  3. The only reason that there is a media black out on this is the core cause of the problem itself: It was created by Socialism, Hugo Chavez was coached by Castro to decree prices on food items…Food businesses scrammed out of there.
    I saw a CTV report on it a few weeks ago and it was hilarious and sad at the same time that they were spinning in circles trying to avoid explaining the politics behind it.

    Your bang on! Where is socialism? Only Venezuela? It is actively at work in Canada and yet many Canadians scoff at Venezuela in some twisted logic of self congratulation. Canadian ‘governance’ is as susceptible to what seems to occur in South America.
    Canada’s economy is a wreck. The vaunted recovery of a hugely subsidized Ontario manufacturing base is not happening. The commodity based backbone of the country is subject to a weak global GDP which has every sign of collapsing from debt.
    In the home markets provincial debt escalates particularly in Ontario and Quebec. These two provinces alone now approach the total Federal debt total of $650 billion. Factor in crown corporation debt and consumer debt and the country teeters on collapse. Any increase in interest rates could/will cause a collapse in real estate prices.
    In this twisted world over 1/3 of central bank debt is now at negative rates. Although this was caused by QE conducted by these entities the new twist is to increase interest rates in some claim towards normality. Admission that central bank balance sheets are so out of wh.k that the demand for bonds has cratered will not happen. The new solution now seems to be fiscal stimulus. Surprise more debt!
    So people who scoff at Venezula had better think the situation through a little more closely. What is happening there is highly likely to be repeated here. No, the USA is not Canada. It has a far stronger economy and a presidential candidate in Trump who will hold other countries responsible for their debts and obligations. Tough time ahead.

  11. I would suggest that the Eco-leftists of the world actually LOVE this way of life. They HATE the “excess wealth”, the “excess consumption” of Capitalist nations. They think everyone is too FAT … and Maduro is the Socialist version Weight Watchers spokesmodel Oprah. They would also like to cut the worlds population … and what’s better than good old fashioned STARVATION to accomplish that goal.
    They also HATE oil. And so the irony of low oil consumption, and low oil prices which have helped create this crisis is absolutely delicious (no pun intended … which would be cruel schadenfruede under the circumstances). So … in Venezuela … we see the disastrous outcome of the Eco-leftist template for governance … and Western societies are putting these people in power. Get ready … keep voting that way … and you too will be standing in line for bread at midnight.

  12. Exactly! How many households in Ontario are behind in their Hydro bill and how many manufacturing jobs have been lost in the last few years? Four thousand businesses closed their doors in Calgary (Calgary Herald the other day) in 2016. All of this collapse is exactly what the eco-socialists in these two provinces and now in Ottawa want. The carbon emissions are definitely being reduced on the backs of the people and reduced standard of living. Just as Mo Strong wanted.

  15. I do not have the appropriate links at hand, but in the late 1940s he was already talking the need for the west to be de-industrialized. I hope one of the other commenters has the information at hand to back up my comment.
