This is probably completely off-topic for SDA, but I was out with the camera yesterday and I captured the following specimens that I am unable to identify:
My wife — who is usually expert on this sort of stuff — is stumped too. Can someone help me out here?

Aaahh… aaahhhh….AAAAHHH … choooooowwwww
This one looks like the flowery thing:

Bloody good photography – call the thingies whatever you want.
probably something geneticaly modified that will soon consume the whole world.
Those stinkin liberanos! Now look where all that so-called R&D money went. Into creating useless, unidentifiable vegetation, that’s what!
Don’t expect any help from the MSM, they’ll likely as not blame it on that scary Frankenharper.
(Just trying to make the thread a little more on topic)
When I saw the other *expert* observations, I thought, what the heck. The blue ones are just beautiful. Reminds me of Foxglove without the spots, but the blooms are not in line up the stalk. The other looks familiar from the
Van. Isl rainforest here in BC. You are no doubt elswhere. Guess we all could have said… *hmmm, don’t know* 73sTG
the second one is a Liberal Snake-plant,
Triffids.
My father runs a greenhouse, my sister is a horticulturist. Me, I do computers. Got nothing.
Tell ya though, without a shot of the vegetation, not many will be able to identify them definitively.
The flowers don’t identify the plant distinctively, the vegetitation does.
Cheers,
lance
Frankenharper.
I like the sound of that. Sorry Mike, but I’m gonna have to borrow that sometime. (I’ll give you credit for it though in forthcoming arguments with pinko freinds and relatives). It’s a great hyperbole.
Oh heck yeah I forgot, the plant thingies. My wife is in Red Deer right now at the Alberta Hockey Association AGM, otherwise she’d tell you what it is exactly (generally she just tells me whether it’s mow-overable or not).
I would however, venture my guess that it is ok to run over it with the mower. The one looks like shepherd’s pusre and the other flowery thingie is probably a weed too.
Sean, the flower thingy closely resembles penstemon (beard tongue). Lance is right, it would be helpful to see a picture of the full plant. There are many varieties of Penstemon some are weeds.
As for the weed picture, I am stumped. Weeds are not my speciality. I can tell you for sure that it is not shepherds purse. Shepherds purse has distinctive heart shaped leaves or little purses.
Lance’s sister,
Cherie
Ordinarily I would have gotten better shots of the surrounding vegetation, but the bloody mosquitoes were eating me alive. I picked up over 60 bites inside of 5 minutes despite being covered from head to toe in DEET.
I had tried to lie down flat on the ground to get the vegetation, and promptly discovered the grass was loaded with ‘squitoes (which is why the left side of my face has little red dots all over it today).
What you see is all I’ve got of these two. Sorry folks. 🙁
I think the flower thingy is a wild bluebell but it’s really hard to tell.
