Ford set to announce major cuts in Canada, U.S.

There will be more bad news for the North American auto industry Monday, with Ford Motor Co. expected to announce major job cuts in Canada and the United States.
Analysts believe that Ford could cut about 25,000 jobs — one-quarter of its North American workforce — and shut as many as 10 North American plants as part of its restructuring plan — called the “Way Forward.”
While those numbers have yet to be officially confirmed, it doesn’t look good, said Buzz Hargrove, the president of the Canadian Auto Workers union.
“Ford has asked me for an early morning meeting tomorrow, which indicates to me they wouldn’t call us into a meeting unless they had some bad news for us,” Hargrove told CTV Newsnet on Sunday. >>
