Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

It may as well be a G&M column. Its pretty bad when bald satire is indistinguishable from what the object of its satire is. Might even be a little tame compared to the G&M.
As an American, I am now very fearful of RUSHing into any foreign policy decision. Above all things, I do hope Americans have learned the best lesson of our hapless “RUSH to war”. Socialists worldwide will be grateful that the days of “Cowboy Diplomacy” are over.
I have yet to fully ponder all the potential ramifications of the opinions shared by such important friends as Cameroon and Angola. I absolutely do not want to overstep my boundraries. After all, Israel has been a Democracy EVEN BEFORE Hussein launched his state-instutited RAPE ROOMS and HUMAN SHREDDERS.
I sincerely value the imput of our “allies”.
Surely you can sympathize with my delima. Who could decide whether to support a long-standing Democratic ally, or an oppressive terrorist regime? Oh the burdens we bear. Let me think… What could I do to make Islamist freaks NOT want to kill me. Oh yeah, nothing. Still, what was that Angola and Cameroon said? Uhhh… let me think…
If Flap Jack could get those pesky Hezbolla and Hamas members to pay union dues, they wouldn’t have the time or money for those tedious suicide missions. And maybe Bill Graham could channel John Lennon and strike up a verse or two of “Give Peace a Chance”, That would surely tug at their terrorist hearts.

Middle East, Lebanon and dual-citizenship
Daily Telegraph ^ | 19 July 2006 | Piers Akerman
THE latest Middle East conflagration has flushed out a new class of dual nationality super-snivellers who believe mere possession of an Australian passport guarantees them security in their “other” homeland.
A number of Lebanese-Australians are berating the Australian Government for not doing enough to get them out of Lebanon.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, up to 25,000 Australians – who also hold Lebanese passports – live permanently or semi-permanently in Lebanon.
Of these, some 6000 are registered with the Australian Embassy, presumably because they expected they might need assistance that Lebanon was unable to provide.
Preposterously, they have been hitting the airwaves and the front page of the Sydney (note: shouldn’t that be Syrian?) Morning Herald with their carping and cavilling criticism that the Australian Government isn’t doing enough to help them.
Leaders of the Lebanese community have said they are so frustrated with the Federal Government’s “shameful” attempts to rescue Australians from Lebanon they are willing to fly there and do it themselves.
Dr Abraham Constantine from the World Lebanese Cultural Union of Australia and Asia said people were lining up to help get the Lebanese-Australians home.
“If the Australian Government needs manpower to assist with the evacuation, hundreds of Australian-Lebanese are ready to get on a plane and assist with the evacuation process,” he said.
“We are ready to assist with money, we are ready to assist with manpower, we just need a safe plan to get the people out of Lebanon.”
Dr Constantine said the Australian Government must use its strong relationship with the US to influence Israel into effecting a 24-hour ceasefire in order to get Australians out. …-

must be in the constitution somewhere….. look under the section labled “no direction” or “lack of balls”
Yes, it’s a great column. And alarming when a satire is essentially identical with reality.
The MSM is failing its duty of informing the public. Instead they are a massive propaganda machine for the Liberals/NDP. That’s all they are. The press and TV are currently engaged in a massive ‘hate Harper’ orgy, something approaching the leftist Hate Bush orgies in the US. It’s quite astonishing. It’s hourly, daily –
you get ‘expert airheads’ expressing their ‘learned opinions’ that Harper is ‘tied to Bush’ and does only what Bush says. This utterly ignores the actual war and its causes. The focus is only on the psychological nature of Harper. Bush is, of course, defined without facts or analysis as Pure Evil.
There are column after column writing about ‘how slow’ Canada is to evacuate Its Citizens. Ignoring that Canada has no planes or boats and must book ships (including double booking one already booked by Ausralia).
Not a word about ‘how strange that there are 40,000 Canadians who live permanently in Lebanon.
Every news hour, is filled with anguished faces of these non-Canadians demanding to be taken, at Canadian taxpayer expense, out of their permanent home in Lebanon. (remember, there are only 5,000 actual Canadians visiting Lebanon; the rest are there permanently).
Every news hour is filled with earnest Mansbridge and Taber and whoever, commenting on ‘how long’; commenting on ‘why is Harper supporting Israel’…Not a word, ever, about the rockets from Iran fired by Hezbollah.
We have mindless pundits like Gloria Galloway taking questions on the G&M; we have online votes about ‘how bad Harper is handling this’.
But – nothing, not a word, not a whisper – wondering why 40,000 Canadians with outdated passports live permanently in Lebanon and why Canada is obliged to nurture, support and protect them. Not a question. Not a word.
And nothing about the basic problems in the ME – of Iran moving in to support Lebanon’s Hezbollah, effectively setting up a state within a state. Of Iran arming this state within a state. Of Iran and Syria working to develop this state within a state – to foment a ME crisis by having this state within a state attack Israel. Not a word about Iran.
Instead, the MSM propaganda machine is all about the pysche of Harper. Incredible.
Finally, finally, one MSM is asking The Question. This is the editorial from the Toronto Sun:
“Now that we know many of these people are dual citizens who live permanently in Lebanon, we may need to rethink whether our immigration and citizenship policies are creating too many “Canadians of convenience” around the world. We are not talking here about the eight members of a Montreal family tragically killed in an Israeli air raid this week. They were on vacation in the town of their birth.
That said, why are there up to twice as many Canadian citizens in Lebanon as Americans and 50 times the number of some European countries? ”
This is the question. Instead, our big MSM are having a massive frothing Hate Harper propaganda bust. Every column, every editorial, every TV show, is filled with Hate Harper. No questions are asked or facts analyzed.
Facts: Canada has no planes or ships or helicopters. It has to rent them; how many vacant ships are floating around, waiting for some gov’t to book them?? Remember the three weeks it took for the Liberals to get the 48-hour response time DART to Indonesia? And the fact they had to get the Russians to airlift them?
Facts: back to reality. Why are there 50,000 ‘Canadians’ requiring this assistance – more than double the US number, the Australia number, and ten times as many as other countries. And – they don’t even live in Canada.
Facts: Hezbollah started this; it’s a terrorist group operating as a state within a state, funded by Iran and Syria. Iran wants to foment war in the ME. Syria would like to destroy the Lebanese gov’t and move back in, in control.
Yet, the MSM is focusing on Harper. Ignoring all the facts.
The Fog of War, eh?
Canadians are witnessing the classic shaping of mainstream Canadian news with an uber negative spin.
Within hours if not minutes of eight Canadians getting killed by an Israel bomb strike, Canadian media were featuring some few selected dual citizens whining that no evacuation was yet taking place.
Don’t bother to point out that war tends to disrupt communication in war region.
Don’t bother to mention we do not have ships , let alone ships in the immediate area, or the large planes to move many people quickly.
The negative headlines manage to drive home the negative message, be it only the statement of one malcontent dual citizen, thousands of miles from the chaos.
Magnify the negative immediately in the public mind.
The rights of dual citizenship Canadians is now suddenly established as precedent, thanks to negative MSM spin..
Instant evacuation from anywhere in the world within twenty-four hours.
Guaranteed!
Nuanced MSM coverage.
Job done!
I was watching History Channel last night — great feature on the Canadians at Juno Beach. One point that struck me as germane to the present evacuation problem was the fact that at the height of the combined allied effort, following months of planning, with disciplined, highly organized troops, naval landing craft, landing on five different beaches and simply being put ashore, 50,000 troops per day were being landed. Imagine the logistical nightmare of extracting thrity thousand from a country at war, in which the communications have been disrupted, using civilian transport on a few days’ notice.

can you imagine the the logistics nightmare when a country scrambled to get every available pleasurecraft, fishing vessel, manpower to evacuate Dunkirk in a matter of hours…
Taber’s article today is probably worse than Collins’ satire. Apparently Harper is “complicating” the rescue effort with his stopover to ferry 100 stranded canadians home.
Perhaps Taber is one of the journalists that Harper kicked off the plane?
CBC news last night has solved the puzzle on why there are 40-50,000 Canadian citizens in Lebanon. We were told that they were snowbirds, not unlike those that head south each winter. Not surprisingly there are a few issues that can be attached to that statement.

snowbirds eh? that would explain the expired passports.
so of the 141000 Lebanese Canadians fully one third of them take off to excape the cruelty of the Canadian summer and go to the cool of Beirut.
CBCpravda last night was decrying the lack of organization of the evacuation- anyone that has experienced the cacaphony of the middle east wouldnt be able to tell that evacuation from a typical street scene anytime, anywhere.these are supposed to be experienced journalists – give me a break.
Kate,
I don’t know what you hope to accomplish by posting topics that are sarcastic fiction. The only thing I can think of is to keep the attention of some of the hard core fanatics that post here.
Isn’t this what organizations like Hezbolla do. Invent stoies to encite the feeble-minded so as to enlist them into their twisted ego-maniacal plots.
People like maz2 that take the bait are only showing their inability to think clearly and that they rush to hasty emotional conclusions.
ET,
FYI…The Toronto Sun has long been known as an asswipe conservative rag.
True Satire: (a good chuckle)
Insiders are saying: Send in the Canadian Forces. Walk up to Hezbullah. Stare them straight in the eye. Say to them: “I am Canadian”. Then say: “enough”. Then phone Jack.
Mark Collins redeems himself with true satire which would be recognized even by people not yet in contact with his Warholian 15 minutes.
Yes, Giggles Jane Taber was one of the self-defined ‘journalists’ kicked off Harper’s plane. But she would bash him anyway; she’s part of the Liberal/NDP propaganda machine that is our MSM.
As people point out, the logistics of obtaining ships, in the area (ie, not docked in South America), that are free and not full of contraband fish, and book them – with double booking by other countries (eg Australia)..getting them there – to remove these fake Canadian ‘citizens’. … Unreal.
Very interesting what is really going on – which the MSM are NOT reporting on…frothing in a gluttonous mindless attack on Harper… is the FACT and REALITY.
Note that Saudi Arabia is condemning Hezbollah! Ahh..so..that’s what it’s about. It’s Iran’s ambitions to be Emperor of the ME. Iran has tried, unsuccessfully, to get the US/West into a war with it. This current action is part of the strategy. Note that so far, the US is not biting. It’s simply supporting Israel. But Iran wants the West involved.
Iran wants to be The King of the ME. Saudi Arabia, equally corrupt and tribal, doesn’t want that. SA also doesn’t want democracy (Iraq), but, it can live with it for the moment. But Iran and Syria don’t want democracy. And, Iran is very ambitious. It wants to take over the Tribal Kingship of the ME.
Therefore, it and its sidekick Syria are the insurgents in Iraq – to destabilize it.
Now, it is trying to get the West into a war, via Israel. Iran and Syria are behind the Hamas and Hezbollah attacks. These aren’t against Israel, they certainly have zilch to do with helping Palestine. That’s a strategy, a front, to get the West to fight and even, weaken those who are against Iran. That’s why SA is against Hezbollah. And why Jordan, UAE, Iraq, Egypt, are silent.
But the Canadian MSM press says nothing. The BBC are even analyzing it. But the Canadian MSM are focused strictly on Bash Harper.
Those Lebanese certainly aren’t snowbirds. They don’t ‘return’ to Canada in the summer/winter whatever. They don’t come at all; in fact, one wonders if they ever came, ever stayed longer than a week. This is what the Liberals have done to us. Decimated the military, decimated any capacity to rescue civilians. And, set up Canada as the Safety Valve of the world – ie. laughing stock.
david brown – because you, personally, don’t agree with the editorial of the Toronto Sun, or with the ideology of some members of the Toronto Sun, doesn’t mean anything.
You, personally, haven’t provided us with any intellectual content to support your opinions.
bryanr,
You are either joking or a half-wit.
“can you imagine the the logistics nightmare when a country scrambled to get every available pleasurecraft, fishing vessel, manpower to evacuate Dunkirk in a matter of hours…”
So what do you suggest? Going in to NFLD and commandeering all the fishing boats? Ya, cause they’d all get to Lebanon in a few hours, right?
Do you know how close the coast of France is to the coast of England? Do you know how far the coast of Lebanon is from the coast of Canada? Do you know how close the allies came to failure and how much that operation cost in blood and treasure?
Please God I hope you were kidding because if not, you’re a retard.
JWP,
You must be joking. The CBC said they were “snowbirds”???!!! It’s F***ing JULY for Christ’s sakes!!! Does the CBC think we’re all that stupid? I suppose it’s possible that the lefties who appreciate the CBC are actually that stupid…
I can’t believe you listened to it. I suppose someone has to ‘take a hit for the team’ as it were.
David Brown,
Your snotty comment is asinine and without intelligence.
Hezbollah doesn’t produce parodies of news stories. They kill Jews. They behead people, fire rockets into civilian areas with the express purpose of killing as many civilian Jews as possible and generally acts as the 7th century savages they are. Hezbollah does the Lebanese only slightly less harm than they do to Israeli Jews (and Arabs.)
Any output by Hezbollah to the media would be propaganda designed to fool, not parodies to entertain. Hezbollah, in other words, produces anti-Semitic Blood Libels designed to ferment hatred of Jews and to recruit terrorists willing to die to kill Jews. This is not even remotely similar to the parody above.
There is no parallel between this bloody, murderous terrorist group and someone making fun of a journalist and the paper she works for. To suggest otherwise betrays stunning ignorance and lack of perspective on your part.
You, David, by showing your arrogant contempt in such a foolish manner out yourself as less than a stellar thinker. When you look down the end of your nose at others then say stupid things, it makes you look way worse than if you has said something stupid after showing a little humility and respect for others. That you didn’t have the judgment to do this is not surprising, you’re a lefty.
Kate,
Can we please get a new set of lefties to “debate” with? This lot is hopeless…
bryanr: does your last post mean that we can anticipate your launching a boat off the shore of Nova Scotia, crossing the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, and showing up on the shores of Lebanon in anticipation of picking up any Canadian citizen who happens to be stranded on the beach?
Unfortunately, fully sentient lefties are in hiding (where’s Michael Ignatieff?) out of fear of retaliation from the far more numerous moonbat variety.
Funny old MSM.
CNN reporting that Hezbollah “implored” and “asked” the Lebanese to not leave some of the cities so as to give them “moral support”. Is that how you describe the murderers shooting people who try to get past a blockade that keeps civilians as human shields?
Now John Gray at CBC Reality Check disputing who started this by saying:
“But in the Middle East there is no longer any “initial attack.” The history of the past 60 years has been an unbroken continuum of attack and counter-attack, and it is impossible to say how it began, when who did what to whom.”
Cute. Purposefully obtuse and misdirective. Exactly the qualities I look for in journalism! (sarcasm)
Wawick:
“I suppose someone has to ‘take a hit for the team’ as it were” LMAO
I do have a habit of watching CBC news. It is kind of like watching a train wreck, tou know what’s going to happen, but you can’t take your eyes away from it, then you sit in amazement at what you just saw, hit the remote and rejoin the real world. Plus you can come up with gems like snowbirds. I’ll take the hit, they haven’t converted me yet! If you notice from future posts that I am slipping, let me know immediately and I will find a 12 step program somehere to correct that.
I think the initial attack as reported was Cain who whacked Abel.
Cain was a hunter/gatherer type, Abel a farmer.

Warwick: Aren’t you being hard on those moonbats that pop up here? Naaaa, forget I asked.
I respect opinion that disagrees with my own so long as it makes sense, is reasonable and based on this reality rather than the alternate reality that resides up the arse of the average troll which is the same location they usually have their heads.
What I can’t tolerate is ignorance and/or stupidity. That isn’t to say that everything must be perfect all the time – I don’t measure up to that standard so it’s not reasonable to hold anyone else to it.
But is it too much to ask that you think before you post? Sadly for our moonbat trolls, apparently so.
I wouldn’t comment on a topic I know nothing at all about. I would at least read enough to have a competent grasp of the issues.
Thanks, Warwick, for your roast, altogether deserved , of the couch-potato-minded david brown–I can’t be bothered to dignify him with the upper case convention.
Not an iota of content in his nihilistic post. I recently gave another leftie toddler a short course, “Short Essay Writng 101”. If mr brown would like to apply, I’d be glad to give hin my online course. (It’s free, db. Think about it.)
I posted this on another thread on July 19:
CBC Radio (2) news at 6:00 a.m. Virtually ALL of it was designed to diss the Conservatives. Cases in point:
1) The “confusion and chaos” at the Beirut port where thousands of Lebanese Canadians are waiting to be evacuated. CBC reported (lovingly) that these people were complaining that the Canadian government’s not being efficient enough. (Why not just stay in Lebanon, then, if all you can do is complain?) Late in the report, the newscaster happened to mention that the government’s officials HAD ASKED the passengers to STAY PUT until called to come to the port. (In fairness, I think, like those who disregarded this request, I’d have done so too.)
Context NOT given: a) Lebanon is a WAR zone! Under such conditions, evacuations of thousands of people at short notice are usually somewhat compromised and, therefore, may be a little disorganized. b) The government officials would be LIBERAL appointees, not Conservative ones. (duh) c) It’s the Liberals who created the dual citizenship situation, whereby very large (hmm) numbers of Lebanese Canadian citizens spend part of the year in a country occupied by a terrorist group. Don’t claim these people didn’t know. d) No mention that it was Hezbollah, in Lebanon, which has not been brought to heel by either the Lebanese government or UN troops there (hmmm, again), that started all this.
2) Some Lebanese Canadians, who made it back to Edmonton from the war zone with much difficulty, blamed the Conservatives for their and their family’s plight. One of them was quoted as saying, “The Conservatives are unlikely to get my vote next election.” As if this person hasn’t already been bought by the Liberals!
And if the Liberals hadn’t supported Palestinian terrorists all along, while leaving Israel to its fate, maybe Lebanon would be a safer place.
The CBC is simply an anti-Conservative propaganda machine. The sooner it gets chucked, the better. Oh, for a Conservative majority!
(July 20/06) P.S. And I didn’t mention one thing:
The Liberals underfunded our military so drastically that it’s their fault–NOT the Conservatives–that Canada has such a diminished capacity to respond quickly and efficiently.
(And re the majority of government officials in Lebabnon being Liberal-appointed, and wouldn’t it be a neat political ploy–outside general government inefficiency and incompetence–for them not to make the supreme effort to help?
A Gaia-type, soft-headed leftie friend of mine, with whom I shared this idea today, naively said, “Oh, they WOULDN’T do THAT!”
O ya?)
hey DR.D & Warwick if you had read the beginning addressed to dr d. reference to juno beach I was simplier stating a fact about an evac that was one of the most important in WWII history. Where in my comment you fCKN Dick’s did i state or refer to the current crisis, as for the leftie comments it is usually trolls such as yourself that get on these that think you know every fnn thing, when it was the lefties that put out country into situations such as this by granting dual citizenship for the sake of forming a govt. & also depleting our forces to the brink that now we have to spend billions just to bring us a hair closer to what we once were. And as usual typical left you never read & get the facts straight you make derogitive ignorant comments then again it was the liberal left that labeled PM Harper(Scary) LOOK at TODAY’S POLLS. This country is finally putting you out to pasture where you belong.
Kate, bryanr is swearing at Warwick and me — which isn’t especially upsetting since I spent nine years in the Canadian army. However, unless he can put it to the tune of “The North Atlantic Squadron”, it really moves nothing forward. Besides, his diction and punctuation are shocking, simply shocking.
I apologize to the contributors for my language, however no one appreciates the derogitive comments you too made to myself & others when we make contributions to this blog regardless of what a person may say that might be right or wrong, everyone is entitled to an opinion. As for Juno Beach i was on our local committee in cojunction with our local wallmart when we were raising monies for the Juno Beach Centre. Why for one i have a close tye to Juno My Uncle was killed on the first landing, 2nd the monies raised across Canada by volunteer’s raised more monies then the liberals contributed on behalf of the Gov’t Typical response by the left to our war dead. You serving 9yrs should know that after seeing them decimate our forces to point where we are today that we cannot even respond in due course to a world crisis no matter where it is, we have to depend on a foreign govt. to hitch a ride.
have a good day
Canada’s media has seized on to Harper’s “Katrina” and isn’t going to let it go. No matter what is done for Canadians in Lebanon, it will not be enough. Just think back to Katrina last year and you hear the same things coming from the ingrates that the MSM finds: relief wasn’t fast enough, why weren’t they prepared for this, it’s so disorganized, there’s not enough food & water, it’s too hot, they’re treating us like animals, etc. No-one to be found that is grateful for being rescued and few questions about how thousands of people came to be in the predicament to begin with.
They want you to believe that if the Liberals were in power there would have been a whole fleet of air-conditioned luxury cruise ships with all the food and water anyone could want standing by, just in case.
ET,
All you have to do is dig out out some old Toronto Suns from around the time leading up to the last election. They consistently slagged Martin and kissed Harper’s butt.
I sent a letter to the editor praising Martin and calling them to task on their obvious bias and got a ridiculous reply back from them.
I know conservative posters here like to lump all the MSM into 1 garbage heap but the truth of the matter is, there is actually 2 heaps.
DrDiction (dick shun)
While bryanr is not the best speller he does have a worthy point of view.

What follows is a statement released jointly by six Canadian Lebanese organizations on Wednesday.

We, the undersigned, representatives of the six Lebanese organizations listed below, extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Canadian government, represented by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter MacKay, for the correct, just and prompt positions they have taken with regard to Lebanon and the unfortunate military confrontations that are occurring on its soil as a result of the reckless hostile actions of Hezbollah. Those actions violate the will of the Lebanese people and the decisions and authority of the legitimate government of Lebanon.
