Via local radio: the Supreme Court of Canada has suspended their decision to strike down the Quebec private health-care ban case for 12 months.
Put your hand up if this surprises you.
update – and that isn’t all. They’re going to revisit the decision;

Is there any doubt that the Supremes are keeping an eye on the signals from the corrupt federal Liberal government?
What have we for justice in this country?
Lord jumping jesus, knock some common sense into the lunatics that rule us!!
You know you’ve really become a banana republic when the long arm of government can diddle the SCC judges and get away with it. So, once again, it’s better to die waiting for care than relinquish control of healthcare to the individual requiring it. This is really too scary. I keep thinking that even if the Tories should win the next election, the Libs will try to have results overturned with the help of Elections Canada and various strategically appointed justices. At least most of the French reporters in today’s scrum re the new GG had the good sense to question PMPM’s motives. The rest of the MSM smiled and nodded approvingly, knowing they could be next.
Well I always tell people to go to the USA if they don’t like the wait here. Waiting makes it worse for most illnesses.
.. and with the retirement of John Major, plus the 2 Martin appointments who weren’t involved in the decision last time, plus the new Martin appointment which will obviously be politically motivated…
… the groundwork is laid for a reversal of the decision.
Um, courts delay decisions all the time so that they can be properly implemented. This is only a conspiracy if you know nothing about the law.
Translation of the following statement is:
Librano$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ agit/propaganda:
“This is only a conspiracy if you know nothing about the law.”
Librano$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Sorry to screw up this discussion with facts again, but it was the Attorney General OF QUEBEC that asked for the delay.
Hey Maz2. Thanks for your contribution. To wit, I work off and on for a Conservative pollster, I’ve only ever donated to the Conservative party, and I’ve only worked on Conservative campaigns. I’ve need Liberal money a lot less than you need to learn something about the law.
Though I do need to read my posts before I press send. Please ignore that last, mangled sentence.
Liberals hoping and scrounging around trying to get back in power so that they can shut this down.
Like I’ve said before every move they make now is about winning the next election… every single act, word said, dollar spent has only one purpose… putting them back into uncontested power!
This will not happen unfortunately for them.
Standard practice, whatever. I was expecting something like this. The SCC can’t make up it’s damn mind. And, Peter, surely you could CONCEIVE that there has been political pressure to make such a lengthy stay and revisiting of the decision, not just from the Quebec AG, but possibly also from Ottawa? You must admit it is POSSIBLE. Please don’t be an apologist for Paul Martin. That wouldn’t be a very sharp thing to do- defend Paul Martin.
From now on, whenever a lefty says something is decided ’cause the SCC has ruled on it; case permanently closed, I’ll remind them of this situation we’re now in.
I predict the SCC will indeed change its mind and we’ll be stuck with communist-style health care, the Charter notwithstanding (pun not intended).
Nothing like a knee jerk response a problem. For some reason most of the Conservatives believe that they would be better off PAYING BIG BUCKS OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKET for health care. If you really want to, the first time you need an operation or some such, just go to the States and PAY FOR IT THERE, and then come back and tell me how great it was to pay BIG BUCKS OUT OF YOUR OWN POCKET. Oh, and when you’re down there don’t forget to visit a few of the 45 MILLION people who can’t afford health care at all and tell THEM how lucky THEY are to be living in a country where Private Health Care Rules.
Oh, I see, some of you want Private AND Public. Well, the U.S. has something like that too. The Public is grossly inferior to the Private. Oh, that won’t happen here? We don’t have enough doctors as it is. Where do you think the majority will end up??? That’s right, in the Private sector where they have more freedom to charge what the market will bear. Don’t ya love free enterprise? So all the good doctors serve the rich and the left overs serve the rest of us. I do like your Conservative vision! Wow!
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Toronto Star had an accurate story about this yesterday in which the author argued the delay is basically so that the Liberals can preserve their election trump card — to claim that Alberta and the Conservatives want to destroy Canadian medicare with a two-tiered system. I wonder what kind of deal Martin and Charest will do in the next 12 months to come up with a Fed-Quebec “saving” of medicare? http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1123063926791&call_pageid=968256290204&col=968350116795
