Ma’am-
I hope I never do anything to make you mad at me. A fresh shipment of road apples, I suspect, would be on the top of the list. 😉
“We don’t do it often, but we do it sometimes,” Mr. LeBlanc said. “And in the case of Bruno, he has some responsibilities that are not on his official job description.”
Do what? How often? When? Where? Alone? With staff?
Why? Cost/rate per “do”?
What is “Bruno’s” job description? What are the other “responsibilities”?
Smell a rat(s)? All at your expense/on your taxes, Canadian taxpayers (suckers).
Greed has become normal/corruption by elected & non-elected Librano$$$$$$$ is normal in Canada.

On to AdScam Martin: Daniel Leblance is a digger/a top reporter: Kudos to him.

James Bremner replied by email and I have posted his reply here.
You say: the perennially lazy press made no investigation of the Sponsorship Program at the time
Who do you suppose broke the story? In fact, it was broken by Daniel Leblanc in the Globe and Mail in early 2000, before the Auditor General began her investigations. It seems likely that the AGs investigation was the result of stories in the press, not the other way around.
Daniel Leblancs hard work was recognized by the 2004 Michener Award:
The Globe and Mail: The newspaper’s continuing investigation of the federal sponsoring scandal, beginning with reporter Daniel Leblanc’s access to information request more than four years ago, was a significant contributor to developments in 2004. These included a scathing report by Auditor-General Sheila Fraser, the recall of Alfonso Gagliano as Canada’s ambassador to Denmark, the firing of three heads of Crown corporations and the launch of the public inquiry headed by Mr. Justice John Gomery. The Globes excellent coverage continued through 2004 and testimony before the inquiry indicated that the Globe’s initial access to information request played a key role in bringing sponsorship abuses to public attention. http://www.michenerawards.ca/english/finalists2005.htm
( The Michener Award, founded in 1970 by the late Right Honourable Roland Michener, then Governor General, goes to a news organization…)
……
Danial Leblancs work was also recognized by the 2002 National Newspaper Award:
Daniel Leblanc of The Globe and Mail set the tone for what was to be an awful year for the prime minister when he broke a story in January of the widespread patronage under public works minister Alfonso Gagliano. Fuelled by his own research and insider sources, Leblanc continued to expose the scandal. In May, he wrote that the auditor-general was about to suggest the RCMP should probe Ottawa’s ad contracts. He later got wind of another report, which had been largely suppressed, that revealed systematic overbilling in December by advertising firms and consultants. Judges said this kind of journalism is essential to the continued health of our democracy. >>> more

Anyone know anything about the chauffer’s personal life?
Just wondering if any female administrative staff ever go on these junkets?
Maz2, of course stories in the press forced Sheila Fraser, secretive auditor general, to come out with it.
It was squashing out from under the rug all over the place, so finally, out with it and apply back-spin.
But 12 years of not noticing Adscam was a pretty good run eh? That’s when Allan Coulter whisteled on False contracts he refused to sign off in Guite’s office.
Annual Libranos bonuses buy a lot of silence eh?

Pettigrew was on CTV Newsnet this morning and he told Marci Ian that Bruno was a body guard as well as a chauffer. He also said he feels each of his staff should know what his(PP) job is all about and so he felt the money was well spent.
Sheesh! Couldn’t they know that by reading a job description, instead of spending taxpayers money?
Oops! Stupid me! We’re talking Liberals here! Carry On!
Do I hear wedding bells?
Does anyone know if Bruno is still PP’s chauffeur?
If so and if we are to buy PP’s “bodyguard” story as reported on CTV, then I would suspect that Bruno would accompany him on every trip…unless PP wanted to take it upon himself to accept an incredible personal risk to save taxpayer’s money…a true Canadian.
I need to take a shower now!!
I foresee a senate seat for Bruno in the very near future, perhaps alongside Mila’s hairdresser.
This reminds me of the time, a few years back, when I worked for an always-news-worthy crown corporation whose president also felt that he required a chauffeur.
When he wasn’t driving the president around or busy chatting world politics with other staff in front of the corporate office, one of the important duties assigned to him was filing of office documents.
This certainly helped alleviate much needed time for some of those senior-level-secretaries-with-their-own-office, who would spend part of their day screening calls from the media, taking meeting notes & deleting/filing emails for the VP assigned-to-that-big-office-in-the-corner.
And if I recall correctly, a couple of days had been spent by more than a few, discussing & tweaking that chauffeur’s official job description to ensure that his job ‘fit’ within the actual salary range.
Of course everyone & anyone in the know, knows that these types of things will always work in your favour when youre married to a ‘somebody’ who just happens to be connected to another ‘somebody’ somehow connected to government.
wwltv.com reported today that a New Orleans congressman, while touring “his” district with the National Guard on the 2nd, asked them to stop by his house. He went in and retrieved various objects, but the vehicle got stuck while waiting. A chopper flying by dropped a rescue worker down, thinking they were stranded – they sent him back up to go rescue someone who really needed the help, and radioed to someone else in the Guard to come rescue them…
ooops
Sounds like Furio from the Sopranos. Duties include but are not limited to driving around the boss, collecting the cut from dirty money for the boss, twisting arms and breaking noses, threats as required, lining up the action for the night… Can now see why Joe Volpe got so upset when the Libranos magazine cover came out, appears he had been brooding for some time that the Liberal Party of Canada wasn’t listed in the Soprano show credits as authenticity consultants.
This doesn’t surprise me. No matter how much this cavalier Liberal largesse with our hard-earned dollars is exposed to light of day, they continue to thumb their noses at us and do pretty much as they please.
It is unacceptable. Time to call the hairy cab minister “Pepe lePettipew” or something.
I for one would like to have my money returned out of the pockets of those who have taken joyrides with it. It’s called “restitution” and I would recommend a new gov’t implement legislation requiring free-spending public officials to make restitution for the monies they wasted beyond the scope of their duties.
I have posted on my site re. new info on severe problems with Industry Canada’s Technology Partnerships Canada.
This to me stinks to high heaven and parallels, in fact, the Adscam fiasco.

I’ll believe it when I see Pettigrew’s coachman claim these trips on HIS tax returns….until then this is just more status quo ministerial expense padding…cummon guys, these are liberals!…if they’re still fogging a mirror they’re running a con on our dime.

Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson exercised ‘reserve powers’ during Liberal crisis

“You may be surprised and interested to know that I am really glad to have participated in (a minority government),” Clarkson said in a speech Wednesday, her largest final engagement and a farewell of sorts.
“My constitutional role has lain in what are called ‘reserve powers:’ making sure that there is a prime minister and a government in place, and exercising the right ‘to encourage, to advise, and to warn,’ ” she said.

Remember the movie “Full Metal Jacket” when all the hippie draft inductees were in line for the barber chair? How much money would YOU pay to see Pettigrew get a (long overdue) military style buzz cut?
All proceeds to the Liberal Party/Ad-scam legal defense fund.
Is this guy the quintessential “Frenchman” or what? Not quite as arrogant as the likes of say Trudeau, but it’s his John Kerry/Metrosexual persona that really gets my knickers in a twist.

Ah, when one sees the outlandish criticisms, “it gives one ferociously to think,” as we say.
Still!
The wonders of Paris! I remember as if it were yesterday, when Jean-Louis and I met at a quaint lingerie shop on the Champs-Elysees. Our tastes being so similar, soon he was a constant companion on the back of my Vespar motor scooter. So many sun-drenched days with Jean-Louis’s arms firmly clasped about my midsection. His charming beret perched on his head as we would disembark to discuss philosophy along the boulevards. Soon the conversation would turn to Lloyd Axworthy and Soft Power as someone would recall immortal lectures at the Sorbonne. The air would be thick with the sweet scent of Gaulois.
Of course Jean-Lous and I could not resist a marvelous touch of humor at times such as this. Verbally, we would be speaking of soft power, and yet our hands would be seeking one another’s privacy beneath the table. Ha-Ha! Ha-Ha!
“Le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ne connat point.”
Naturally, sometimes there was some necessary, incidental business in respect to the Canadian government. But Ah! When Jean-Louis and I would be speeding along in the shadows of the Sacre-Coeur when the streets were wet with rain, it made the distasteful distractions from the Canadian government all worthwhile.
Eskimo: one fears that getting your knickers in a twist might be Pepe le Grew’s goal.
Greg (outside Dallas): Brilliant. As de Gaulle might have described the government of Canada: “une chienlit”.
