The Vatican News website celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Communist Revolution in Cuba. That is the revolution people flee from at risk of being eaten by sharks. It is the one that impoverished the entire country except for the few elites and made Cuba a dark and dismal place. That revolution.

The Pope is a Socialist, who “treasures” Socialism. Christ did not call us to Socialism, he called us to COMPASSION. And the notion that Socialism is “more compassionate” than Liberty, personal Freedom, and Capitalism is utter nonsense. What is more compassionate than giving men their FREEDOM!!? Christ said he came to teach men the TRUTH … and that TRUTH shall set you Free!! Trading a “free” loaf of government bread, for your own personal FREEDOM is about as anti-Christian as I can imagine.
So central was Christ’s message of man’s FREEDOM that he said he didn’t come to ADD to God’s Laws … or abolish God’s Laws … but to set us FREE. He taught us that ONLY when we understood God’s Laws in our hearts, as Free people … could we become the people God designed us to be. Again, where our hearts are … there is our treasure. If we do not treasure God’s words in our hearts … we do not understand God.

I try to be … however … I am being quite sincere in my praise of our NME. He is quite right on most subjects, and I find myself in agreement with him more often than not. And his often humorous posts have an obvious intelligence behind them. But we all have our blind spots and habits that are hard to overcome. NME has obviously been wronged, offended, or is simply revulsed by some KKristians (hint: sometimes, I am too … like with this current Socialist Pope). God knows that B.A. and I are revulsed at what has become of the Lutheran Church.
Some time ago, I pledged to LOVE my NME … and at the very least … illustrate for him that his bitter view of KKristians (or whatever) is understandable, yet distorted out of common sense. Some people, KKristian or not … are simply hard to take. But that says LESS about Christianity or God than it does about HUMAN nature. As I noted above … Christ has set us FREE … which includes FREEDOM to be foolish, annoying, or WORSE. I suspect my NME got … WORSE … from Christian(s) he encountered. I am trying my best NOT to be another of the WORST Christians he’s encountered.

At one time, when I was studying Comparative Government in college, I had a Professor of Latin American government who was an open Communist and an open advocate of the Cuban Revolution. I took his class not because I agreed with his politics but because I expected to learn and did learn a great deal about political movements in the area. When I first heard that Jorge Bergoglio would become Pope Francis, I knew he would be trouble. A Jesuit from Argentina is for all practical purposes indistinguishable from a Communist. That’s who they are; that’s what they do. The professor unintentionally convinced me that Latin America was eternally hopeless. As the President of Mexico Porfirio Diaz said of Mexico 100 years ago “Poor Mexico, so far from God, so close to the United States”, so it applies to the rest of Latin America. The Catholic Church was in trouble before Bergoglio became Pope, but he has turned out to be about what I expected. They poured gasoline on the fire.
