Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Trump The Establishment
Let them secede:

They’ll be just as poor, but, hey, they won’t have Trump as head of state, will they?
I suspect most Canadians are no different. Wait until we have another uptick in interest rates and the recent 50 percent increase in the bank overnight rate kicks in.
I suspect most Canadians are no different.
Indeed. Both California and Canada have space cadets as leaders. Gov. Moonbeam and wee Juthtin have a lot in common.
The Civil War essentially wrote indivisibility into the Constitution. I suspect anyone who goes beyond the talking stage and acts on secession might be executed for treason.
Just another article from the liberal press.
Allow me to point out several glaring errors from the California newspaper article linked:
1. Until one instance at the very end, there was not a mention of “Asians”. California is one-ninth Asian, that is almost twice as many as blacks. The article specifically excluded Asians from all the “people of color” stats cited, because the Asian statistics would completely contradict the “White v. Color” meme in areas like savings and home ownership.
2. Even in that one instance, the stats are flawed. It said 41% of the workers without access to an employer-sponsored retirement plan are Latino, black, or Asian. Interestingly, that means nearly 60% of those workers are white, whereas whites only constitute 46.6% of the population. Ergo, in this case, the “people of color” come off better than whites.
3. Look at the “solutions” offered. First bullet says give them more money. Second bullet says more public money should be spent to make them save. Third bullet is a completely discredited “solution” as already shown in cities like Seattle. The fourth bullet is also a disastrously failed policy, when subprime lending led to the crash of the housing marker. (Maybe that was the idea, eviscerate the assets of home owners so these people can easier buy houses.) On the fifth bullet, individual IRA accounts are already available, but I guess the nanny state must step in to make it automatic. I wonder how much of the cut would the nanny state take.
what do they need savings for?
They have a credit card.
They didn’t even charge Jefferson Davis. Salmon P Chase, then Chief Justice SCOTUS said that he didn’t do anything wrong.
I don’t think Canada is in much better shape. My firm does a survey of Canadian’s attitudes to debt every few months. You will see in the most recent one (url below) that 40% of Canadians are $200 a month from not being able to pay their bills.

That is very good sleuthing, but regarding (2) how about this?
“41% of the workers without access to an employer-sponsored retirement plan are Latino, black, or Asian. Interestingly, that means nearly 60% of those workers are white, whereas whites only constitute 46.6% of the population”.
While whites constitute only 46.6% of the population they likely constitute a much higher percentage of “workers” which is a sub-set of the population.
But your (1) point was an excellent example.
as far as Im concerned this is merely more evidence we are headed for a new era of serfdom and sharecropping.
a miniscule portion of the population will own >98% of all assets and resources under, on and above the earth including outer space for good measure.
everyone else will rent their accomodations, transportation, appliances, furniture, hospital bed, land, et friggin cetera.
Liberals and socialists WILL succeed in rendering the middle class extinct. a brand new middle ages where la crème de la crème de la crème bask in unimaginable luxury and the rest live day-to-day, nay on an HOURLY basis in many places.
sign of the times.
Want to know why HRC won CA by such a wide margin? This headline says it all: “More than a third of California households have virtually no savings, are at risk of financial ruin, report says”
They’ve got nothing to tax so why not hold out a hand to the politicians offering the most. And having no hope of having much of anything in the future either. It’s the death of the American Dream.
Excellent analysis. And I am growing very frustrated reading all the stories about the HIGH cost of housing in the state without even a passing mention of the massive government-imposed taxes, fees, regulations, and approval difficulties. Each and every housing unit has its cost run up by;
Zoning and Planning fees and approvals cost an average $10-20k in direct costs
Huge Permit fees averaging $ 10k for the average single family home
+ School “Developer Fees” of $ 4.00/sq.ft. (My local SD) much higher in rural districts.
+ Park Dedication Fees of $ 2.50/sq.ft. (My local burg.)
New water connection fee of $ 50k and UP (in EBMUD)
New sewer connection fee of $ 25k and up (CCCo San. dist.) no septic systems allowed.
Mandated underground elec. service + $ 10-25k per unit.
Title-24 Energy regulations adding at least $ 25k per unit
Most cities in SF Bay Area have “green” building ord’s that increase Title-24 compliance by 25% +/-
Mandatory statewide fire sprinklers for detached single family homes = $ 5.00/sq.ft.
Property Taxes through the roof … 1% of assessed value (average new home $ 1.5mil here in Bay Area).
Other misc. costs, codes (encroachment permits, recycling bonds … you’d be shocked) adding another $ 5-10k to each home.
Instead, every article cites ONLY the GREED of home developers, and “exclusionary policies” of Suburban NIMBYs. Note to all you leftist “journalists” … it’s the GOVERNMENT, stupid !!! YOU have been pricing YOURSELF out of the State … while simultaneously providing political and economic “sanctuary” for 10 million ILLEGALS. And yes … a substantial number of CA illegals are FOB the Orient.
If they’re not respecting the parts of the Bill of Rights that they find inconvenient or offensive, why should they respect “indivisible?” That part no longer has the force and currency that it once possessed.
Like most reports in the media, I’d be cautious about many of its scary conclusions. See M. Crichton’s Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect. I’d say this article is only partially true. Low income and modest income household in high cost cities have genuine cash flow problems. The policies listed as solutions are the same old ideas that have been at best marginally effective and arguably counter-effective when it comes to minimum wage hikes. Streamlining building permits, less occupational licensing and fewer regulatory hoops for running a business would probably be more effective.
The dynamic for middle and higher income families is a bit different, I suspect. These families probably do not keep large amounts of liquid assess and cash on hand because it makes more sense to invest in pension plans, TFSAs and RESPs or to pay down loans/mortgage. For instance if you currently invest in an resp you get an 30% return from the government (20% fed, 10% prov) which is much better than the basically 0% interest in savings. All registered investment products can be accessed but generally they are not quickly liquidated. Same with other assets. In a temporary pinch most of these families can access low interest lines of credit which makes more sense than putting away 3 months worth of income in a savings account. If your net income is $80,000 that would be $20,000.
From my reading the journalists scary numbers may not be quite as dire as they first appeared. A fairly typical format: big scary numbers, no detailed analysis, calls for more progressive policies. It’s exaggerated to push through more government-heavy programs and interventions.
More than a third of Californians don’t speak English. If you want to play statistical roulette.
Still Kenji…if you have something to lose to the taxman or think you will in the future you’re not voting Dem. Whether you’re good at sprechen das Englisch or better at having another enchilada. Only roulette I see going on in CA is the Russian kind…with 7 bullets and 6 chambers.
I predict that within 25 years Spanish will be an official language in the USA. Migration of Latin Americans will do more to change the fabric of America than Muslim immigration.
Look, a $15 per hour minimum wage is simply not going to work. Everyone with half a brain knows that. It’s already been proven in Seattle.
What CA needs is a $75 an hour minimum wage to assist with all the high fees and taxation. How the hell can anyone save anything without at least that?
Yes, that was sarcasm but you know that some group will argue that I am correct…
Tacos for breakfast, tacos for lunch, tacos for supper.
I am so damned sick of tacos! I blame Donald Trump!!
Tomorrow, I’ll go out and get a job. Then, I can can buy a real hamburger! I can live in a safe neighborhood, in a three bedroom bungalow. I’ll have a wife named Mom, a boy named Dick and girl named Jane. I’ll have car, a boat, a cat named puff and a dog named spot.
Enough of this damned freeloading!

The freeloading in California by Illegal Aliens & Others provides ~ 80K tax free… The Federal Unemployment & SS Disability fund is used by the State Government to pay everything.. It is the American Dream of enabling fraud built on gangster Govn’t Fraud.. Drugs & cheep labor
Kenji…Why should freeloaders care about Fees & taxes… They don’t pay
for housing or education taxes.. They scam the system & they Vote illegally so the Democrats WIN….It’s a circle of greed that feeds it’s self.. ONE Missed Monthly check and it’s game over…Once Trump finds all the Money streams and cuts them.. Bye Bye
Income inequality is greater in Cal., Ore., and Wash. (all Democrat controlled) than in Idaho (Republican controlled. http://claytonecramer.blogspot.com/2015/10/and-i-thought-i-would-have-to-calculate.html
Fortunately, California is not America. Here in Idaho, things are much better. I know people who own their homes without a mortgage, and many who could off the mortgage without a struggle,
Congrats on the pithy saying. It speaks volumes!
The answer to CA’s problems is to defund Prog (1984) Ed in K-12, university and grad schools; replacing the anti-brain and anti-republic pedagogy with Western (1776) Enlightenment and its love of Natural Law, Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. (i.e. earlier CA, earlier USA before Progtards.)
Whereas the bible admonishes us to not wish will on our enemies, as the evil of the day is sufficient thereof…the sentiment is understandable.
CA Progs have embraced three things making only Divine retribution or an age of anguish able to correct the plan they embrace, which they believe to be uncorrectable by its design. This design of uncorrectability has three parts: A) “Morals are Relative” is taught in order that tyrants can smash citizen faces with boots and the citizens are at best able to vote up five stars on the effectuality of the boots’ designs. B) Hegel’s absurd-on-the-face-of-it claim that “No proposition can be proved true” is taught in order that tyrants can smash citizen faces with boots and the citizens are at best able to vote up five stars on the effectuality of the boots’ designs. C) Progs teach Progs that the above two statements are “received wisdom” and above argument, above reproach and eternally above correction… in order that tyrants can smash citizen faces with boots and the citizens are at best able to vote up five stars on the effectuality of the boots’ designs. C) Progs teach Progs that the above two statements are “received wisdom” and above argument, above reproach and eternally above correction…
Facing this kind of purposed entrenchment against 1776 amelioration, indeed, one can light-heartedly mock the stupid bunch and say, “Sweet Saint of San Andreas, hear my prayers!” In reality… false reality distortions are so expensive to maintain… they cannot be maintained forever. For California idiots… that is a long time.
At the end of the Avengers movie: The Other: “Humans… They are not the cowering wretches we were promised. They stand. They are unruly, and therefore cannot be ruled. To challenge them is to court death.”
Thanos rises and smiles: “Yes, but… CALIFORNIA and CALIFORNIANS!” [Deleted scene.]
