Capitalism Delivers What Socialism Promises

The cartoon character known as AOC shared more of her “wisdom” with attendees of the South by Southwest festival:

“Capitalism, to me, is an ideology of capital. The most important thing is the concentration of capital, and it means that we prioritize profit and the accumulation of money above all else, and we seek it at any human and environmental cost… But when we talk about ideas like democratic socialism, it means putting democracy and society first, instead of capital first; it doesn’t mean that the actual concept of capitalistic society should be abolished.”

Some more sober Democrats have already seen the writing on the wall.

  1. One of the reasons I don’t support intervening in Venezuela is because the socialism the people voted for is the socialism the people have. May the rest of the world understand that.

      1. This is just the logical end for people that reject the concept of objective truth. Being hoisted on their own petard…

  2. Capitalism would bring much greater rewards to the working classes if the government would quit driving down the price of labour by importing an unlimited quantity of cheap labour from shithole countries. The shithole world has gained most of the benefits of the industrial revolution of the last 50 years. Other than toys, I am not convinced that the western world is much better off than in 1970.

  3. I vastly prefer ‘free enterprise’.

the reason leftists substitute ‘capitalism’ is to emphasize its negative aspects, one of which is ‘capitalism’ is its OWN worst enemy. extreme concentration of wealth inexorably leads to more of the same; money is like mass drifting in space, it clumps together, the more it clumps the more it clumps in a vicious circle ending up in ‘black hole$’

to me, ‘free enterprise’ implies a robust regulatory system and rule of law, thus true innovation results in a proportionate reward. ie REMOVE the ‘cost of doing business’ graft and bribery etc.

leftists know this, thus their fav phrase ‘capitalism’ and all those implications,
    implied, subconscious or otherwise.

    1. Agreed, capitalism is Marxist terminology which fools people into a monolithic, deterministic view of business as big and bad.

I have no problem regulating the excesses of big business to some extent, but that is not what happens.

The crony capitalist is not a capitalist at all because they employ risk arbitrage with government as their fiscal safety net.

It is only they, and their sycophants in government, the arts and the media, who benefit from overregulation and taxation.

Big business uses government to force preference for their products and services on the public without their consent.

There is no creative destruction, just destruction. No matter, the “rich” still more than carry their tax weight.

Tax fairness is but a euphemism for nailing the job creators, calling them greedy capitalists fit only to be milked, when they are free enterprisers, whom the loafers envy and covet their stuff, so rob them and us in the process being the parasites they are.

Free enterprise, individualism, small business, the voluntary sectors (vrs the compulsory/coercive state) – call it anything but capitalism which plays into the left’s false narratives.

The neo-capitalists, btw, are just fine with the neo-bourgeoisie now that they have become rich. Now they covet cheap labour, poor benefits and lost of surplus value of labour for their rich and famous lifestyles, joined at the hip with state cronies.

Big business, big labour, big government. Ditch them all in favour of limited, good government that does not play favourites.

  4. The primary characteristic of socialism is that it cannot exist outside of a government. It can only exist within government.

(This is why leftists and socialists work their way into government.)

It cannot exist on its own as capitalism / the free market can.

Socialism is, therefore, a governing mechanism, not an economic model. It is a style of government.

As a governing mechanism, it IMPOSES its will on the society that the government is governing and therefore it imposes its will on the society’s economy.

Socialism, therefore, can NEVER be democratic because it is powered by government. In fact, it is the opposite of democracy.

  5. Now that The Spawn has dumped JWR, AOC should move north and Justine would be happy appoint her into his “demon-cratic socialist party once known as the Liberals.

After all, it’s 2019, Canada is already Socialist and being a woman from an ethnic group and all….she would be perfect.

  6. > Someone smarter than me said,” There is no Socialism without Capitalism”!

  7. Socialism’s public promises, and globalism’s in general are indeed empty. But those are not its real goals.

It does deliver on its real promises to the elect for a while—untold wealth and idleness, with carte blanche to slaughter anybody who ever “triggered” them and amuse themselves carrying out their horrifying sexual fantasies on the young children of the “capitalists.”

Lawrence Beria was the perfect example. He never tired cruising Moscow in his limo looking for girls to rape and murder.

Mass death is not an unfortunate side-effect of socialism. It is the whole point of socialism. It is a symptom of a serious and incurable mental disorder whose sufferers are sexually aroused by murder.

Capitalism can deliver on the closest thing to a cure—building closed institutions in which to house the socialists, where they can never harm an innocent person again.

  8. If SDA had an Annual UnMe Award (just a hint Kate…), presented to the individual whose stupidity reached the widest audience in a year, Loco Chiquita would be a sure winner.

    1. Like Donald Trump : he donates his entire salary as POTUS to charity.

Does that make him a socialist?

      1. No. It makes Donald Trump a philanthropist.
A socialist is someone who takes your money and distributes it to someone else.

  9. “But when we talk about ideas like democratic socialism, it means putting democracy and society first…”

There’s always an essential semantic tension when you bolt certain politicized words together e.g., social justice and, in this case, democratic socialism. Question for Ocasio-Cortez: Which comes first – democracy or socialism?

  10. Karl Marx didn’t invent the word capitalism but he popularized it. It’s a term for what naturally happens when free people are left to their own devices. I’ve been playing a little game for a while now, whenever I see a quote with the word “capitalism” I substitute the word “freedom” in order to clearly understand what is being said. When a slimy politician says “we must destroy capitalism” they’re really saying “we must destroy freedom”.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights says ” Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others.
..No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.” End of story, “capitalism” is officially a universal human right.

    1. I agree but simply generalize capitalism as it has become known under Marx, who had no original ideas anyway.
He died at age 64, but millions and millions have subsequently died in the name of his power grabbing, determinist fallacies.
All of it facilitated and carried out by what Lenin called his useful idiots, of whom AOC is a charter member.
She should inform herself Lenin also said their naïve idealists were the first one he would execute.
Once socialists are forced to divvy up the shrinking pie amongst themselves is when the real bloodbaths get going in earnest.
Socialism takes society on a one way path towards totalitarianism that must go forward only, depravity and all.

  11. She’s a nitwit. However, for a long time I’ve believed that we need to stop using the term capitalism. It’s a Marxist pejorative and using the terms of your enemies makes no sense. We have a free market economy (hopefully).

  12. CAPITALISTs or would be free enterprisers talk a big story but in all reality cannot defend the philosophy either from ignorance or apathy. Anyone who think ‘progressive thought or socialism or communism’ is led by the ill informed or ignorant had better wake up. This effort is very directed and frankly they are winning. Maybe they should. They control education, media and government infrastructure. The ebb and flow of their progress means little as they will win on a demographic basis alone.

Little doubt in my mind that this effort is directed by communist dictatorships who have the money and continuity of purpose that will see them through. Where the USA was once a bastion of global defense it is being hollowed out from within.

    1. Absolute dictatorship is always the goal of the self-righteous intellectual busy-body. And they become the willing servants of totalitarian dictators. Eg. Red guards under Mao in the cultural revolution. Tyranny, thy name is ignorant youthful zeal. But she, at 28 and a university education, should know better.

    2. Exactly. This is a 6/7 decades long birth of the well incubated ideology that has reared its monstrous head so openly recently. Yuri Bezmenov warned us that this was happening and people like Saul Alinsky did the inculcating.

AOC says, “Stop trying to navigate systems that weren’t built for you. We need to build new systems.” That is code for a dictatorship of the proletariat.

Whenever I hear her speak as enthusiastically as she does it reminds me of Lenin’ speeches haranguing the welcoming crowds at the various stops during his triumphant return to Petrograd in April 1917.

Do not underestimate the appeal that she and Bernie are generating among the people.

  13. This woman really is flattered by all the attention her juvenile insights are receiving. I hope no one breaks the spell 🙂

  14. If Trump started his prayers with “please God” I’m sure he’s changed them to “thank-you God”.

  15. What? She is dangerous…ready to change parties already….Hillary better stay out of her way….AOC may run against Trump for the Republican ticket, or his VP…..She is a player

  16. The latest example of the death cult aka socialism in Venezuela in its fourth day of no power; how long before it be declared a criminal credo.

  17. These idiots like AOC are blind to how the world works. Even Marx acknowledged that you can’t have Socialism without Capitalism coming first. Someone has to do the heavy lifting and create the wealth that the Socialist state parasitcally lives off for as long as it can.

  18. From Quillettte:

    The Clear Case for Capitalism

    https://quillette.com/2019/03/10/the-clear-case-for-capitalism/

This piece is first rate, covering all the key bases. It is calm and refreshingly devoid of polemics; because of this, it might be worth passing on to intelligent kids/g’kids who may be responding positively to the siren call of socialism and/or socialist friends who may be open to an intellectual challenge.

A bit long: Quillette features mostly longer form articles.

  19. I think that nuquita krushchev is more than the proverbial “flash in the pan”. She has everything new yawk (city and state) stands for. She is anti-business, anti-life and pro-income re-distribution. She and her supporters can go piss up a rope.

  20. at the very *least*, this starkly shows the difference between powah aka leftist thugs and their hired enforcers be it military or cops, and REAL power aka electric power that makes E-V-ER-Y-T-H-I-N-G run on time, smoothly, reliably.

let them stew. let the sob venezuelans who jumped out of the pot into the fire jump back into the pot and STEW.
so the rest of the world can yet again learn what happens in a ‘free stuff’ political-economic environment which then turns into
    a very predictable FREE-for-all.

let them stew a while longer. the sad truth is the deaths of innocents NOW can stave off a thousandfold in the future if
enough dumfcuks LEARN THE GODDAMN LESSON PLAYING OUT LIVE ON TV.

  21. I’ve tried to break myself of the habit of using the word, “Capitalism”.
It’s a word, coined by Marx to make The Free Market System sound dirty.

The free market is about freedom. It’s the most natural thing in the world. One person exchanging what they have for something the other person has. Both gain, because both trade something they don’t want for something they do want.

In a free market system, you can grow tomatoes and trade them for money, or work for a farmer to help him grow tomatoes, he sells them for money, and pays you for your time. Everybody is happy because we all get what we want.

But somehow the marxists see it as wrong if the farmer hires a bunch of people, grows bunches of tomatoes, and feeds bunches of people, while keeping a portion of the money for himself. They somehow see something immoral in that.
