Now For The Most Important Vote Of The Day (Updated with results)

Dinning vs Morton vs Stelmach.
What liberal bias? For sheer entertainment value, check out this this ridiculous Globe and Mail piece. I’ve taken the liberty of adding the emphasis the headline writers intended.
dinningscare.jpg
And they don’t get to blame the headline writers for this bit of sneer;

The religious right in this rural area southeast of Calgary mobilized behind Ted Morton, a social conservative who preaches so-called family values.

I look forward to future articles by Walton and Harding to apply “so-called” to the words “Canadian values”.
The G&M feedback link is here.

Results are being posted here, at Larry Johnsrude’s Edmonton Journal blog. (But not very quickly. I think he’s partying with the Stelmach people. Why are journos so bad at blogging?)
You can also follow reports at 660news.com, though there’s no continuous coverage that I’m aware of anywhere.
Or, just read the comments – it seems our readers are bringing them in faster than either of the sources listed above. (I’m updating as they come in)

Results so far in the Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership race with 79/83 polls reporting:
48,543 Jim Dinning
44,046 Ed Stelmach
36,071 Ted Morton
(CTV Calgary hasn’t bothered updating since 11:00 pm mtn)

B. Hoax Aware comments “Amazing. The MSM has abandoned leadership election results reporting to sda !!”
A blogging note – you sure can tell when it’s a big political day around here… just past midnight (Sk time) and there have been 662 visits in the last hour.
And just for fun another poll going horribly wrong…
11:43 pm in Alberta …based on current tallies, and the likely results of the Morton second choice ballots, the SDA Decision Desk is projecting Ed Stelmach the new Premier of Alberta… Now, I’m off to bed, in anticipation of preparing crow for breakfast. Continuing coverage in the comments, presumably.

Morning update
Last Update: 1:25 AM– Sunday December 03
Results from the Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership race with 83/83 polls reporting:
Ed Stelmach 51, 764
Jim Dinning 51, 282
Ted Morton 41, 243
I haven’t read them all, but the comments look to be a hoot.
Ural – “Let me be the first to congratulate the SDA Decision Desk on projecting the winner correctly a full hour and 20 minutes before MSM.”
Cal2 – “sure glad our Liberal Media CBCpravda kept up with the Alberta election – 13 hours between postings on the Pravda website 630 yesterday to 730 this morning . Bit of a contrast compared to the all day luvfest they had commercial free for their liberals.”
MaryT – “Everyone is asking what happened to Dinnings campaign, but no one has said, it became public that he donated mega bucks to Paul Martins campaign last January. That info shocked a lot of people. Be fun to read the Calgary Sun tomorrow. Maybe now the city elites will stop knocking rural Alberta. Ed took several polls in Calgary, explain that.”
Tomax7 – “…pretty sad when Albertan’s gotta get historic news from a Sask blogsite eh?”

  1. I voted at four o’clock. (I live in Morton’s riding BTW) One of the election workers said that 345 people had voted up to that time as compared to a total of 247 voting last Saturday. Sure hope the increase is a good sign! Go Ted Go!

  2. Well Elle, it seems like you Toronto gals all want to be good little capitalism-hating socialists but you also all want to marry the few rich guys available.
It’s not that the men are “self-centred and not interested in taking on the responsibilities of a family”, they are what your Cosmo-style mags warn you girls against, “self-supporting men” (that’s in the lifestyle fulff inbetween the “serious” articles promoting left-wing philosophy). They’ve barely got enough money to present to you the flash you demand, the clothes, the car, the getaways, the expensive restaurant food and booze, but they have to cut and run early in the game because the mating game takes every cent they’ve got and more.
Maybe you Toronto gals have to walk the walk as well as talk the talk. If you want a socialist economy with heavy taxation and wealth distribution, then your dream guy and your domestic fantasy needs a hearty injection of the reality of poverty.
In the groovy Toronto world the average single’s transformation from the fashionable expensive mating scene to the grim economic reality of raising a family may be just too traumatic.

  3. Kudos to folks like the guy I saw at the polling station ~ oxygen tubes and bottle (-25C) but still out to vote. Way to go.

  4. MaryT
I hope you’re right. It seems to me that the Stelmach vote is more likely to support Morton rather than Dinning as second choice.

  5. ” Language continues to be bastardized by the left. To them, adding “so-called” to “family values” is perfectly legitimate. Their alternative definition ”
    this explains all of it.
bastardize words and strip away the meanings that have held for centuries, ie ‘marriage’, ‘family’.
its motivated by political and social engineering objectives.
here’s a few more: ‘human’, ‘marriage’, oh, covered that one already. well, actually it is still evolving as we speak, 5 years from now it will have new meanings, and still more in 30 or 40 years.
language is going to be rendered useless by the loose and free utilization by lefties who clamour for the ‘right’ to do so.

  6. Re: the G&M article about the Alberta leadership race:
Well, what could one expect to hear about ‘family values’ from two ‘so-called’ reporters?

  7. Report of dirty deeds at Alberta blog called renewingtheonepartystate dot blogspot dot com. Read comments in second thread.

  8. duane lingenfelter; need I say more he is selling dinning memberships to anyone, the Sask ex- pats should remember that name and scare anyone into voting for Ted Morton, if you want a commie province like Sask. well Jim Dithers is your man but if you want Alberta as we know it, hard work and progress vote for Ted Morton now!

  9. anon, stop bashing Elle and all other Torontonians. They’re not *all* socialists. No, seriously. Some of them are Albertans-in-exile. 🙂
Anyway, is there *anywhere* we can get coverage? We had to sit through two DAYS of the Liberal leadership convention and there’s no TV/radio station covering the results of the rather more pressingly important local leadership race?

  10. I gather there no TV on the Alberta elections – is there any online radio stations as per Eileen’s request?

  11. “Family Values”
I was just rattling Elle’s cage, Eileen, I always get a kick out of a Canuck gal wondering where all the good men are. My parents were both university grads and raised 3 kids in poverty, my father didn’t make any big money on his career path until he was into his forties. I figure that’s probably a normal reality. My wife threw in with me when I had very little and she didn’t ask me to spend money and show off to her, not much restaurants and bars in our courtship. She’s a millionaire now as we enjoy middle age.
Sometimes I ponder on the whole rootless urbanite “progressive” crowd and their new ideas and attitudes. They may just be the most gullible of suckers, fish.
Who makes the better consumers in the eyes of their opinion shapers, the media and pop culture? Mr and Mrs Homemaker with two or three kids spend all their money at Canadian Tire and Walmart and Costco, they aren’t going to the movie theatre and buying CDs and DVDs and all the expensive luxury products and status symbols we see advertised… fashion, booze, gambling, tropical vacations… they can’t afford it, their money goes to home products, groceries. I doubt there’s a genuine conspiracy, but there are many multi-billion dollar industries – fashion, entertainment, bars, restaurants – who have a vested interest in encouraging an endless single scene party culture. “Family Values” costs them big bucks. And the media is where they advertise their life in a beer commercial.
So their urban consumer base falls for it, and rationalize that they’re being “progressive”… gays are cool, abortion’s a vital lifestyle necessity, churchgoers are fools… it all helps make them better consumers of pop culture and status luxuries.
Like I say, it’s a work in progress, a thought, I’m sure you all catch my drift.

  12. I am ashamed to say that I can find no MSM coverage. I thought for sure that QR77 would be covering. Apparantly not….Rutherford is in for an ass chewing Monday. It seems 660 is not on the ball either.
The polls closed an hour ago and I’ll colect what I can and blog here if that’s O.K. with Kate.

  13. anon: I think you’ve really hit on something. The ones that truly think for themselves, don’t follow every trend that comes along and find reward in life’s simple, spiritual pleasures don’t make very good consumers of pop culture. Someone once pointed out that Pierre Trudeau, far from being a leader, was in fact the biggest follower of every trendy fad dished out by the media. The results showed.

  14. Tons of coverage of moronic Liberals grovelling cover Dion, but barely a blurb about the election in the most powerful province in Canada.
As was pointed out earlier…the winner of the Liberal leadership will only leave Liberal voters scratching their heads after the next election, while the winner of the Alberta election tonight will likely affect what happens in Canada over the next 10yrs.
I would be (I want to say surprised) disappointed if Canada elects Dion next time around. I don’t think I can handle another Prime Minister that I can only understand every second word. The crowning of Dion is further proof (and I don’t blame them) that the Liberal party has written of any votes west of Ontario.

  15. Update
I talked with Natasha Rapchuk, the news director at QR77. She told me that given the slow return process that they saw last weekend they chose not to live broadcast the results.
At minimum they will provide updates every 15.

  16. Did Alberta already seperate?…and we missed it? zippo on the leadership race out there…oh right it’s a Conservative election….
good points anon…we are the non-conformists, also, not deluded by the media pressure….go easy on elle…she actually doesn’t sound like a Tranna elite…
Are all you westerners being kept in the dark too re: Morton/Dinning?I think Ottawa/ provincial relations are more of a concern right now than who the Libs vote as a so-called leader.

  17. Got back home just in time for the results of the final ballot. UGH. Turnout today was great. NOw just got back from counting our poll
Morton 61%, Stelmach 16% Dinning 12%, and Morton got a split of 2nd choice from Dinning and Stelmach voters. Stelmach got most of the 2nd choices, but only 59% of the ballots had a second choice. Those 2nds were from Morton voters. Ours was the first poll reporting in our riding, so no results yet.

    Stelmach — 532
    Calgary Glenmore
    Dinning —981
    Morton —528

  19. Hmmmm. Thx Tim. Looks not too bad for Morton so far. He seems to be holding his own in the cities (well sort of) and I’m hoping that lots of Stelmachs voters put Morton down as #2. Too bad the coverage sucks.

  20. Damn. Hope things start getting better for Morton soon. Still fairly tight though with about 10% of votes counted I’m guessing. maybe a little more

  21. With 26,916 votes in 19 ridings counted by 9:15 p.m., Dinning had 10,451 votes to Stelmach’s 8,253 and Morton’s 8,212.

  22. alberta elections
CBCpravda has had the same headline and story up now for four hours. with them all tuckered out from the biglib convention I suppose they have all gone home to have visions of liberal payoff plums dancing in their heads.
dont expect the website to change till noon tomorrow.

  23. Results as of 9:35 p.m. in Saturday’s final ballot in the Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership election:
    Jim Dinning 13,519
    Ed Stelmach 12, 871
    Ted Morton 10, 175

  24. it is possible to access results via
    renewingtheonepartystate.blogspot.com
Scroll down a bit on the Sticky thread and you will find the johnsrude link

  25. Results as of 9:47 p.m. in Saturday’s final ballot in the Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership election:
    Ed Stelmach 17, 089
    Jim Dinning 17, 051
    Ted Morton 13, 468

  26. Now this is what I call a tight race. Hopefullythe southern parts of the province are yet to be counted and Morton can pull ahead.

  27. Results as of 9:50 p.m. in Saturday’s final ballot in the Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership election:
    Ed Stelmach 18,667
    Jim Dinning 17,435
    Ted Morton 14,294

  28. This is a Stelmach / Morton race now. Dinning is not far enough ahead in his areas. Stelmach / Morton second choice will largely go to each other. Hopefully Morton pulls ahead but I can live with ED.

  29. It’s Premier Ed. The only way for Jim or Ted to have won was for Ed to finish 3rd and split up his 2nd’s.
Neither Ted nor Jim’s supporters will put their 2nd for the other. So all those 2nd’s will go to Ed.
Right up the middle with a milquetoast candidate.
I have a source (1 degree of separation from a Conservative MLA) who says that a Premier Stelmack will be horrible. He’s well known to be extremely influenceable. Basically whoever gets to talk to him last gets his way. Hence why Oberg, Norris, & Hancock all went to him after the first ballot. They knew they would have no sway with Jim or Ted but could still have great influence with a Premier Ed.

  30. I think this is Edmonton/Calgary results. I believe this is a Morton Stelmach race. Dinning is toast.

  31. Results in Saturday’s final ballot in the Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership race with 43/83 polls reporting:
    23, 523 Jim Dinning
    22, 139 Ed Stelmach
    17, 993 Ted Morton

  32. Bubbles is right, Stelmach is going to be a disaster. Just wait until you see the quality of the people he puts in his cabinet.

  33. Who’s got connections for vote results in the south?
    Jim Dinning – 28,605
    Ed Stelmach – 25,182
    Ted Morton – 21,044
Very disappointed in the MSM. They’re still talking about the Dion win.
