Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Maybe Grewal did go over to the Liberals and pretended to expose them, then intentionally mangled the tapes in order to destroy the conservatives. Or maybe not…
for immedate release re gurmat grewal tapes June 2 – it’s unreadable very tiny and faded – help – I do believe Grewal.
The liberals will do anything to stay in power, they lie, steal our money, etc., arrogant b-tards.
marianne
Choo Choo Man – Did you hear the kinds of accusations Dusanj was making?
He was accusing the CPC of manipulating the tapes, splicing in words out of context. He wasn’t saying just there is a little ping here and it seems like 46 seconds are missing.
He was in full spin mode and the media (CBC, CTV, then CPAC) played his whole rant over and over again all day.
he went so far as to say Stephen Harper was probably involved in falsifying the tapes.
He was accusing the CPC of more than a 46 second blip on copies.
He was trying to say that the whole tape was a dirty conservative conspiracy to defame him.
That’s why they called him crazy.
EB
The short answer to your question is that nothing about the latest story trumps the big story that you and the rest of the country should be rightly focused on. The problem is that the debate will now change from clinical questions/squirming answers to shrill yabuts. And nobody beats the Deputy PM at shrill debating. Massive opportunity wasted.
Harper has a problem in his office and he needs to get it fixed. It looks like Norquay from where I’m sitting.
Oh no! Sammy tore up his/her CPC card! Whatever will we do without him/her?
Puh-lease.
Oh, but the CPC’s entire credibility has gone down the drain, over a possible dubbing error. Nevermind that the Liberal’s have been caught stealing from Canadian, bribing opposition MP’s, and lying about it…but my GAWD! Grewal didn’t release the full tapes!
Am I missing something here? There does not seem to be anything here except an extension of the conversation that was already taking place.
If you tilt this thing on its side and squint your eyes really tightly and dim the lights, the optics could look bad.
However shine the bright light of day at it and put it in context with the circumstances surrounding it and really, what has changed??
Marianne, when I moved my mouse pointer over the document it changed from a pointer to a magnifying glass with a + sign. Then I clicked and it became legible.
Re: possible tape doctoring. Remember Michael Moore’s Farhenheit9-11? He doctored videos to make Condi Rice and GWBush say the exact opposite of what they actually said. I believe that’s what pple are worried about in this Grewal case.
Having said that, I really don’t understand why everyone’s beating up on Harper. Personally I can’t stand the guy, but I haven’t seen that he’s done anything wrong. The MSM and general public complain that he’s boring and has no charisma, but if he opens his mouth at all they complain he’s an “angry white guy”. PLEASE! CPC supporters should UNITE and throw the Libs out! I am truly stunned at the electorates patience with these proven liars!
Me thinks there’s a few people here trying to propagate conspiracy theory against the CPC to deflect attention away from the REAL problem …….. the damn thief’s running the country!!
Yes Rob – the Liberal Trolls are out tonight all over the Blog sphere.
The Liberals must be getting pretty nervous.
You can tell their talking points. Oh, and usually there is a little name calling.
Maybe the million dollar Gomery war room has now got a new mission.
Allison
Yes, he did make over the top allegations. And the corrections don’t jive with what he was saying.
But because they denied all day there was anything wrong with tapes and said they were pristine, they walked into his trap.
Now he can say “see I’m not crazy.”
Also, the CPC news release says when we were made aware of problems today we started investigating. They were made aware of problems YESTERDAY!!! And if they were seriously investigating, why were they standing behind the tapes all day instead of saying, “it’s under investigation.”
The Liberals should give their version of how all this came down. All I’ve heard is there’s nothing to it, the translation may be faulty, the tapes may be tampered with, etc. If the Liberals are blameless in this ordeal, why don’t they out with their version of what actually was said between their leadership and this man, and the true nature of their dealings. Were they collaborating to set up a clean syringe exchange in his neighborhood?
Did you here Dusanj, he was squeeling just like screeching Annie trying to convince everyone he was framed, when the initial release proves it all. …. as someone said here before….
arrrrggghhh … fetch me my torch and my rope, I’m headed for the hill…
I have personally run out of patience. When I saw Dosanjh tonight in full voice standing like a celebrity, just days after his smug dismemberment of our collective principle was heard by the nation, I realized at some final level that something is seriously wrong. It’s not about tactics and debate at this point. I have a growing feeling which makes it harder for me to listen to people who support the Liberals or their media gambits. That is my loss.
Why, oh why, or should I say HOW does the Liberal machine get away with a PM and other Cabinet Ministers who have provably lied, hundreds of times in and out of the the house day after day; and the headlines are about the Conservatives not fixing a technical glitch on a tape they had not condoned and did not intend to release in the first place until everyone started screaming for it.
This must be two-tier politics. Total clemency for the Libs and damnation for the rest.
Tom Penn,
They don’t have a defendable version…. Period..
Martin says he won’t let sponsorship scandal ruin party’s reputation ROSS MAROWITS
1 hour, 42 minutes ago
MONTREAL (CP) – The Liberal party’s efforts to rebuild its electoral fortunes in Quebec were reinforced Thursday evening with Prime Minister Paul Martin vowing not to let those responsible for the sponsorship scandal ruin the party’s reputation for rehabilitating the country’s finances.
“We, the Liberals, put our government finances in order,” he told a party fundraiser where an estimated 1,200 supporters each paid $500 to dine on grilled salmon.
“And we didn’t do it so that a group of people could tarnish the reputation of our party and cause people to lose confidence in our country’s political class.”
The Gomery inquiry, which Martin put in motion, concluded hearing from witnesses on Thursday, putting an end to damaging testimony from some of those implicated in the program. Justice John Gomery’s final report is due in December.
Prime Minister Paul Martin has promised to call an election within 30 days of the final report, which could put the expected voting day early next year.
But potential delays, some related to trials and court challenges, could push the date deeper into next year.
Martin, who said he understood the disappointment of Quebecers and Liberals caused by the scandal, vowed to subsequently introduce measures to prevent a repetition of such abuses.
“As prime minister, I will do everything in my power to ensure that your government deserves your respect.”
Transport Minister Jean Lapierre told the gathering that the event demonstrated that the Liberal party is financed openly and not behind closed doors.
“We have nothing to hide. Our books are open and our hands are clean,” said Martin’s Quebec lieutenant, who was joined at the event by cabinet ministers from across the country, including Conservative-turned-Liberal Belinda Stronach, who received a standing ovation.
“Tonight is the beginning of the reconstruction of the Liberal party throughout Quebec. We will rebound in Quebec thanks to the unwavering integrity of our leader, Prime Minister Paul Martin,” Lapierre said.
Recent opinion polls suggest, however, that the party faces an uphill climb to regain public support in Martin’s home province. The Bloc Quebecois has consistently received about 50 per cent of support in polls, suggesting it was headed to winning a record number of Quebec’s 75 seats.
The audience delighted in Martin’s attack on Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe and Conservative Leader Stephen Harper for their “underhanded dealings” that he said are threatening the country’s stability.
Martin said if Bloc MPs wanted to defend Quebec’s interests, they would have supported the budget, which contains millions of dollars in annual spending for the province.
“Their objective is to destroy the country,” the prime minister said. “And in that, they will never succeed.”
As for Harper, Martin questioned how the Tory leader can explain “his common agenda with the separatists.”
Martin said the interests of Quebecers have been defended by Liberal MPs, senators and ministers who have spearheaded Canada’s positions against participating in the U.S. anti-missile shield and in favour of ratifying the Kyoto protocol.
“Through its progressive ideals, its social values, and its innovative ways of doing things, Quebec plays a key role within Canada,” he said.
The Canadian federal system is flexible and allows provincial experimentation and creativity, Martin added, noting past efforts that produced pension plans and ongoing plans for early learning and child care.
Despite references to internal political battles, Martin spent much of his time outlining Liberal achievements over the past 12 years and the party’s plans for the future.
As prime minister, Martin said he will follow his record as finance minister and not run deficits as have the other members of the G8.
“We have learned a very important lesson from this period. We can no longer allow the government to live beyond its means.”
Notice – every time the Liberals are asked if they will release all of their phone logs and memos and any other details on the Grewal affair that they deflect the question; they do not answer the question and Scott Reid today actually squirmed on CBC Politics when his spin to turn over all of the evidence was turned on him.
Do you think the ethics commish, the RCMP , the media, the conservatives are going to get any of that evidence.
Nope. And, the media is not screaming for it either.
Check out Captain’s Quarters. He has some interesting opinions on this latest development.
Please, someone help, I’m very confused. Is there a problem with the original tapes that are supposedly now with the RCMP or is there a problem with the duplicate copy?
Allison,
That’s the leftist agenda, to minimize the right wherever possible. You see it from the trolls all the time…. ignore it, move on, and spread the good word… period….
Libs are crooks and thief’s, and have to go down… nuff said.
Copy and paste the jpg into Microsoft Word. Works excellent.
Says that 2 passages were omitted due to a technical glitch. It is very specific. They provide text of the missing parts.
Dosanjh was complaining parts were missing which appears to be true The Tories are guilty of a technical glitch. I must tear up my CPC card now.
Annette,
The originals are fine, it’s the duplicates that got messed up, which is VERY common.
Liberal noun: A person so open minded there brains have fallen out.
Allison and EB
I’m not going to disagree with you that there is two-tier media coverage and the Conservatives are held to much higher standard than the Libs.
It’s just frustrating when I see the Conservatives hand a loaded gun to the Liberals and the media for a whole day like this.
Sorry folks, off topic but I saw Paul Martin in front of a microphone today, does anybody else think he looks like Droopy the Dog? You know, that caroon dog. I’m serious, Paul Martin is Droopy.
There ya go. Paul says it’s ok now. Trust him one more time. What was the definition of insanity? Something like doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. The Canadian electorate (read Ontario) is clearly insane.
Well, thanks to Martin and his bandits in clown suits, The Bloc objective are closer to reality than ever. Harper has a common agenda with the separatists? Huh? Harper does not have any control whatsoever over how the Bloc MPs vote. Never has, never will. So because both parties voted the same way on the confidence motion, they have a common agenda to destroy the coutry? I think maybe no.The only common agenda between the CPC and The Bloc is the desire to remove a bunch of stinking greaseballs in clown suits from power. Not a bad idea.
Rob, Thanks for clarifying that. If the originals are pristine what the hell is all the fuss about?
I told ya’ll… It’s a seed…
The Bloc voted with the Liberals today on a motion. The Liberals are now in bed with the Bloc. Together they are going to destroy the country.
Oh wait – together they both almost have.
The NDP voted with the Conservatives.
Was he cheating on his new mates, the Liberals?
There sure is a lot of sleeping around.
Annette, you tell me? …. The initial release has them GUILTY .. GUILTY .. GUILTY .. GUILTY ..
Just some people like to create deflection away from that point. It’s usually MSM and trolls…
Looks like Sammy’s had a busy night. See the four relevant comments on this post on Mr. Taylor’s blog …
http://www.stephentaylor.ca/archives/000268.html
“The Bloc voted with the Liberals today on a motion. The Liberals are now in bed with the Bloc. Together they are going to destroy the country.”
I’m outraged !!! The Librano$ in bed with the separatists … My god! … were doomed, how could they do that… they obviously have a hidden agenda!
I personally see Mr. Magoo, Vin, but I see your comparison.
People: Calm down. The regular bloggers are too close to the issues of the day. We need to start thinking more as an ordinary, and yes sometimes clueless, Canadian voter. We know that the Liberals got caught stealing money in something called Adscam. We know that Mr. Martin has turned from fiscal moderate to mind numbing spendaholic. We know that the heartless bitch Belinda broke poor Peter’s heart. We know that Mr. Martin and the Liberal party will do just about anything to stay in power, and these tapes prove it.
What I’m trying to say is that the public won’t remember a 46 second gap in the recording. They will remember another layer having been exposed of the Liberal tarnished coat of paint. Nothing the MSM can do will change that. Now, will it make people stampede to the Conservative? No, and goof ups like today won’t help. (I agree with the Norquay comment. Where’s Lynn Maheux these days?)
But, remember we are an ordinary Canadian. These layers become too much to ignore. Today, I spoke with a person with some Liberal knowledge in my riding, the kind of person who would “walk over broken glass” to vote Liberal. He has reached his tipping point, and will not support them under Paul Martin.
This is a long haul now that an election is probably not going to happen until winter. No side is going to come out of this crisis with it’s hands clean. All that can be done is to keep exposing layers of depravity of the Liberal party.
Sensible medicine, A.Cooper.
This whole situation has made me sick to my stomach.
If Canadians arent scratching their heads at this point, thinking something is dreadfully wrong with our political system, they truly deserve the corrupt regime we are presently governed by.
It almost makes me yearn for Joe Clark to make another return to politics. Someone slap me!
Electing the Conservatives would be the lesser of two evilsanything to be rid of the Liberals at this point. However, I think there needs to be a fundamental rethinking of the checks and balances of government.
Although I am an Ontarian, I have great sympathy for sovereigntists in both Quebec and the West this evening. This nation cannot survive this ethical morass.
I can only hope and pray that if the Conservatives do get the opportunity to govern, they dont mess up their chance.
Future Truth
In a comment to my previous post Shameer Ravji writes:
Quite honestly, both sides seem as if they can’t be trusted
And on the surface, how this is playing out in the media and how the opposition has managed this event does make it seem a little s…
Interesting that Dosanjh intially deferred from comment becuase he handn’t really listned to the tapes (ya right) Then when he apparently has listened he is able to identify that there are portions of the converstation missing. About seven short sentences over the course of 4 hours (and that is just what was recorded). This guy must have a mind like a steel trap. No wonder it only takes him 5 minutes to prepare for Question Period)
Looks to me like Ujal knows exactly what he said all along, tape or no tape.
Cooper has it bang on. FWIW, the CTV national news coverage here placed the “altered tape” story next to last on the broadcast, gave it three sentences, the last being that the Conservatives agreed and had released a statement explaining it was a technical glitch.
Id guess that is all that the majority of Canadians have heard about the issue today.
NOW – to the nattering ninnies complaining about how this so-called gaffe has damaged the Conservatives, blah blah blah…
It wasn’t so long ago that the complaint was that Stephen Harper had let his foot off the throat of the Liberals and allowed them to escape the non-confidence vote on the budget.
You’re all a bunch of goddamn Monday morning quarterbacks, in my opinion. (The petty complainers, that is).
Stop screaming at these people over their tactics. Stop telling them what they shouldn’t have done. It’s not like you laid out the perfect game plan and they ignored it, eh?
Whatever you do, stop advising them to forget the tapes and work on blah blah blah.
This is another foot, back on the throat. Let them play it out and see what happens, and remember that no tactic, no strategy, ever comes with a guaranteed outcome.
And that when outcomes do not transpire as you hoped, it is not necessarily the sign of an error or stupidity. It may just be that there was no win in the cards.
What I just posted on Stephen Taylor’s site:
“I can’t decide whether to be really bugged at what appears to be CPC bungling of the issue (i.e. allowing the Libranos even a 1/2 inch of room to squirm out some sort of spin) or thrilled that you guys are really lousy at being sneaky, slimey and manipulative.
Tough call.”
Check, check, one two
OK, everyone. Who can tell me what shitfire storm the CPC was enduring 13 days before handing over the taped evidence to the police?
A Cooper – the BS defection?
“”he’s missed the tape of a two-hour conversation with me in my home,” Dosanjh said.”
So does this mean that Dosanjh *knew* he was being recorded?
It’s really irresponsible of the so-called audio “expert” to agree to analyse COPIES!!! An accurate analysis can ONLY be made with the ORIGINALS! This is so definitely a red-herring.
Anyone care to speculate about a “what if the tapes are shown to be intact and that the recording faults onto the CD’s are a in fact a reality (truth)” scenario?
If it were to happen, I would hope that the MSM finally picks up on this once and for all as proof that the Liberals are indeed “dark and scary.” The Liberals will have egg on their face like at no other time in Canadian history, their position truly exposed as indifensible. Or am I just wishfully thinking? Hmmm, the prospect of such a scenario is dreamily tantalizing.
oooops, I just remembered, the tapes are with the RCMP. Guess we may never know…
Wow, lots of action last night, sorry I missed it.
Nothing changes substantially from the copies.
In sme ways its a lucky hit from Dosanjh. He raised the possibility of “alteration” and lo and behold there were some copying errors….cest la vie, suck it up and move on.
Do I wish this didnt happen, sure, prisitine clear evidence and arguments are best. Dont dismiss the importance of having to backtrack, remeber OJ’s way out was from those stupid errors on evidence.
BUT, this stuff happens so issue the release, like they did, explain it, like they did and go back at your points.
Foot on the throat is the operative analogy. I find even the MSM didnt give the liberals much coverage on the “doctoring” claim. And dosanj (sp) is squirming. I am curious as to why he is so much the front man?
1) either he wants to be to clear his name
2) No one else will step forward to be point
Murphy is nowhere to be found, he was always a back office guy anyway.
Agreed the will stonewall their way through until it isnt tenable anymore…that is likely IF the RCMP ever start a criminal investigation and/or the ethics commissionar takes up the charge…bit that is a whole other story since he is apparently a well intentioned man who is in WAY over his abilities.
“Some of Martin’s cabinet loyalists are now quietly questioning whether their loyalty to him is in conflict with their duty to the country and so probably should the rest of us.”
Chantal Hebert – The Star.

Down with Paul Martin’s Socialist regime.
Senior Lib. wants Dosanjh & Murphy to be suspended until an investigation takes place.

I love it. The Liberals are raising the bar again. And the media are more than happy to go along with it.
What’s the level of conduct and amount of proof that’s required to cast judgement on our current governement? I think we are at “absolute conclusive, more than beyond reasonable doubt that criminal acts (improper, unethical, irresponsible or just plain morally wrong doesn’t come close) have been proved in a court of law.”
Yup, that sounds about right.
What’t that? We’re getting close to meeting that……..better raise it again to……….”that criminal acts causing death have been committed.”
There, that’s better.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha that’s rich….another Liberal “investigation” into their long, wide spoor trail of corruption.
If there is one thing you can say about this Liberal cartel, it’s that they never leave us with surprises…genetically imprited to decieve and manufacture “an acceptable degree of deniability”.
Get a rope and some torches!!
I wouldn’t put too much weight into these so called members of the liberal caucus questioning their allegience to Martin. This happens every time there is a scandel and then like sheep, they back their leader. Besides, if it took them this long to finally question their leaders integrity then there is no hope for them, they’re just like him.
Perspective everybody. Two glitches in a COPY aren’t exactly Rosemary Woods!
1. Dosanjh invested what remains of his credibility in the assertion that parts of the tape have been deleted, inserted, and in general moved around. The public will now accept no other defense from him as a result and he is toast. He now has LIBERAL MPs demanding that he step aside.
2. While the CPC was reviewing the copying process MacKay was out in from of the press reminding everyone that the original is pristine and in the hands of the RCMP.
3. The additional words change squat.
4. Never underestimate the laziness and stupidity of the MSM. The minute they got the CP story about glitches on a COPY of the tape, they had their inches and minutes of ‘news’. In a headline referencing the CPC press release, the Post lede is “Grewal tape incomplete, Tories say”. Um, copy of tape?
5. The extra coverage arising is only bad news for the Liberals. They wanted this story to be fully aired over a week ago and it is still developing legs.
6. Notwithstanding Inky, Grewal never should have had the meeting or recorded them, nor should he have done either without consulting the leadership. Kudos to Harper for stopping him from meeting with and recoding the PM (although it would have been great fun to listen to).
7. In return for telling the whole truth to the party Grewal should be nailed to the back benches and defended publicly. If held anything back from the party he needs to sit next to Mr. Cadman.
YMMV
