Like Father, Like Son

Justine and the Lieberals are convinced that Albertans are stupid. They’ve convinced themselves that Alberta can forever be treated as a welfare province, dependent on Daddy Ottawa-bucks to keep them afloat:

On top of killing Northern Gateway, Kenney also points out that Trudeau’s government “also killed the Energy East pipeline, further land-locking Alberta’s resources.”

By having nowhere to go, Alberta’s oil is selling at a huge discount compared with the benchmark West Texas Intermediate — and actually fell to a devastating $11 per barrel last month. Premier Rachel Notley announced that starting in January oil output will be curtailed, which immediately helped raise Alberta oil prices, but the differential is still huge, costing the Canadian economy about $80 million every day.

In other words, the differential, caused by a lack of pipelines (which is a federal responsibility) will cost $1.6 billion in just 20 days. Put that in your government’s cancelled pipes, Minister Sohi.

    1. Yes, confiscatory taxes, given to other jurisdictions in equalization, then some crumbs returned to AB. The Trudeau way.

  1. And of course the CBC took time off from its Ford is Hitler stories, to have its expert on everything Michael Coren on last night. He explained to the peasants that no pipe lines should ever be built in Canada.

      1. Which is why he is suddenly acceptable at CBC when he was considered crazy during his stint at the late lamented Sun TV

      2. Coren is just an actor. His “opinions” will always match those of whoever is signing his paychecks.

      3. Ken, Coren fell off the deep end just about the time his Son came out of the closet and told Daddy he was gay. Coren penned a column at that time telling the world how he’d just experienced an epiphany and no longer embraced the conservative view.
A year later, he denied his son’s coming out had anything to do with his conversion. Perhaps Coren has sexual issues of his own that is contributing to his madness.

Most people in later life convert from liberalism to conservatism as they recognize the sophistic thinking of liberalism. Coren went the opposite way.

        1. I believe I also read that after years of undying support of the Catholic Church he has abandoned the Catholic faith. Probably for its lack of support for the gay community.

    1. I remember the old Frank poked fun at him some 20 years ago. I don’t remember how it referred to him, but I believe it was a rude play on his surname.

      1. Back in the 80’s Coren was a Frank scribbler. He wrote a very funny weekly column under the by-line ‘Asthete’.

The 80’s parliament had characters. Not just muldoon and pet but John Crosby, Sheila, Joe Who etc.

It was in my opinion Coren’s finest hour. A book of his Frank articles was published under the name of Asthete. You sometimes see it used.

Coren then tried to reinvent himself as a serious religious thinker. I think he might have fancied himself as a T.S. Elliott type. Unfortunately he had little religion or philosophy in him and he quickly began to toss about looking for a religion he could fit into. I think he ended up in the church of the easy answer….United

        1. He wrote a very funny weekly column under the by-line ‘Asthete’.

That sounds familiar and might be what I was thinking about.

          1. It was satire and he was very good at it.

Because he had a by-line (nobody wrote for Frank under their own name) the readers didnt know who actually wrote Asthete.

Coren had no public profile in the 80’s.

  2. Liberals care about one thing and one thing only and that’s Quebec. It is the reason the LPoC exists. Anyone outside of Quebec who votes for the Liberals is a traitor to Canada.
If Quebec had oil there’d be pipelines radiating out from it like a spider web.

  3. So the liberal election strategy requires that seats in Alberta are sacrificed to achieve ….?
This is proof that Butts is totally in control and is fighting the last Ontario election.
All that matters now to them is to punish any province that isn’t falling in line with his communist agenda (exception Quebec).
Alberta – they rejected his father, and the carbon tax.
Saskatchewan- they where the first ones to reject Butts carbon tax
Ontario- they rejected Wynne and the carbon tax
NB- elected a PC government and reject the carbon tax

The liberals are obviously convinced that the fallout from this continual virtue signaling is just the natterings of an insignificant bunch of deplorables.
He should read up on recent events.

  4. The entire country is losing without the energy east pipeline. Too bad we have juveniles running the country who can’t get past playing political games to appease Quebec and the the inane environmentalists with policies which are beyond reason.
We can sit and take it or start to take action, demand it be done or else. We elect governments for all the people not for special interest groups who make all the noise and spread fear with lies. I’m sick of pandering prigs like Trudeau and Cabal, they need to be sent packing.

  5. Not one comment on CBC or CTV about the disaster happening in Western Canada this morning!!! Their silence speaks volumes!!! CANADA IS BADLY BROKEN!

  6. Don’t forget that whatever misfortune that happens to Alberta, it’s because Albertans made “bad choices”. Bad choices…. such as not going whole hog Liberal and buying all of that party’s malarkey.

  7. FREE SASKABERTA!!!!
It’s nice how the Liberals come out to Edmonton, and offer to loan your own money back to you. Of course, these are all interest-free loans, right? Ottawa needs an ENEMA!!!!

  8. Bottom line is that Alberta and the rest of the West is exactly what eastern Canada and the Liebels think it is. Yes, lots of whining and sniveling but at the end of the day the money will continue to flow east.

Supposedly the bastion of free enterprise, Notley and her crew and the Liebels are steadily increasing their ownership of the economy with hardly a peep. If Notley was serious Alberta would have selectively shut the border to BC and boycotted the further flow of money to the east. Quebec doesn’t allow Ottawa to collect taxes in that province. They collect the money and remit to Ottawa. A very powerful lever.

Until I see a serious move out of Alberta about setting their own destiny I will not get excited about real change. What we are seeing today is mere fluff with a angry tone.

    1. Actually, I rather think some taxes are remitted directly to Ottawa from Quebec employers. I’m thinking federal income tax and EI (at a reduced rate from the rest of Canada). QPP and QPIP (Quebec parental insurance plan) as well as Quebec income tax are remitted to Revenu Quebec. I do know that Quebec residents get both a T4 and a Releve 1 with respect to employment income, and they are required to file two tax returns – the normal T1 and Quebec’s TP-1-V.

  9. I have read editorial comment that basically posits that Trudeau et al “simply don’t get it”. I would disagree. Butts and his personal excrement, Turdeau, know EXACTLY what they’re doing. The latest insult, offering $1.6 billion in loans ‘to help us out’ is another insult wrapped in bribery. The only thing they don’t understand is how anyone can ignore their quality leadership. Get the hell out of our way or we may get out of yours.

    1. The Trudeau – Butts Agenda-Manifesto is very simple.

DESTROY Canada’s Industrial BASE – Onerous Business Regulations – Increase TAXATION across the board – National Carbon Tax
      DESTROY Foreign Investment
Shut Down the Fossil Fuel inudstry – CREATE ENERGY POVERTY
Replace Euro Centric Population with Somali-Nigerian-Middle Eastern Islamic Filth.
Open Borders + M-103 soon to be C-103 (BET on it..)
And “GREEN the Country” as it slides into total Chaos and Federal FASCISM
Only then will they realize their dream of a Post National State….of abjet misery

Goddamned straight they know what they are doing….Their actions over the past 4 years PROVE IT. Folks need to see this for what it is – A FULL on ATTACK against the CItizens of CANADA from Within….TREASON of the highest order.

      Oh and theres this:

  10. Regarding the opening statement
Justine and the Lieberals are convinced that Albertans are stupid. They’ve convinced themselves that Alberta can forever be treated as a welfare province, dependent on Daddy Ottawa-bucks to keep them afloat:

I have to agree with that. I’ve yet to meet anyone under 70 in Alberta who would consider (let alone be for) separation.

The province will always be treated like that.

    1. I’ve yet to meet anyone under 70 in Alberta who would consider (let alone be for) separation.

I’m in my 60s and I can’t wait to fly my Rupert’s Land flag over a free and independent Alberta.

    2. ..I have to agree with that. I’ve yet to meet anyone under 70 in Alberta who would consider (let alone be for) separation…

Then its obvious you dont get out much if at all.
The Anger is palatable.. And its not soley coming from those such as myself that have lost jobs in the Industry….Not at all.

I’m in 100% along with pretty much ALL my friends and they range in ages of 28-65..

      1. It is true I don’t get to Alberta often.
        Maybe 4 – 5 times a year.
And typically most of my interaction is with the same people I already know.
Mid 40’s. But none of them consider separation a realistic option.
The few new people I meet where this topic does come up is always the same kind of response.
And a lot of these people are in the oil patch.
        I don’t get it.
I hope they are the minority or they just don’t want to tell a relative stranger.

  11. Ken, when there is a slush fund handed out by governments to urnalists, they will dance to whatever tune and beat the 4 ams order them to dance to. Urnalism is all theater anymore.

  12. First step – Albertans must demand a referendum on equalization. It provides a negotiating position for the Alberta government.

Second step – vote out NDP.

Third step – negotiate a new equalization deal. Options include keeping equalization in return for Energy East pipeline.

Fourth step – if step three is unsuccessful, because feds or Quebec won’t agree, separate.

Step 3b – build new coal fired electric plant(s). Use the waste heat for green houses.

Step 3c – opt out of supply management for dairy and poultry. This to allow imports of US dairy and will allow Alberta to develop more dairy.

    1. I would add that Alberta should also put into motion

The removal of the RCMP and setting up of a provincial or even a “prairie” police force which would report not to some bureaucratic gun-grabbing bureaucrats from Ottawa, but to the province itself.

The preparation of its own pension system much like what Quebec has done

The preparation of its own tax collection system including GST and federal taxes which will then (maybe) be sent to the feds

The preparation of transport truck inspection systems at the BC/Alberta border to stop trucks to look for ANY sort of product that might be “dangerous” to transport across Alberta.

In other words, lay the ground work to really put the boots to the concept of confederation.

The game is over. Alberta will not allow itself to become “Atlantic Canada West”. This time it’s different.

      1. But Notley is incapable of any of this. It will fall to Kenney when he takes power; he MUST begin to make these moves to demonstrate that Alberta is serious. Without it, it’s all huff & puff & sound & fury, signifying nothing. Alberta will continue to get bent over by the feds, and they’ll continue to whine & moan, but until they DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT…

IT WILL NEVER CHANGE. The governing structure of Canada ensures it.

Preston Manning and Stephen Harper wasted nearly 30 years of their lives with Reform, CA, and then CPC. It didn’t fix anything because Canada as it exists today is unfixable. So the choice for Alberta is stark and unavoidable: stay, KNOWING you will get bent over for as long as you do so, or LEAVE. There is no third option.

      2. Joey, great comments.

We might have inspect the pipelines from BC to the Alberta pipeline network. We might also have to inspect the existing TM oil pipeline more often. Safety concerns.

Same for dairy products from Quebec. We must ensure all Quebec products are safe. I mean just look at defect ridden Bombardier railcars.

  13. Da lying corrupt Liberals want us all fighting with each other province against province peoples against peoples federalist against separatist for that is the only way they can possibly win the next election.

  14. Martin Armstrong says that ALBERTA SHOULD SEPARATE. We only have one Central Bank , so his analogy using different branches of the Federal Reserve does not hold. However the underlying reason is the same. One size fits all Marxism is a lousy idea for individual Provinces and States.

    https://www.armstrongeconomics.com/international-news/canada/why-will-alberta-move-to-separate-from-canada/

Quebec is a giant sucking parasite for the ROC, but I would miss Alberta.

  15. My advice to Alberta, is do not take Saskatchewan with you when you separate. The reasons? Tommy Douglas. We keep electing Ralph. The most crowns. Saskatchewan is deeply socialist, and like Redmonton, will always and inevitably, eventually, vote socialist again. No matter how epic the failures of socialism are worldwide and throughout history. No matter how perfect the record of failure. Eventually, Saskatchewan will utter the rallying cry of failure: “this time is different”.

  16. I keep repeating this, even though it’s not my line:

    Canada is not a country.

It’s more like a mini EU. Time for a Wexit referendum, or something….

  17. Here’s what I said in 2008: “with Obama in the US and the CBC getting extra funding here there is no reason to believe that any of the major pipeline proposals will ever result in a built project. The solution is to build two large scale refineries on the Pembina escarpment right next to the US border – and pipelines to them from oilfields in Alberta and Sask. Today Alberta has the money, in ten years we won’t. Today the approvals needed are easy to get: saying no is electoral suicide in both sask and man..”

  18. This is typical.
The idiot politicians think that loaning money to enterprise that needs to sell their production is going to do anything other than get them into unwanted debt. Of course the idiot politicians have the bright idea that the free enterprise indebted to them will love them.
They have no idea what to do.
Free enterprise needs freedom from the idiots to enterprise to produce stuff to sell the stuff and in the process produce wealth for all those that participate beginning with the cleaning staff.

The idiot in the head office in Ottawa, says that there are no simple solutions to complex problem, he said the exact thing yesterday. Of course he is not responsible whereof something comes out of his mouth, it is the cabal that runs him and his earpiece.

There are simple solutions, just get the hell out of the way.
    What a damn knucklehead.

And now watch out, the idiot said he is going to run sunny campaign again. It may work, there are enough ignorant people around this country that will get sucked in.

Never agreed with the Liberal mayor of Calgary, though I will have to reluctantly agree with him on this point, change one mind at a time.
As impossible as it may sound.
    Just do it.

  19. Let’s check the score:
Trudeau Sr == NEP (National Energy Policy) – aka R@pe Alberta
Trudeau Jr == NEP (No EF’ing Pipelines) – aka R@pe Alberta again

    Team Trudeau 2 / Team Alberta 0
Now I’m convinced too, Albertans really are that stupid. Just lie back and think of . . . Banff ?

  20. In addition, I asked the magic eightball if Trudope would lose the 2019 election. It said “hell yes”. It won’t likely be a single issue that causes the loss although I expect a decline in the Economy. Ontario got rid of our corrupt Marxist gay dictatorship. It was the serial inept and vengeful policies that knocked the Liberals out of Official Party status. The peasants were revolted by a decadent incompetent machine that wallowed in its perceived superior status while insulting the taxpayers. When Caesar placed the crown on his own head it did not end well.

    1. We will see, Hope the MAGIC 8ball has its mojo going.

We have the lapdog media to fight against, as they will be projecting Juth-tin as a PGA qualified golfer, a quantum physicist, a worldly leader who stood up to DRUMPF,!!!!, a partying beer drinker, who also freed Canadians from Harperian pot penalties, etc, etc. Expect the propaganda storm to be endless, between always smiling Justy, vs the endless haranguing and negativity about Scheer, trying to equivocate him to HARRRRRRRRPERRRRRRRRRR.

During the G20 photo op, did you catch Truderp waiting for the photo? There he stood, with his stunned stupid smile straight at the camera, while all the other leaders were not on the podium, each talking to each other, socializing.
Not ONE leader engaged Truderp, at all. Not one. Spoke volumes.

  21. This is MY Take:

An Albertan since leaving Lotusland (Left Coast), in ’76. J’man Welder – Level II Inspector, SAIT Grad. I survived the 80’s w/21% interest rates and the NEP – Trudeau V 1.0. I Spent 5 yrs (1981-1986), in the wilderness so to speak driving a cab as one could not BUY A job. Now along with ALL of us we are being absolutely slammed by Ver 2.0.

Angry…? Believe it as Many of you (Albertans), can relate I’m sure.

ALBERTA MUST Separate: Our Time as the VASSAL State of bowing to Laurentien ELITES, Quebec and Eastern Canada is OVER. As such, I truly believe it is time to leave this so called Federation and strike out on our own. Lots of Folks have said, well that wont work for ANY number of reasons especially & including that “you wont have tidewater access”

    As such:
Here is my Vision for our Industry’s Survival and subsequent REVIVAL. We must ask the YUKON to JOIN us in our newly minted Sovereign Country (And Possibly Saskatchewan – NWT as well).

Once confirmed, I believe that together we should embark on a Nation Building Exercise: The building…of 3 or more 42″ or larger Pipelines DIRECTLY To VALDEZ Alaska from Northern Alberta. The Ramifications would be instant. Full Access to ASIAN markets and elsewhere without the requirement to sepnd umteen Billions on a Mb. based Salt Water Port that can handle Super Tankers.

The Alaskan people have previously stated (2014), that they would welcome our product as have their indigenous folks. Doing so would negate any need to cross BC leaving the Lotus landers alone in their Socialist Bliss….a Major WIN WIN in my books.

Currency..? WE are in the digital age no.? How hard can that be.?

Police Force. I’m sure there would be many RCMP folks from Alberta/Sask/Yukon/NWT that are dissatisfied with the Political meddling of the Fed Govt in their affairs and would welcome a chance to be a REAL & Effective National Police Force. Same goes with a CSIS like group.

Military. I can’t see Westerners currently in the Forces deciding to leave their “native” lands so to speak….They will come and I believe that We can easily have & equip our own Forces along with Decent Equipment …. for a Change.

    Remember:

    EI $$ Stay here
    CPP $$ stay here
    Income TAX $$ stay here
No more Federal Fuel Excise tax
    NO CARBON TAX
No more GST if we decide to keep it (would be good to use soley on Alberta’s Debt,) and if so, we keep it here too.!
No more EQUALIZATION sent to the Arrogant ones.
    BORDERS that are ABSOLUTELY controlled.
NO UN membership – Not required – Not needed…(EVER)

All these things wont happen overnight and it will take Hard work and Dedication to the Cause…but the end result will be a NATION we can all be PROUD of and one that will ensure a brght Future for our children….’Cause right now..? said future looks VERY DARK indeed.

  22. The new $10 dollar bill.
Sir John A is no longer on any currency after this change.
Why did Trudeau not change the $5? Because Laurier is on there.
He was the crooked liberal, the one who stopped the formation of the Province of Buffalo.

  23. I found this petition in my inbox this AM..

    https://www.taxpayer.com/resource-centre/petitions/petition?tpContentId=190&utm_source=Action+Updates&utm_campaign=a1fc23ed1f-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_12_18_PetitionEnergyBailout&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_59605796e2-a1fc23ed1f-35064129

    To Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:

Families who make their living in the energy sector are desperate, but they’re desperate to get back to work and earn a living – they don’t want to depend on temporary bailouts from Ottawa. They need the federal government to stop blocking pipelines, stop passing legislation that undermines Canada’s competitiveness and stop the carbon tax.

Instead of offering $1.6 billion in corporate welfare, Canada’s energy sector needs Ottawa to get out of the way so they can get back to work.

We the undersigned call on the federal government to get out of the way and let the Canadian energy sector get to work.

  24. CO: And all of that will fall 100% on Purpose: DEAF EARS

THEY dont give a Flying Fk about Alberta, our oil inudstry our people or the ROC for that matter…exception being QUEBEC.

The IDEOLOGY of Trudeau and Butts was decades in the making – now Buttressed by George Soros….? They will absolutely continue in their Destructive policies until either Deposed or SHOT & Killed. (My preference).

WE are dealing with TRAITORS here…bound and detrmined to literally destroy the Fabric of our Country in order to pursue their marxist-globalist dreams…Just look at their actions of the past 4 years…?? it AUGHT to be PLAIN for all to see & understand.

    1. Steakman and Jamie,
In fighting an enemy use all techniques at your disposal.

Once a person signs a petition they are more likely, not less likely, to take additional steps, especially if that petition is ignored. For example, a next step might be supporting a boycott.

      1. “….Once a person signs a petition they are more likely, not less likely, to take additional steps,…”

        Hasn’t been my experience, joe.

When we were setting up highway blockades and barricading government offices 10-15 years ago with the Landowners, there were the “doers”, and then there were the petition signers.

More often than not the petition signers fell into the ” I agree with what your message, but not the way you’re delivering it” category.

Far as I’m concerned, other than providing a feel-good outlet, petitions have very limited value….especially when you consider the late stage that the problems which confront us now are at.

        1. Jamie, you might be right.

I have seen politicians respond to some petitions and ignore others. I have seen companies respond to petitions and ignore others. Petitions are just one of many items in the tool box.

When I was working in the energy industry I went to many townhalls and had lots of meetings with landowners, stake holders, community groups, first nations, and politicians. At one town hall I learned a valuable lesson. Our project had a lot of local support but there was one group opposed. The lawyer presenting the opposing view of the project made 14 arguments why the community should not allow the project. But I noticed that some of the lawyers arguments were mutually exclusive. Some arguments were not even relevant to our project.

My company colleague, who had once worked with this lawyer told me the lawyer’s strategy: his arguments did not have to make sense. Persons A,B, and C did not care a damn about reasons 1 to 13, they only cared about 14. Persons D and E only cared about reason 5, and so on. If he could find a reason for someone to oppose our project, he brought it up even if 95% of the community thought that reason was pure hogwash, he was after the 1 or 2% that could be persuaded to oppose the project on just that narrow reason.

Another lesson I learned. If you want a decision maker, or a group of people to support your recommendation, proposal or whatever, you have to do two things:
          2) you should have a sound technical, economic or other logical argument for them to support. But this is NOT sufficient. If this is all you have, you may very well fail.
          1) most important. You must address the “feel good factor” of the decision maker or the group. They need to feel good about making or supporting the decision you are proposing.

Most Albertans that I know are proud Canadians. They do not want to separate. They don’t want to protest, they just want to work. That is what is great about Alberta.

The truck convoys in Nisku and Grand Prairie won’t make a damn to Justin Turdeau. Gerry Butts is already whispering in Justin’s ear “Let them play with their Tonka Trucks. By February it will be over”. Gerry is playing point 2 above to Justin so Justin feels good about doing nothing.

Like a petition, the truck convoys are useless by themselves, but they are another tool in the tool box.

You mentioned highway blockades and barricading offices. I have seen them both work and fail. I have seen them alienate a lot of supporters. But again they are tools in the tool box.

Like the lawyer I ran across at the townhall, use everything in the tool box. And no he did not win. But we learned from him. We were able to expand our tool box and and developed even more allies within the community and our project went ahead.

In my opinion all these tools start positioning Alberta for a referendum on equalization, and separation if we cannot cut a better deal with the feds. Maybe I am wrong, but I am open to other ideas, except for BOHICA.

  25. Here in AB we have had the riot act read to us a couple of unreported times.

The AB Heritage Savings and Trust Fund. Back when Lougheed established the fund it grew rapidly. The feds were alarmed by the size it was becoming. I’m not sure how this played out but I suspect that Lougheed was summoned to ottawa where they explained to him the folly (uncanadian) of Alberta having a large pool of money and TROC having no access to it.

The fund got changed seripticiously. It ceased to grow. Money was ‘loaned’ to provinces. I think Lougheed panicked and thought he might no be seen as a builder of Canada. His legacy would be sullied. The fund almost screeched to a halt. I realize the economy changed but the fund changed radically. The PC’s ramped up spending exponentially.

The other issue is the rcmp. A decade ago AB was about to construct a state-of-the -art police college. The land had been secured and some initial dirt work commenced.

Suddenly without warning the project was canceled. A few lame excuses were uttered by Redfraud (?) contract penalties paid and that was it. There was talk of a provincial police force circulating but no real movement.

It’s my contention that the feds stepped in and took AB out to the woodshed. The rcmp as a federal police force cease to be viable without Alberta. We immediately signed on for another 20 years.

  26. Oh Nooooo! The National Post website reports that a young woman on Groper’s youth council, has resigned because of his comments about male construction workers. I bet you won’t see that story on the CBC.

  27. “Alberta can forever be treated as a welfare province, dependent on Daddy Ottawa-bucks to keep them afloat”

Ha Ha Ha. The money flows only one way and it AIN’T toward Alberta. Welfare? FU Easterners.
    Ottawankers…
