War! For Kilgour!

Defence Minister Bill Graham was wrong!

“We cannot invade Sudan. It requires United Nations action … it requires political as well as military and aid matters” – May 6, 2005

Canada can invade the Sudan after all!

Canada said on Friday it would go ahead with plans to send military advisors to Sudan’s troubled Darfur region despite Khartoum’s insistence that it did not want the troops to enter the country.
Martin spokeswoman Melanie Gruer said Canada needed the approval of the African Union for the troops’ deployment rather than that of Sudan.
‘It’s up to the African Union to get Sudan’s approval’

Oh. So it’s up to the African Union to do our invading. Well, that’s more like it…

“There is no change to the plan. We will send what we said we were going to send,” she said.

Yeah – or we’re going to get those other guys to make you let us.

  1. Did no one tell the liberals that they don’t have a democratic mandate to rule Sudan either??

  2. When will we hear the cries of “No Blood for Kilgour”?
Funny how principles vanish when you need votes. All that principled posturing on Iraq and we you need a vote it’s poof!

  3. The “principled posturing” by Chretien/Martin/Librano$ was for “votes”.
Now the Librano$ can/cannot invade Sudan.
    Just for “votes”, “principled” “votes”.
    Down with National Socialism.
    Long live freedom and democracy.

  4. The Tories ignore Sudan and that is so sad. Sudan is not a political pawn for Tories or a joke. Can’t you losers look past your own political ambition?

  5. yes, I was being sarcastic with the “principled posturing”.
We now know that Paul Desmarais and Maurice Strong’s fortune were in jeopardy if the Iraq liberation went ahead. THat was the real reason for Canada’s position

  6. “Sad Tories”, Don’t gimme that liberano$ care about Sudan crap. If they cared, they would have done something in the UN for the last 2 years. They DID NOTHING, and now they send a measly 100 troops where WILL DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I am a former Canadian Infantry Officer and I can tell you with absolute certainty that 100 troops under vague rules of engagement, and a hostile ruling foreign guv are a recipe for the death of said soldiers. Get a life, leftie.

  7. It’s even worse! The National Post is reporting that the troops sent to Sudan won’t be armed! Paul Martin is willing to send our soldiers to a war zone without even a handgun in order to try to save his government. This is surely the most vile act a Canadian Prime Minister has ever performed.
The Post article isn’t online for some reason, but I’ve transcribed the relevant section on my blog.

  8. Sad Torie I’d be proud of my counry if we helped Sudan in a good way. Our leaders are using our soldiers as political chess pieces. Last year PM said Sudan was not our resonsibility. I don’t believe our government has the political will to see this through to the end if our soldiers get killed. I also don’t believe they have the conviction to support this properly.

  9. As I said, recipe for disaster. It will be like the contingent of Belgian peacekeepers in Rwanda. THey will be sorting body parts for weeks on the return home.
We can ask the US bloggers to take up a collection of used hadguns and send them to the deployed Canadian troops.
I keep telling people I know that we should completely disband our military forces. Those who know my background wonder why I think that. This disgrace that is being visited on the colours of our regiments is completely unwashable. Better to disband with honour than waste away with dishonour. What a disgrace the liberals have visited to us.

  10. This could get even worse. Martin can now promise to send every single Canadian soldier to Darfur. After all, Kilgour can’t blame him if Khartoum won’t accept the offer. It wouldn’t even be out of liberal character to have bribed (increased aid money) the Sudanese to just say no.
And Sad Torie, save the moaning that I’m impugning the Sudanese gov’t. Any leader who tolerates the atrocities being inflicted on the people of Darfur has no claim to moral high ground.
Aside from the ugly politics, it is foolhardy to contemplate sending a small contingent into such a situation and monstrous that they could be unarmed!

  11. I have never replied to any comment before but I have emailed by federal MP and voiced my comments on this stupid idea of sending troops to Sudan. I would urge all readers to email their MP’s also. They might never get an answer,or the MP’s might not have a job next week, but it never hurts to plant a seed in their little brains that we Canadians do not approve of unilateral intervention in another country’s civil war

  12. i hate to say it, but; das fuhrer said he was concentrating our forces budget towards Darfur(not counting afghanistan), shortly after bush asked him for help in iraq.
Seeing as 100 advisers is what our military budget allows, it’s safe to politically say that martin is keeping his word(heh).

  13. Senor Rat, I don’t remember that particular Paulie promise.
Friends of mine working at NDHQ plans told me that they were asked to create a logistical plan for Iraq. We were all set to get to Iraq until the polls went the otherway. They were then asked to double the numbers and send then to Afghanistan instead. We could not have supported a Darfur mission at that time.
Sending 100 unarmed soldiers into a hot zone like Darfur is completely foolish and insane.
I am glad I got out when I did. I don’t mind giving my life, but giving it up for a f-ing idiot (like PMPM) is another thing altogether.

    Bravo to capt joe.
Those who care, should visit the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website. Spend 2 hours plus on a tour. Bookmark the site; show your children Canada’s sacrifices by a different generation.
Weep with me for a Canada lost.
    Lest We Forget.

  15. Well, capjoe, it’s questionable whether it was a promise or a political burp. These are commonly traded in the liberal speak pseudoreal atmosphere of ottawa.
martin may have used this as an excuse to evade Bushs need for troops in Iraq or he was serious in his defence of africans.
martin did say that afghanistan, haiti and other demands on the military stressed us to the breaking point, and Darfur was where our military pennies would go in the near future.
This was maybe, roughly a year or so before.

  16. So we’ve had:
    The Boer War
    The First World War
    The Second World War
    The Korean War
    etc
Can w call this one “The Kilgour War” ?

  17. “Pathetic. Just frigging pathetic.” Post 1 by Shaken said it all.
With valuable input from Capt Joe that verifies our shared opinions.
I always hate to comment on a story that tends to criticize our people in the forces because I realise they are trying to do an honourable job against overwhelming odds (political interference and funding apathy).
In a previous post I suggested that the mission would take forever to get off the ground because canada would need to seek UN approval. I would never have considered that the Lieberals were so incompetent as to ignore discussing the mission with the host government.
Bananada indeed. Delusions of grandeur and capability where none exist.
