Well, as you may have guessed, I am still experiencing IP problems. So, as the subject indicates, it’s a reader tips day.
Also – for the fairly large number of you who regularly send me tips privately, a bit of a checklist may help clear up my inbox, and save you the effort of sending me something 3 others have already shared:
1) I already read Nealenews, Drudge and Bourque daily. If the “tip” you’re sending me is up on one of those sites, I’ll either find it myself, or I’ve decided to skip it.
2) If you’ve spotted an item on 20 other conservative Canadian blogs, I’ve probably seen it and decided that using it is redundant.
3) Don’t feel badly if your tip isn’t used. I use about 1 in 10 – 15 sent my way.
4) Try to remember to include some hint as to the content of the tip in the subject line. I get a lot of spam, and subect lines like “Hey!” or “Kate, Look At This” stand a better than even chance of being deleted without being read.
5) Avoid sending attachments. Large image files are never downloaded here, much less opened.
6) Don’t send dated news reports/opinion articles, unless it relates to something of topical importance. I can’t count how many times I’ve spent time creating a post on an item, only to discover it was originally published 4 years ago.
7) You don’t need permission to link to or quote on of my posts. Just use the trackback function.
8) Let me know if you want your name used. Otherwise, I play it safe and default to anonymity.
And, please don’t take offense at these guidelines – I’m not complaining – just trying to improve effficency. On an average work day I sometimes have over 400 emails a day to scan!

On another matter, last week, I wondered what had become of Juliette O’Neil, the Ottawa Citizen reporter whose career was rudely interrupted when her placed was raided by the RCMP over security issues. Greg Weston of Sun Media e-mailed me on another matter, but did respond to my question about Juliette. Apparently she’s won every round so far in this case. Can’t help wondering if the RCMP were set on her to intimidate the media. I’d say they were successful. One would have thought that the outrage over her treatment would have forced all journalists in the country to take back their newsrooms from their Lib-centric employers. Oh well. Maybe there’s a few drops of the anarchist in me.

I am biting at the bit to hear more peoples thoughts on why Martin is holding back on passing the SSM bill.I suspect that waiting to pass it closer to a election call would divert negative reaction to the bills passing.

Working on this mini-laptop is painfully difficult – it measures 8 1/2″ wide, making functions like typing and even cut/paste very difficult.
It’s also old and slow (a pentium with Win95) and so even browsing with multiple pages open (often as many as 15) as per my habit, is a no-go).
Father Francis Geremia, a parish priest in Paul Martin’s riding says that the PM no longer deserves the sacrament of communion because of the SSM bill(Bill C38).
No word on whether the good Father would withhold the sacrament,or not, if the PM appeared at his church. What about the other Roman Catholic MPs from Quebec? I understand that the BLOC supports Bill C38. Surely thay can’t all be Orangemen. Some must be Catholic, so wouldn’t FR. Geremia’s reasoning apply to them.

Did anyone happen to watch CBC’s program this past Sunday night…a presentation of the same-sex marriage issue as it’s being discussed by pro groups in the U.S. (and Europe)?It is being compared to the historical prohibition of interracial couples of the 60’s. From my point-of-view, it was irresponsible reporting and timing. The program was very misleading – in that if Canadians didn’t know better (considering most voters do not do their homework) they would assume the situation described in this show, is the one that exists in Canada today, and is the position supported by Conservatives. e.g. Same-sex couples do not have access to each others benefits, pensions, etc. Of course the Conservative position on this issue is that the all couples have access to their spouse’s benefits etc. same-sex unions, common law heterosexual couples, married couples. In Canada, the only issue at debate is the re-definition of marriage to include same-sex couples. (Even my male gay friends in Toronto see no reason to re-define marriage – a civil union is great)

I’m a bit surprised and very happy with the tone of this news article. For once Harper’s getting some good press, and he’s simply telling it like it is. Straight and tough. I don’t think he’s going to change now. This is his reply to those in the party that want him to “change his image”. He’s basically telling them to get on side with him or get out. Same for the press. He’s no patsie and certainly no pushover. I hope he doesn’t take a single step back. Canada and Canadians need a tough talking, honest politician. I think they will come to like this guy.
Harper has more support than the media pretend. Watched Dale Goldhawk on CPAC yesterday, and lots of folks calling in lambasting media for their anti-Harper slant. Actually had the two journalists looking a tad sheepish. One old darling, who’s in Brison’s riding, actually told them to lay off Harper, he had integrity and intelligence, and then went on to say how much she hates Brison. Quite a few calls from Ontario echoing similar thoughts. SSM will be the Libs’ Waterloo.
