  1. Dr Dawg. If you are questioning if a system where a small number of corporations rule leftist then the answer is yes. It does not matter what you call a small number of people who control the economy. Soviet comisars, government ministers or Ceo’s they work under the same political system. I am allowed only one choice of cable company in my area. It’s not because there are no people prepared to set up a system to compete but because the state has laws to protect this monopoly just as government monopolies were enforced by the Soviet State. This cable company cannot be considered 100% private. It is interweaved with the government or there would be no laws to protect its monopoly. The name of an organization that provides me one choice of cable is irrelevant, be it run by a government minister or ceo. Whats important is that the political system has the power to force a monopoly. In a true capitalist system the government would not be able to interfer and so a monopoly would not last very long as competition would eventually chip away at it.

  2. Chad; You do not need my ‘take’ you need a history book. WWI was an unnessary slaughter – it was the ‘fault’ of Russia, France, Austro Hungarian Empire, Italy, Great Britan and Japan – they all agreed to fight, Austria Hungary lost and the latter were left depleated of manpower and forced to pay unjust reparations that the winners, notably France, DEMANDED – with no compassion for the German people. When Hitler came along he gave them hope for some individual freedom from oppression eg. feed their families and a chance for vengence!! People HATE being powerless and oppressed.
If you take time to read about the Russian Revolution you will discouver that Lenin staged a ‘coup d’etate’ and once he was ‘in’ the Russians had to decide who they would be best ‘on the side of’ eg. who would win. Russia, too, had been bled dry of manpower due to the slaughter of men on the frount. The failure of the Duma (a voice for the people in an elected parliament) was the direct cause of the Russian Revolution. Lenin had to resort to terrorism and martial law and gulags because the Russian people wanted a democratic government representing Joe taxpayer, not another dictatorship.
