Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Oh gosh, when will we be rid of those maniacs? All anyone has to do these days is turn on the TV to see women have respect, a lot of it and there are still dorks out there campaigning against sexism. That campaign already happened, and won! It’s like going back to the battle field after everybody’s gone home to nurse their wounds and looking for something to fight.
Looks like Harper is taking some lessons from the “Little Guy from Shawinigan” and is gonna be buying some votes from the Sheeple who are easily bought.
“I have no idea what that means”
For any transformation which is sufficiently diversified in application to be of any interest, most of the methodological work in modern linguistics is not to be considered in determining a corpus of utterance tokens upon which conformity has been defined by the paired utterance test. By combining adjunctions and certain deformations, the theory of syntactic features developed earlier may remedy and, at the same time, eliminate the system of base rules exclusive of the lexicon. Clearly, the fundamental error of regarding functional notions as categorial is unspecified with respect to an abstract underlying order.
I have no idea what that means
Translating for Normy Chopsticks ( all dim sum $2.00 all day everyday):
It means;
You want a piece of my heart
You better start from start
You wanna be in the show
Come on baby lets go
Stephen Harper’s working for the Majority
Cal nails it.
Nevertheless: I’ll say it now the feminazibots will, shrilling at the top of the lungs, say that it isn’t enough, and uhmmm … more, more, more.
There’s an encouraging piece in the Star that declares it’s all a “ploy”.

Stephan to the SOWs
Hey girl, is he everything you wanted in a man?
You know I gave you the world
You had me in the palm of your hand
So why your love went away
I just can’t seem to understand
Thought it was me and you babe
Me and you until the end
But I guess I was wrong
Don’t want to think about it
Don’t want to talk about it
I’m just so sick about it
Can’t believe it’s ending this way
Just so confused about it
Feeling the blues about it
I just can’t do without ya
Tell me is this fair?
Is this the way it’s really going down?
Is this how we say goodbye?
Should’ve known better when you came around
That you were gonna make me cry
It’s breaking my heart to watch you run around
‘Cause I know that you’re living a lie
That’s okay baby ’cause in time you will find…
What goes around, goes around, goes around
Comes all the way back around
What goes around, goes around, goes around
Comes all the way back around
What goes around, goes around, goes around
Comes all the way back around
What goes around, goes around, goes around
Comes all the way back around
Now girl, I remember everything that you claimed
You said that you were moving on now
And maybe I should do the same
Funny thing about that is
I was ready to give you my name
Thought it was me and you, babe
And now, it’s all just a shame
And I guess I was wrong
Don’t want to think about it
Don’t want to talk about it
I’m just so sick about it
Can’t believe it’s ending this way
Just so confused about it
Feeling the blues about it
I just can’t do without ya
Can you tell me is this fair?
Is this the way things are going down?
Is this how we say goodbye?

Let me paint this picture for you, baby
You spend your nights alone
And he never comes home
And every time you call him
All you get’s a busy tone
I heard you found out
That he’s doing to you
What you did to me
Ain’t that the way it goes
You cheated girl
My heart bleeds girl
So it goes without saying that you left me feeling hurt
Just a classic case
A scenario
Tale as old as time
Girl you got what you deserved
And now you want somebody
To cure the lonely nights
You wish you had somebody
That could come and make it right
But girl I ain’t somebody with a lot of sympathy
You’ll see
(What goes around comes back around)
I thought I told ya, hey
(What goes around comes back around)
I thought I told ya, hey
(What goes around comes back around)
I thought I told ya, hey
(What goes around comes back around)
I thought I told ya, hey
[laughs]
See?
You should’ve listened to me, baby
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Because
(What goes around comes back around)
[laughs]
sorry Stephen , mispelled , too used to marking Stephane.
many moons ago I objected to the fact that certain landmark cases of workplace harassment involved highly educated assertive and smart women. but ……. who’s sticking up for the exploited high school dropouts undulating in their skimpies on the late nite 1-900 infomercials???? what ‘rights’ do THEY have ???? what is the SOW doing for THEM ????
I dont even know if those ads are still running, I had ma bell yank her malfunctioning xpressvu out at the beginning of the year.
have we looked at the conditions which accompany this funding?
Ill admit i havent, but ill bet its not the open -ended (do nothing but pay salaries) kind of funding that existed previously.
Okay so now I’m not a prophet, just can’t keep up my BAD. Back to FNB&B.
As women are now equal or better I suggest the government make the programme gender-neutral.
How about Status of People or SOP.
“”I have no idea what that means””
It means simply that a bunch of femnazis will continue to feather their nests, while rape victims in Saudi are subjected to 90 lashes…all at the expense of the sheeple of Canuckistan.
And fergy nails it…more,more,more.
Goddammit! My tax dollars are not your’s to use for buying votes!
Welp, there’s an election battle looming. Mr. Harper just reached across the House and took one of the few remaining arrows out of the Liberal quiver.
His decision is disappointing, disheartening, unsettling — you know, all the things that kids feel when they first realize that their parents “do it”.
Aw, from your subject line I thought you were linking to my post on Antonia Zerbisias…
Very disappointing…I hope that there is more accountability with it, less advocacy, less beaurocracy.I thought Harper could stand his ground.

Sorry I didn’t mean for that last comment to go up.
Putting 5 BIG ONES back into the status of women is a dumb,…Dumb. Thats the people that talk for all women in Canada? Right! I think not; he made a bad move there. A lot of these women are not your average Canadian women. If some bird bird brain wants to speak for them they should ask first. I am sure most Canadian women can speak for themselves, with out the bird brains. There is certainly is no Status of Men crap so there you are no bird brains to listen to.The status of women will still trash Harper anyway.
Thanks for the link, kate. It states that the funding is NOT for the SOW offices, it’s not for funding advocacy activities or research projects. That’s what it was used for before – with most of the money going to fund the salaries, offices, conferences, research of these middle class women who were ‘advocating’ equality.
That’s gone.
The money is to fund groups providing direct services to women in need. Not for advocacy offices. Not for research. Just for the services.
And, the word ‘equality’ has been removed. Nothing to do with ‘advocating equality of women’, since that is already in the charter. Simply money to provide services. Period.
It’s not the same as it was.
Thank you ET
So it is as i suspected.
Im sure that we will find that all funding from this government has an expectation of results.
I’m with EBD and ET on this one. If the leader of Canada’s center-right party were to take the advice of many of those who have commented here and in the Agriculture Announcement thread criticizing some sort of perceived lack of ideology on Mr. Harper’s behalf, Canada’s right-of-center supporters would still have just the seventy seats that Reform held after Campbell crashed and burned.
H. L. Mencken said: “The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government; they have only a talent for getting and holding office. Their principal device to that end is to search out groups who pant and pine for something they can’t get and to promise to give it to them. Nine times out of ten that promise is worth nothing. The tenth time is made good by looting A to satisfy B. In other words, government is a broker in pillage, and every election is sort of an advance auction sale of stolen goods.”
I’m not that cynical, but there is a degree of truth there that Mr. Harper can’t change. If he tries to, the Conservatives will lose the reigns of government to some other party, in which case the Conservative’s supporters will be back to the opposition benches. The best one can reasonably hope for is to pick the best auctioneer from among the available choices. Mr. Harper is that person.
In this SOW case, he took out five million from parts of that organization that were make-non-work projects for activists and civil servants, and then he put it back in to, as The Star reports, “groups providing direct services to women”. The new funding explicitly prohibits its use for advocacy projects. That is a net win, at the margin, for the center-right.
Similarly in the agriculture subsidies case. He can’t not do them, but he has re-jigged the methodology so that this new money goes directly to farmers, not to bureaucratic civil-service transaction costs. That is a net win, at the margin, for the center-right.
When it comes to steering the ship of state of a large functioning democracy like Canada, wins only come at the margin. Any party that the statistically average elector finds too radical will not form the government. Mr. Harper is the best Prime Minister of Canada that I’ve ever seen. Yet it remains the case that he is the leader of the government of a nation. He is not a philosophy professor.
I have given my MP, Gary Lunn, notice that my tolerance for this kind of crap lasts only until they have a majority. Many of his Van Isle backers are biting their tongues over this move, and a few others in the near past. I have already reminded him that Mulroney had his ass kicked out because he didn’t follow conservative values, thinking and tradition. Funding the SOW’s I find particularly grating.
I’m don’t think that 5 million buys much anymore, not that feminist harpies should get one dime of taxpayer money. They’ve got their little pink ribbons to pay for, a few bucks in grant money to victim study hacks on campuses and abortion clinic fliers….. it keeps them barely alive but not very viable as political players. Then again, they’ve been marginalized to that role for decades now.
I don’t have a problem with handing off the money if ET is correct in her post.
Redirecting the money differently makes sense.
I think Canada is about where William F Buckle and Irving Kristol were in the 1970’s when they were laying the conservative foundation that eventually brought Reagan to power and a dramatic shift to individual accountability and an investor class versus a utopian chattering class running things took place in the USA.
As … me no dhimmi .. said today on another thread, even the world’s most successful conservatives, Thatcher and Reagan, did not shrink government; they only slowed the growth down , which nevertheless is an incredible achievement in a world full of socialists.
Harper is driving the election machinery that needs to be put in place for about 2 majority terms to have much impact on freeing Canada from its culture of dependency on big government.
When the utopians in the MSM hysterically scream we have a hidden agenda, in a sense they are right. If we earn the trust of the voters, conservatives will move the country to the right. But we can’t do it quickly; it can only be done in small incremental steps because Canadians will not take political risk. As ET pointed out, we’ve been cocooned for half a century now; being centrist means very little change and we have to be centrist to get a majority.
I’m actually very optimistic that change for the better can happen over the next decade. A couple of years ago I had given up all hope.
And as an after thoguh…lot’s not who was screaming loudest when SOW funding was cut…Belinda and Judy…nuff said
errr….thought…as Kate would say….proof,proof,proof.
Where’s Preston when you need him?
I used to watch Buckley on pbs. he was the first high profile conservative I ever watched and was immensely impressed with the cohesiveness of his arguements.
what was that show called? just a moment, let me pick it up …… ‘firing line’ I think it was…. anyway, check out his National Review:
http://author.nationalreview.com/latest/?q=MjE0Ng==
I believe that there are some constraints on this money — with a certain portion going to community initiatives for women and another portion going for special projects . . . so that it is not business as usual and the SOW offices will not be reopening across the country. I would like to know more about what is being funded, but if this is true I’m o.k. with it. I don’t mind money for community groups for disadvantaged individuals (and many will be Aboriginals, or new immigrants, etc.)– that will have a practical impact.
Harper is driving the election machinery that needs to be put in place for about 2 majority terms to have much impact on freeing Canada from its culture of dependency on big government.
Too late. Harper already jumped the shark, and he’s dragged it into the back room where he’s making wild, passionate love to it.
it can only be done in small incremental steps because Canadians will not take political risk.
Better to stand up, tell the truth and be un-elected than to get elected by talking and acting like you’re just another run-of-the-mill, socialist wimp. It’s a degrading spectacle to watch, it’s pandering to the stupidest and laziest impulses in people and it’s hardly a way of getting a mandate to make any meaningful change. Of course you cannot fix everything over night, but you’ll never change it if you’re too scared to tell anyone what’s wrong.
Your party has already conceded with its policies that government control of half of the economy is OK. On what logical or moral grounds can you possibly refute someone who contends that if 50% is OK, 80% will be better and 100% will be great?.
I would rather not have any politicians but if you insist on holding elections, you should find a guy like this.

Okay LindaL…there is just over 7.5 BILLION on your two groups…and you want more??? Damn leftards are everywhere!!
Whoa, some of you hear are sounding like you are ready to toss out Harper and these Conservatives because of this new announcement of money going to women’s causes. Before you get too carried away, from what I know it is money already budgeted but it usually goes to the money-sucking industry of SOW etc. but instead this government is going to make sure it goes directly to what it is supposed to be going to, women who need help. From what I have heard also it is going to be monitered closely and doesn’t necessarily mean it is all going to be spent if it doesn’t need to be, which it won’t be once you cut out all of those self-perpetuating groups like SOW etc.
Besides, who are you going to vote for, Dion, Layton or May, if so the money the Conservatives just announced for women will be like chump change compared to what those three would do with your tax money. Lets not be too quick to jump ship.
Thanks for the good analysis ET. Glad to hear that it won’t be the same type of ‘program’
…no, frances I’m not ready to toss Harper.I have followed the SWC activities for too long…it would be so dissappointing to give in to the feminist beaurocrats who are so out of touch with Canadian women. And the discussion here is relatively mild compared to last year when Emerson crossed. There were a few that were ready to toss Harper.(not me) I’d say we are all getting used to ‘surprises’ from Harper.
As was previously mentioned, there will be a different priority assigned to these new funds. When the group, “real women” get equal funding and other less-feminist organizations get a equal piece of the pie, then at least equalibrium will have been achieved. Nothing like that would EVER have happened under a Liberal or NDP administration. Sure you can be disgusted that a bloated federal program that is singularly racist, biggoted and exist has been given new funds, as I am to point, but folks….be a bit pragmatic here….and try to keep the faith…..faith that PMSH is doing the most he can, the best he can, under the circumstances. Ya, I know, it’s politics, but to achieve what he has to, he is walking the line as well any any PM has ever done, and still advancing his agenda while in a minority government. He had shown the country, and more importantly, his sceptics, he is not a loose cannon. He has earned their gudging respect. What more can we expect from him?
Really?
robertbollocks,
I’ll never forget SCTV’s parody of Firing Line. They called it Firing Squad. Joe Flaherty did a great googly-eyed, slouching Buckley. He was interviewing Martin Short and Andrea Martin playing Pierre Trudeau and Indira Ghandi. When “Trudeau” asks “Buckley” what he’d say to the two of them if they, say, walked into a bar, “Buckley” says, “Last call for left-wing lunatics and their third-world girlfriends.”
We should not be surprised that the Prime Minister had to announce money on International Women’s Day, and we can only hope that it will be spent on something other than comfortable livings for “women’s rights advocates”. Follow the money.
If it is not possible to eliminate bodies like SWC — and it probably isn’t in the short term — the Prime Minister should appoint people to them who are prepared to question the prevailing orthodoxies in those bodies. All the better if those persons are not purely political appointees.
The first time I read the press release I heard the despairing cries of several hundred brain cells in my head expiring. The second time I read it I was mildly hopeful that the extraordinarily vague bureaucratese in which the thing was written at least left open the possibility that some of the money would go to non-leftist organizations. On a more careful third reading, though, that hope disappeared: only lefties use jargon like “financial assistance” and “new means” when they mean handouts. Presumably the SOW types will get their freebies in a more roundabout way through other organizations similar to themselves. SOW is about to have its first litter, and all of the little darlings will soon be feeding at the government mammary just like their Ma.
Insincere disclaimer: no apologies are going be offered for being a member of the male gender and having the nerve to submit these opinions. Foul language and death threats are welcome and encouraged, though.
I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen a more profoundly, reverberantly funny comment than “me no dhimhi”‘s 6:47 pm bon mot — it’s like the lancing of a national boil, or something.
Helloo Cleveland!!
“SOPC”. It follows.
Is this really a conservative thread?
Giving money to women who “really need it”? You mean the ones who shacked up with a jerk and had his kids and now he beats them up? Don’t “aboriginal women” already get everything for free from cradle to grave?
Unlike half my family, I didn’t do that. But do I ever get a cheque for not being an idiot? No, my reward for being a responsible person is to hand over 40% of my paycheque to pay for other people’s stupidity.
When you pour money into things, no matter how awful, you get more of that thing. THAT is a conservative principle. Think about it.
Another preelection candy offering…sigh…1 step forward 2 steps back. Disappointing behaviour….again.
It’s a case of ‘here’s some money, go shut the hell up”. That will keep the Dippers and Liberals silent on that subject, but will it end there?
We should be able to form a status of anything and get funding: Status of Gays, SOG, Status of Men, SOM, the possibilities are endless.
Caving in to the Socialist/Lefty hordes is risky
business.
SOW flies in the face of women who boldly seek equality. It tells us they are still in a state of
dependency. They still need caring for.
I’ll agree with “me no dhimhi”,it should be SOP,
Status of People or maybe ‘Persons’, which we all are.
Liz J said: “We should be able to form a status of anything and get funding: Status of Gays, SOG, Status of Men, SOM, the possibilities are endless”
I totally disagree and I hold Harper to his promises about defunding lobby groups….lobbys should NOT have access to public funding….if their cause is just and resonates with enough people then they can find enough funding in the private sector….let the free market of ideas decide which lobbies are worthy or not.
Seems to me this is a second indication that the CPC has no more respect for the public purse than the Kleptocrat Liberals or degenerate Dips.
Thanks kathy…you have a knack for saying exactly what needs to be said…
If Real Women get any of this funding it would be a reward for Gwen Landolt’s amazing fight for all these years.
Why the hell give my money to your enemies????
They still won’t support you.
“I have no idea what that means”
Ya…eh! What the Numb Chimp said above!
If I even had a hint that I might have a thought that I might somehow know what that could possibly mean it would indicate to me that:
a) I haven’t had enough coffee this morning.
or
b) I haven’t had enough coffee this morning.
