Sometimes I read something that really gets to me; and I become�. How can I say this delicately� rather worn-out with the inane and dreary criticism of the Iraq War by the Socialist Utopians who just won�t let go. I think that if I hear Abu Ghraib evoked in the name of Leftist arrogance one more time I�ll have to beat someone with a wifflebat. Why am feeling like this? Because of this:
The entrance to the genocide museum is in the back of the building. To get there from the front you have to walk past one of the rape rooms. Women�s underwear and contraceptives were found in that room when the prison was liberated by the Peshmerga.
When you enter the museum you will walk through a long and winding hallway. The walls are covered with mirror shards. Each represents one of the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi Kurds murdered in the genocidal Anfal campaign. A river of twinkling lights lines the ceiling. Somebody somewhere decided that in order to justify the Iraq War a �smoking gun� would have to be found. And, it would seem, the vast majority of people bought into this foolish notion. As the Bush haters Moveon smugly in their delusion that Bush did lie, they may not have noticed the growing evidence trickling from Iraqi archives that not only may prove beyond a doubt that Iraq had WMD, but that Osama and Saddam had a pretty cozy relationship after all. There’s just too many people with their heads burried in the sand to look at the BIG picture. They can’t/won’t see what has happened in places like Iraq and what will happen to/for the people once stability has become the norm. These same people that scream against war and such turn a blind eye at what the end result will be, … exactally what they’re preaching for now! I have never been able to make any sense out of what “left” minded people are saying and question whether or not they know which end is up! Yet, they insist on demonstrating their intelligence {or lack thereof} at every opportunity. Small wonder the world is in the shape it’s in.

It contains advanced laboratories for testing and production of weapons, poisons and explosives.”

Penny…. good post with much information . Logic and common sense would suggest that this is pretty straight forward stuff. I will wait to see how the Left read your post and how they interpet it. I am sure they will have some theory such as holding Saddam’s manual up so that you can read it from a mirror, it will say “that the US wants our oil, and they will try to get it at any cost”. That is about as logical as some of their bunk is.
This proof of WMD is about as solid as the CGI pictures of the fabulous new homes in Kurdistan.
It’s already been proved that the cab driver who pretended he was making WMDs was lying. The US has already spent billions of dollars gathering samples and testing them for trace amounts of WMD for years and have come up a big fat zero. The hawks that sold the party faithful the story have admitted as much.

We’ve got to move past the “Why we went”, and move harder towards “How we get out”. If in the end Iraq is a better place for it’s people, a better member of the international community, and a stable environment for democratic process, it will have been worth it.

The single biggest issue in my mind is getting people in countries like that to accept that there is a better way of doing things, that you don’t have to blindly follow. That’s not something you can teach someone overnight. It’s going to take a generation.
Iran is a good example, most Iranians are just like you and I. They go to work, they buy goods, they raise children, and they plan for their old age, they enjoy what they can of their labors. The religious right there is in power for exactly the same reason we let idiots run our lives, apathy by the voter.
Sooner or later they will fix it, and in Iraq’s case, they needed a nudge. Sadaam would have held them down another 20 years if the US didn’t step in.
Right or wrong reasons don’t matter anymore, it’s done.
I frankly don’t give a damn whether Iraq had WMD or not, the invasion had to happen and the U.N. was doing squat. What galls me is the people who keep saying that the carnage in Irag was the proplem of the Iraqi people and they should have had to pull themselves out of this devils hole. These are the same people who feel the free world needs to show a conscience (Mr Paul Martin) on matters of the environment and are prepared to bring in all sorts of social changes to help the helpless and abused in our society but whose compassion seems to end at our borders. I agree Lanny, our apathy and theirs are two different sides of a coin, but the reality is that in the end, they have to want their freedom more than they fear the bullets.
Iran as a nation is fairly stable, but it wouldn’t take much to destabilize it. I think Iranians as a whole find the last civil war just to fresh in their minds.
Sooner or later they will take a hand in what their government is doing again. The Mullahs might not find the army so willing to surpress when that time comes. Democracy has a chance there, simply because the Right can’t trust that the army will support them if they are democratically defeated.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Sadaam, had he kept his nose out of kuwait, would still be in power today… but he decided he wanted to be king, and in the process, threatened US interests.

Sure, the bush admin may have been deceived or even deliberately lied about WMD in Iraq. At this point it no longer makes a difference. Can you imagine what the US and world public reaction would have been, had Bush tried to justify the invasion of Iraq solely on the basis of Saddam’s atrocities? Likely a big resounding yawn would have been the response, because the world is full of third-rate, corrupt, despotic, murderous ditators who routinely trod on human rights. And still have the gall to show up at the UN and pretend they are equals to the best of the countries on the globe.
Bush did the right thing in Iraq. He is still doing the right thing in Iraq. It’s a pity that the USA doesn’t have the resources to go in and clean up the rest of the countries with similar leadership problems, because the rest of the world would be better off for it. God knows, you can’t rely on the UN to tackle any of these challenges – they are too busy living the high life, wrapped in their cocoons of denial.

Did a quick search on Iran-Iraq war; casualties were 1,000,000+… probably more like 2,000,000, but nobody REALLY knows for sure. Saddam Hussein should bear responsibility for killing… what… a million or so? MOST of the killing on Hussein’s part was done with Soviet weapons, Soviet jets, French jets, French missiles, Soviet supplied poison gas, etc… Yes, the U.S. “chipped in”, no question about it. It might have had something to do with the 1979 coup in Tehran, and the 180 degree u-turn on the part of Iran away from the U.S., and into the welcoming camp of their new best friends, the Soviets.
Oh, don’t forget maybe 400,000+ Iraqi deaths unrelated to the war. I once heard it said that Saddam Hussein was responsible for, on average, the deaths of some 130 persons a day… SEEMS to be reasonably accurate, does it not?
1979 was ALSO the year Hussein wrested power in Iraq for himself and his SMALL coterie of cronies. I contend the Iran situation emboldened him to make his move. Otherwise, they might ask awkward questions about how Saddam’s atrocities against the Kurds in the 1980s–and atrocities they were–might compare with NATO ally Turkey’s actions against the Kurds in the 1990s, when tens of thousands of Kurds were killed, and when many, many more were driven from their homes, and all while Turkey continued to receive historically unprecedented levels of military support from the same quarters from which we now hear accusations against the same villain (Saddam) that they once strongly supported, regardless of his crimes against the Kurds or others.
So, as penny says: ban them all.
