad does say that then my apologies there is appropriate Hate Crime legislation to deal with it.
Short of that do what is supposed to be done, leverage the media, leverage the advertisers and leverage the media company.
We have laws, use them. The problem with banning is tomorrow it will be your speech that is deemed unacceptable….
NAsarallah IS the head of a terrorist org…but putting up a sign with his face on it is hardly illegal, offensive yes, illegal no. You could put up a billboard with Hitler, Stalin, Saddam etc and be offensive but not be illegal.
Use the law and use the political process. Banning isnt the answer, never is. Hurt them in the pocketbook and hold them up to public shame. There isnt the support for this. I am sure CBS Media wouldnt be thrilled.
FInd out who the salesman was and get him to donate his commission to a Israeli charity if you want to really do something.

  32. What would be racist about condemning the endeavour of the genocide of the Jews by the Lebanese muslim hezzassholes? What is racist about wanting to protect ones country, and people, from the oppressive death cult of the islamist? The left can kiss my ass, I plan on fighting to protect Canada from becoming a warm and welcoming haven for islamist terrorist and its supporters.

  33. wonder if the Yanks are watching over the river for the newest Muslim enclave as Windsor is a bedroom community for Detroit.
when they change the name of Talbot Trail to Taliban trail even the Canajuns will take notice.

  34. I would never advocate spilling paint at such a height..
No, but lobbing paint bombs would do the trick. I’m disappointed in our vandalizing youth. Where are they when you need them?

  35. “I’m disappointed in our vandalizing youth. Where are they when you need them?”
    …BINGO!
They are whimps, just like the politicians. Both products of a decade of decay by Liberal airhead leftist mentality.
When the rubber hits the road they are no where to be seen.
Remember also, these are our future leaders of Canada.

  36. Woke up to an editorial which was a message to the U.S.: Free Kadhr. The MSM is really mad.
Now this billboard and this comment by a Lebanese:
“The billboard means something to the Lebanese community, so don’t take it down over something that you see on TV or you hear, if you haven’t witnessed with your own eyes then don’t be so quick to judge.”
So, is this another attack on the Joooooos? I think so. Who’d want to be walking in the skin of a Canadian Jew in this day and age? Too bad we don’t have a collection plate we could pass around and put up a SDA billboard.

  37. They heard us!
    Hello,
Your comments have been forwarded to the Mayor’s office. Please note, the billboard has been removed as of this morning.

Free speech is to be defended. Allowing advertising from the leader of a terrorist group that is responsible for 200 attacks since 1982 that have killed more than 800 people, is quite another thing indeed.
Easy solution. Windsor city should purchase space on the adjacent billboard to declare that Windsor City does not support the terrorist group Hezbollah.
After all, our own soldiers are dying in Afghanistan fighting terrorists.
Please do something. Show some spine and respect for peaceful Canadians.
    Sincerely

  38. Thank you geothermal.
We should still take this opportunity to protest all Muslim immigration.
How many Canadians do you think we saved from Lebanon last year?

  39. Excellent! I know that means the hezzasshole terrorist in Windsor are going to be upset and have to kill someone, but hey…I am glad the mayor of Windsor realized it would put a dent in tourism, Windsor being known as a terrorist town.

  40. I’m disappointed in our vandalizing youth. Where are they when you need them?
BINGO, ditto. From “affluent” west-side Vancouver where nearly every advert billboard, nearly every mailbox, nearly every commercial blank wall, nearly every mail box, nearly every bus stop shelter is covered in graffiti. Of course most of these are capitalist targets.

  41. I think that too many people will fall for this obvious trap. The supporters choose such a controversial figure for a purpose. It has nothing to do with peace and support for their Lebanese heritage since there would have been much more discreet ways to do this. It is entirely political. Of course, it is producing the desired reaction. Now they can highlight the resulting outrage as proof of Canadian racism and intolerance . Next, they will ask for funding and committees to study and recommend ways to help us Canadians be more accepting of their culture.
I find this billboard to be in extremely poor taste but there is nothing illegal about it. Free Speech is both a blessing and a burden
I would like the billboard to spark a discussion about immigrants bringing their homeland conflict and hatred to Canada, the self-ghettoising of immigrant groups, the growing influence of victim politics, the hypocrisy of progressiveness/political correctness and the failings of our current multicultural model.

  42. So Sharia law failed in Ontario.
    And now terrorist advertising.
    Well, well. I’m chuffed!
LynnH: I hear you, but you don’t want a “dialogue” with terrorists. “Dialogue” with terrorists legitimizes terrorism. That would be the trap. That’s the trap the “good genocidaires” Fatah sprung in Palestine as we help them fight the “bad genocidaires” of Hamas. That was the trap the monster Araf**k sprung.
    Dialogue, schmiologue.

  43. It is illegal to carry out acts of terrorism. The billboard was condoning terrorist and their actions. I saw the billboard as a recruitment for terrorist on our soil, and also as a threat to our country. It was the intent of the hezzasshole terrorist and their supporters to put fear in our communities. They wanted us to know that we are not safe from muslim terrorism here in Canada. Most of us already know this.

  44. Stephen, your post of 9:41
I don’t think it is possible for an advertising company to reject a request to do this. I clearly recall a printer in Toronto who refused to print Gay pamphlets because of his religious convictions. He was promptly found guilty of discrimination by the OHRC and forced to pay a fine. Sad but true…..
