October 13, 2018: Reader Tips

(Originally published yesterday, but as there was already a RT thread up, I’ve moved it forward to today. These things sometimes happen with scheduled posts!)

From a very different time comes this video of Ann-Margret in a screen test.

Your hip, and not so hip, tips are much appreciated!

  1. On October 12th, according to Oil Price dot com, the discount was more than $50 a barrel.
The price of West Texas Intermediate is $71.39
The price of Western Canadian Select is $15.97

    https://www.spencerfernando.com/2018/10/12/discounting-our-future-trudeau-notleys-pipeline-failures-take-devastating-toll-on-canadian-oil/

Trudeau and Notley are being remarkably successful in destroying the western Canadian resource economy, and if this falls so will the rest of economic engines.

  2. The other day Nancy Ross linked the Joni Mitchell song Woodstock that first appeared on Mitchell’s 1970 album Ladies of the Canyon. CS & N had a hit with that song and with this song; Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. For commies these guys made some good harmony together; the song even has a verse that pays homage to Cuba, every lefty’s favorite island prison.

    1. Nold: @ 12:43. Now this:
      https://youtu.be/TRE9vMBBe10

This song has a memorable beat. It commemorates May 4/70 when 4 Kent State University students were shot to death by the Ohio State National Guard. There were many injured in this protest against the bombing of Cambodia. The murders galvanised anti-war sentiment.

      CS&N are the best!
I remembered Joni Mitchell’s song about “Stardust” and thought her song by CS&N better than another one entitled “Dust in the Wind!”

Nevertheless, all in the name of Science and Climate, we are all just CARBON! Like Kenji said, who knew Joni was so scientifically minded.

      1. Nancy, I was a radical, liberal left hippie living in Pittsburgh at the time of the Kent State shootings. Two weeks after that event, my girl friend and I hitchiked to Indianapolis for a rock concert. One ride let us off outside of Kent, Ohio — as it must have been six hours before anyone would pick us up. That’s how upset peple were. And my girl friend at the time was good looking.

      2. The Guardsmen at Kent State shot back after being fired on by communist revolutionaries. We need more of that or we will end up like Cambodia.

      3. For future reference – don’t scare the crap out of a bunch of 18 year old civilians wearing uniforms and carrying guns. The National Guard aren’t social workers. When shit like that happens, be somewhere else.

    1. I am not sure why Suncor doesn’t buy up refining capacity and retail chains in the Gulf Coast vicinity so they consume 100% of their production. Petro America? Buy Trans Canada Pipelines too, if necessary.

    1. Maybe that explains why a certain politician is so keen on participating in a particular type of parade and why he’s a national expert on quantum computing.

      1. Intriguing theory indeed. Perhaps in one parallel universe said politician would be considered male and in another universe he would be considered high IQ?

        1. That might happen because of all that entropy he was talking about a few weeks ago.

          1. Of course you realize that you and I have potentially committed a hate crime by referring to said politician as “he” without verifying its preferred pronouns today. Such are the ways of peoplekind.

    We must all “Carry On”….
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes defines the era of the ’70s, you could almost pinpoint what was going on in your life and what was going on politically. CS& N put out some great stuff.

    1. “CS& N put out some great stuff”
No question but the politics were often over the top. Suite: Judy Blue Eyes-wonderful stuff but what is that verse about Cuba doing in there?
Definition of agitprop. : propaganda especially : political propaganda promulgated chiefly in literature, drama, music, or art.

      1. Nold, you say:
“What is that bit about Cuba, doing there?”

In the era of ’65 to ’74, they got more p’d off in their songs. Remember after the Bay of Pigs and the assassination of JFK, Americans were forbidden to travel to Cuba. Also, in this era, many Americans fled the Draft, a lot came to Canada, were welcomed here, and many are still here.

BTW The Judy in “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” is about Judy Collins.
Check out the following. There’s a great photo of Judy & Stephen.

      1. I read that “Southern Cross” is the Sailor’s song….
” I have my ship and all her flags a flyn’- she is all that I have left and Music is her name.”

“Spirits are using me, larger voices callin’……….”

        1. It’s a song of love, stubbornness, and regret. Great lyrics about the war between the men and the women.

“We never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do.”

“When you see the Southern Cross for the first time….”

          The last line:
“Somebody fine will come along and make me forget about loving you / And the Southern Cross.”

(He’s not going to forget ….. the Southern Cross and….)
Yeah, I’m just an old romantic.

  4. The liberal left is absolutely ridiculing Kanye West’s speech at Donald Trump’s office. CTV News’s Joy Malbon –arguably the most biased and corrupt national reporter Canada has — did an astonishingly brutal hit piece on West. Malbon’s attack piece had to be seen to be believed.

    1. Notice that CNN did a slick edit on Kanye’s rant making it sound disjointed and insane. If you listen to the unedited version, he actually was somewhat coherent. An example of fake news.

  5. From yesterday’s John Oakley Show. From about 8:20 onwards, John Oakley and Conrad Black discuss the media blackout about Faith Goldy and her exclusion from the Toronto municipal election. At the end of the interview, John Oakley mentions that Conrad Black has written on this topic in his weekly National Post column for publication today. I opened up today’s National Post only to find, “Conrad Black will return next week.”

    https://omny.fm/shows/the-john-oakley-show/conrad-black-talks-about-free-speech-paris-climate

    1. I suspect that the NP has joined the cabal to silence Faith Goldy in every way, even to any favourable views of her.

  6. We all know the virginality and honest-to-the-bone reputation of climate scientists. That is why I am a true believer (1984-style). Here we have something totally unexpected – scientists (in the medical field) trying to get the statistics changed on their research (say it isn’t so UnMe). Why would they do that? Up to 50% rate of “fudging” which we all know means to make the chocolate taste better. If scientists in the medical field are trying to “enhance” their research, why wouldn’t climate scientists be doing the same thing? Because they hold themselves to a higher standard. They are not merely saving people’s lives, they are saving the planet.

p.s. CBC sucks but Kelly Crowe does do some good journalism.

    1. A horrible news, the waiting times need to be extended to discourage turd worlders from polluting the country.

        1. “snowflakes” you’re seeing double?

Nope, just someone who does not like civilized world turned into a turd world shithole. You’d understand that if you hadn’t been a turd worlder yourself. But since you are, the point is beyond you. It is like explaining sex to a eunuch (or to you for that matter).

    2. Well, they had to do something about the fact that every actual Canadian the Liberals needed to maintain the pretense that Canada was competitive in high-tech was leaving for the States, where he could enjoy warmer weather, higher wages, much lower taxes and opportunities for advancement that didn’t require learning Mandarin.

After the war the British had to import Indian and Pakistani hacks to replace the British doctors who kept leaving for Australia, South Africa and Rhodesia, where the Labour Party wouldn’t make them pay Swedish marginal tax rates on East German wages.

      1. Are they actually leaving for the states? I am skeptical that you have the data to back this claim up. It does not jibe with many hi tech investments Canada has been receiving recently.

    1. Ugh this article has been written a million times before. Of course there’s the broadside against letting in foreigners. Can’t go 30 seconds without that.
